What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Plague Inc: Evolved is in Early Access because it is currently in active development and features dangerous pathogens – so please wash your hands after playing to avoid infection!

On a serious note, it is in Early Access because the game is stable and polished but not currently feature-complete. Early Access is a great way to get player feedback on features as they are added in - helping to make Plague Inc. perfect!

Over 35 million people have played Plague Inc. to date and their input has been invaluable. Please get in touch and let me know how you want the game to evolve!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are working very hard to add in new content and cool features and hope to be out of Early Access in a few months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version is stable and polished with the core game complete. The Full Version will have additional features added.

So far - we have added:
  • The mind controlling Neurax Worm special disease type
  • The zombie-making Necroa Virus special disease type
  • The Simian Flu from the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes movie!
  • 18 Official Scenarios
  • Custom Scenario Creator
  • Speed run gameplay mode
  • 3 new cheats and greatly enhanced cheat functionality
  • Mac support

We are still working on:
  • Competitive Multiplayer mode
  • Co-operative Multiplayer mode
  • Linux support

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At the moment, the game is stable and polished with the core game complete and we are working on additional features. Please only buy the game now if you are OK with this and understand that you may also encounter bugs (not the good, world-killing kind...).”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We may increase the price when the game comes out of early access but this has not been decided yet”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback and comments are incredibly important for the development process of Plague Inc: Evolved. We are extremely grateful for having such a passionate group of players and we make sure not to take it for granted.

Players will be able to send us feedback and ideas via the steam forums, the in-game contact form, twitter, Facebook etc. We will also use polls and specific forum threads to gather targeted feedback as required.

Developer commitments:
  • Be open and honest with players
  • Clearly communicate our development plans
  • Always post a change log when an update is released (I hate it when this doesn't get done :P)
  • Read every single comment on the forums and be an active presence
  • Respond to every support email
Note - due to Steam Friends limit - I can't accept every friend request - sorry! I will refresh my friend list every month or so in order to talk to new people.”

Early Access Evolution 13 released - The Santa's Little Helper Update!

It’s the holiday season – time to infect the world with happiness! Boring governments have banned holidays, laughter and celebrations. Luckily, the Neurax Worm has teamed up with Santa and is determined to infect the whole world with joy and happiness.

On top of this, we have added a Teleportation scenario - Highly advanced technology has created the opportunity to travel through a portal and teleport to other countries. Where will they go?

We've also added loads of new achievements for Simian Flu and a few others. Still waiting for someone to work out how to do "Film Fanatic" properly though :p

There are of course a range of other fixes/tweaks/improvements, including the ability to download scenario files from the Steam Cloud so that you can easily work on a custom scenario from a different machine.

Hope you enjoy spreading the Christmas Spirit :p

Development Update

With the Scenario Creator fully functional (and people making awesome stuff)- we are now focusing on the multiplayer mode. We have some very buggy versions being played between the team, and we are very excited about it. More news in January

James

p.s. fans of Portal should keep an eye out for Easter Eggs ;)

Major Changes:

Main Game

  • Santa's Little Helper Scenario
  • Teleportation Scenario
  • 25 New achievements
Scenario Creator
  • Added ability for creators to download scenarios from cloud

Early Access Evolution 12 released - the Events Lab for the Scenario Creator!

The most powerful Scenario Creator update yet is live! Now you can make killer robots stampede through countries, have zombies that spontaneously explode, or just put the entire population of Greenland in a rocket and send them to the moon! The only limit is your imagination (and scripting skills :P).

The Events Lab adds vast scripting / mod options on top of all the other labs you can already use. Many Custom Scenarios have great storylines, however they still have the standard Plague Inc. pop ups appearing halfway through. Now you have the ability to remove standard events and script your own.

Better still, this gives you the opportunity to drastically change gameplay partway through. At the moment you can only set up how the game starts and how the governments respond, but with the Events Lab you can tweak variables (however small or large) at different intervals throughout the game. The scenario can react to the player, and the player will have to react to the scenario. There is a mountain of new variables/mechanisms that can be accessed now, from changing difficulty halfway through a game to bringing people back from the dead as normal healthy people (not as zombies!).

This update gives you an amazing amount of scope to do some really radical things with the Scenario Creator. We are looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Development Update

Now that the Scenario Creator is fully functional - we are now shifting full focus to the multiplayer mode. We have some very buggy versions being played between the team, and we are very excited about it. We will also be releasing 2 special scenarios in the new few weeks - keep an eye out for Santa's Little Helper and the Teleportation scenarios.

Enjoy!

Major Changes:
Main Game

  • Added new filtering options for finding custom scenario by Language & Topic tags.
  • Added rate up / rate down popup at the end of a custom scenario games.
Scenario Creator
  • Add Events Lab! Allows creators to build a whole range of events for their scenarios!
  • Added tagging system to allow creators to add description tag to their scenario (in publisher screen)
  • Added new Achievement for publishing a scenario.

About This Game

Plague Inc: Evolved is a unique mix of high strategy and terrifyingly realistic simulation. Your pathogen has just infected 'Patient Zero' - now you must bring about the end of human history by evolving a deadly, global Plague whilst adapting against everything humanity can do to defend itself.

Plague Inc. is so realistic that the CDC even asked the developer to come and speak about the infection models in the game! http://blogs.cdc.gov/publichealthmatters/2013/04/plague-inc/.

Over 35 million players have been infected by Plague Inc., and Plague Inc: Evolved combines the original critically acclaimed gameplay with significant, all-new features for PC:

  • Infectious Multiplayer - cooperative and competitive gameplay modes let you team up to fight the cure with friends, or compete in a race to kill the world.
  • Contagious Content Creator - hit the lab and develop your own custom scenarios, creating new plague types and worlds. Bring your deadliest ideas to life and share them with Steam Workshop.
  • Blinding Graphics - including full 3D disease models taking you closer to your plague than ever before, city-cams showing humanity's struggle at street level, and the body scanner highlighting the full effect of your mutations, organ by organ.
  • Deadly Data - predict government responses with priority indicators, geek out with loads of new stats and graphs, and analyse your best strategies with end-of-game replays.

Please note that Plague Inc: Evolved is currently in Early Access (see above for more details). We are currently hard at work and will be adding / polishing features over the coming weeks. More information: http://www.ndemiccreations.com/en/31-plague-inc-evolved-early-access.

  • 10 Different Disease Types – Master every pathogen; from bacteria to bio-weapons and mind control to zombies, end humanity by any means possible – different diseases will need radically different approaches.
  • Infectious Multiplayer – Cooperative and Competitive gameplay; team up to fight the cure with friends, or compete in a race to kill the world.
  • Contagious Content Creator – Hit the lab; develop your own custom scenarios - creating new plague types and worlds. Bring your deadliest ideas to life and share them with Steam Workshop.
  • 18 Unique Scenarios – Adapt your strategy; scenarios create further challenges for your pandemic – how will you handle a new strain of Swine Flu, or infect a world in Ice Age?
  • Stunning Graphical Features – Watch your disease take hold; witness your pathogen mutate in real-time disease models, see humanity's struggle at street-level on city-cams, and watch the full effect of your mutations organ-by-organ on the body scanner.
  • Hyper-Realistic World – Strategize in the real world; advanced AI and use of real-world data and events make Plague Inc: Evolved a highly authentic simulation of a world-ending pathogen. Even the CDC likes it!
  • Deadly Data - Geek out with stats and graphs; monitor infection and death levels, track government reactions and cure efforts, then review your plague's success (or failure!) with full game replays.
  • And much more... - Including speed runs, Mega-Brutal difficulty and genetic modification... Plus loads of new disease types and scenarios in future (free!) updates.

First death from sex has been confirmed

Sex has infected more people in the world than HIV (How ironic.)

Sex is more infectious than the common cold

The president is ill with sex

Sex has destroyed humanity

The last healthy person on Earth recently became infected with sex

...

Clearly you can die from too much sex.

The fact that I like this game shouldn't detract from the fact that I can't recommend it.

This is a game meant to be played on a phone, and it shows. It is very one-dimensional and once you've figured it out (should take about 15 minutes at most) that's it. Sure there are levels and things to unlock, but the bottom line is that it should only be purchased on sale. I paid full price and I regret it.

The rundown:

-Fun, but the same way a single level of mario is. You can do it a few different ways and win. You can unlock things and play it again (in the same way) and win. Satisfying the first three times and not much more.

-Educating, but not in a good or useful way. It gives legitimate details about pathogens but nothing else. Like reading the cliffnotes of "all about disease"

-Entertaining in exactly the same way smallpox was, take that as you will.

-Replayability is hugely limited due to the limited nature of the game.

I'll admit to enjoying it the first two times through the rest of it wasn't so enjoyable. I know I only show a few hours of the game but that's all it takes. There's a basic strategy that takes you though twenty minutes of playtime and that's it. Buy it on sale and enjoy it but NEVER pay full price or you'll be left with the knowledge that you did nothing but pay for an undergrad to fail his midterms.

As a huge fan of the Android game it was a no brainer for me to pick this up when it went on sale, certainly not disappointed. In Plague Inc: Evolved your aim is to eradicate humanity using a disease of your creation. A strategy game at its core you will rely on some luck but finding an effective strategy for your disease is the key to success.

+Nice looking game
+3D view of your disease which reacts to evolution and devolution
+A good selection of pathogens to choose from
+A good number of modifiers unlocked by winning a match to make the game more interesting
+Some truly hilarious jokes, mainly about the gaming industry, including one about Valve and another about CoD
+Good level of difficulty on normal, you might not win on your first try
+Different enough from the iOS and android version to make it worth a buy but similar enough to be as good if not better
+The option to speed up time
+Doesn't feel like an early access game, everything you can play feels complete

+/-Reasonably frequent updates, better than most but not as frequent as others
+/-You only get unlocks on normal or higher difficulty
+/-Quite a laid back game, doesn't require much input

So far I haven't come across any negatives worth noting

Verdict:
9

A great game with a lot of potential, if you aren't ready to give up your money then this is certainly one to watch.

I got this game on my tablet and it was pretty enjoyable to play. Glad to see they're adding some new things to their PC version. So lemme just recap the good things:
- You can name your disease "Cuddles" or something ironic like that
- You act as the god or scientist on a sattelite, upgrading the abilities, symptoms, and the types of spreading of the disease while watching over the world, making sure your virus spreads by any means necessary
- Any player can play this game pretty easily once you get the basics handed down. If you're just a casual gamer like me then just go to casual mode, or if you like a challenge and realism go to Brutal mode to test your knowledge on how a disease outbreak can destroy the earth (in the game of course :P)
- The game itself doesn't require a good PC to run, I'm running this on my laptop which has a medicore graphics card and it still runs fine with no issues.
- Loads of information on the screen, both based on your disease and world events (news, cure research, activity, etc)
- The disease tree allows the player to add a more personal touch to their disease and it doesn't force you to stick to a certain pattern to win, contradictory to what I just said it all depends on your knowledge on how an epidemic starts. For example: a disease that can only be spreaded through water and hot climates will eventually be cured if the traits are kept that way because the world is smart in this game.
- Diseases in the game have a pretty "realistic" nature. If a disease can be spreaded through kisses and hugs it can do that. Be careful though, humans are realistic too, and will eventually thwart your plants by stopping people from hugging and kissing each other eventually. Plan your diseases carefully and upgrade them to the best of your abilities, or personal taste. Make sure to stop the humans from finding loopholes to your epidemic by finding loopholes in their ways of curing people or at least stopping the spread.
- Controls are pretty straight forward, just point the mouse and click. No need for mulitple key bindings if you don't want too, but that's up to personal preference to dictate whether it's good or not to have a game relying on a cursor most of the time.

Now lemme recap the bad things:
- Trying to attempt this game in real life (by that I mean actually starting a real disease) will get you in big doo doo
- If you can't understand what disease is and how it spreads, as well as basic disease terminology, this game may be difficult for you
- Blindly picking stuff from the tree is bad, I've been there and had my disease stopped on Casual difficulty (the easiest difficulty in the game). Reading IS required for the game since the symptoms and diagrams provide you with hints on what each symptom and trait your next choice have and how they behave.
- Recap: Reading is required. Not too much but you need to at least have a basic understanding of reading and some big words. If you don't like reading, then this game isn't for you.

All in all this game is great! I hope they keep developing more things to add to it. Been a fan ever since the app came out for phones and tablets, still a fan for the PC version :D

"You see, it starts out as a minor rash, with some excessive sweating. The sweating partially dehydrates a person. Skin lesions form across the arms and legs, opening up the skin, causing infection to set in. The person begins to suffer from coughing fits and eventually contracts pneumonia. As the bacterica works it's way into the brain, insomnia and paranoia set in. The bacteria spreads through the air, permeates the water supply. After a while, it becomes resistant to extreme cold and heat. As the insomnia becomes extreme, the person begins suffering from seizures. Necrosis sets in. The lungs grow cysts, causing pulmonary fibrosis. After weeks without sleep, insanity sets in, and shortly after, total organ failure. It's the perfect disease."

Needless to say, this game is freaky as hell, 10/10.

If you want to kill massive amount fo humans, it's a game for you. Quickly? Sure. Painfully? Yep. Slowly with chance for insanity? Why not. Or maybe you'll infect them all and laugh maliciously while wondering how to kill them all? Sure.

Actually this game is one big 'malicious laughter' training.

You need to infect the entire population of the world, and then kill them. With all kinds of different disease/virus types, gene modifications, and the choice of which symptoms you want your disease to display in its patients.
Different ways the disease can be transmitted, resistances to temperatures and different climates.

I like to think of this as a kind of "total world-destruction solitaire". Take that how you will.
Some of the game is very skill-oriented, where as some times on harder difficulties you may rely on the chance of your disease spreading to other continents and having to re-try several times, if not sever dozens of times. So that's the luck part.

This game is very in-depth strategy that puts you in the role of a vengeful, wrathful evil god (or perhaps scientist, who knows?)

If you ever played the popular flash games Pandemic or Pandemic 2 years ago and enjoyed them, this is your game.

It draws obvious inspiration from those games, but adds even more depth and realism to the strategy involved.
More ways to destroy humanity, more information on how your destruction is coming along, better visuals.

In all ways imaginable it is a beefier, better re-creation of Pandemic into a higher-tech envinronmnt than just flash games would be able to bring you.

Overall, for being in early access, I still feel like I got more than my money's worth. Plus, there's new content being added, constant fixes, and upcoming multiplayer with versus and co-op.

Easily a 10/10
Highly recommended

I've played this game both on my iPhone and on Steam. I LOVE it! It keeps me entertained for hours upon hours as I figure out new strategies for killing off humanity. And, since I have played this game so much, I tend to view real world scenarios (such as the Ebola outbreak in west Africa) from the viewpoint of this game to try to figure out what the next best action for "the Cure" might be. Highly recommended for nerdy and geeky types!

I had a hard time putting Plague Inc down, despite the game’s copious amounts of downtime and bare-bones presentation. It’s exhilarating (in a grim way) to see your rate of infection climb into the billions thanks to perfect planning, and then mutate in killer traits like Pneumonia and Fever to secure the end of human history.

This is seriously a fun game. I forgot how games like this can be so entertaining because I have been playing all the best (?) horror games out there. It kind of reminds me of Starcraft II in the sense it has a lot of variations in how things can play out. I highly recommend it (if you like killing 7 billion people!). Replay value is 10/10 so I see myself playing often for quite a while.
