Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars unveils the future of RTS gaming by bringing you back to where it all began: the Tiberium Universe. I have always enjoyed the Command & Conquer series. With the exception of 4: Tiberian Twilight, this series has been the granddaddy of RTS games to me, and you'd be hard pressed to make me dislike the series.

C&C 3: Tiberium Wars, as you may have guessed, is the third main entry in the Tiberian Universe. The Global Defense Initiative and the Brotherhood of Nod are at it again in the third world-wide firestorm to occur after the appearance of the deadly crystal, Tiberium. In the perspective of both campaigns, you command forces of the two factions in an effort to dominate the enemy.

Some missions have you build up a base, assemble a strike force, and proceed to take out an objective before your enemy destroys you first. You construct buildings to train/upgrade your forces, and need to divide your attention on taking out the enemy base, while making sure the enemy doesn't destroy yours. In the process, you harvest Tiberium to help fund your genocidal conquest of the map.

Those missions... suck.

However! Some missions give you a limited number of units to strike your foes where it hurts, like one mission in the GDI campaign where you have to use mobile Battle Bases to keep vehicles repaired while you destroy a Nod vehicle stockpile. I have a lot more fun with those missions, because I have more fun being given limited forces than maintaining a base while trying to accomplish a hard objective.

Completing the GDI and Nod campaigns unlocks a third campaign for a new faction: The Scrin, an insectoid alien race.

The campaign mode shows you a map of "Theatres," which each contain a number of missions. Between them, GDI and Nod both have the same number of missions: 17 for each of them, for a total of 34 maps. The unlockable Scrin campaign has 4 missions, which leads to a final total of 38 levels.

When you pick a mission to play, you're given the option of playing on Easy, Normal, or Hard difficulties, with the enemy's units packing more of a punch and being a bit tougher the higher you go. Beating a mission will award you a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Medal, respectively. However, as far as I know, the types of medals you actually earn have no effect on gameplay rewards, so if it's your first time playing, don't feel bad for playing on Easy, 'cuz it's a challenge even then. :avgnmad:

Each mission also has a set of optional bonus objectives; completing them will add a nice little stripe to your medal at the end of a mission. Also, the game has an intelligence database for the two (actually three) factions. Getting these entries often requires completing bonus objectives, but destroying a special enemy unit, just playing on, building a special structure, etc. will let you get even more. Getting all intel entries adds another nice completion stripe to your end-of-level medal!

(Now, if you're a story hound like me, this'll let give a lot of interesting stuff to read about the game's world. If not, then there's no shame in missing a couple.)

Even without online functionality, the Skirmish mode is fun, too. Here, you can either team up with friendly AI from the factions and/or pit yourself against opponents, both of which have adjustable difficulty levels. Maps can support 2, 3, 4, 6, or even 8 bases to wage war on each other!

Overall, Tiberium Wars sticks to what worked in the series so far and, while not quite having the same charm as Tiberian Sun, it still stands as a nice game that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who likes the genre.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars keeps to the roots of the C&C genre in terms of base building, unit construction, and faction diversity. Minor changes are resource generation (Pre determined pools of tiberium exist), the special abilities of the factions, and trying to keep your enemy from unit swarming you (good luck with that haha). This is possibly the last true C&C game to come from EA that retains much of the C&C core (don't get me wrong, the Red Alert, Generals, and Kane's Wrath timelines are fun to play as well, not to mention KW is a throwback to Tiberian Sun in a manner). C&C 3 is also fun because you actually get to duke it out in diverse areas and SOME important cities all around the globe.

I strongly recommend this game to any 90's kid.

This game is fantastic. Possibly my favorite game of all time. There is one major problem however... It does not, at this time run on Windows 10... EA also shut down the multiplayer servers. If you don't have Windows 10, get it. Even without the servers it's a great game.

This game is one of the most legendary Strategy games that you can play. The last good c&c in this game there was awesome base building massive armies! But they destroyed it all in c&c 4 they took everything that made c&c and threw it out of the window. DO NOT BUY C&C 4. this game was good. they took multiplayer down but you can stil play whit gameranger and Hamachi works too.

A sci-fi RTS with a grotesque alien race. What more could one wish for?

Awesomitude
- Easy to learn and play
- Alien faction
- Just enough strategy to be super fun without having to commit to something more complex like the TW series
- Has an alien faction
- Very nice sound design in general
- Did I mention the alien faction?
- Crippling your enemies with a superweapon, then moving in with a vast (alien) army and thoroughly annihilating them
- The awesomely cliche insectoid alien faction
- None of the lag problems more modern RTS's tend to haveo
- ALIENS!
- Exploding things all over the screen
- Aliens doing the exploding

Badness
- The live-action cutscenes don't have the best writing and some of the actors aren't so great
- The campaign story is uber predictable
- Incidental voice-acting suffers from the same problem as the cutscenes ("Down with GDI!" ...seriously? You're a militant cult faction who very obviously wants GDI to go down and that's all you can think up?)
- Fairly predictable AI (though several "brains" - balanced, turtle, rusher, etc. - make it a bit better)

Rating (relative to the RTS genre): 8.644143 out of 10
