this is a mixed review, both positive and negative (mostly negative):
lets start by address the elephant in the room, this game is terrabad. So bad i feel sorry for and wish i could refund the people who were promised a good game during early access days and were greatly dissapointed. Even by early access standards this was more of a cash grab and run then instead of trying to at least make the game salvageable so that people get at least half of what their monies worth in the game was. I got it during the steam summer sale about 3 watcher copies (standard copies) for about 10 bucks, so i was not ripped off as much as other people who bought it during early access or any other time it was higher than it is currently. This game is awful, but where should i start. There are so many things wrong with this game it's impossible to start or seperate them (i tried as best as i could to put it into words sorry if there is any misunderstanding):
The devs handed it over to another dev team and thats when it happened, the fall of nether (not in anyway related to the game's storyline). This game was already headed in the path of destruction. Now it was still in alpha mode pre-steam sale mind you, but the devs (prev) rushed it too fast and switched the tags from alpaha mode to fully completed version. Idk if the new dev team is trying to salvage anything from this game, or just making it worse. Either way both are at fault here.
Continuing, The devs did something that probably caused this game to show its true colors from the start, they made it pay2win. Now, nether gold was an option before, and you could buy in game items with it as well, but only limited to cosmetics. and taunts as well as some specifics like keys and nether potions. But this was cast aside when they up'd the price for items in game, up'd the amount of nether gold required to buy items, and made everything buyable, not only cosmetics and taunts but in game items such as health and food. It did not help that a message was deleted saying nether gold would be only used exclusively for cosmetics from both the website and the gaming page on steam.
Cont. the devs completely ignore the game's current status, such as in game bugs glitches and hacks, yes hacks, a survival game with hackers that never usually get banned, even if you post the person's name, steam name, and a video of it (although naming and shaming is frowned upon mind you, so thats why no one does it but when they do....nothing happens to them). Instead they focus fixing the small things and even added a new gamemode currently (which recently now costs money as it is a dlc, unless you got another package other than the standard copy of the game [nether watcher]). To top it all off, half the map isnt even completed yet, there are still pitch black areas that are inaccessable unless with either hacks or glitches.
This game crashes, not only me or some people, but for everyone it at least crashes once, and thats if you're lucky and it doesnt happen again, ever!
The playerbase for nether is also a joke. It either consits of hackers or rabbid fanboys who attack anyone who makes a slight comment on how the game is bad in the slightest denomination (ex: the lighting is off by a little). Infact, i would contribute a good 10% (being very generous and saying this is the minimum amount) to the games downfall. With players like this they scared off/discouraged any other players from pursing the game further and basicaly made them quit the game.
to top the icing on the cake, this game has problems even logging in or creating an account. There are so many potential gamers that bought the game recently, and people will keep buying it just to try it out. The problem is they can't. They can't even make a username and password to login. The game is literally destroying its future sources of income, and any hope of increasing its playerbase.
now lets address the sliver lining in this review, this game is fun. I will not deny i had fun playing this game despite all its flaws, glitches, and current path its headed on. In fact, fix all the bugs, glitches, get rid of the hackers or at least stop the inflow of hacks, be able to run the game or even make an account, and this game will provide you with a unique experience.
This was my first survival game other than minecraft and unturned that was in 1080p, and although i couldnt run the graphics on my computer, it was still not as pixilated. This game is fun, really fun at first actually. In fact if it came down to at least 2 people left who play this game, it would still be fun.
It's a survival game none the less, with more flaws than fixes, but it is a fun game. I have never played anything like it before nor will i probably find anything remotely close to it. It was fun spending those endless times grinding for loot or money, killing mutants, pvping other players, and helping other newbie players.
To the extent of the main thing in this games genre of SURVIVAL, i think the devs did a really good job at that. Everything that came after is debateable
To top it all off this game
final score tally 1-10 (1 lowest 10 highest ranking)
graphics-10 (wish i could run them though)
player experience-8 (it's a survival game not much to do other than survive)
multiplayer-2 (half hackers; half point and shoot)
the way the devs handled the game's problems-3 (thats being generous)
gameplay (including fixes, bugs, ect.)-2 1/2
overall score: 3/10 i might change the scores if the devs fix the glitches and bugs as well as other factors. This game had potential and still does but as long as the community is ignored and this game is viewed as another business transaction, it won't get any better.
thanks for reading i appreciate the time you took to read all of this, feel free to leave a comment below and HMU if you have any questions about the review
