Crypt of the Necrodancer is a game that utilizes elements from both rouge-like games and rhythm games, and created something fantastic an interesting.

So let's break this down into three groupings
[Story, Soundtrack , Gameplay]

So the story revolves around you being the daughter of a, who I could assume to be famous, adventurer. Once your mother comes down with a sickness you overhear your parents talking about a massive treasure which nobody has been able to reclaim. Once you delve into the lair of the Necrodancer you immediately take fatal fall damage and become the demon's playtoy. Your heart is stolen and forced to beat to the rhythm of the music.

A simple story that anyone can understand, and one you can both spoil and withhold information without hurting anyone's understanding of the game's story.

The soundtrack is clearly this game's massive focus. With a unique soundtrack to fit every single level, you are more than likely to fall in love with the track. Coupled with the fact every level forces you to move to the beat, you are literally engaged into the soundtrack through motion and strategic planning. My only complain for this is that the music can be so hypnotic sometimes that I will eventually get killed from focusing on the music too much.

As described before, this is rhythm game and a roguelike game. First, let me define what a rouge-like game is.
-A roguelike game utilizes completely random level generation based on pre-set variables. You will never run into the same experience twice, excluding the end results being one of three bosses.
That being said, this game uses its music to its fullest advantage, by limiting your horizontal, vertical and combat movements to adhere to the beat of the song. Meaning slow paced compositions will result in a calmer level. Likewise, a heavier soundtrack will leave you will less time to react. Every enemy has preset AI and adheres to the movement rules as well. This means you can never truly blame the game for any "unfair" issues.

Overall this is a great game to casually play so long as you have the time to commit to all of the levels. On top of interesting design and themes of the levels, you get new characters as you play the game. While they are not necessary to complete the game, it gives you the option to change the playstyle. On top of this, you can implement your own music, at the cost of achievements.

I highly recommend this game.

The game has provided me just enough fun for me to recommend it.

The mix of rogue gameplay and rythm game amount to less than their sum IMO, but the game is really well executed with a fantastic soundtrack that continues to haunt me weeks after I finished the game.

enthralling game.
Even when I got all the items (which meant I was playing for "nothing" since I couldn't unlock new stuff for my hero), I managed to get a little further down each time before I got bored. It was a really enjoyable experience.
Shame I didn't unlock most of the achievements because I put my own music (Works pretty well with B&S 's Enter Sylvia Plath)
Highly recommended if you like dungeon crawler and rhythm games

Amazing game! Honestly, this has got to be one of my most favorite retro-style games I've ever played! Fun little storyline, random dungeons, and a fresh mix of basic mechanics with a good difficulty that will keep you playing for hours!

This game is beyond one of my favorite roguelikes. When you first start out it kinda is confusing on how to move. Basically you just move to the music. If you dont like that then you can play bard. Bard doesnt have to move based on the beats. But the downside is that the enemies will move after you. The story is fantastic. The game is well worth its price although the only downside i have had with the game is dying alot. You get these really good items and then you die and it just flops. It is a game that is worth being in your library. The graphics are pixelart but why does that matter? Unless you're a graphics fanatic then i guess it does matter. If you do not like rougelikes then i would not recommend it because you will die alot and lose items ALOT.The badeges and emotes and backgrounds look nice on this game. Anyways if you dont like then you can always refund it and get money back.

You will repeat this a lot.

It won't easily get boring, either.

Crypt of the NecroDancer is the most frustrating, infuriating, obscenely difficult game you will ever play.
And that's what makes it oh so greatly rewarding when you finally complete that zone you've been dying over and over again on.

If you've ever wanted to play an extremely challenging but hilariously fun fast-paced rhythm-based dungeon crawler with dancing skeletons and sick beats for each floor and boss, this is exactly the game for you.

Overall, 10/10 would accidentally bomb shopkeep again

I have a lot of good things I can say about this game.
Out of every game I played, I can say this one take's the cake for:
Most fair game. EVERY time I die, I can think "man, I know what I did wrong," as opposed to other games where you lose and feel cheated.
Best difficulty curve. Starting out, I couldn't tap keys to a beat, but I was able to work my way up to fast reactions and even double-speed (a certain character). No matter how long you play this game, you can ALWAYS get better and notice the improvement.
The music is FANTASTIC. Danny B's music has such strong composition. It really fits the game, the groove, and does a great job at letting the player 'feel the beat' of the game. The other soundtracks are also great. I'm not a big fan of EDM or Metal, but I still enjoy Jules and A-Rival. Girlfriend also has some great tracks, but I personally am not a fan of Virt.
There are so many unique things about this game. This is the first music-based dungeon crawler I've ever seen. The shopkeeper sings! The characters, voices, sounds, they make you feel so good to play. You can compete against other players for fastest times, or highest scores.

TL;DR: Buy this game even if you don't enjoy rougelikes

Hmmmmmm, where do I even begin with this kind of game? The concept behind this game made this almost an instabuy. A roguelike where the turns are locked to the beats? Yes please. I haven't seen a concept like this before, and I haven't heard about another one if it existed.

Unlike traditional roguelikes, there is no leveling system. You don't get "stronger" by defeating enemies or bosses. No, instead, you learn from them. Killed by a blue slime? Don't stand above it or below it. Out of 80+ hours of play, I have had zero unfair deaths. I could look at the replay and see exactly where and how I screwed up. You get better after every death.

The music in this game is fantastic. Seriously. I have (mostly) had nothing but Necrodancer tunes stuck in my head ever since I started playing. My only complaint is that Jules' soundtrack isn't the best for playing the character it is assigned to. I've had little problems importing music as well, but it isn't 100% perfect. Instead of manually tpping out beats, I just use a program that generates the file for me.

Make no mistake, this game is hard. It took me quite some time to clear the first character, and I am still working on the next two main ones. All zones mode is the main one for this game, and most of your character achievements will come from that mode. Play single zones until you're used to the game, then go for all zones. Do you think that being locked to the beat is too hard? Play as the bard. No beats and all the time in the world to make your decisions. Since you'll be dying a lot, it may or may not become repetitive. I haven't gotten bored in the amount of hours I put into it. This game is hard but replayable. Some characters are harder/more annoying than others. Experiment and see who you like best.

Like roguelikes? Get this. Like rhythm games? Get this. Want to be challenged? Get this. Want to get angry that you went to an endboss and died? Get. This.

I love old style game. I don't know why. I just love that retro old foggy feel to a game. I also love games that push me and challenge me. Almost all games today are designed to be beaten by the youngest of players. But this game really pushed me into my younger arcade gaming days. I love the layout, the feel and the vibe. The soundtrack litterally kicks butt! And it makes the gameplay more intense. Each level and character brings a new challenge and makes me want to push myself.
Also a little touch on the co-op. It's fun, and can make the already challenging atmosphere into a greater mountain to climb. So if your looking for a challenge as a gamer and a little homage to the old days then this is the right game for you!

This game is WAY too addicting, and I absolutely love it! The kick-♥♥♥ soundtrack combined with the gameplay makes this a must-have title for rhythm gamers out there! The dungeons are procedurally- generated, eliminating repetitiveness, and the graphics pay great homage to the retro era.

My verdict?

It's a bit on the unforgiving side, and the multiplayer isn't really my thing, but I still can't get the soundtrack out of my head! Get this game, and you'll become a slave to those beats and love every second of it!
