Update 1.03 Released, and a contest

Just when you thought you absolutely need that game that's on sale, here’s some new stuff for your Door Kickers. A LOT of fixes, but a new campaign too. Don’t worry, its a short one, or so it seems at first sight.

It shouldn’t be too hard to finish it, right? Well, then … the first person to send us a screenshot with the “Terror at Sea” Campaign Victory screen, in Iron Man mode, wins a trooper portrait and a limited run Door Kickers T-Shirt. Mail the screenshot to calicojack@inthekillhouse.com.

Now for the actual patch briefing:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Features:
- New campaign: Terror at Sea.
- 7 new weapons: 2 pistols, 4 long guns, 1 shotgun. You might find some new favorites here.
- Can now compare stats for weapons/armor/shields with the ones currently equipped.
- Campaign missions can be replayed as long as you don't play the next mission in line.
- Added "Delta" Go Code for all those that plan ahead.
- Two new ambient music tracks.
- Sniper: use TAB key for cycling between visible enemies.
- Added a "keep previous plan" checkbox in deploy screen.
- Replaced “switch to primary/secondary” waypoint action with a single switch-weapons waypoint. This will make planning ahead easier.
- Added campaign restart button.
- Added "how to play" video for Snipers.
- Red screen border when HUD is minimized and game is paused.
- Game will auto-restart when changing active mods or window resolution.
- When a flashbang waypoint is set on a door that gets opened by an AI, that waypoint is cancelled.
- Trooper no longer stops when given a direct "Reload" command. He stops at reload waypoints though.
- In-game Mods menu now has filters to help you browse more efficiently.

Fixes:
- Campaigns sometimes not finishing.
- Bug where trooper would go inside a door after lockpicking it.
- Breaching charge waypoints disabling themselves.
- Bug where trooper would kick doors while looking the opposite way.
- Deploying on maps with no deploy zones is done with the current equipment, instead of the default one.
- Can no longer interact with bystanders.
- Reload commands cancelling orientation commands.
- Broken sound/crashes for some Creative sound cards (replaced OpenAL with OpenAL Soft).
- Bolt cutters no longer show up for for Breachers when they don't have it equipped.
- Broken backgrounds for "no intel" maps.
- Some replays were impossible to export to video.
- Several bugs related to maps (impossible challenges, impossible to arrest enemies etc.).
- The random killhouse generator will generate *at least* a room.
- You no longer need to retrieve ALL dope items to get three stars.
- Increased timeout values when connecting to Steam Workshop.\
- Fixed enemies destroying dope even when stunned.
- Tooltips now show key shortcuts (if available).
- Out-of-screen indicators not correctly aligned for certain game resolutions.
- A bug related to restoring a plan that had hold/move waypoints.
- Enemies not patrolling on paths on floors other than the starting one.
- Linux/OSX not detecting conflicts between mods.
- Removed SHIFT=Right Click in OSX (would interact badly with path-lock and Steam overlay).

Have fun, keep eyes peeled for new game content coming out this December :)

Über dieses Spiel

Door Kickers is an innovative realtime strategy game that puts you in charge of a SWAT team and lets you command them during a tactical intervention.

Analyze the situation, plan team routes, choose equipment and breach points and coordinate multiple troopers to reach the hostage room before the bad guys get to press that trigger.

It may sound daunting, and like real world CQB combat, it sure is. But most levels can be completed in minutes and on the fly improvisation works. Achieving the perfect planning, getting the mission done with no false steps, that’s a skill harder to master.

Quick Points:

  • 2D, Top Down for optimal tactical analysis
  • Real Time With Free Pause
  • No turns, no hexes, no action points or awkward interfaces
  • Realistic but action packed
  • Non-linear levels, freeform gameplay
  • Mission editor and modability
  • Unlimited gameplay via mission generator and level editor
  • Single Player (but MP might come later)

Fazit:
Gerne zwischendurch zu spielen.

This brings back memories from the late 90s. This is the planning stage of Rainbow Six (the original) turned into a game and its done so right. Everything works smoothly and as expected and there is more content than I could have imagined. I'm not even done with all the single player missions (NOT INCLUDING THE CAMPAIGN), never mind having 3 stars on all of them. If you're a fan of top down tactics, you can't go wrong with this game.

Pros:
Workshop support for extra nostalgia addons
Controls
Art
Content Quantity
Content Quality

Cons:
I can't make a Shield Trooper and another trooper go at the same pace automatically, instead the guy behind winds up walking ahead of the shield so then he gets shot in the face a lot. Just requires some pausing and micro-managing.

Overall fantastic game.

Do you really like tactical games? This is the game for you. Take control of a SWAT team and take them through various police scenarios such as hostage rescues, imminent hostage executions, drug raids, arrest warrants, and VIP escorts. There are many weapons that have their own individual stats as well as a variety of different equipment from different types of kevlar vests that protect more or less from different angles (front, rear, and sides), to different types of grenades (flashbangs, stun grenades). There's other ways of breaching such as using breaching charges, shotguns, bolt cutters, and much more. This game reminds me of the old Rainbow Six games and the SWAT games as well.

Door Kickers!
The game about the Protagonist's Parents were killed by Doors!
You have to go to ikea and destroy every single door you see because they killed your fami-

Who am I kidding

Door Kicker, an Infantry Soldier who goes from house to house to kick down doors and storm entrances. Well, it's exactly what this game is. IT'S ALL ABOUT DOORS!
Well, not entirely about doors.

Door Kickers have you manage the action phase of a SWAT Team by using this Top-Down interface with various simple controls that is easy to use but learning to use them in a way that none of your troopers get killed is a mastery.

This game have you play like your favourite Slow and Methodical Tactical Shooters like Rainbow Six and SWAT.
Clearing rooms without a mistake, multiple entry points, breaching charges, flashbangs, arresting warrants, and rescuing hostages.

There is a lot more to Door Kickers but I am gonna leave that for you to discover because this game is HUGE.
It's simple... BUTT HUGE

I don't really have much to say about this game other than GET IT RIGHT NOW... or you can wait for a sale... whatever the choice may be.

My verdict for Door Kickers is 8/10
KillHouse Games, I want thank you for developing such a great game.

FYI: I had nostalgia playing this game thanks to a modder goes by the name, "Daimaju" for creating the Rainbow Six Soundmod. Oh hell yeah...

Pause. Plan. Execute.

The concept is pretty simple to pick up, but difficult to master. There is nothing more satisfying, however, than watching a plan that you've spent time carefully fine tuning and perfecting to flawlessly be carried out by a squad of 8 who proceed to drop bad guys like its the new fad, save hostages, and defuse bombs; all of which occurs in a matter of seconds.

There are 3 campaigns, close to a hundred single missions, and an in-game map editor to create your own missions. Lastly, my favorite, a scenario generator in which you chose the size of the map and the amount of resistance you're ready to throat punch and the game generates a mission for you. All of this leads to a lot of replayability.

Also included, is a progression and load out system that allows you to customize every member of your squad, from class and weapon selection to special equiptment, portrait, and names.

It's easy to see this game as a quick tactical shooting session and only expect to play in short increments, but its even easier to get hooked and start trying new strategies and techniques to get that 3 star rating on a mission.

At $20 I can see many people waiting for this to go on sale, but I can assure you that it is absolutely worth it's price.

This is definitely one of my favourite games of 2014. It may confuse people looking at the 2D grafics when I say this game is amazing in every aspect of it. But everything fits nicely: The grafics don't hide information and for me they manage to be detailed enough convey the narrative while giving my enough space for using my own imagination. The UI is simple and easy to use. The sound effects are subtle (which is important, as you are going to hear them way too often when trying to get a perfect rating on a map). And the equipment is surprisingly well balanced, and personally I prefer balance to realism (it is really hard to explain why two .223 rem rifles with 10" barrels, even if one is a long-stroke piston system and one short-stroke, would have so different power levels, but in the game, this makes both interesting). All leads to a very good immersion.

The difficulty level is somewhat self-adjusting, as most maps are easy to finish. But getting 3 stars, using only one plan, no interaction afterwards? That takes more than a lunch break.

It is not perfect yet, there could be some interface improvements when it comes to several troopers breaching the same door (whose tools are used) and a bit more synchronizing for cooperative action. And minor flaws like having female troopers but only a male voice set. And the three campaigns could do with some story texts. But these are trivial things that one will find in AAA productions, too.

From a software developer's perspective: Recently, I backed three games (on Kickstarter and elsewhere). Two (Wasteland, Jagged Alliance: Flashback) were a huge disappointment. Doorkickers was the only game that managed to continuously improve, seemed to have tight feedback cycles and was thought through from the beginning, so huge features did not come in late and were error-prone. And they polished their product before release. This speaks of a great development process and makes "In the killhouse" a company I would love to work with (if I were a game dev).

This game is top of the line and possibly the best tactics simulator ever. Large amounts of enemies. Brings a lot of tactical options with the "Go" system. Timing is everything in this game as it would be in reality.

Other games of this genre struggle. Suffiently stupid enemies, no fog of war, etc. but Door Kickers really does this genre proud.

I had the pleasure of looking at DoorKickers way back in Alpha and then again at the full release version. I'm glad it made it all the way through. It reminds me a lot of the tactical planner in pre-Raven Shield Rainbow Six games. You can carefully plan out your teams entry into an area swarming of enemies and maybe even hostages or adapt a plan on the fly. It can be pretty challenging too! The game has a fair amount of pre-made content for the price and also offers a stage builder to extend that further.

KillHouse Games provided me with a review copy to produce a first impressions video. If you'd like to see the game in motion and hear some more thoughts consider checking out the video below.

Fantastic game. Highly recommended. Harkens back to Rainbow Six (as you'll constantly read). Focusing on this game, however, it has solid gameplay mechanics. And is fair in it's execution. I did run in to one level that I couldn’t figure out but that was one level out of hundreds.

And yes, this game has 100s of prebuilt scenarios. Also, it has a random mission generator. You get your money's worth and it's fun.

There is not too much story -- actually, no story is fair to note but there is are 3 different "campaigns" that you can go through. Also the aforementioned 100s of missions and then the mission generator. So, again, a ton of content to be had.

I don't have many complaints with the game. I suppose I wish it explained some the gear a bit better but for the most part you figure it out. To the best of my knowledge, a good portion of items are interchangeable. I could be wrong, who knows...

Strongly recommended. Just buy it. Don't wait for a sale or anything silly. If you enjoy rainbow six (the planning phase, I should mention) and you like strat games, just buy it. It's an indie; support these guys and they can then bring out more awesome games.

The game is well optimized. It runs on my older laptops with ease as far as I can tell. No performance concerns to note.

Door Kickers is a pause and plan RTS with a focus on high energy, high impact tactical gunfights. You normally control a team of 2-8 SWAT personnel and are charged with eliminating tangoes, defusing bombs, rescuing hostages and all sorts of other goodness. The planning is intuitive & easy to implement. It can be done entirely through mouse commands or by using the keyboard to trigger go codes. Gameplay is fast and lethal - your SWAT wear body armor, but that doesn't mean they won't go down if someone empties a MAC-10 at them or if they step out in front of a shotgun. As a result, you're constantly planning how best to win the fight before your man is ever in view - distracting the enemies by popping a trooper into view and then flanking them, stunning them with flashbang grenades or whatever other fiendish tricks you manage to pull off.

Enemy A.I. varies from cautious (hunker down and wait) to aggressive (investigate gunfire/other loud sounds) and changes between playings. Most of the more complex scenarios offer several possible enemy set ups, deemphasizing puzzle-based planning and providing a more organic experience (is that room to the left clear or can it be safely ignored?). The enemies carry a full range of weapons and can even load up on heavy body armor - there are an unrealistically large number of tangos, but this yields a more satisfying experience and you'll find yourself going along with it.

Moreover, I have been playing Door Kickers since the alpha and, with each new iteration, the game has continued to grow and evole. The dedication of Killhouse Games to delivering the best product possible has been something to behold and I can say that from personal experience they are very receptive to feedback from the community. They have worked hard to pack a lot of value into the package - at present there are over seventy single player maps, plus three campaigns, a random scenario generator and an editor to enable users to design their own maps.

The game itself offers a wide variety of experiences, from simple missions that can be knocked out in a few minutes (when you're just looking for a quick release during downtime) to large, complex hostage rescues which require both planning and precision to pull off.

In short, this is one of the best computer game purchases I have made over the last couple years - if any of the above sounds appealing then I highly recommend picking the game up.

Anyone who wants a well styled and easy to learn but hard to master game , Door Kickers should be next on your buy list. When the game is first played many feel the top down style would only hinder the experience if anything it only enhances it as it makes you feel you have complete control over the situation creating a awesome experience.
Easy controls make the first few levels a walk in the park but full on hostage situations where the criminals are armed to teeth your going to need a plan from the start. Nothing is more satisfying than clearing a room full of gang members, defusing a bomb and then getting that 3 star rating.

Good game. Tactical RTS RPGish hybrid plenty of fun. The campaign however seems to suffer from bug in the second mission of the first campaign which lock you out of retrying if you hit continue instead of retry. Hope they will fix it soon. It's a very annoying bug and as far as i can tell the only fix right now is resetting your progress...
