In Viscera Cleanup Detail, you step into the boots of a space-station janitor tasked with cleaning up after various horrific sci-fi horror events. Instead of machineguns and plasma-rifles, your tools are a mop and bucket. That hero left a mess, and it's up to you to deal with the aftermath.

What the developers have to say:

“So you've elected to support development of Viscera Cleanup Detail by getting the Early Access build, great! There are a few things to keep in mind however, as we continue development, fix bugs, add content and polish it all up.
  • It's still in development, so it has issues, especially regarding network.
  • You might want to think twice about buying this now if you're looking for a polished product. However, if you want to support us and provide feedback for the game's development, we'd be super grateful!
  • The price will increase as it gets closer to the finished game.
  • Everything is subject to change; your favourite feature could be eradicated.

As we proceed with development, the major improvements you will see will be relating to new and improved maps, bug fixes and polish. New content will primarily be focused on creating interesting environments for our players to experience.

And on a final note, mod support will be coming very soon! So you'll be able to craft your own space-station massacres; hooray!”

Update v0.54: Overgrowth

Hey hey!

With this weeks update, comes the final level, 'Overgrowth'!

It's a primarily outdoor, industrial jungle environment. Larger in size than other small/medium maps, but less mess overall.

Anyway, to the changelog!

  • Added "Overgrowth" level! [The Jungle]
  • Added reverb sound processing to Athena's Wrath, Paintenance Tunnels, Waste Disposal and Revolutionary Robotics. [Improves creepy atmosphere]
  • Blocked off the area under the Revolutionary Robotics boardroom table, making it impossible for careless janitors to lose their dignity under there.

  • Fixed Security Cameras causing problems for players if they die while viewing through one of them.
  • Fixed level completion progress tracker only recording speedruns and not normal cleanups. Oops!
  • Increased the maximum FoV from 120 to a whopping 160. Prepare for some serious beetle eyed action!
  • Goo Jar mess now glows in the dark.

  • You can now use the Enter key on punchout report boxes to make a new line. How nice of it.
  • Added "Shadow Draw Distance" setting to options menu to adjust the distance at which object shadows are drawn.
  • Added "Draw Object Shadows For" setting to options menu to decide which physics objects will cast shadows.
  • Added "Complex Object Lighting" setting to options menu to turn on detailed lighting for physics objects, replacing the cheap On/Off method.

  • Improved the lighting and shadows of physics objects, making many objects look much better than before. Only if you adjust the new shadow and lighting settings above.

  • Added Kismet action for manipulating debris actors.
  • Added Kismet action for teleporting debris actors.
  • Added Kismet event for when the world data is loaded or saved.
  • Added Kismet action to get the Pawn from an input Controller, for easy casting.
  • Made it possible to pose dead bodies by using custom animations.

And with that, we're nearly content complete! More fixes and other improvements here and there to make, but we're getting there :) I will mostly be moving onto other things now (as the main content guy), but will cobble together what assets are required should the need arise.

Anyway! Check out the map, and let us know what you think. I'm a bit wary that it might be kinda slow on older hardware, what with all the foliage and stuff, but we shall see :\

Have fun everyone!

“You know what I really love about violence? Dealing with the consequences! That’s why I’m so excited to see that Viscera Cleanup Detail, the space station janitor simulation, is now available on Steam Early Access.”

“By setting its mundane stall in the days after events that would be taken oh-so-seriously in another game, Viscera Cleanup Detail manages to be morbidly hilarious without ever telling a single joke.”

About This Game

Disaster! An alien invasion and subsequent infestation have decimated this facility. Many lives were lost, the facility was ruined and the aliens were unstoppable. All hope was lost until one survivor found the courage to fight back and put the aliens in their place!
It was a long and horrific battle as the survivor duelled with all manner of terrifying life-forms and alien mutations, but our hero won out in the end and destroyed the alien menace! Humanity was saved!

Unfortunately, the alien infestation and the heroic efforts of the courageous survivors have left rather a mess throughout the facility. As the janitor, it is your duty to get this place cleaned up.
So grab your mop and roll up your sleeves, this is gonna be one messy job.
Today, you're on Viscera Cleanup Detail!

Key Features

  • Janitorial Simulation - Step into the boots of a space-station sanitation technician and deal with the horrific aftermath of a sci-fi horror event. Blood, viscera, spent cartridges, worker bodies and other messes litter the facilities.
  • Clean - It's your job to clean up the mess, so clean it up you shall! Use your trusty mop, gloves, dispenser machines, plasma laser and sniffer tool to help you get all that blood out of the floor and off the ceiling! You can even try and punch-out if you think you've done your job.
  • Sandbox Gameplay - Don't want to clean? Just want to make more of a mess and play around with the physics? Go ahead! You can save your game as well; that's kind of us!
  • Multiplayer - Note: MP is still being worked out and may have issues still.
You can even enlist some friends/coworkers to come and help you clean up (or make even more mess).

Buying Viscera Cleanup Detail also gets you our spin-off titles, 'VCD: Shadow Warrior' and 'Santa's Rampage' free!

I can't sugar-coat this and say that this is a wonderfully enthralling game, but it is undoubtedly addicting. It's just as it appears, you spend hours cleaning messes. But there is this sense of accomplishment whenever you one of the many atmospheric levels and retire to your janitorial office.

Is your room a mess right now? Have you been thinking, "Man, I need to clean this up?" Then this is the ultimate procrasinator for you.

The obsessive-compulsive be warned, this is a game that will finally end the horror of opening and closing the fridge door 7 times in a row, but never ease the time commitment. Why? Because you'll develope a new tick: Cleaning up video game slaughter using only a handful of janitor's tools. Imagine cleaning the corridors of a DOOM game days after the hero has left? Imagine cleaning a museums of artifacts held by an evil private collector after a fatal gang shooting?

The player enters a game with a mop, bucket, trash can, and incinerator for body parts and other subversive materials. If the player is careful, all can be cleaned up fairly quickly. If the player is not careful, he could create his own mess.

Pro-Tip: don't spill buckets of blood and don't drop body parts. Blood gets into carpets.

There is something very satisfying about this game. It appeals to the sense of accomplishment. We all feel down now and then, and this game hits on that nerve. We're offered the afrtermath of a slaughter and need to clean it up. And when we do clean it up, we get this great sense of accomplishment, eventhough only virtually. It's silly, but one of the best things you can do when depressed is scrub your toilet. It sounds silly, but it makes a person feel as if they have accomplished and done something good or great. It offers a sense of cleanliness and goodness.

This game does the same.

Unless you play muliplayer. Then this game turns into a vindictive bloodbath after someone bonks into another player and blood is spilled...and tracked all over that floor I just cleaned! This game can be a Cinderalla's nightmare.

Is it fun? No. But it is rewarding. It is the gold star you never got in 3rd grade. It is the redemption you deserve for cleaaning your friend's vomit at a party. It excuses that one time you ♥♥♥♥ your pants. This game is worth it.

So far I've played this game or 5 hours, no bullets were shot, no one died or anything, but it was still one of the best 5 hours I've spent gaming. This game is also really great for times when you want to play a game, but every game you have requires energy and fast movement and ♥♥♥♥ and all you want to do is do something calm.
