What the developers have to say:

“So you've elected to support development of Viscera Cleanup Detail by getting the Early Access build, great! There are a few things to keep in mind however, as we continue development, fix bugs, add content and polish it all up.
  • It's still in development, so it has issues, especially regarding network.
  • You might want to think twice about buying this now if you're looking for a polished product. However, if you want to support us and provide feedback for the game's development, we'd be super grateful!
  • The price will increase as it gets closer to the finished game.
  • Everything is subject to change; your favourite feature could be eradicated.

As we proceed with development, the major improvements you will see will be relating to new and improved maps, bug fixes and polish. New content will primarily be focused on creating interesting environments for our players to experience.

And on a final note, mod support will be coming very soon! So you'll be able to craft your own space-station massacres; hooray!”

Update v0.42 live!

Hey hey!

So updates are a bit slower as we work on large stuff behind the scenes. Some of that includes the new Robot Facility map, a revamp/recreation of another map or two, Mac testing and some other features on the roadmap (which I should publish again since it was updated!).

This week, we've got a new system in for logging the events of the disasters that occur, as a way for interested players to earn bonus points when punching out.

I'll go into that after the changelog:

  • Made the saw in Evil Science capable of colliding with objects.
  • Added PIDs[Personal Identification Devices] to Athena's Wrath.
  • Added PIDs to Evil Science.
  • Added PIDs to Unearthly Excavation.
  • Added PIDs to Cryogenesis.
  • Once again allowed the shovel to trigger mining explosives.
  • Added a complex Punchout Report Forms system for alowing players to gain bonus points and potentially get Employee of the Month.
  • Fixed brooms and shovels counting as welding lasers in the punchout system. [No longer cause the burnt property note]

Here is what BlackEagle has to say about the new Report Forms system:
In this update, we've implemented the Punchout Report Forms; a series of forms you can fill out for the company's official records.
The main one is a general run down of the various items and particulars of the incident you worked on.
This you fill in based on knowledge you gather by playing the level and studying the various horrors you witness.
The second part is an individual write-up of each deceased employee you find in the level.
These are identified by their Personal Identification Devices [P.I.Ds]. You pick them up and then deliver them to the punchout machine.
Once delivered, you fill in their required info.

The more accurate and attentive you are with the forms, the more bonus points you get in the hunt for that illusive Employee of the Month award!
It should be noted that failure to fill in the forms is NOT punished...but some will look on you with diminished respect.

So there you go! If you want to earn even more bonus points, this'll really set your OCD nerves aflame! I will repeat this though; you DO NOT have to fill in the report forms on the punchout, there is no punishment for not filling them out.

Let us know what you think! We should have more news and updates full of good stuff as we head to the finish line :)

V0.41 Update live!

Hey hey!

This weeks update is all about fixes and multiplayer. We've added a few things to help server admins manage things (kicking, name tags, etc).

  • Fixed limb stuck under door in Section 8.
  • Fixed the horrible collision on some of the older and rustier environment meshes, like the ones in Rust Station East.
  • Fixed the Sick-Bay OR-light material in Evil Science not flickering along with the light.
  • Fixed lifts not playing move-looping sound on clients.

  • Prevented any one person, except the host from punching out of a level prematurely in multiplayer. A consensus is now required.
  • Added a "Lock Punchout Machine" setting to allow only the host to punchout.
  • Fixed welder having trouble with hitting some bullet holes.
  • Optimized notes.
  • Added "ShowNameTags" console command to allows server hosts to see who's who.
  • Fixed item props on the back of janitors from staying around after being eaten by sand-traps.

  • Fixed level creators not being able to overide the use of the official office level save data when creating their own office level.(Added "PunchoutOfficeSaveFile" variable to the MapInfo)
  • Fixed workshop levels unlocking achievements for official levels.
  • Set automatic downloading of workshop subscriptions to be ON by default. Begins downloads as soon as game is running. May still cause crashing on some systems.

As mentioned, updates will be a bit slower from here on as we work on large content bits and pieces for the upcoming Robot map.

Cheers for today!

“You know what I really love about violence? Dealing with the consequences! That’s why I’m so excited to see that Viscera Cleanup Detail, the space station janitor simulation, is now available on Steam Early Access.”

“By setting its mundane stall in the days after events that would be taken oh-so-seriously in another game, Viscera Cleanup Detail manages to be morbidly hilarious without ever telling a single joke.”

About This Game

Disaster! An alien invasion and subsequent infestation have decimated this facility. Many lives were lost, the facility was ruined and the aliens were unstoppable. All hope was lost until one survivor found the courage to fight back and put the aliens in their place!
It was a long and horrific battle as the survivor duelled with all manner of terrifying life-forms and alien mutations, but our hero won out in the end and destroyed the alien menace! Humanity was saved!

Unfortunately, the alien infestation and the heroic efforts of the courageous survivors have left rather a mess throughout the facility. As the janitor, it is your duty to get this place cleaned up.
So grab your mop and roll up your sleeves, this is gonna be one messy job.
Today, you're on Viscera Cleanup Detail!

Key Features

  • Janitorial Simulation - Step into the boots of a space-station sanitation technician and deal with the horrific aftermath of a sci-fi horror event. Blood, viscera, spent cartridges, worker bodies and other messes litter the facilities.
  • Clean - It's your job to clean up the mess, so clean it up you shall! Use your trusty mop, gloves, dispenser machines, plasma laser and sniffer tool to help you get all that blood out of the floor and off the ceiling! You can even try and punch-out if you think you've done your job.
  • Sandbox Gameplay - Don't want to clean? Just want to make more of a mess and play around with the physics? Go ahead! You can save your game as well; that's kind of us!
  • Multiplayer - Note: MP is still being worked out and may have issues still.
You can even enlist some friends/coworkers to come and help you clean up (or make even more mess).

Buying Viscera Cleanup Detail also gets you our spin-off titles, 'VCD: Shadow Warrior' and 'Santa's Rampage' free!

It's hard to describe what makes this game fun. For one thing, it's relaxing, there's no time constraints, no ammo counting, nothing like that. Just you and your mop. The small bits of satisfaction you get from putting things in order.

First time when I've seen this game I'm not think much interesting. But my friend forced me to buy this game. There was 25% discount so, I bought this game.
And I was surprised when I had played to this game more fun what I expected.

I recommend this game to those who interesting the cooperative games.

Good thing:
-Easy achievements.
-Very simple control.
-If you have good friends who have this game, play with those for more more fun. :D

Bad thing:
-Early access (currently) so, there are more bugs/glitches.
-With alone not too fun.

What I like:
+it's comfy
+Kleptomania simulator

What I don't like:
-It's really same-y all throughout the maps, even the documents- even though this is meant to parody generic-doom/aliens-clone-games.
-doesn't feed your inner kleptomaniac as much as it should, other than documents you'll read once and immediately not give two craps about, once you've collected your free soda/beer stash, a lightning gun, a virus canister, your assortment of surgical tools and the artifact, you pretty much got eveything.
-why in the larger maps must everything be on every other corner of the map??! that crap isn't just obnoxious, it's a time waster.

What I wish this game had:
=more non-fleshy stuff to collect and put on my janitorial desk.
=killer robots
=objects that you can do stuff with.

Vicera Cleanup detail is easily one of the most mind numbingly repettative games ive ever plays, but it is also one of the most enjoyable, great looking, and different games I have ever played. To start off like all reviews I want to remind everyone this is still considered to be an early access game, so there is still more to be added as well as more to be changed, so anything I say about the game is subject to change.

Viscera cleanup is not exactly what most people likely would consider playing at first glance, however if you start to look deeper and actually give it a try, you will find yourself obsesevly cleaning every drop of blood off every map for hours at a time just because it feels that rewarding after doing so much work and getting praised for it.

The game gets even better when you play with friends and fool around on the maps, finding all the sercret areas, and cleaning them up as well, or even making a mess of the place after one of your friends is done cleaning it up just to be annoying :P.

Not only is the gameplay surprisingly addictive and fun, but the visuals are fantastic, not to say it has the most amazing effects out there, were not talking about explosions and lazers or anything, but just the sheer ammount of junk, and blood and bullet holes around the map make it really feel like there was a huge fight there not to long ago. I will say they tend to repaste textures pretty often which can make some walls and other features pretty dull to look at, but in the end it tends to help when looking for that one stray bullet hole you just cant seem to find.

Now like all games there are still flaws, and despite it being in beta I still feel it necessary to point them out. Only just recently was there a server browser added, and on top of this due to the long time without it, it is unfortunalty grossly under used. There are alot of features still missing in the game from what I have been reading, and still alot of bugs to work through like a spot of blood being cleaned up but it not being counted as clean. stray bullets clipping through walls, and of course physics engine issues with various objects and the players interactions with them.

Those small issues tend to go overlooked however with just how much fun there is to have in the game, in fact a body part falling from the bottom of trash can tends to end up being funny and enjoyable more often then annoying and tedious.

So if you like the tediousness of cleaning up after someone else, and want to just have a fun time killer to hop on once and a wile, I highly recommend Viscera Cleanup, you may not be running around with guns, but a mop is so much more rewarding and immersive.

I played this for the first time last night with a friend. We had absolutely no idea what we were doing, we were getting frustrated with accidentally making a mess where we just cleaned, we wanted to kill each other for leaving bloody footprints everwhere... And to top it all off, the fact that he's Canadian and I'm Australian made the lag so unbearable, we could hardly transport any crates full of rubbish to the incinerator without the contents flying everywhere, or the contents/crate itself literally throwing us into the walls and ceiling and destroying everything else (though admittedly, that last part is somewhat expected given the countries).

We also had absolutely no idea what needed to go and what didn't, we had no idea what the big lazer was for, or how either mode of the radar thingy worked. By the time we finished with the level we were on 3 hours later, the reviews we got were terrible and they made us feel rage.

Yet despite all of that... we can both honestly say that it is the most hilarious and fun experience we've had in a while. All we could think was "We NEED to get more friends in on this!".
Total anarchy is what it was. It was brilliant. When you do finally figure out how everything works, you feel amazing and accomplished. Honestly, the only thing that I can say would improve the game is one minor control change, but once you get used to everything, it's really not that bad.

You can burn so many hours on this game. The possibilities via the Steam Workshop are almost limitless as long as there's gory games out there. We're going to play the hell out of what's currently here, but we most certainly look forward to the final product.

This is the weirdest simulation game I've ever played. It's very addictive and very fun to play with others. I didn't realize when I orignally bought this game that it was early access. I love it, it is kind of glitchy but it kind of adds to the charm of the game. There are little things in the game that will make you angry as ♥♥♥♥. But you will find yourself trying to clean every nick and cranny of the place your cleaning until it becomes obsessive. Even though my room is a mess and I don't like cleaning in real life, this game is addictive as hell.

You know.... I should have wrote a review for this 10000000000000000000000000000000 years ago.

Here it goes.

Your a janitor who works on space stations, remote locations, and other futuristic places. Your there to cleanup all that ♥♥♥♥ from everyone dieing in terrible events. Alien infestation, a evil artifact, mutants, and a bunch of evil events BEFORE you even got there. So you walk in after the horrible battle/murderfest and clean it up. You burn the bodies, remove the scorch marks, burn the bullet casings, stack the boxes that fell over, file reports on everything you saw, work togheter in multiplayer, and more shiz.

There is a functional lift now to get blood on the ceilings, dynamite, shovels, brooms, mops, some crazy disintegration gun that burns everything, and your trusty sniffer tool to find blood/junk.

Would not recomend if your not a badass who can handle being a janitor of this scale.....

Seriously..... this game is great!

You think your parents are disappointed when you waste your life playing video games now? Just wait until you see how disappointed they are when you waste your life playing a video game that simulates being a janitor, while sitting in a messy room in real life. Soul crushing disappointment...

Also, this game is obsessive compulsive crack. It's challenging if you approach it as a puzzle game and goofy fun if you approach it as a physics simulator. A lot of credit should given to the developer for the attention to detail they put into creating messes that look real and tell a story.

I haven't tried coop yet, but I'm guessing there's a lot of fun to be had there.

Did you play DOOM when it was released in the 90s? What about the original Half-Life or Unreal? Did you ever wonder who the heck's gonna clean up after these heroes?

The answer has finally been provided by the developers of VCD, and the answer --- is you.

There is no story. There is you. There is a mop. There is a bucket of water. You have no idea who is responsible for the carnage; you only know it's your task to clean up after it.

For such a strange idea for a game, the developers have really outdone themselves in my opinion. They have taken an idea that likely only tugs at the corner of the minds of .01% of the total FPS-gaming population and made a game out of it. They've made a game that seems incredibly boring actually fun.

As a Janitor for the Viscera Cleanup Detail company, each facility you visit must be painstakingly mopped; all the trash must be picked up; and all the body parts must be incinerated. How you complete this task is up to you, but that facility had better be spotless when your supervisors arrive, or you risk losing your job (and that's actually an Achievement).

After completing a facility, you return to your "office," and can read reports on your progress. These reports vary from employee commendations to tongue-in-cheek company newsletters, and really add to the experience. You are also able to take "trophies" with you should you so choose by placing them in the blue trunk that you take with you to each job.

People who don't enjoy ironic humor, or never played an FPS, should stay well away. But if you love watching the gibs fly on any contemporary FPS game; or even enjoyed the pixelated trips down Memory Lane of DOOM or Duke Nukem 3D; or even the bump-mapped polygons of Unreal and Half-Life, this is a must-have in your collection. You already blew the place to smithereens; didn't you mom teach you pick up after yourself?

This game is a news flash for me, it just screams "HEY You remember those days back in the 90's of running around a 3d map shooting 2d sprites of nazi's, cults, Zombies, Demons and aliens? Well, time to clean your f**king mess you ♥♥♥♥♥!" And just slaps me in the face with well designs maps, a mop in my hands, and a little sniffer device.

This game is like your mother. Endearing, loving but down right damn unforgiving. You spilled a bucket? "TOUGH NIPPLES Clean it up and get another bucket!" The bin machine just dumped a few giblets down and stained the flooring with blood? "SUCK IT UP AND KEEP CLEANING! Not my fault the machine just trolled you!" A gib just goes haywire and the floor absorbs said gib and you cant get it to burn it? "Restart the bloody map and start all over!" <---(Fix this glitch please TwT) But at the end of the day, You can't hate it, Cause it is unique and feels nice to clean a map 100% and get a promotion from your advisor!

But seriously fix that glitch...

10/10 Would spill another blood filled bucket.

#1 - This game preys on people with OCD.

#2 - I didn't know I could jam 1.5 bodies into a bio hazard box, maybe more if they're in smaller chunks.

#3 - I now know what my mother went through when cleaning up our house while I was growing up.

#4 - This must be what experienced serial killers have to go through on a regular basis in order to get rid of evidence.

#5 - Over stuffed a bio hazard box with gibs, tried to take it to the incinerator but hit a wall, knocked almost everything out, fell on the floor, splattered blood and guts everywhere. Went to clean I up with my mop but it was dirty so I only smeared it around and made it worse. Went to go find my bucket only to realize I left a trail of bloody footprints down the hall and gave me three times more work to do.

5/5 - would burn body bags again.
