What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Plague Inc: Evolved is in Early Access because it is currently in active development and features dangerous pathogens – so please wash your hands after playing to avoid infection!

On a serious note, it is in Early Access because the game is stable and polished but not currently feature-complete. Early Access is a great way to get player feedback on features as they are added in - helping to make Plague Inc. perfect!

Over 35 million people have played Plague Inc. to date and their input has been invaluable. Please get in touch and let me know how you want the game to evolve!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are working very hard to add in new content and cool features and hope to be out of Early Access in a few months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is stable and polished with the core game complete. The Full Version will have additional features added.

So far - we have added:
  • The mind controlling Neurax Worm special disease type
  • The zombie-making Necroa Virus special disease type
  • The Simian Flu from the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes movie!
  • 18 Official Scenarios
  • Custom Scenario Creator
  • Speed run gameplay mode
  • 3 new cheats and greatly enhanced cheat functionality
  • Mac support

We are still working on:
  • Competitive Multiplayer mode
  • Co-operative Multiplayer mode
  • Linux support

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At the moment, the game is stable and polished with the core game complete and we are working on additional features. Please only buy the game now if you are OK with this and understand that you may also encounter bugs (not the good, world-killing kind...).”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We may increase the price when the game comes out of early access but this has not been decided yet”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback and comments are incredibly important for the development process of Plague Inc: Evolved. We are extremely grateful for having such a passionate group of players and we make sure not to take it for granted.

Players will be able to send us feedback and ideas via the steam forums, the in-game contact form, twitter, Facebook etc. We will also use polls and specific forum threads to gather targeted feedback as required.

Developer commitments:
  • Be open and honest with players
  • Clearly communicate our development plans
  • Always post a change log when an update is released (I hate it when this doesn't get done :P)
  • Read every single comment on the forums and be an active presence
  • Respond to every support email
Note - due to Steam Friends limit - I can't accept every friend request - sorry! I will refresh my friend list every month or so in order to talk to new people.”

Development Log - Scenario Creator and Multiplayer

The next update is nearly here! More info on what it will contain as well as other things we are working on below...

Scenario Creator to get Events Lab update

In the next few days, the beta for the most powerful Scenario Creator update yet goes live. The Events Lab adds vast scripting / mod options on top of all the other labs you can already use. With this you will be able to make killer robots stampede through countries, have zombies that spontaneously explode, or just put the entire population of Greenland in a rocket and send them to the moon! The only limit will be your imagination (and scripting skills :P).

New Featured Community Scenarios

Players are making some awesome scenarios and Featured Scenarios highlight some of the most inventive and polished creations. Here are the latest Featured Scenarios - congrats to authors!
Cult of Cthulhu by Morrolan
Primeval Anomalies by brothercake
Last Judgement by Fallon
Animatronic by 男性を負担
Human Hives by SKello89

You can check out these and thousands of other scenarios in game now!

Multiplayer development

With the Scenario Creator almost complete, development time is shifting over to Multiplayer. I'm having a great time as I get to pull out my design hat and develop new systems that really shine in a player vs player environment. The current focus is competitive multiplayer and we will move onto co-operative multiplayer after that.

More on this soon!

Early Access Evolution 11 released - Multi-language support for Custom Scenarios! (and dev log)

Evolution 11 notes
I'm amazed by the quality of custom scenarios that the community is making and one piece of feedback we have repeatedly got is that people want to be able to translate their scenarios without having to make multiple different versions on the Steam Workshop as this splits the community.

Your wish is my command and I am pleased to say that we have therefore added the ability to have multiple languages for your scenario which means that people can play the scenario in their own language! If their language isn't available, then the creator can also set which language it will default to in this case.

This update also includes a number of tweaks and fixes for the game - see change log below.

Development log
I'm keen to make sure that great custom scenarios get discovered by players and we are starting to look at them to see which scenarios should be featured. There are load of scenarios to look at so if you are interested in helping out - then please follow this link to become a Custom Scenario Creator Judge.

Our Early Access journey continues and the next Evolution (12) will add immense power to the Scenario Creator in the form of the Events Lab. This will allow you to create game-changing events and narrative pop ups for your scenario using powerful mod/scripting tools. The only limit is your imagination :P

We are also hard at work on multiplayer now and are having a lot of fun testing it in Office Zero. Will share more news soon!

Happy Halloween!

James

Major changes:
Scenario Creator

  • Translations option - SC allows creator to export game strings, edit the files and import back in so that the same scenario can host multiple languages.
Main Game
  • Graphs for population now area graphs.
  • Updated main game population bar tool tips.
  • Added Custom Scenario search tagging filter for Languages.
Full change log can be found on our forum.

About This Game

Plague Inc: Evolved is a unique mix of high strategy and terrifyingly realistic simulation. Your pathogen has just infected 'Patient Zero' - now you must bring about the end of human history by evolving a deadly, global Plague whilst adapting against everything humanity can do to defend itself.

Plague Inc. is so realistic that the CDC even asked the developer to come and speak about the infection models in the game! http://blogs.cdc.gov/publichealthmatters/2013/04/plague-inc/.

Over 35 million players have been infected by Plague Inc., and Plague Inc: Evolved combines the original critically acclaimed gameplay with significant, all-new features for PC:

  • Infectious Multiplayer - cooperative and competitive gameplay modes let you team up to fight the cure with friends, or compete in a race to kill the world.
  • Contagious Content Creator - hit the lab and develop your own custom scenarios, creating new plague types and worlds. Bring your deadliest ideas to life and share them with Steam Workshop.
  • Blinding Graphics - including full 3D disease models taking you closer to your plague than ever before, city-cams showing humanity's struggle at street level, and the body scanner highlighting the full effect of your mutations, organ by organ.
  • Deadly Data - predict government responses with priority indicators, geek out with loads of new stats and graphs, and analyse your best strategies with end-of-game replays.

Please note that Plague Inc: Evolved is currently in Early Access (see above for more details). We are currently hard at work and will be adding / polishing features over the coming weeks. More information: http://www.ndemiccreations.com/en/31-plague-inc-evolved-early-access.

  • 10 Different Disease Types – Master every pathogen; from bacteria to bio-weapons and mind control to zombies, end humanity by any means possible – different diseases will need radically different approaches.
  • Infectious Multiplayer – Cooperative and Competitive gameplay; team up to fight the cure with friends, or compete in a race to kill the world.
  • Contagious Content Creator – Hit the lab; develop your own custom scenarios - creating new plague types and worlds. Bring your deadliest ideas to life and share them with Steam Workshop.
  • 18 Unique Scenarios – Adapt your strategy; scenarios create further challenges for your pandemic – how will you handle a new strain of Swine Flu, or infect a world in Ice Age?
  • Stunning Graphical Features – Watch your disease take hold; witness your pathogen mutate in real-time disease models, see humanity's struggle at street-level on city-cams, and watch the full effect of your mutations organ-by-organ on the body scanner.
  • Hyper-Realistic World – Strategize in the real world; advanced AI and use of real-world data and events make Plague Inc: Evolved a highly authentic simulation of a world-ending pathogen. Even the CDC likes it!
  • Deadly Data - Geek out with stats and graphs; monitor infection and death levels, track government reactions and cure efforts, then review your plague's success (or failure!) with full game replays.
  • And much more... - Including speed runs, Mega-Brutal difficulty and genetic modification... Plus loads of new disease types and scenarios in future (free!) updates.

Have you ever dreamed of being able to eradicate humanity from Earth? A virus so strong that it would spread all around the world, infecting every person just to end up killing absolutely everyone? Well... you better start playing Plague Inc: Evolved.

At the start of each game, you have your choice of disease, ranging from bacterium to prion (mad cow disease) to some more wacky, video game-y plagues like a viral bioweapon and worms that take control of people's brains (as in Resident Evils ).
The first plague type you’ll get to play is the Bacteria, you have to beat the game in Normal or above in order to unlock the next kind of plague.
From there, you pick a starting country and begin infecting everyone you can. When it comes to the plague itself, players are given three sections to evolve, which are, transmission, symptoms and abilities; here is where strategies come alive, as by evolving your plague is that people get infected, get sick, and finally die, but at the same time, the more dangerous the virus is, the more noticeable it will become.
After beating the Bacteria game and killing every single human with it, you unlock the Virus, a vicious plague that will mutate over time, making it really hard to contain, and forcing players to adjust their previous strategy accordingly.

Picking a wealthy country as your first target, while making it difficult to spread disease quickly, allows you to farm some of the continuous and randomly spawning DNA points, helping you get some valuable upgrades before people begin to take notice.
It's also a lot easier to spread sickness around the globe from a country like the United States, which has a lot of land and sea trade routes to other locations, versus a country like Algeria, which can only spread your disease to neighboring countries.
It's a surreal experience, and one that's unique within gaming. Even so, there are a number of features I'd like to see in the final product.
Everything on display so far is about infection, control, and then extermination. Surviving in this world would be remarkable, particularly if you could form a kind of seasonally recurring pathogen. Killing everyone is plenty of fun and certainly a challenge on the higher difficulty levels.

Even in its beta state, Plague Inc: Evolved is a worthy expansion of its predecessor, but it's also one that makes me want more.I love the mix of reality and macabre humour in Plague Inc.
The game isn’t a finished yet, but even this isn’t an issue as there are constant updates.

If you enjoyed the flash game Pandemic you'll love this! If you're not familiar with the game, you basically choose a disease and plot to infect humanity with various transmissions and abilities. Some of the new disease types like the Necroa virus (where you create and control zombies) and the apes from planet of the apes are actually done really well. This game is easily worth the ~$10 I have seen it on sale for!

I played this game like a crack addict on my phone during brakes in my summer job and now iv'e decided to get the PC version and it's even better.

If you ever wanted to feel like a sick evil mastermind who's sole goal is to kill humanity in many wonderess ways then this game is it, from bacteria infections that might cause explosive diarrhea to kill it's subject to plain ol' simple zombie viruses, it has it all.
It's your turn to roleplay as a stupidly evil mastermind the likes of the Umbrella corp. and destroy the world just for your own entertainment.

So, a game where you spread a disease to end all human life... what's not to love! So many plagues and gene types to unlock and use. So many possibilities. When I first played this game, I instantly fell in love with it. There are many positive points about these games.

+ Replay value

A lot of replay value. I could be playing this for years and would not get bored of it. Especially with the Steam Workshop Integration. Tons of custom scenarios created by people all over the world. Endless fun.

+ Educational value

Now, the part no one's been waiting for. This game does give some educational value. People get to learn different types of plagues and symptoms. Very educational. Okay, done with this part. Whew.

+ Scenario Creator

Why go with the normal boring symptoms, transmissions and abilities when you can completely change them to whatever your heart desires. The scenario creator provides players a chance to carve the world to their own liking. Renaming countries, setting your own government actions, creating non-existent diseases and more. Plague Inc can't get any better than this.

I would add in some negative points, but I couldn't find any. Oh well :)

Plague Inc is a very addictive, innovative and smart game. Even in Early Access is this game a big success. A few bugs here and there, but it's still developing. I can tell that this game is going to skyrocket once it is fully developed. Can't wait for multiplayer! Plague Inc is here to stay!

The fact that I like this game shouldn't detract from the fact that I can't recommend it.

This is a game meant to be played on a phone, and it shows. It is very one-dimensional and once you've figured it out (should take about 15 minutes at most) that's it. Sure there are levels and things to unlock, but the bottom line is that it should only be purchased on sale. I paid full price and I regret it.

The rundown:

-Fun, but the same way a single level of mario is. You can do it a few different ways and win. You can unlock things and play it again (in the same way) and win. Satisfying the first three times and not much more.

-Educating, but not in a good or useful way. It gives legitimate details about pathogens but nothing else. Like reading the cliffnotes of "all about disease"

-Entertaining in exactly the same way smallpox was, take that as you will.

-Replayability is hugely limited due to the limited nature of the game.

I'll admit to enjoying it the first two times through the rest of it wasn't so enjoyable. I know I only show a few hours of the game but that's all it takes. There's a basic strategy that takes you though twenty minutes of playtime and that's it. Buy it on sale and enjoy it but NEVER pay full price or you'll be left with the knowledge that you did nothing but pay for an undergrad to fail his midterms.

If your a fan of Plague INC on IOS or android, or a fan of Pandemic you will like this. This creates a level/disease creator that lets you change everything. Want bronies to take over the world ripping people apart limb by limb? Want a computer virus to infect real people and kill everyone? Want lamps to rise up and kill off humanity? The possibilities are endless.

Good stuff:
-Fun creator.
-Fun killing people.
-Easy to run.

Bad stuff:
-Needs alot more content for the price. (Is currently in Alpha)

If you have ever played the flash game "Pandemic" or "Pandemic 2" and enjoyed it, this game is for you.
While it contains and makes use of many features and standout areas the flash games utilise, it offers a much more in depth gaming experience. With many different scenarios to try along with the ability to choose to play both your own custom scenario and those others have created, you'll be playing for a long time. Not only this, but to enhance you overall experience, the challenge of unlocking each scenario and different genes and "cheats" (for the lack of a better word) means that it isn't a pushover game that can be completed in mere hours and actually requires a certain amount of strategy, calculated moves and thought.
I'm not one for strategy games usually, however this one has peaked my interest and I strongly suggest people buy it.
