Manly game for men. Challenging old school action platformer. Don't expect a cakewalk.

Features two different playthroughs with Path of the Crystal and Path of the Valkyrie. Game has 6 worlds and each world except the first one has 2 different versions. Path of the Crystal versions are normal/casual (by no means does this imply that those levels are easy) where you have unlimited lives, while Path of the Valkyrie ones are not necessarily harder in their design, just that the full playthrough on those is more hardcore as your lives are limited.

Old school controlls. Doesn't require a controller imo, only 2 buttons + arrows keys are involved and you can't really control the jump once commited.

A fun challenging game that requires you to sit down for a while and commit to beating a level, which is not often shown in most games nowadays. Definitely worth it if you want a challenging old style game that makes you feel like a viking badass

Ball crushingly hard but fair…. It’s not like dark souls where you can just die, in this game if you die it’s your fault.
I’ve never once got mad at this game, just myself for how incompetent I was.

Volgarr the Viking feels like you're playing a piano where the keys are sharp blades.

The songs are the levels. They are painful to learn but when you pull it off right it feels damn good.

whatever you do, dont decide to make a drinking game with ur friend the first time you ever play this game...

otherwise... this game is the best drinking game ever... take a shot/sip whenever you die... and whenever you die you gotta pass the controller on lol.... fun times...

in all seriousness, this game is a blast from the past and a reminder of how hard games used to be... if your bored playing the same old on the rails ez pz stuff you see nowadays, give volgarr a spin!

you finally get past the first level thinking your a boss... only to realize lvl 2 is 2 times harder... once u get to level 3... well then i guess you realize the game has just begun lol

I'll keep this simple. Watch the videos above. Did it look cool to you? Buy this game. It emulates perfectly the feeling of playing one of the old arcade games that were fun enough to eat all of your quarters. The only difference is, you have infinite quarters. My first sitting with this game is 6 hours. I did not intend to play that long, as there were another couple of games that I purchased awating my attention. Also, I can get easily burned out on these types of games, so that also speaks volumes. If this were that caliber of game, I would've given it only 45 minutes to an hour (15-20 minutes if it was a dissapointment) of my time before ending the session. I was just about to play this game right now, but I felt a motivation to type out this recomendation. Now I'm going to play it. Thanks for stopping by, and reading. Have a good one.

It's a very good game with decent graphic to be honest, it just matched with the price (I bought it with coupon) that gave.

As you can see the tags above on the store page, it says.... DIFFICULT, Yes, the game is pretty much difficult (imagine first time playing Contra game series) for the first time. I would say I can enjoy the game after you learned the mechanic well. But don't rage and expect 2 hit kill from the mobs that attacking you. ;)

Volgarr the viking is a very difficult game, sometimes frustating, but also awesome and rewarding when you accomplish things. I totally upvote it

I keep coming back to this. It's a blast. Highly recommend if you have a soft spot for side-view platformers of days long past.

You are a viking marauding toward certain death whilst laying waste to all in your path. Gameplay and graphics that hark back to classic Amiga platformers. Beating levels takes practise, skill, and determination. If that is not appealing, then this isn't for you.

This game reminds me of a few great games from a long time ago; mega man, castlevania, and demon's crest. This game can be quite challenging as it is simple. The game seems to be more of test of your memory rather than skill; although skill is definatly required...or should I say patience.

The game:
- controls well.
- looks quite nice for its style of game.
- requires little hard drive space.

I must admit, when I first played this game I didin't realize there was a sword attack without having to push down while using spear chuck attack. After say about 20 or so deaths I started to use the sword attack. After about 50 or so deaths i finally beat the first stage.I'd have to say patience, and perhaps a good night sleep definatly helped.

Isn't this 90% the same as the old arcade classic Rastan ? The maps, the sword, just about everything. Only difference is the graphics.

Odd control scheme, way too hard and it crashed to the desktop when I finally beat the first level with no saving... Cool idea, poor execution.

Volgarr is a great game. It is hard but not impossible you just have to think about what your doing rather than charge in and mash buttons. It's probably not for the casual player however it takes a some time and patience to get the hang of.

Very very very challenging and enjoyable. It drove me crazy sometimes and I wanted to throw my controller against the wall many many times. But I think this is good. Just buy and have fun (and a lot of anger).
