We just launched Beta2 (the last update before the final game).
Even though we try to maximize backcompatibility, some things still need updating...that's the issue with Early Access modding :(

Therefore, if your mod:
- overwrites menus.xml or customization.xml: needs to be updated asap. It's a very high possibility that they will crash the game!
- overwrites the human/enemy textures in data/texture/humans: need to update! The game won't crash, but there will be a lot of glitches, like when enemies get flashbanged. This is because we added new animations.
- overwrites equipment.xml: update it, though everything will still work just fine.

We also added smoke to grenades, so if your mod adds grenades, you should do that too.

Door Kickers Final Beta and the road forward

Bad guys throw grenades and the power to draw walls is yours, with the improved Mission Editor.





This is the final beta we have planned before the Final, or Gold Release of Door Kickers.


We will now take some time to work on the remaining big features and polish the game some more, with the release coming no later than November 2014. As we are 100% dedicated to quality and our players, Door Kickers won’t be truly done until “it’s done”; expect progress to be made clear as time moves forward.

Now, back to the actual Beta you’re downloading: The Editor takes a big step towards allowing full level creation without the need for any external tools. For now you are able to create, move, rotate and resize walls, effectively shaping the tactical playground. Once walls are in place you can put windows over them, and doors and objects are added just as before.

For reference you can check the new “Home on the Hill” level by opening it up in editor, to see how the wall entities actually work in practice. The other official levels do NOT have editable walls, and writing walls directly into the map Alpha Channel is still possible.

There’s a map making contest on the way soon, so practice placing those walls…


Going into actual gameplay, we’ve made some fine or gross tunings to the game, progressing towards a more final version of control. Clicking on a trooper no longer deletes his path, but orders him to hold until further notice. See the orange hand that appears? Thats the Hold Icon. Clicking on the trooper again allows him to continue. The hold order should make on the fly trooper coordination easier, but if you’re one of those Go Code fanatics you’ll be happy to find out you can now use GoCodes multiple times on the same path, without losing them at the first issue.



Other important changes are the ability of your troopers to throw grenades around corners and the way your troopers turn automatically to engage known bad guy positions - the red shadows that stay in place after a lost contact.


And speaking of the bad guys, they now take longer to get back in the fight after being tazed or flashbanged. They need to get their hands on the weapons first, after all.

BTW, some of them now throw grenades, just saying ...


What else is New and Important in Beta 2 of Door Kickers:

- Controls change: single-clicking on a SWAT toggles a wait/resume waypoint.
- GoCode chaining: GoCodes of the same type are no longer activated all at once, therefore you can use the same GoCode multiple times along a path.
- Can now edit the names of your troopers.
- Added official/downloaded/editor filters to the single missions menu.
- Can now create entire maps from inside the editor (adding walls, editing parameters). Painting backgrounds is not yet available though.
- Decreased loading time.
- Improved SWAT AI.

Fixes:
- No longer auto-opening doors after lockpicking.
- Activating door waypoints ahead of time.
- No-pause challenge not working as intended.
- Fixed unable to pre-plan more than 4 flashbangs, where the trooper would only throw the first two.
- A bug with the saved plan diverging from the initial one.
- Crash when changing waypoint from flashbang to secondary weapon.
- Persistent orientation (strafe) waypoints being invalidated when activating a gocode.
- Bug where you could drag the path through walls in some situations.
- In some hardware configurations the game would not start on Linux even though the minimum requirements were met.
- Trooper getting blocked when changing weapons very close to a door.
- Trooper incorrectly waiting on a trooper that was in turn waiting on a door.
- Tazed/stunned enemies now recover with their weapon lowered.
- Can now shoot tazer over tazed enemies.
- Input issue on Linux where mouse commands would get lost.
- Enemies no longer block hidden-camera input when very they are underneath it.
- VIPs can no longer arrest suspects or disarm bombs.
- Changing from spycamera to flashbang no longer disables the waypoint.
- A rare replay desynchronization bug.

Modding / Structure changes:
- Warning: If your mod overwrites menus.xml or customization.xml, make sure to update it, since it may no longer work!
- Added smoke effect to grenades, therefore mods overwriting equipment.xml should update it, though everything will still work OK without it.
- Can now upload mods larger than 100 MB to Steam Workshop.
- Added door break sound for dynamic hammer. If your mod implements locked doors, you should update it.
- When uploading/updating a mod on Steam Workshop, the log will be displayed on screen.

It may sound daunting, and like real world CQB combat, it sure is. But most levels can be completed in minutes and on the fly improvisation works. Achieving the perfect planning, getting the mission done with no false steps, that’s a skill harder to master.

Door Kickers is currently in Beta, very playable but not finished yet. But our users and the press think its already very fun and addictive! And there's a lot of gameplay in over 70 handcrafted levels + the mission generator.

What can you actually expect? Obviously some features are not yet implemented. There are also small bugs or gameplay tuning issues and you can say the experience is not yet final quality. We are releasing regular updates to the game and will continue to do so, with an Estimated release of the final game in Q3 2014. Each update comes with new stuff, new toys, new levels.

By buying the game in Early Access you will also receive the full game, upon its release.

Door Kickers is a great game and has the makings of a great CQB training aid. The survival of your officers is heavily based on your ability to control your tactical angles. Real tactics, techniques, and procedures work (for the most part). As an added bonus, you can create videos of your playthroughs, which you can then edit and use it to help train your team, whether it be a video game clan, paintball, airsoft, or even actual military and law enforcement. By having a clear display of each officer's field of view, you can accurately portray sectors of fire and emphasize an understanding of the importance of angles. Add to this that you can create your own levels with nothing more than some photo editing software, and you have the ability to create any training aid or game level you wish, complex or simple.

Currently, this game is in Alpha. Right now, the game has a feel of many Android or Apple games, with a bunch of sequentially harder scenarios that you attempt to earn three stars on. Time is the primary factor for achieving the three stars, which is somewhat counter to how a SWAT team actually acts. Slow and safe is often preferred to fast and loose. Things have gotten a bit deeper as the game has progressed through its Alpha stage, with the addition of different classes, levels of armor, rank progression of your officers, and training unlocks. Updates have come at a very steady pace, and have consistantly added new great features that make me happy I bought the game.

This game can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it. Do you want to intricately plan out your entire team's movement with go codes and then press play and see what happens? Or do you want to work through the scenario as it plays out, pausing and unpausing to make changes on the fly or control an officer's field of fire directly? Either way works, and it's up to you.

This game is so much fun. You can run through a quick scenario to get your fix, or you can try for the best score on a hard level for hours. With new scenarios being added constantly by the community, and the ability to create random missions from any map, you have an endless amount of replay value.

REVERSE WARNING: This is actually the only Early Access game that I bought without regretting it later.

Door Kickers is a solid top-down 2D tactical SWAT strategy / tactical / shooter title. You draw your troopers' paths with your mouse, place waypoints and commands and then watch the action unfold according to your plan. There is also the option to pause the action in real-time and switch orders on the fly. The game went through many iterations and improvements during early access, both frequent and meaningful in content and changes / fixes.

The biggest draws of the game (apart from the obvious - existing in a great genre that is virtually abandoned) is the fact that it has Steam Workshop support and an integrated level editor allowing for infinite content. When the core gameplay mechanics are as polished and as fun, even simple user-made maps can add tons of replayability to a game that is already quite large in beta form.

I bought this game in December 2013 and watched it blossom into the beautiful thing it is today, a couple of months before its final release. I recommend this wholeheartedly to anyone who is interested in the genre.

Executing a perfect hostage rescue with simultaneous door breaches and flashbangs and a synchronized sniper shot through the window feels good. It doesn't even require crazy APM skills!

This is a very enjoyable squad tactics singleplayer game, real time with pause for orders. It's like Swat and early Rainbow Sixes combined with Frozen Synapse with a bit of Xcom-like squad development and permadeath. Missions are quick and intensive deathpuzzles with randomized parts and there's already a pretty well functioning random mission generator that's probably going to get even better. The top-down 2D style is neat looking while functional and the environments are nicely detailed.

Currently there's about 70 normal (not randomly generated) missions so it's got lots of content. It's already felt like a complete product in alpha and beta so I find it impossible that it would become worse as the development approaches 1.0 and more features are put in. Really good for those 15-minute lunch break-style playing timeslots.

Door Kickers may sound like a game where you play as a character whose family was killed by Doors.
Well, as silly as the title may sound, it's actually a Realistic SWAT Team management top down simulator.

The controls of the game is really simple and easy to get a hold off but learning how to use the controls for certain situations is the main point of this game.

Making sure your team's butt is covered, no one dies in the process, every corner is covered when securing a certain objective.
Just a bunch of stuff like that.

If you are a person who have played and love the old Rainbow Six games, i say give this game a try. If you're a person who likes fast paced shooters... Well, nah...

I personally love Door Kickers and im pretty much addicted. Im really excited about the End Product of this Well Built Game.

If you want a tactical, fun, infinitely replayable SWAT sim, you will adore this game. Especially with the monthly updates form the great dev team, this game is defiantely worth your money! For those who are interested in it, it is easily mod-able and has aboth a built in random level generator and an ability to make your own custom ones. I would definately give this game 10/10!

Door Kickers is one of the most extreme tactical SWAT games I have ever played. It offers hugely evolving gameplay and a load of weapon combinations to suit your playstyle. You will be able to use armories from multiple countries (Germany, France, UK, US, etc.) and also have different forms of each weapon (Silences, or non-silenced) for you to be able to in stealthily or blow your way into the enemy lines. You will also have the option of creativity as each time you do a mission you will want a new strategy, and it allows you to have multiple ways of getting into a room, from pick-locking a door to blowing it down with C4 or shottgunning the lock. You will also enjoy the challenging gameplay of only having a limited amount of men and will likely be outnumbered, forcing you to strategize and plan instead of rushing them like it's a Third-person shooter.

Also note this game is being created by a small, indie team. So you will not get updates every other day, but it seems so far they have been having extremely large updates every two weeks, which likely means they love there buyers so much they are over working themselves.

If you have the money, and enjoy planning and then watching your men burst in and dominate the enemy or have one thing go wrong and watch your team get slaughtered, then buy the game. It's fairly cheap and really innovative to the market, it's also in early access so there is so much more to come and it's completely playable and almost bug free in its current state.
