This is a pretty good game. It's nice to see Cabela produce a reasonably realistic hunting sim. Too many Cabela games are hunting-themed action shooters. I like games like that, but it's good to see something different.
Price: Very reasonable. $29.95 is very fair for the content you recieve.
Stability: Excellent! I've played about 27 hours and have yet to experiance a single crash.
Graphics: Very nice. Not cutting-edge, but certainly acceptable.
Realism: Good compared to most Cabela games, but not super realistic. Strikes a good balance between realism and action without being too dumbed down. If you want an uber-realistic hunting game that requires lots of time and patience, try an online game called The Hunter.
Content: Good selection of weapons and gear. Maps are well done and really provide a feel for the different regions of North America. A few more species would have been nice. Cougar, Javelina and Bison should have been included for example. Still, not bad. The bullet-cam is awesome.
Minor flaws: Ammo loadout is much too limited. Birds and small game have poor AI and behave unrealisticly.
Major flaws: There are two. I will discuss each in turn.
First. You MUST finish every storyline hunt in a particular region before you can unlock the next region. For example you start in the Southeast; you must finish all 10 storyline missions there to unlock the Northeast, and so on. This is not really all that hard mind you. There are 40 storyline missions in total and I was able to finish them all in 25 hours. But that's not the point. Point is, if you buy this game you should have the option of ignoring the storyline campaign alltogether and hunting anytime, anywere, in any region. Unfortunatly, you don't have that option until all the campaign is completed.
Second. The storyline missions are EXTREMELY linear. You must hunt a particular species. You must complete your mission in a certain time limit. You must use a particular weapon, or a very limited selection of weapons. You must meet certain special conditions. etc.etc. This can be very tedious.
Overall, however, I am well pleased with Cabela's Big Game Hunter Pro Hunts. It's positive aspects definitely outweigh its flaws. This game should appeal to fans of hunting games and casual gamers alike. Keep up the good work Cabela! I give it 7 out of 10.
