In Viscera Cleanup Detail, you step into the boots of a space-station janitor tasked with cleaning up after various horrific sci-fi horror events. Instead of machineguns and plasma-rifles, your tools are a mop and bucket. That hero left a mess, and it's up to you to deal with the aftermath.

February 15

Update V1.06 live!

Hey hey!

We live again! Back from our break from the grind-stone, and now returning to the fray. Stuff was a little slow this month because it's February; tax/biz/accounting month.. But that's getting done so we can continue dev work.

We're working on the merge of the Shadow Warrior spinoff, a new map and more fixes and similar for coming updates. Hopefully those won't take too long. Anyway, here are the fixes for v1.06!

  • Fixed the cave tunnel in Frostbite causing objects to glitch out of existence.
  • Fixed obstructed doors sometimes jamming in Evil Science, Caduceus and Cryogenesis.
  • Fixed Frostbite report forms expecting the "estimated dead alien entities" counter to be 0.

  • Fixed elusive item duplication bug upon returning to the office.
  • Improved the way punchout report forms calculate the bonus for "estimate counters".
  • Fixed "estimated dead alien entities" counter on the punchout report form being able to drastically massacre your score if high numbers are entered.
  • Fixed Incinerator being bloodied by dirty mops.
  • Fixed issue causing you to be awarded the "Clean Freak" achievement for visiting the office first time from another level.

  • Added link to Viscera Cleanup Detail Wiki on Main Menu.

Not exactly sure when the next update will be, because the merge will probably take a bit of time. However, there may be other smaller updates before then, such as the new map and some fixes.

We'll be starting to move onto other projects as we go through the year as well. Prototypes to make, others to flesh out, etc.

Enjoy, everyone!

“You know what I really love about violence? Dealing with the consequences! That’s why I’m so excited to see that Viscera Cleanup Detail, the space station janitor simulation, is now available on Steam Early Access.”

“By setting its mundane stall in the days after events that would be taken oh-so-seriously in another game, Viscera Cleanup Detail manages to be morbidly hilarious without ever telling a single joke.”

About This Game

Disaster! An alien invasion and subsequent infestation have decimated this facility. Many lives were lost, the facility was ruined and the aliens were unstoppable. All hope was lost until one survivor found the courage to fight back and put the aliens in their place!
It was a long and horrific battle as the survivor dueled with all manner of terrifying life-forms and alien mutations, but our hero won out in the end and destroyed the alien menace! Humanity was saved!

Unfortunately, the alien infestation and the heroic efforts of the courageous survivors have left rather a mess throughout the facility. As the janitor, it is your duty to get this place cleaned up.
So grab your mop and roll up your sleeves, this is gonna be one messy job.
Today, you're on Viscera Cleanup Detail!

Key Features

  • Janitorial Simulation - Step into the boots of a space-station sanitation technician and deal with the horrific aftermath of a sci-fi horror event. Blood, viscera, spent cartridges, worker bodies and other messes litter the facilities.
  • Clean - It's your job to clean up the mess, so clean it up you shall! Use your trusty mop, gloves, dispenser machines, plasma laser and sniffer tool to help you get all that blood out of the floor and off the ceiling! You can even try and punch-out if you think you've done your job.
  • Sandbox Gameplay - Don't want to clean? Just want to make more of a mess and play around with the physics? Go ahead! You can save your game as well; that's kind of us!
  • Multiplayer - You can even enlist some friends/coworkers to come and help you clean up (or make even more mess). Split-screen co-op is available too!

Buying Viscera Cleanup Detail also gets you our spin-off titles, 'VCD: Shadow Warrior' and 'Santa's Rampage' free!
Santa's Rampage comes included in the main game download AND as a standalone copy you can use to connect with others who only own Santa's Rampage.

This is the game to buy for your kids if they don't want to do their studies. Make them play for 5+ hours and tell them that this is their LIFE if they don't hit the books DAMN RIGHT NOW!

But in all seriousness, yes, that's what you play here. A janitor. Have you ever wondered what happens after you blasted through a level in your favorite shooter and you're not in Germany, i.e. the corpses, gore, blood, guts and other bodyparts don't simply vanish before they hit the floor? Well, this is it. The game for after the game. The alien invasion is over, our hero won and now it's time to clean up the mess.

This is where you come in.

Your job is to clean up the mess. To collect all those body parts and mop up the blood and gore. And as odd as it sounds, yes, that's actually fun. OCD of course helps, but even if you're not obsessed with total cleanliness, there is something ultimately satisfying to start out with a bloody mess and end up with a sparkling clean place.

It is a very Zen game, though. There is nothing that would put pressure on you except your goal of cleaning it faster this time around (which usually only leads to you spilling that bloody bucket or strewing the body parts all over the place because you wanted to run with a heavy bucket), and you will spend quite a bit of time hunting down that last body part hiding behind a panel or that last speck of alien blood that you mistook for the pattern of the wall paint. Picking up bullet casings also is very ... Zen.

It's also not a good idea to play this game alone in a dark room. It's quite haunting. Even though there are no living creatures but you (and your potential partners in a cleanup crew), but you are, after all, cleaning up an area where you collect bodies. Or parts thereof.

Lots of fun to me, but, well, as I said: OCD might make me biased.

viscera cleanup detail, one of the hardest, most revolutionary, and most mechanically challenging games Ive ever played. This game takes you through a roller coaster of emotions with the story, some parts on the edge of your seat wondering what happens next, the next part you are curled up with a bucket of ice cream and Kleenex. This game has changed my life and the way i see video games. 10/10

The best game i will ever play is this. Not just it is exteremly fun it also teaches the role of a person that cleans up dead bodies. You get to play as a janitor with a unusual job of cleaning the aftermath of some of the most recent discoveries, Aliens, tentacles that belong to a mestorious monster underneath our feet? Or it could be the brand new robots take a mind of thier own and start a murdrerious killing spree. And did i mention that they have more than this game like Viscera Cleanup Detail: Santas Rampage Viscera Vleanup Detail: Shadow Warrior and a DLC from the original The House Of Horrors which is a Halloween map. Speaking of DLC they have free soundtracks of music waiting to enjoy feeding your ears some of the most music that are also pretty catchy. See what you discover by cleaning in the most game changer of all time. Viscera Cleanup Detail (Also known as VCD).

This is the game for everyone who felt guilty making such a mess in DOOM or Dead Space. For the record, you should feel guilty! You got crimson guts all over everything, you animal. The good news is that you have a chace to unburden yourself of that terrible guilt.

VCD is a game best played while listening to a podcast (or just the radio if you're into that). It plays off an instinctive need to clean and appeals to people looking to manage their obsessive compulsive disorder where applicable. If you're not sure if this experience will appeal to you, just watch a let's play. You should be able to tell fairly easily. This is a VERY slow-paced game with no violence to speak of.

It's high-quality, pretty, and runs quite smoothly. Multiplayer isn't the main focus, but it works fairly well.

This game is good, but I don't reccomend it if you get bothered by gore.

Also, who else thinks this game should be VR-compatible?

I LOVE the idea of this game...
Sadly the gameplay is too repetitive.
I loved it when I saw the laser gun and realized I could turn corpses into cauterized pieces that didn't bleed, or turn materials into piles of molten metal and plastic.
I though I would soon find more creative tools like that, or new tipes of mess to clean or something...
But nope. That's all.
You clean muck, blood and a black substance than can be created by burning things with the laser or... Be there.
That's it... All the time... And you can't keep the gun. You have to drop it to get anything else.
Also, movement is strange and dificult. It´s like if you had a massive body but you couldn't see it. So you'll spill buckets a lot or get stuck in places that don't appear to be tight.
I like that there seems to be something like a weight system. If you load a disposable bin too much you have to look up to lift it. Problem is the that when you carry it and look up... You can't see anything.
This game is fun... For an hour or two. Can't see myself playing it more than that.

Watching all the bloody mess and gore turn into a sparkling clean level is extremely satisfying. Picking up bullet casings is so zen.

Make sure to play with friends, though. I can't really see myself playing this game alone.

Good game for wasting time and laughing at some of the weird ways people died. It's super tedious, though. Takes forever if you don't have anyone with you.

Love the game. You just gotta love it. Most first person games usually end up having lots of guns and such, but this game takes on a creative idea. Being a janitor may seem lame, especially the fact the entire game is just like being a janitor, but it's quite addicting. It's because if you actually try to finish a mission, it becomes frustrating as hell. There's buckets to trip over that causes a mess I usually end up raging and quitting whenever I stack the buckets up and later on accidentally knocking them all over. Bloody mess, I'll tell you., footprints to wash that you keep making, ashes to scrub off that you cause over and over If you know one of the tools that looks like a lazer gun, you'll know what I mean..., everything is frustrating yet so addictive. I'd recommend this to Youtubers and people who love ironic challenges.
