Evolution 18 - Parasite, Fungus and Steam Controller come out to play!

Even though Plague Inc: Evolved has left Early Access, it continues to evolve and add new, exciting gameplay! With this evolution we have 2 new multiplayer disease types for you - Fungus and Parasite - as well as several new Multiplayer genes. On top of this, we have also added Steam controller support, once again increasing the different ways to play Plague Inc :)

Here is a summary of the main features:

  • Fungus Multiplayer disease type - As ever, the fungus will find it hard to travel long distances, even by unscheduled flight. However the regular spores will give you a brand new mechanism to help you spread around the globe. This fungus is much happier in humid climates too...
  • Parasite Multiplayer disease type - The Parasite has a parasitic(!) approach to DNA collection, with the ability to harvest DNA from your opponent's corpses. However, your severity will increase as your opponent evolves so it won't be long before humans are out to cure you.
  • Steam Controller Support - We have now added the official Ndemic-designed Steam controller support. Our configuration ensures that you can play Plague Inc: Evolved as happily with the Steam controller as you can with mouse and keyboard!
  • New Multiplayer Genes - 5 new Multiplayer genes will allow you to customise your plague to suit your strategies even more. Think you can find their starting country quickly? Use the "Search and Destroy" gene! Want to mutate Transmissions and Abilities? Use the "Base Hydration" gene! Want more detail about where your opponent is? Use the "Peekaboo" gene! But remember, as ever, all these genes have a downside...

We'll have more updates to come over the next few months. We have more Multiplayer disease types in the pipeline, as well as some single player ones as well. We've also got plans for improvements to the Scenario Creator, as well as an engine upgrade (which will allow us to keep releasing new content in the future). Basically, there's still much more to come from Plague Inc: Evolved, so do keep an eye out ;)

Full Change Log:
New Additions
  • New Multiplayer Disease Types - Fungus and Parasite!
  • 5 brand new genes for use in Multiplayer
  • Steam Controller compatibility added. Works in every game mode!
Tweaks
  • Improvements to the Benign Mimic ability in VS mode - massively increasing its effectiveness if placed in the same country repeatedly and making it easier to get a foothold in a benign mimiced country
  • Leaderboards and statistics tweaks
  • New DLLs added, to resolve the issue where a handful of users were having difficulties launching the game
  • Expanded hit box on smaller islands for ease of selection
  • Minor text and graphical tweaks
Fixes
  • Z-Com spawn issue fixed
  • Worm Food and Assuming Direct Control achievements should be working correctly now

About This Game

Plague Inc: Evolved is a unique mix of high strategy and terrifyingly realistic simulation. Your pathogen has just infected 'Patient Zero' - now you must bring about the end of human history by evolving a deadly, global Plague whilst adapting against everything humanity can do to defend itself.

Plague Inc. is so realistic that the CDC even asked the developer to come and speak about the infection models in the game! http://blogs.cdc.gov/publichealthmatters/2013/04/plague-inc/.

Over 65 million players have been infected by Plague Inc. already. Now, Plague Inc: Evolved combines the original critically acclaimed gameplay with significant, all-new features for PC including multiplayer, user-generated content support, improved graphics and lots more.

  • 10 Different Disease Types – Master every pathogen; from bacteria to bio-weapons and mind control to zombies, end humanity by any means possible – different diseases will need radically different approaches.
  • 20 Unique Scenarios – Adapt your strategy; scenarios create further challenges for your pandemic – how will you handle a new strain of Swine Flu, or infect a world in Ice Age?
  • Hyper-Realistic World – Strategize in the real world; advanced AI and use of real-world data and events make Plague Inc: Evolved a highly authentic simulation of a world-ending pathogen. Even the CDC likes it!
  • Competitive Multiplayer - The world is unlucky enough to be infected with two plagues, but how will you win the battle for genetic dominance against your opponent? Players get all new evolutions, abilities and genes to help them fight for global control and destroy their opponent!
  • Co-Operative Mode - Two different diseases team up to infect and destroy the world together but Humanity has new tricks up its sleeve to fight back! Work closely with your partner and use brand-new genes, traits and strategies to smash cure labs all over the world before they eradicate you.
  • Contagious Content Creator - Hit the lab and develop your own custom scenarios - creating new plague types, worlds and in-game events. Sophisticated tools support user-generated content to let players bring their deadliest ideas to life and share them on Steam Workshop. With over 10,000 custom scenarios already released - there is always something new to infect!
  • Blinding Graphics - Full 3D disease models take you closer to your plague than ever before, city-cams show humanity's struggle at street level, and the body scanner highlights the full effect of your mutations, organ by organ.
  • Deadly Data - Geek out with stats and graphs; monitor infection and death levels, track government reactions and cure efforts, then review your plague's success (or failure!) with full game replays.
  • And much more... - Including speed runs, Mega-Brutal difficulty and genetic modification... Plus loads of new disease types and scenarios in future (free!) updates.

I've had this game on my android for a while but I didn't get the Steam version until recently. Personally, I enjoy it a lot. I don't get bored with this game very easily. If you like realistic strategy games, then Plague Inc. is a MUST. It makes you think, consider every viable option you have, and put the human race in some pretty hilarious situations. You get to name your disease whatever the hell you want. You can name it something like "Dank memes" and when you win it says "Dank memes has has wiped out all life on earth" or something like that. Comedy Gold. My only quibble is that sometimes the game doesn't start up properly from time to time and you have to close and re-open it.

Well, it´s not the greatest strategy game i´ve ever played, but it´s fun, and im proud to say that i have played the original free web version and im happy to see how much i has grown, some diseases are fun (yup, i just said that), but others force me to look on the internet for the solucion for how dificult they are, the mods are no great thing (and i´m a great fan of mods), but i still play it when ever i´m waiting for other games to release.

Used to play a crappier online version of this years ago.
This although similar, has so much more in it.
Different scenarios, a butt-load of new disease types and a massive community to improve on all parts.

Plus, how many games can I wipe out humanity with My ♥♥♥♥?

First off, you can see that I have played this game for a decent amount of hours - that means it managed to keep my attention for a long time, which is not easy. I just keep coming back to it and it's great every time I play it. I would never have thought that obliterating the whole population with sneaky pathogens that strike everyone down with cruel and gruesome symptoms (which are admittedy, quite funny sometimes - "Ooops", I am looking at you), would be so much fun. Plague Inc really is a game well done and I honestly recommend it. Go buy it!

Pros:
+great replay value
+challenging but not too annoying
+you can actually learn how to beat it and then come up with new, creative ways yourself
+custom scenarios and multiplayer are an awesome addition
+very fitting soundrack
+there are loads of achievements and it's fun to try to obtain them

Cons:
-Greenland. MOTHER. EFFIN. GREENLAND.

A fun death simulator you can actually learn to beat rather than just staying ahead of RNG or being "lucky" in general. I appreciate how much thought went into this when they could've just as easily made a random mess that punishes and rewards players nonsensically. Good work.

It's pretty good so far. I've played the mobile Plague Inc and this one is even better! It would be nice to see some more disease types though! Multiplayer co-op and versus is very fun. I really like how you can customise your desease at the beggining with the different Genes you can use.
My favourite part is the custom scenario creator as you can change whatever you want and add your own evolutionary traits - from country population to cure research speed.

Wasn't sure of differences between mobile Plague Inc version of the game and the PC PI:E ... pleasantly surprised!
Much prefer PC version which includes all previous PI expansion packs, shinier graphics and multi & co-op (haven't tried those yet). The appearance and sound effects reminds me a lot of Uplink, which is enough for me to give it a 10/10.
Excited for many replays and unlocks. Except for Greenland, which can DIAF.

Let's start of with saying, that I work in a hospital. Love taking care of all the people that are sick/dying and trying to fight off whatever illness/disease process they have.

This game is actually pretty exciting since I have to do the opposite of what I do everyday!
SIck, I know! But look at it at a medical person's point of view: we have to know what disease it is and how it works to defeat it, but in this game, you have to make it BETTER!

This game is pretty helpful in real life because it makes me better at what I do ;-)

Suggestions:
Do mini games where you have to go inside a person's body and, for example, if I'm a virus I get a chance to try and infect other healthy cells, but I also have to try and hijack and destroy the T-cells that defend the body, etc.

If I'm a parasyte (see the cool way I spelled it? Haha), give me a chance to try and infect the host whilst trying to avoid being destroyed myself.

If I'm a tumor, give me a chance to try and hijack the replication process of the cells to make it cancerous. I believe there are G-0 to G-3 gates during replication, but I'm not too sure right now as I write this.

TL;DR: Very fun but somewhat limited replayability

The co op and versus modes fix that to a certain degree, because your opponent's strategy significantly affects your experience of the game. It also helps that it takes a while to unlock all of the different types of plagues. The news headlines are amusing. I like to read those while I'm waiting to get more DNA points. Oh yeah, sometimes it can take multiple minutes to save up points, especially early-game when you haven't infected very many people yet. Also, as a pedantic person it bothers me that you can become "antibiotic-resistant" as a virus. The game obviously isn't supposed to be scientifically sound, considering it contains zombie viruses, so I'll let that one slide.

...I always feel slightly guilty when I win a game, too.

Fun for a while but lacks depth in gameplay. Replayability factor is low (after destroying humanity several times, the urge to launch the game is practically non-existent for me). Had a few interesting games but can't get enthusiastic about playing again. Get it on sale or perhaps don't get it at all.
