Winter Update completed! (new campaign, items and more)



Since we suspect you finished three-starring all available maps, here is the concluding part of the Winter update to help you get through the tactical drought:

Features:
- New campaign (longest one yet!).
- New scenario type: Robbery in Progress.
- 9 new weapons.
- 1 new enemy type.
- Added 3 new editor brushes (erase background / white / shadow).
- Added 16 new Steam Achievements (entry-level ones).

Fixes:
- Replays sometimes getting desynchronized (bug introduced in 1.0.3).
- Saved plan sometimes being deleted.
- Campaign Won screen showing when losing all troopers.
- Troopers sometimes going through doors without triggering any action.
- Crash related to some mods.
- Improvements/tweaking to existing equipment.
- Crash when resizing map to a certain size in editor.

Here's to 2015! What's next and retrospective...



Hello, friends!

When this year started, we found ourselves on PC Gamer’s list as “one of the best/most promising strategy games of 2014”. As it ends, we’re Rock Paper Shotgun’s “best tactics game of the year”.

What’s most important, we’ve delivered to you and got the game out, and we are currently enjoying a steam user rating of Overwhelmingly Positive. It’s not uncommon to see happy users with 50+ or even 100+ hours of gaming time, and all this confirms we must be doing something right :)

The workshop and modding scene are very active, and the release of the improved mission editor makes creating maps from scratch completely possible.

What’s next for KillHouse Games? We’re obviously not done with Door Kickers and Update 1.06 is almost ready for full release. But even after that, we have new features in mind, new campaigns to write and new threats or tools to throw at you.

Bigger things are also coming. Bringing multiplayer to Door Kickers, porting Door Kickers to other platforms, as you requested, and even moving Door Kickers to other places in the world. Nowhere City is a homely home, but we’re wondering how they call their double taps in, say, Russian? And who knows Mp5s better – the Germans or the Brits?

Those of you that follow our interviews also know we do have some plans for Door Kickers 2, and even another project. Decisions and plans are to me made but you’re probably going to see more than just Door Kickers stuff from KillHouse Games, next year.

So here’s to 2015 and here’s to you – our awesome community. You took us from 3 guys with a fun prototype to a solid team with the best tactical game on the market.

Door Kickers is an innovative realtime strategy game that puts you in charge of a SWAT team and lets you command them during a tactical intervention.

Analyze the situation, plan team routes, choose equipment and breach points and coordinate multiple troopers to reach the hostage room before the bad guys get to press that trigger.

It may sound daunting, and like real world CQB combat, it sure is. But most levels can be completed in minutes and on the fly improvisation works. Achieving the perfect planning, getting the mission done with no false steps, that’s a skill harder to master.

面白いです!
見下ろし型のタクティカルシミュレータです。
プレイヤーは2人から最大十数人のSWAT隊員達を操り、犯人の無力化、人質の救出、証拠の確保など多様なミッションをクリアしていきます。
隊員はポイントマン、アサルター、シールド、ステルス、ブリーチャーの5種類が用意されており、それぞれ個性的なクラスとなっています
基本的に隊員たちの行動を設定してミッションを遂行するのですが、遮蔽物やフレンドリー・ファイアの概念が存在するため、適当に突っ込めば死ぬだけです。
そのため、実際の特殊部隊のようにマズルコンシャスを意識(射線が被っていると発砲できない)しつつ互いの動線をカバーし、クリアリングをしっかりやることが求められます(現実のCQB戦術を取り入れるとうまくいくことも多いです)
ゲームはいつでも一時停止が可能であり、判断スピードはあまり要求されません。
最初に行動予約を全て入れ、後は放置でクリアというのも可能であり、相当面白いです
また、フラッシュバン、スティンガーグレネードの投擲、ブリーチング、ピッキング、スパイカメラを用いたドア越しの偵察、3種類のサインによる同時行動等、取れる戦術行動が結構多いのもGood(やったことはありませんが、Frozen Synapseというゲームほど、多様な行動は取れません)
装備も拳銃、アサルトライフル、ショットガン、防弾ベストがそれぞれ数種類ずつ用意されており、テイザーによる無力化も可能です
そして、何と言っても特徴的なのが無限のリプレイアビリティです
シングルミッションが80種類近く、3種類のキャンペーンとデフォルトでもボリュームたっぷりなのですが、インゲームミッションエディタが付属し、ミッションのランダム生成、自作ミッションの制作、他のユーザによるミッションのダウンロードまでもが可能です。
犯人の配置はプレイごとにランダムに変化し、同じ展開は一度としてありません。
また、MODもかなり充実しており、前述したミッションだけでなく装備、プレイヤー、敵のキャラクタグラフィックの追加、ラジオの変更、マップテクスチャ、過去の名作からインスパイアされたMOD等、拡張性も抜群です。

インディーズゲームにしては$19.99と少々高いですが、タクティカルシュミレータが好きな方、警察系特殊部隊が好きな方、往年の名作SWAT4やレインボーシックスをやりこんだオールドPCゲーマーの方におすすめです

SWAT分隊を自分の思うがままに操作して犯人を制圧せよ!

上から見下ろし型のRTSです。
RTSですがこのゲームでは時間を止めることが出来るため、最初に指示を終わらして制圧していくのを眺めることもできますし、RTS気味に停止を押さず、その場その場の対応でクリアすることも出来ます。しかし、私がプレイした所最高クリアランクを取るには停止を多様するか最初に指示しておかないときついです。
失敗してもRestartがあり、すぐに再び始められることが出来る点もgood。
兵士の種類も
POINTMAN(ピストル)、ASSAULTER(アサルトライフル、カービンライフル)、BREACHER(ショットガン)、STEALTH(ステルス仕様ASSAULTER)、SHIELD(盾持ちピストル)
と、5種類あり様々な戦略が組めます。

ゲームモードは「Single」と「Campaign」があり、シングルではステージが単発で終わりますが、キャンペーンでは1-1,1-2.....みたいな感じで何面か続きます。ここで重要なのがこのゲーム、KIA(Killed in action)と育成要素を実装しているのでキャンペーンで死んでしまうと、キャラのステータスをもう一度上げる羽目になります。なお、シングルでは死んでもクリアランクが下がるだけの模様。
因みに、KIAになってからでもキャンペーンの章括りをクリアするまではシングルで普通に使えます。

SWATの兵士たちが持つ武器はアンロック制です。ステージのクリアランクによって★が貰え(最高3)、その★を対価に武器や装備を買います。★はなかなかたまらないので買う際はご注意を。
自分のオススメはまずArmor、次点でBreaching kit。その後に兵士の武器ですね。

残念な点は現状日本語wikiが無いため(自分の検索不足かも)、システム面やアイテムの効果を理解するのに英語力が皆無な人は少々時間がかかるという点です。
そういう方(操作がわからない人など)はここで日本語解説してくれています。ありがたい

ゲーム内容は、他の方のレビューやGameplay動画に任せるとして、
疑問・不満に思ったことを数点書く。

・KIA(キャラロスト)の意味が無い
隊員が死ぬ(killed in Action)と、次の作戦で使用できず、
次の次で新しい隊員が補充される。
しかし、隊員が死んだミッションで、
"Restart"→"Back"でタイトル画面に戻ると、死んだ隊員が復活する。
この為、KIAによる緊張感は全く無い。

・ステータス上げが面倒
KIAに意味を持たせようと、"Restart"→"Back"を自分で禁止しても、
キャラ一人一人に、RPGのようなステータスがあり、
ある程度使える人材にする為には、
簡単なマップを何度もやりステータス上げをする羽目になる。
SWATと言うプロフェッショナルなのだから、
最初から完璧でいてくれよ……。
別のゲームだが、"SWAT 4"なんかは、
隊員に個別のステータスは無く、
純粋に使用する武器と装備で能力が変化した。
私は、その方がこの手のゲームには合っているように思う。

・ドクトリンがただのスキルアンロックになっている
ドクトリンと言うくらいだから、
基本的な戦術を固定するものかと思ったら、
ただ、使えるスキルのアンロックだった。
しかも、レベルMaxになると全スキルを解除可能。
戦術に個性が全く無くなる。なら初めから使わせてよ……。

・一階と二階でプランニングを引き継げない
ゲームが正式版になり、複数階のマップが可能になったが、
このせいで、プラン変更無しでクリアすることが出来ない。
(追記1・複数階のマップではプラン変更無しの目標が無くなった。)
まだ少しバグもある。
実装されたばかりの機能なので、今後に期待したい。

全体的に、RPG要素(ステータス・スキルツリー)が、
ゲームの邪魔をしているように感じる。
私がRPG嫌いというのもあるかも知れないが、
このゲームに絶対に必要かと言われたら、
多くの方が疑問に思うことだろう。

疑問・不満はこのくらい。
沢山書いたが、それはこのゲームが、
これらの不満点があったとしても、本当に面白いからだ。
つまらないのなら、わざわざレビューなど書かない。


正式版でマップの自動生成に対応した。
また、ワークショップにも対応しているので、
長く遊べるゲームになると思う。

しかし、作者さんには、
まだまだアップデートをしてもらいというのも本音だ。
今後のDoor Kickersの発展が楽しみでならない。


ちょっと補足。
現在のバージョンでは、フラッシュバン・スティンガーを、
コーナーから好きな場所に投げられるようになっている。
身を晒す必要は無い。

Door Kickers is one of those pleasant surprises that comes every now and then.

This is essentially a Top Down SWAT Team Simulator that is extremely Tactical. (And I'm not using the word just because it's cool)

How would I describe Door Kickers ?
This game reminds me of older releases that change the way FPSes are played such as Rainbow Six and SWAT.
This is a slow and methodical game as it'll brutally punish you if a mistake have been made. Thought and precise movements must be taken into account if you wish for all of your troopers to survive that one bloody great gunfight.

How does this game differ itself from the rest ?
First of all, it is innovative. This is done in the style of the briefing phase in Rainbow Six, but it is completely real time with pausing mechanics so you are able to change your plan on the fly other than having to exit to the planning phase and change your movements and start over.

How is this game tactical ?
Well, the RPS 'Best Tactics of 2014' says for itself.
Not enough, aye ?
Fine. Door Kickers is one of those games that shines during situations where you can't just go guns blazing.

For example,
there is a hostage taker standing right behind the hostage facing toward the only entry point of the room.
Now, being the Top Down game that Door Kickers is, there is no third dimension so when your team step into the room, the hostage taker will open fire and hit the hostage before he hits you.
So what do you do ?
1. Bang the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... I meant a flashbang. Blind him so your team has time to move around and neutralise him without harming the hostage
2. If there is a window, you can send a trooper to flank him from a different angle.

Multiple ways to problem solve, is it enough evidence that this game is tactical ?
No ?
Well, the game has different kinds of situations that you have to adapt to, such as
- Eliminate Hostiles : It's basically Terrorist Hunt. Go in, kill all the baddies, win.
- Hostage Rescue : It's just like Terrorist Hunt, but with Hostages in it. Possibility of an Execution though.
- Stop Execution : A baddie in the area is about to blow the brains out of someone and you have to stop them.
- Bomb Defusal : Well, the name says it all.
- Dope Raid : Recover evidence mainly dope, and dope papers.
- Warrant Arrest : Again, name says it all.
- Protect VIP : ... I don't really have to describe this one at all, do I ?
- Robbery in Progress : Somehow, the devs know how lazy I get when I need to describe things.

What ? Still not enough ? Are you kidding me...
Fine.
The game has an arsenal of trooper classes, weapons, and equipment to outfit your team to suit the situation
Classes include (If you haven't seen the video above)
- Pointman : Only armed with a pistol, has the highest mobility and is the fastest during entry, but isn't the best at range
- Assaulter : Guy with the guns. Basically, guy that shoots all the baddies for you.
- Breacher : As the name implies, he breaches door ways, clear rooms, and corridors in hasty manner. I like to call him "Hobo with a Shotgun"
- Shield : The guy that you would want to bring when the baddies bring their big guns.
- Stealth : Shhhh... I'm trying to think of a description for this one... Damn it, keep quiet! I'm trying to think!

Weapons range from simple submachine guns such as the MP5A3 to meaner rifles like the G36C to a punch in the face like the Mossberg 590.
Sidearms ? No problem! Glocks, 1911s, and P226s, anything is in store! Just need to trade in your gold stars!
Oh, we got loads of equipments, Flashbang, Breaching Charges, Tasers, even a little handheld machine that allows you to picklock faster!

So as you can see, this game is completely tacticool...
WHAT? NOT ENOUGH!? Bruh, I'm done. I got nothing else. You can go watch them YouTube videos and find them all out on your own. I ain't gonna tell you everything man.
Oh, but you want the know the truth !? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH.

Anyways, I love this game. One of my favourite games, as you can see, spent over 100 hours on this thing.
If I could rename my girlfriend, I would name her "Window Smashers".

This game is top notch! If you loved the Rainbow Six series and SWAT 4, you'll probably love this even more. Fan of RTS and action games, you must give this one a shot. This is basically one of those games where it gets better and better as you get used to the mechanics and unlock new stuff.

Door Kickers is a tactical RTS game where you take control of a SWAT team and save the day through hostage rescue missions, bomb defusal missions, VIP escorts and everything else a SWAT-based game should have. The game can be played either by planning everything at the start of a level and watch as the team executes your orders (Rainbow Six style) or by taking control of your units in real-time. You can also do both, since the action can be paused at any time (recommended for starters).

PROS
+ Tactical SWAT gameplay at its finest. Assign equipment to each unit, plan and execute any way you want; easy to pick up and play.
+ Many guns to choose from and different classes each with their own advantages and disadvantages.
+ Very high replayability: lots of individual and varied missions, campaigns, map editor, random mission generator and great mod support.
+ Awesome soundtrack and clean graphics that match the atmosphere of the game.
+ Still gets updated with additional free content and bug fixes.

CONS
- Slightly frustrating at times
- Some Workshop mods may be incompatible because of the new updates.

Pros
+solid gameplay
+passable sound effects
+good level design, and distinguishable terrain. You won't get confused as to what's what. Very useful for this type of game
+Ability to plan out the execution of an entire mission, and watch your men methodically carry it out in seconds.
+Ai works well at following said plan
+Customization: Lots of gear to choose from and unlock.
+Level designer/randomizer: Unlimited replayability


Cons
- A little bit pricey for my taste. I prefer $10-15 at most for an indie game of this quality
- Still a few bugs to iron out
- Can get hard to plan moves for your last member on your team, as the order lines stack up


Techical issues
-Can't seem to plan my men to swap their weapons twice during the planning phase. I can tell my men at a certain point to pull out their secondaries, but I'm unable to tell them to swap back. I have to wait till they actually change weapons to order them swap back at a later time. Can be annoying when trying to unlock achievements for each level.

-Unable to hide other units command lines during planning phase. When you have commands issued for a large amount of soldiers, it looks like pasta all over the place. Can make it very hard to issue orders to the last soldier on your squad.

-Sometimes I want to order a certain swat member to throw a flash bang through a door, but a nearby teamate stacked on the door recieves the order instead. The game needs a toggle function for ordering stacked teamates to do something instead of the default choice.

-When cancelling a command, it sometimes does not dissapear, making you have to backtrack your soldiers moves a good bit to fix it, or restart them completely.

Each mission can be played and planned to your personal preference, go loud, stay stealth and adjust your mission plan mid gameplay with real time pausing. It has a great balance of intermediate to advanced mission planning while being fun at the same time.

Leveling up gives you a higher advantage and you will find you quickly get attached to your troopers - changing the way you plan each misssion to ensure their survivability.

There is plenty of gear and weapons to choose from which you unlock with stars which are given on the completion of a mission. These are easy to achieve so you will be able to get the gear you need for the mission at hand.

The Steam Workshop offers an already huge selection of user made maps, gear and weapons so your replayability is endless.

I'll admit, I haven't gotten very far, but the bit of it I did play was exceptionally good for what its supposed to be. The controls do seem to be a bit difficult to master, but at least for the simple mechanics, you do catch on quickly.

The action is quite tactical, no nonsense. I definitely get the feeling that there is an incredible amount of depth in the game, and already I'm looking forward to playing again.

The built in mod-ability and mission generation, combined with the fact that the game is built around its solid mechanics (rather than any sort of linear narrative) seems to ensure that the "dollars spent":"hours of fun" ratio is quite favorable.

This is strategy at its core! The tactical options are amazing while the controls are kept fairly simple as opposed to, say, Frozen Synapse. I think it cuts all the necessary clutter for this to be on of the best tactical games of recent times, and the power you feel while your masterplan unfolds is tremendous. Fan of any tactical games, Rainbow Sixes, SWATs or the like? Play this!

REVERSE WARNING: This is actually the only Early Access game that I bought without regretting it later.

Door Kickers is a solid top-down 2D tactical SWAT strategy / tactical / shooter title. You draw your troopers' paths with your mouse, place waypoints and commands and then watch the action unfold according to your plan. There is also the option to pause the action in real-time and switch orders on the fly. The game went through many iterations and improvements during early access, both frequent and meaningful in content and changes / fixes.

The biggest draws of the game (apart from the obvious - existing in a great genre that is virtually abandoned) is the fact that it has Steam Workshop support and an integrated level editor allowing for infinite content. When the core gameplay mechanics are as polished and as fun, even simple user-made maps can add tons of replayability to a game that is already quite large in beta form.

I bought this game in December 2013 and watched it blossom into the beautiful thing it is today, a couple of months before its final release. I recommend this wholeheartedly to anyone who is interested in the genre.

Door Kickers is a very interesting top down tactical real time strategy game where you control a team of SWAT agents with the task of eliminating groups of terrorists who are held up in a variety of increasingly difficult and hostile scenarios. The game offers a large amount of depth and content with fully customizable SWAT team, weapons, gear, and classes. The game shines in the planning stage where you are put in control of laying out the exact movements and actions of each SWAT agent, choose whether to go in guns blazing and blast down the door, or take a more stealthy approach and use spy cams to monitor your enemy’s movements before entering. You can take as many or as few times as you wish to pause the game on the fly mid action and adjust your plans to adapt to the hectic battlefield that unfolds as your agents press forward into the enemies territory; however, by far the most satisfying and rewarding part of the game is when you preplan and successfully defeat all the enemies in single attempt without pausing to adjust.

The game has a very satisfying level of difficulty that will definitely force you to retry missions multiple times until you learn from your mistakes, which at times may feel frustrating due to the varying random difficulty spikes that you will encounter, but this only adds more to the level of satisfaction you will feel when you successfully complete the mission. Upon completion of a mission you are scored by a 3 star system that varies based on your performance, the stars you earn are then used as the currency to upgrade your gear and purchase new weapons. The game features a ton of playable content, offering tons of levels to play in single player, campaign, and both a level and mission editor to create your own levels and share them via Steam Workshop Mods.

The game offers an incredibly high amount of content and depth with a very high replay-ability value, the game is truly an indie gem that has done an excellent job at captivating the feel from the Rainbow Six series and bringing it to 2014.

I couldn't expect something amazing due to tons of mediocre indie-games nowdays, but this one, GOD...

9.5/10

Pros:
- music is just brilliant = 40% of whole atmosphere (like Payday 1/2)
- very rich tactics. I don't know who is richer - Donald Trump or tactics here
- really fast and smooth client
- simultaneously shutting down 4 enemies by 4 troopers spawns huge 0rgasm. Sadly, this is not a joke :(
- tons of missions and ways to complete them. I mean, TONS
- slick and easy UI
- mods support
- mission generator + built-in mission maker + possibility to share it
- this is how every Warhammer40k tactical game should look like, just change the skin and you got mindbreaking legendary crusade

Cons:
- lack of narrative briefing for missions like story, characters and intrigue (remembering Gunpoint), just short descriptions
- when multiple troopers paths are crossed it is becomes too hard to micro-command like look there, step here
- RNG sometimes looks weird, like one try you one-shot everything and another one you're wasting whole magazine for one guy
- sometimes your troopers AI just stuck stopping your unit before some doors
- I know this is not the core, but I guess with some gorgeous graphics engine it would look just marvellous. Anyway, these guys did so amazing game, it's just very good VS best.

Verdict:
It was long time ago since I was so satisfied with some game. For tactics genre this title has everything, this is how small team stomps most of AAA brands.

Do you really like tactical games? This is the game for you. Take control of a SWAT team and take them through various police scenarios such as hostage rescues, imminent hostage executions, drug raids, arrest warrants, and VIP escorts. There are many weapons that have their own individual stats as well as a variety of different equipment from different types of kevlar vests that protect more or less from different angles (front, rear, and sides), to different types of grenades (flashbangs, stun grenades). There's other ways of breaching such as using breaching charges, shotguns, bolt cutters, and much more. This game reminds me of the old Rainbow Six games and the SWAT games as well.

It's like chess meets Arma meets Frozen Synapse meets SWAT! Perfect!

The only downside is the stairs, they haven't been implemented well so far.

having supported this game from alpha i can strongly say it has come leaps and bounds and the final release turned out far better than i could have ever imagined!!
