February 15

Update V1.06 live!

Hey hey!

We live again! Back from our break from the grind-stone, and now returning to the fray. Stuff was a little slow this month because it's February; tax/biz/accounting month.. But that's getting done so we can continue dev work.

We're working on the merge of the Shadow Warrior spinoff, a new map and more fixes and similar for coming updates. Hopefully those won't take too long. Anyway, here are the fixes for v1.06!

    Maps:
  • Fixed the cave tunnel in Frostbite causing objects to glitch out of existence.
  • Fixed obstructed doors sometimes jamming in Evil Science, Caduceus and Cryogenesis.
  • Fixed Frostbite report forms expecting the "estimated dead alien entities" counter to be 0.

    Game:
  • Fixed elusive item duplication bug upon returning to the office.
  • Improved the way punchout report forms calculate the bonus for "estimate counters".
  • Fixed "estimated dead alien entities" counter on the punchout report form being able to drastically massacre your score if high numbers are entered.
  • Fixed Incinerator being bloodied by dirty mops.
  • Fixed issue causing you to be awarded the "Clean Freak" achievement for visiting the office first time from another level.

    UI:
  • Added link to Viscera Cleanup Detail Wiki on Main Menu.

Not exactly sure when the next update will be, because the merge will probably take a bit of time. However, there may be other smaller updates before then, such as the new map and some fixes.

We'll be starting to move onto other projects as we go through the year as well. Prototypes to make, others to flesh out, etc.

Enjoy, everyone!

“You know what I really love about violence? Dealing with the consequences! That’s why I’m so excited to see that Viscera Cleanup Detail, the space station janitor simulation, is now available on Steam Early Access.”
PCGamer

“By setting its mundane stall in the days after events that would be taken oh-so-seriously in another game, Viscera Cleanup Detail manages to be morbidly hilarious without ever telling a single joke.”

About This Game

Disaster! An alien invasion and subsequent infestation have decimated this facility. Many lives were lost, the facility was ruined and the aliens were unstoppable. All hope was lost until one survivor found the courage to fight back and put the aliens in their place!
It was a long and horrific battle as the survivor dueled with all manner of terrifying life-forms and alien mutations, but our hero won out in the end and destroyed the alien menace! Humanity was saved!

Unfortunately, the alien infestation and the heroic efforts of the courageous survivors have left rather a mess throughout the facility. As the janitor, it is your duty to get this place cleaned up.
So grab your mop and roll up your sleeves, this is gonna be one messy job.
Today, you're on Viscera Cleanup Detail!

Key Features

  • Janitorial Simulation - Step into the boots of a space-station sanitation technician and deal with the horrific aftermath of a sci-fi horror event. Blood, viscera, spent cartridges, worker bodies and other messes litter the facilities.
  • Clean - It's your job to clean up the mess, so clean it up you shall! Use your trusty mop, gloves, dispenser machines, plasma laser and sniffer tool to help you get all that blood out of the floor and off the ceiling! You can even try and punch-out if you think you've done your job.
  • Sandbox Gameplay - Don't want to clean? Just want to make more of a mess and play around with the physics? Go ahead! You can save your game as well; that's kind of us!
  • Multiplayer - You can even enlist some friends/coworkers to come and help you clean up (or make even more mess). Split-screen co-op is available too!

Important:

Buying Viscera Cleanup Detail also gets you our spin-off titles, 'VCD: Shadow Warrior' and 'Santa's Rampage' free!
Santa's Rampage comes included in the main game download AND as a standalone copy you can use to connect with others who only own Santa's Rampage.

Work. Work never changes.

Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the cleaning power of water and sponges, blood has been washed off in the name of everything: from promotion to simple, pure satisfaction.

In the year 2184, after the outbreak of war with aliens, the messy nature of man could sustain itself no longer: the world was plunged into an abyss of filth, junk, viscera and dismembered bloody corpses.

But it was not, as some had predicted, the end of janitor's work. Instead, the invasion was simply the prologue to another painstaking chapter of human history. For we succeeded in defeating the aliens - but work, work never changes.

In the early days, thousands of workers were spared the horrors of cleaning by dying in different ways, known as stupid. And when the janitors entered, they died in even more stupid ways - all except you. For on that fateful day, when you took your trusted mop and a bucket of water, the small wooden door of The Office closed - and never reopened. It was here when you started. It is here you will be fired.

Because, on the Spaceship: no trash ever enters, and no trash ever leaves.

Note: I initially reviewed this game in September of 2015 as an early access review, however, the review wasn't on par with my recent work, so decided to rewrite it.

Remember all those games such as Dead Space where you're on a ship killing aliens? VCD is the aftermath of that. To someone who has never seen this game before, space janitor sounds so unappealing. I mean, really, space janitor? Janitorial game? How can this be fun? Somehow, VCD makes being a janitor the funnest thing in the world! You're not just cleaning paper, dirty shoe prints, garbage, etc. You're cleaning blood, decapitated bodies, bullet holes, the whole 9 yards when it comes to the aftermath of a space battle. One of my favorite things about VCD is that it's gruesom. You will find decapitated limbs, intestines, and organs that were, at one point, safely inside their owner. Now, I'm sure you're thinking, 'there's a catch, right? It can't be purely a janitor simulator.' No catch, it's 100% janitor simulator. There are no bad guys, no shooting, nothing - just cleaning. There are eery amibent noises meant to make you weary, but there's really no danger.

If you're someone who is OCD, or someone who HAS to finish what they started, you will be spending hours in VCD. Between walking in blood and then leaving a trail, to accidentally knocking over your blood-filled water bucket, to even flinging body parts around and getting blood everywhere - there is a lot to clean up. It also depends on the map. Some maps are smaller, thus, quicker and easier. However, some of the other vanilla maps are larger, meaning you'll be spending a little bit more time on it. One of the best things about this game is that there is Steam workshop. There are quite a few community made maps, and most of them are just of amazing quality. Workshop can always greatly help a game out, and it certainly has in this case. I'm still waiting and hoping for the day of a Star Destroyer cleanup. :P

One really nice thing is that there's multiplayer! If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful game that lets you just talk with your friends, this is it. I really have to commend the developers on VCD. No one would've ever thought a janitor game would be fun, but they have proved that wrong. Sure, depending on the person, a janitor simulator will be boring no matter what, but the guys at VCD really did their best to make a janiorial game entertaining, and they succeeded.

One tiny complaint I have is the music. The developers were nice enough to include music via some type of tool (I have no clue what it is), but that music is just...bleh. I kinda wish there was better music we could clean to. I guess that's why we have things like Spotify.

Positives:

  • Quiet, peaceful game
  • Shows you the aftermath of what we usually cause.
  • Gruesom/Gorey
  • No threats.
  • Workshop
  • Trading cards
  • Multiplayer
  • Controller support
  • Achievements

Negatives:

  • Could just be me, but I've noticed the frames aren't the best in this game.
  • Music isn't the best.

This game is good, but I don't reccomend it if you get bothered by gore.

Also, who else thinks this game should be VR-compatible?

Watching all the bloody mess and gore turn into a sparkling clean level is extremely satisfying. Picking up bullet casings is so zen.

Make sure to play with friends, though. I can't really see myself playing this game alone.

Good game for wasting time and laughing at some of the weird ways people died. It's super tedious, though. Takes forever if you don't have anyone with you.

There's times when I am on Skype with a friend, or on a phone call with family. During these times, I need to focus on what they are saying and respond to it, even though what they are saying is boring me to tears. During those moments I like to play a game where I can just muck around, without having to worry about focusing on things like voice acting, or plot. Just mindless fun! Ciscera Cleanup Detail accomplishes that for me!

I LOVE the idea of this game...
Sadly the gameplay is too repetitive.
I loved it when I saw the laser gun and realized I could turn corpses into cauterized pieces that didn't bleed, or turn materials into piles of molten metal and plastic.
I though I would soon find more creative tools like that, or new tipes of mess to clean or something...
But nope. That's all.
You clean muck, blood and a black substance than can be created by burning things with the laser or... Be there.
That's it... All the time... And you can't keep the gun. You have to drop it to get anything else.
Also, movement is strange and dificult. It´s like if you had a massive body but you couldn't see it. So you'll spill buckets a lot or get stuck in places that don't appear to be tight.
I like that there seems to be something like a weight system. If you load a disposable bin too much you have to look up to lift it. Problem is the that when you carry it and look up... You can't see anything.
This game is fun... For an hour or two. Can't see myself playing it more than that.
