Akimbo Ranger Unit Reveal

[CLARIFICATION] JUST TO MAKE IT CLEAR THIS WAS AN APRIL FOOLS' JOKE

It’s the right time for our first player unit reveal from Task Force North – The Ranger Pointman Class.

Highly trained in the use of worn-out government-issued handguns, the Pointman dominates Close Range space without ever needing melee weapons or even holsters.

Once properly upgraded, he gains access to dual handguns and becomes the Akimbo Ranger, the ultimate pure CQB death dealer in Door Kickers metaverse as well as in a few others. Moreover, the handguns are now equipped with silencers, which obviously makes them completely silent and reliable.

Once a kill is achieved, the Akimbo Ranger automatically assumes specific celebration poses meant to demoralize all enemies within sight, as well as realism purists reading this text.

And what better and tactically sound way to celebrate Victory, than turning your back defiantly to the enemy? We’ll call this one, totally random, the “Over The Shoulder” pose.

Door Kickers 2 - Task Force North

The sequel to the critic and public-acclaimed Door Kickers moves the action to the Middle East and puts the player in control of military Special Operations Teams fighting an elusive Terrorist Network.

Gone are the SWAT shields and tazers, enter the beltfeds and frag grenades. Door Kickers 2 casts the player as leader of the eponymous Task Force, handling units such as the US Rangers and assets like drones to respond to threats, solve crises and hunt the enemy on his own turf.

Once the Tactics Phase starts, things are meatier and deadlier. Extraction and Insertion now become equally critical, but so does telling the bad guys from bystanders and innocents.

They say that great responsibility should actually come with greater power, so players can now take advantage of nighttime, darkness or even good old sneaking to surprise the enemy. New trooper classes, weapons, tools and gadgets open up the tactical options, but one thing does not change: You’ll live and you’ll die by your tactics.

And then you’ll hit Restart and try again.

To help with the challenge, Door Kickers 2 adds Cooperative Multiplayer to the existing mix of Single Player Missions and Campaign. And since you can never have too much content, the game comes with complete modding support, improved mission editor and partial source code access. Yes, we can; it’s our own custom built 3D engine. We’re cool, crazy, or most likely both.

(Special note for our fans and Doggy: Adversarial Multiplayer is still in the books but will make the subject of a separate announcement later this year)

Key points to Door Kickers 2 - Task Force North:

  • Choose which unit to deploy for each mission and adjust your tactics accordingly Surgical Operations or Overwhelming Firepower - anything is possible.
  • Use Night Vision, Drone reconnaissance and other realistic gadgets
  • True freeform tactics taken to the next level: Turn off the lights and hide in the dark. Break windows and jump over ledges.
  • Go fast to the target or slow and methodical. And if you make a mistake, adapt and overcome.
  • Face new threats such as suicide bombers, booby traps and RPG launchers.
  • Use new Tactical Abilities. Group your troopers for easier movement.Establish Rules of Engagement - you name it and … we’ll talk :)
  • Lots of hush hush stuff we’ll announce along the way. And take that literally ;)

Door Kickers 2 is expected to hit Early Access in Q4 2016 on Win/Mac/Linux, with Full Release on PC and handhelds coming later, aka “when they’re done”. All info and specifications subject to change. For more information keep in touch over at Facebook or Twitter, or drop us an email. We like that.

About Door Kickers: Door Kickers is a game about controlling Special Forces, drawing action plans for them and coordinating them during their tactical intervention. Released in October 2014, it was hailed as “Early Access done right” and currently holds an Overwhelmingly Positive Review Rating on Steam. It has sold over 250.000 units on all platforms combined, offers cross platform save compatibility and was named “Best Tactics Game of 2014” by RockPaperShotgun and “Runner-Up To Strategy Game of The Year 2015” by PocketTactics.

Recensies

“If you like your puzzles pausable and plausable, your firefights fierce and your tactical options abundant, this is sure to be one of the best things you buy this year.”
Rock, Paper, Shotgun

“Door Kickers is a game about cops kicking down doors, and these doors are a lot of fun to kick down. It is also very hard, and I love it for that.”
84 – PC Gamer

“It’s a thing of beauty and manages to capture the planning and satisfying execution of more complex strategy games, as well as the gung-ho and the popping-off of growly man in military shooters. (...) It’s probably the best man-shootery game I’ve played in years.”

Door Kickers Soundtrack Released!

Over dit spel

Door Kickers is an innovative realtime strategy game that puts you in charge of a SWAT team and lets you command them during a tactical intervention.

Analyze the situation, plan team routes, choose equipment and breach points and coordinate multiple troopers to reach the hostage room before the bad guys get to press that trigger.

It may sound daunting, and like real world CQB combat, it sure is. But most levels can be completed in minutes and on the fly improvisation works. Achieving the perfect planning, getting the mission done with no false steps, that’s a skill harder to master.

Quick Points:

  • 2D, Top Down for optimal tactical analysis
  • Real Time With Free Pause
  • No turns, no hexes, no action points or awkward interfaces
  • Realistic but action packed
  • Non-linear levels, freeform gameplay
  • Mission editor and modability
  • Unlimited gameplay via mission generator and level editor
  • Single Player (but MP might come later)

In the search for the ideal top-down tactical shooter, I've tried Hotline Miami (too twitchy), Forzen Synapse (too random), Monaco (close, but too gimmicky), and recent XCOMs (on the abstract side). None of them quite scratch the itch created by Julian Gollop games. Until Door Kickers.

The heart of the game is a series of buildings your SWAT team must clear of bad guys. Sometimes there's another objective such rescuing hostages or collecting evidence before the suspects can destroy it. These require various tactics and give the game flavor. But the core remains moving from one room to the next shooting people who are trying to shoot you.

Every character possesses some level of agency. Enemies (AKA, tangos) respond to sounds and other cues in reasonable ways. For instance, they might turn to face the door your pointman is forcing. Alternatively, they might decide to shoot the hostages or destroy the evidence. Your operators might ignore orders in order to respond to immediate threats. In fact, you don't order them to fire at all; you tell them where to go and they just take care of business.

As a result, you can set up a plan at the start of a level and let the game play itself. I know that sounds boring, but it really isn't. Plans involve dozens of little decisions, such as how to breach a door, where to toss a flashbang, when to turn to check a hallway and so on. You can charge though most levels with a lone shooter (there are achievements for it) or carefully coordinate a full team with go signals. If your plan works, the payoff is a minute or two of
perfectly choreographed violence.

Truthfully, however, perfect planning doesn't happen the first time around. More often I need to adjust because I failed check a blind spot or I blundered into shotgun crossfire. Plans can be redrawn on the fly or you can pause the action to give yourself time to think. Immediately after completion of a level, I find myself restarting it so that I can fine tune the plan.

There is an overarching game of unlocking tactics, roles and armament. Faster times unlock up to three stars for buying new guns, body armor and equipment. Officers earn experience points which open up new roles (assaulter, breacher, stealth and shield) and tactics. Missions can technically be played in any order, but the effect of the leveling system is to gate off more difficult levels. Skipping missions or forgetting to upgrade increases the challenge quickly.

On the other hand, once you have a stronger team, it's rewarding to go back to earlier levels and get an improved result. In addition, campaigns are unlocked once your squad levels up to a certain point. However, don't think of campaigns as stories since they are just missions strung together to force you to pay the consequences for deaths and injuries. I'd complain campaigns are too shallow if I weren't excited to play new maps.

Not that there's any lack of maps. In addition to 84 single missions and 6 campaigns, there are user-created missions for download and a map generator. These mean you will never need to play the same mission over again, but they also highlight the skill of official level designers. Levels designed by other users are wildly inconstant in challenge and quality. The generated levels can be anywhere from boring to near impossible depending on which settings you use and how the random number generator rolls.

In the final analysis, Door Kickers provides copious amounts of tactical decision making with simple controls and plenty of chrome.

I saw this game being played on Youtube by FXGamer Official, it caught my fancy. I have always enjoyed RTS games such as Empire Earth, Command and Conquer etc so this appeared to be an interesting take on it.
From playing it for about 10-15 hours now I can rightly say it is fresh new look on the RTS idea.
It is simple in concept and to actually play, however the levels provided offer many different tactical issues for you to overcome. It is a game that will actively make you think as well as try new plans, so far I have gone trhough a good section of the Single Mission section and played some randomly generated maps. I haven't even started the campaigns yet.

Definately well worth a look!

I used to play and love SWAT 2 back in the days and was rather amazed when I stumbled upon Door Kickers.
Having figured out that despite the concept and the game mechanics, those two games are hardly comparable, I thought I'd be disappointed but actually, the opposite was the case. I really dig the RPG element of being able to level your squad and gain various traits.
It's easy to get the hang of the game, but that doesn't mean there's no challenge involved. Only thing I'm missing a bit is that I can't play on the terrorist side - but that would be rather difficult to implement anyways.

All in all, neat game I absolutely enjoy.

The controls are hard to get a handle of. It feels more complicated than it needs to be. More options don't mean better design. I wanted to love it but I had to drop it. I feel like this was designed for mobile, yet I can only imagine this being way more difficult on mobile.

I do not see what all the hype is about here... This game is atrocious the design quality is shocking, yes it's unique but look beyond that and it's quite obviouls it was built on a budget and the gameplay is quite dull. The looping soundtrack wears thin after a while, and the game is an all around disaster Caveat Empor - Buyer Beware.

I really really dont get the positive reviews. Has the gaming comunity lost standards? This is just another mobile game that should stay that way, a mobile game. Unless you are runing a macintosh and cant run decent games, by all means go ahead and sink your precious life time in this.

THis is amazing. The speed of execution is just amazing. Planning everything from view angle, walk speed, shootout timing. This game is super flexible. With the addition of the community mods, the game transcended into higher levels of divinity.

Amazing capabilty, video of replay, random spawns and high level of planning really gives this game its own name.

Firstly this game is a masterpiece. And i love that there are the ups and downs but in general this game has no mistakes.

Pro's:
Tactical
Map Editor
Workshop
LOTS of maps
top-down

Con's:
Maps disapear
cant see downloaded maps
map editor is jerk sometimes
damn storage

Conclusion:Game is well developed and made. Though there are some bugs and mistakes the game is great and well worth 50 hours of my life. i have had so much fun with this game and it barely even requires a gaming pc. Get this game while its on sale its great and worth the money.

By the discription expected a law enforcement / SWAT type game. Unfortunantly much of what would make this an accuarete police type game is missing and this is essentically a military combat game dressed up to look like a law enforcement one. Had this been advertised as a military responce game rather than "in charge of a SWAT team" it could be evaluated on a different level. But as it stands it does not deliver on what it is promoted to be.

The best top down special forces/armed warfare strategy games I have played.
Now, the good...
1. Units can react to different events on their own (no micro-micro strategy)
2. You organize the overall plan, very tactical with even the capability to have different points, so you can say move to point A -they will move to the pre planned locations, then move to point B etc...
3. Mods increase the scope of the game drastically
4. Stellar music, fits the game well
5. Small additions such as realistic tactical radio speak adds to the athmosphere

Now, the bad...really had to think up of ones but they are both not too important though!
1. campaign could be better? more interactive perhaps with cutscenes?
2. multiplayer mode, you command one squad the other guy command the other

On the positive side... this game rocks. The top down view combined with the controls are awesome. Gun selection, character creation, custom map editor, the list goes on and on.

On the negative side... NO STORY AT ALL. I like a story! But in this game you will have to imagine a story, or you will just be playing a ton of kill the bad guy maps.

Even without a storyline I have no regrets.

Door Kickers was a huge surprise for me. A friend gifted me a copy and I have to say Door Kickers is like drugs, once it gets a hold of you you just don't want to stop playing. Door Kickers has you managing a SWAT team with upgradeable skills and equipment. During the missions there are a variety of objectives such as collecting evidence, defusing bombs, saving hostages, or just eliminating hostiles. You set up your team at the beginning of the mission and then plan out what they are going to do, once you press play the SWAT team runs into action performing all teh actions you set before hand.

Now in Door Kickers you can watch your plan play out on screen, hoping for the best and restart if something goes awry, however if you are not worried about getting a "perfect plan" you can pause and modify your actions for your team at any time! There are a few different options when it comes to mission modes. You have the single missions, for quick play, you have the mission generator that lets you generate missions based on a few different parameters, and then you have the campaigns. There are a good handful of playable campaigns each with a variety of challenges and difficulties.

If you couple that with the tons of different equipment and classes each SWAT member can have you are talking tons of gameplay and variation! If it did not sound like it could be any better Door Kickers also has mod and Steam workshop support!

If any of the above sounds interesting I urge you to check out Door Kickers, or even the upcoming Door Kickers 2!

Really feels like Rainbow Six, but in top down view.

Still a simple game, but still a very nice & polished product.

Highly recomended.

This is probably one of the best tactical games I've ever played.

Every mission requires precise planning, a good loadout for the situation, and teamwork. You can't just run in and shoot up the place and win. You must use your squad to execute precise maneuvers in order to complete the objective with minimal SWAT casualties. For example, using a spy camera will give you the upper hand when breaching a door, so you know the enemy positions before entering the room, and your squad will know where to aim beforehand. In other situations, using the spy camera is not the best option, because there might only be a small hallway on the other side of the door, and checking first might slow you down, as you are racing the clock. Most missions will have an objective time goal, which you must beat to get the maximum amount of points, so completing the mission in a quick, clean manner is the optimal goal.

Now, twenty dollars might seem like a hefty price for a game like this, but there are three main campaigns, each with at least an hour or more in them, and a ton of single missions, mostly involving just clearing a compound of bad guys. The Steam Workshop offers many player-made campaigns, many of which are very well-made and add many hours of playtime to this game. In my opinion, $20 is a worthy price for this game, but if this isn't at the top of your wishlist, I would reccomend buying it when it goes on sale.

Rank: 7.5/10
Recommendation(s): Be roughly familiar with firearms terminology.
Major Theme: Well constructed, UGC friendly, top down tactics shooter.
Bought at Price: $5.50 (Steam Sale)

I quite enjoyed this game, but I certainly wouldn’t place it into the “must play” or “should play” for most people.

If you are not familiar with some of the firearms terminology used extensively throughout the game, you will find that things don’t make sense. One such example is level III vs. IIIA armor. There’s a wide selection of gear to pick from (a surprise in such games), and purely picking based on stats and names will lend you a bad time.

That being said, 12 hours of gameplay certainly gets across the point of the game, and that’s where you should find yourself with a complete campaign, and all the weapons you want unlocked.

Unlocks in this game are very much like other games in this genre, where points/stars from mission ratings allow you to unlock gear and weapons. If you end up doing poorly, you will obviously receive fewer stars and thus less gear and weapons.

Levels and campaigns are unique and interesting – but just as in Breach & Clear – the maps could do with more dynamic elements to them. Perhaps this will be explored in Door Kickers 2?

To tide players over until the release of the next game, Door Kickers extensively supports user generated content (UGC), where you can add more maps, UI changes, and core gameplay changes as well. The level editor could have used more polish, but certainly does get the job done.

Just recently I have noticed stuttering in my game for a few seconds here and there. I haven’t been able to track down the source of this, but it’s manageable. Your experience will most likely be different in this regard.

If you are in a tussle in choosing between Door Kickers and Breach & Clear, I would recommend Door Kickers. You can see my review on the other game, as well as note the large difference in playtime I have.

The store page description said it clear:
Real Time with Free Pause
No turns, no hexes, no action points or awkward interfaces
Realistic but action packed
Those points made me buy the game, and I was never disappointed. Door Kickers is best SWAT type tactical strategy you will ever play.
The game offers many customization for your squad, many type of weapons and tools to choose from.
There are tons of missions and campaigns, with ability to build your own mission and share it on steamwrokshop.
The main things that made me really enjoy this game is the planning, the more you plan and make sure you use the right tools in right position the more of chance you will pass the mission, the beautiful thing that once you hit the unpause button you will see how your orchestrated plan going, and if it works as you plan and succeed, you will feel the satisfaction in such way that you will never feel it in any other similar game.
The game use simple 2D graphics, but with many details to reload and recoil of each weapon.
I totally recommend this game for any tactical games fans, it is great value of money.

I'm not one to write many reviews nor do I often play tactics based games like this. The fact that I am writing a positive review for this game refelects how enjoyable I have found it. I love the level challenges and find that the difficulty is set just right. My biggest disappointment is that a very well thought out run can be won or lost by the random location of enemies and/or the enemies' marksmanship. Sometimes you can blitz through a level with impressive results but re-run a level you only needed a minor tweak to, in order to improve your time, can result in you looping thorugh the exact same plan 30 times before it works again.
There are so many areas to work with and a varied set of levels, plus the ability to make your own or import others, that it keeps you playing. The RPG like development of team members also adds a good dimension to the gameplay, especially if you play through all the levels with a single squad member

Overall I'd give this game 8 out of 10, the effect of randomising the enemies being the main issue. I don't expect it to be exactly the same every time but it needs to reduce the luck factor.

Strategic and sometimes brutally difficult.
There are some moments where the game is downright frustrating and forces a lot of trial and error upon you. Carefully planning a mission, seeing everything work out, making it to the final door and then losing the mission because a hostage gets shot a millisecond before you shoot the bad guy...and then having to start all over...not the best game design choice.
Still, when the game mechanics work, it is a lot of fun.
Also contains a load of content for a game at this price.

This game is totally worth it's price.

You are in command of your own SWAT team which task is to: defuse bombs, kill terrorists or cartel members, rescue hostages and escort VIPs. While playing trough the different campaigns or single missions you earn points to spend on your equipment and your doctrine.

It includes a map editor and an active mod community.
