Akimbo Ranger Unit Reveal

[CLARIFICATION] JUST TO MAKE IT CLEAR THIS WAS AN APRIL FOOLS' JOKE

It’s the right time for our first player unit reveal from Task Force North – The Ranger Pointman Class.

Highly trained in the use of worn-out government-issued handguns, the Pointman dominates Close Range space without ever needing melee weapons or even holsters.

Once properly upgraded, he gains access to dual handguns and becomes the Akimbo Ranger, the ultimate pure CQB death dealer in Door Kickers metaverse as well as in a few others. Moreover, the handguns are now equipped with silencers, which obviously makes them completely silent and reliable.

Once a kill is achieved, the Akimbo Ranger automatically assumes specific celebration poses meant to demoralize all enemies within sight, as well as realism purists reading this text.

And what better and tactically sound way to celebrate Victory, than turning your back defiantly to the enemy? We’ll call this one, totally random, the “Over The Shoulder” pose.

Door Kickers 2 - Task Force North

The sequel to the critic and public-acclaimed Door Kickers moves the action to the Middle East and puts the player in control of military Special Operations Teams fighting an elusive Terrorist Network.

Gone are the SWAT shields and tazers, enter the beltfeds and frag grenades. Door Kickers 2 casts the player as leader of the eponymous Task Force, handling units such as the US Rangers and assets like drones to respond to threats, solve crises and hunt the enemy on his own turf.

Once the Tactics Phase starts, things are meatier and deadlier. Extraction and Insertion now become equally critical, but so does telling the bad guys from bystanders and innocents.

They say that great responsibility should actually come with greater power, so players can now take advantage of nighttime, darkness or even good old sneaking to surprise the enemy. New trooper classes, weapons, tools and gadgets open up the tactical options, but one thing does not change: You’ll live and you’ll die by your tactics.

And then you’ll hit Restart and try again.

To help with the challenge, Door Kickers 2 adds Cooperative Multiplayer to the existing mix of Single Player Missions and Campaign. And since you can never have too much content, the game comes with complete modding support, improved mission editor and partial source code access. Yes, we can; it’s our own custom built 3D engine. We’re cool, crazy, or most likely both.

(Special note for our fans and Doggy: Adversarial Multiplayer is still in the books but will make the subject of a separate announcement later this year)

Key points to Door Kickers 2 - Task Force North:

  • Choose which unit to deploy for each mission and adjust your tactics accordingly Surgical Operations or Overwhelming Firepower - anything is possible.
  • Use Night Vision, Drone reconnaissance and other realistic gadgets
  • True freeform tactics taken to the next level: Turn off the lights and hide in the dark. Break windows and jump over ledges.
  • Go fast to the target or slow and methodical. And if you make a mistake, adapt and overcome.
  • Face new threats such as suicide bombers, booby traps and RPG launchers.
  • Use new Tactical Abilities. Group your troopers for easier movement.Establish Rules of Engagement - you name it and … we’ll talk :)
  • Lots of hush hush stuff we’ll announce along the way. And take that literally ;)

Door Kickers 2 is expected to hit Early Access in Q4 2016 on Win/Mac/Linux, with Full Release on PC and handhelds coming later, aka “when they’re done”. All info and specifications subject to change. For more information keep in touch over at Facebook or Twitter, or drop us an email. We like that.

“If you like your puzzles pausable and plausable, your firefights fierce and your tactical options abundant, this is sure to be one of the best things you buy this year.”

“Door Kickers is a game about cops kicking down doors, and these doors are a lot of fun to kick down. It is also very hard, and I love it for that.”

“It’s a thing of beauty and manages to capture the planning and satisfying execution of more complex strategy games, as well as the gung-ho and the popping-off of growly man in military shooters. (...) It’s probably the best man-shootery game I’ve played in years.”

About This Game

Door Kickers is an innovative realtime strategy game that puts you in charge of a SWAT team and lets you command them during a tactical intervention.

Analyze the situation, plan team routes, choose equipment and breach points and coordinate multiple troopers to reach the hostage room before the bad guys get to press that trigger.

It may sound daunting, and like real world CQB combat, it sure is. But most levels can be completed in minutes and on the fly improvisation works. Achieving the perfect planning, getting the mission done with no false steps, that’s a skill harder to master.

Quick Points:

  • 2D, Top Down for optimal tactical analysis
  • Real Time With Free Pause
  • No turns, no hexes, no action points or awkward interfaces
  • Realistic but action packed
  • Non-linear levels, freeform gameplay
  • Mission editor and modability
  • Unlimited gameplay via mission generator and level editor
  • Single Player (but MP might come later)

The full price of $19.99 is a little expensive in my opinion however at 85% off during the summer sale this game is only $2.99 and it is well worth it. Door Kickers is a very nicely made strategy game with multiple classes of units such as assaulters with automatic rifles and breachers who carry a shield and are more resilient to enemy fire. When Starting a level you can attempt to plan the whole mission out from start to finish or micromanage your unitis in real time. You are also able to pause the action to adjust your plan if needed at any point during a level.

I consider this game a spiritual successor to the original Rainbow Six titles. You select your roster, plan their points of entry and the paths they'll take during the mission, then you watch it all come to life. If you're quick enough, you can change your squad members' tactics on the fly in real-time, or you can just pause the action and make your adjustments from there. All in all, this game feels very good and it's easy to lose hours retrying one mission just to make it come out perfectly.

Unlike Rainbow Six, you actually have to unlock all of the different weapons and specializations which gives the game a bit of an RPG feel, if not a bit frustrating for people who immediately want to use an assault rifle. There's multiple stock campaigns, and a good amount of user-created content as well. If you're looking for a true spiritual successor to OG R6, and are willing to settle for top-down graphics, this game is for you.

The solutions to the puzzles are all based on what the computers random number generators decides; the same plans can work perfectly then not at all completely arbitrarily and the swat AI is as stupid as programming, doing exactly what you tell them all of the time regardless of intentions; for example if you say to enter a room and check to make sure everyone is dead then leave they will enter, look in one corner, call it good (while being shot at from the other side) and then casually leave the room while still under fire.

First of All, I really love this game. Fantastic. So I cant completely see the negative sides to this game. However I will try my best at looking at the good and bad points of the game.

Pro:
Very tactical gameplay. The gameplay is very much a learning experience because you learn through doing missions for example that different methods of destructing doors are important if you want to sneak in, or breach in and kill everyone in 2 seconds.
Good soundtracks. I personally think that the soundtrack works greatly with the game and makes the game more interesting.
Good voices. All your soldiers have voices to which adds a personality to the characters you play with.
Con:
Some minor bugs such as crashing after clicking to often or the soundtrack hanging up and repating one note for 10 seconds.
Well its top down view. I personally like top down view but I would understand if people dont like that. However I dont understand why you would buy the game if you didnt like top down view.

Who would have thought kicking in doors would be so fun! No complaints and you can play it in short bursts without it being a timebuster that some games can be.

If you want to buy the game then be prepared. It is sooo much fun.
yes sometimes you get fustrated because the hostage is in the line of fire. this game takes time and planing so be patience.

The feaeture where you can make your own maps is very enlightening to see my creations in a game!

Allows for real-time tactics if you dislike fully turn-based gameplay, giving you the best of both worlds. Commandos and SWAT 4 players should try this. Overwhelmingly Positive? Without question. 10/10

I got this game as a birthday present from a distant friend. He knew my passion for strategy and planning.

It is hard to add to the many other positive reviews. On the plus side, this game is well-thought, simple, and yet it allows for various degrees of sophistication. In particular, I like the opportunity to try different gaming styles (planner, aggressive, solo, non-lethal, etc.). This adds to a high degree of replayability, with achievements that will satisfy all the min-maxers around the globe. Another praiseworthy feature is the possibilty to download further content, both official and user-generated.

On the aesthetic side, scenarios are pleasing to the eye and graphics are detailed without overworking the engine (as it is expected in such 2D map games).

I didn't really like the star system, becaue it rewards timekeepers over perfectionists. Moreover, it makes it very easy to access powerful gear very early in the game, but apparently that's also true for real life: some of the most effective guns in the world are not the most expensive, and have been around for ages. Random mission generator is a bit boring, though, and this game's strength are the campaign and official missions, each of them with their own peculiarity (storming the embassy, freeing a cruise ship, boarding a plane, etc.). In my version of the game I miss a "shuffle" button for randomly generated maps: this means I have to enter and exit the menu to generate new keys and new scenarios. Finally, although background audio effects are interesting at first, they become repetitive quite soon.

Overall, my judgement is more than positive, because the pros clearly outweight the few cons of the game. My congratulations to all developers, artist, and producers for such a neat product. Also, a big thank you to Texisthelex for having sent me this gift.

This game is great, I have logged a ton of time on this game and consider it to be my favorite steam game of all time. Even though it is expensive it has a ton of content and allows you to generate your own missions and download other peoples creations form the workshop.

Pros:
A ton of content
Easy to learn controls
Does not require a beefy computer
Steam workshop allows you to download mods and missions
Allows you to replay and edit you plan for each mission

Cons:
$20 price tag(some people think this is a con but i think the game is worth it)
Hard to edit small parts of a troopers path
No multiplayer
I can't play door kickers and write this review at the same time

In conclusion I recommend this game to anyone who likes casual strategy or fps games.

Door Kickers focuses on managing your team to complete various complex missions, ranging from killing a set amount of hostiles, to rescuing hostages, to disarming bombs, to arresting a specific target.Door Kickers really shines with its Real-time strategy elements, which reminds me a lot of the classic real time strategy shooter, Jagged Alliance. It allows you to choose to pause the game at any time to manage your team, using really simple and intuitive controls. I was surprised at how easy everything worked once I understood how to play.

I found Door Kickers to be really fun to play. It does take a bit of time getting used to the controls and managing your team, but once you get the controls down you can easily get addicted to playing the game and finding new ways to complete the missions. You can also edit and create your own levels using the built in game editor, adding hours of extra game content.

THE GOOD
+ A refreshing gameplay experience
+ An interesting blend of puzzle and action
+ Huge variety of weapons and equipment
+ Addicting gameplay, you feel the need to beat every level in one plan and with one soldier

THE BAD
- Weak toturial
- Stealth class seems to make Assaulter unnecessary
- Can be frustrating at times

There is something so satisfying about 4 SWAT members rushing in a room, flashing and killing all criminals just like you planed it.
And it's not just the official maps. You can spend hours just on a good community map, improving your plan to perfection.

Incredibly satisfying game with challenging levels, yet easy to master mechanics. Very simple art style and gameplay that manages to feel rewarding everytime you roll through a level, watching your operators execute your plans and complete their objectives. The game comes with a ton of levels and once you beat those offers egregiously easy access to user created material to keep the game going.

Pros:
Great gameplay.
Great value.
Virtually infinite replayability with a built in feature to randomly generate levels.
Simple, attractive art style.
Enjoyable soundtrack.
Easy to grasp concept.

Cons:
I genuinely can not think of one. They really have made a perfect game.

I can confidently give this game a perfect 10/10 score. It does everything it promises and it does it very well.
