What the developers have to say:

“So you've elected to support development of Viscera Cleanup Detail by getting the Early Access build, great! There are a few things to keep in mind however, as we continue development, fix bugs, add content and polish it all up.
  • It's still in development, so it has issues, especially regarding network.
  • You might want to think twice about buying this now if you're looking for a polished product. However, if you want to support us and provide feedback for the game's development, we'd be super grateful!
  • The price will increase as it gets closer to the finished game.
  • Everything is subject to change; your favourite feature could be eradicated.

As we proceed with development, the major improvements you will see will be relating to new and improved maps, bug fixes and polish. New content will primarily be focused on creating interesting environments for our players to experience.

And on a final note, mod support will be coming very soon! So you'll be able to craft your own space-station massacres; hooray!”

July 12th, 2014

Greetings, custodians from galaxies afar!

We've been hammering away at this new one for a while, but it's finally here: Unearthly Excavation!

Primary to this update is the extensive new dig-site map. Along with that comes new mechanics and problems for our sanitation teams to rectify. Changelog below:

  • Fixed pickup highlighting on bucket water surface
  • Fixed pickup highlighting when not using hands
  • Turned the 'GRAPHICS TO WASTE' knob down from 11 to 3 on the incinerator fire effects
  • Also optimized the fire effect for burning objects
  • Added extra fire effects for open incinerator doors
  • Moved non-common classes and references to sub-package to prepare for mod support
  • Added new Dig-Site map
  • Added the Sandtrap actor
  • Added new tool: The Shovel
  • Added new sand mechanics
  • Spare tools now show on back of janitor
  • Implemented janitor gibs
  • Increased mop and bucket saturation limits (yay!)
  • Decreased bucket and bin machine jam rates (yay!)
  • Movable dig site light actors
  • New crates
  • Bloody worker body textures
  • Removed slippery areas from Evil Science...for now.
  • Fixed med-pack lids behaving oddly after loading.
  • Improved Trophy system to store anything you personally put in there.
  • Improved janitor trunk to carry over skeletal viscera properly.
  • Removed unused 'Use' Key from input bindings.
  • Improved punchout system to punish you more accurately. (Doesn't apply to old saves)
  • Implemented some extra optional/bonus janitorial tasks [Stacking Areas]
  • Fixed fires causing scorch marks underwater.

And here are a few shots of the new map:

We're hoping our next update (which will be quicker), will include Mac and mod support! Hooray!

Stay frosty, cleaners.. Until next time!

Update v0.28 live!

June 6th, 2014

Hi everyone!

Firstly, apologies about the infrequency of updates over the last couple weeks; we've been hammering away on new content that won't be ready for a while yet. Alas! But fear not, it'll be quite something when it arrives ;)

For now though, we've got together a small update with some technical and gameplay fixes/improvements.

Changelog:

  • Indicated that you report to a different company while working on Cryogenesis
  • Added the Plasma Welder to Cryogenesis (No Bullet Holes yet)
  • Option for 'Pickup Highlighting' (this was actually in v0.271)
  • Added Janitor Trunk to game to be used for... uh, reasons
  • Added new punchout newspaper types, with a bunch of new instances between them
  • Added unique photos to 8 of the newspaper articles that were using duplicates
  • Added a prestigeous 'Employee of the Month' picture
  • Changed punchout system to be better at gauging cleanup success
  • Added possible hate mail printouts to punchout system
  • Added punchout printouts for sick nasty mess for shameful janitors
  • Fixed restored med-packs not saving properly...again
  • Removed 'View Leaning' effect while 'View Bob' is off
  • Added 'Push To Talk' functionality
  • Fixed certain viscera getting stuck after loading, skeletal information is now saved

And that's that for this week! We've got cool shit coming up, so stay tuned! Mod support, a funky new map with completely new environment and gameplay aspects and more good stuff.

Cheers ya'll!

Reviews

“You know what I really love about violence? Dealing with the consequences! That’s why I’m so excited to see that Viscera Cleanup Detail, the space station janitor simulation, is now available on Steam Early Access.”
PCGamer

“By setting its mundane stall in the days after events that would be taken oh-so-seriously in another game, Viscera Cleanup Detail manages to be morbidly hilarious without ever telling a single joke.”
EuroGamer

About the Game

Disaster! An alien invasion and subsequent infestation have decimated this facility. Many lives were lost, the facility was ruined and the aliens were unstoppable. All hope was lost until one survivor found the courage to fight back and put the aliens in their place!
It was a long and horrific battle as the survivor duelled with all manner of terrifying life-forms and alien mutations, but our hero won out in the end and destroyed the alien menace! Humanity was saved!

Unfortunately, the alien infestation and the heroic efforts of the courageous survivors have left rather a mess throughout the facility. As the janitor, it is your duty to get this place cleaned up.
So grab your mop and roll up your sleeves, this is gonna be one messy job.
Today, you're on Viscera Cleanup Detail!

Key Features

  • Janitorial Simulation - Step into the boots of a space-station sanitation technician and deal with the horrific aftermath of a sci-fi horror event. Blood, viscera, spent cartridges, worker bodies and other messes litter the facilities.
  • Clean - It's your job to clean up the mess, so clean it up you shall! Use your trusty mop, gloves, dispenser machines, plasma laser and sniffer tool to help you get all that blood out of the floor and off the ceiling! You can even try and punch-out if you think you've done your job.
  • Sandbox Gameplay - Don't want to clean? Just want to make more of a mess and play around with the physics? Go ahead! You can save your game as well; that's kind of us!
  • Multiplayer - Note: MP is still being worked out and may have issues still.
You can even enlist some friends/coworkers to come and help you clean up (or make even more mess).

Important:

Buying Viscera Cleanup Detail also gets you our spin-off titles, 'VCD: Shadow Warrior' and 'Santa's Rampage' free! And if you already own Santa's Rampage on Steam, you get a discount on this game!

This is almost inevitably going to be the new youtube craze (ie: Surgeon Simulator, Slender etc) so before the storm of Pewdiepie and TobyGame hits the shelves, I just want to say that I absolutely freaking love this game. I could sarcastically just say "GOTY" and move on, but I feel like that would undermine how much fun this game actually is. When I saw people play Gmod or Surgeon Sim, I always used to wonder how some wobbly mechanics can cause such reactions. And then before I knew it, that game had me on the floor, literally crying and unable to breath with laughter. This game kicks ♥♥♥.

PS: Someone please do a speedrun of this game. PLEASE.

EDIT: Thanks 'Conditional Love' for pointing out that I misspelled "surgeon"

This is my space mop.

There are many like it.

But this one is mine.

Without my space mop I am useless.

Without me, my space mop is usless.

I shall take my space mop into the worst places imaginable.

With proper training and care we can make it out alive, with no injuries or complaints.

If not, the union has my back...
