Things have been rather busy but I'm pleased to let you know that we have just completed our first major multiplayer gameplay beta test - and it went great! :)
Over 150 people took part in this round of beta testing - all of the key gameplay elements were in game so people got to play *proper* Plague Inc. multiplayer for the first time. We got lots of useful feedback and everyone seemed to really enjoy playing (which was a relief!) :)
The beta also revealed a number of lobby / lag issues which we are currently working on fixing. Once these are sorted - we will be starting the next beta round with these fixes along with gameplay and balance enhancements.
This will hopefully start within the next week. People who applied to the beta originally - keep an eye on your emails
To everyone not in the beta - hang in there - you don't have long to wait now.
During July, we have been running various technical beta tests on the multiplayer. Thank you so much to all the testers who have been sharing their findings with us - the quality of responses has been brilliant.
The headline from the beta was that the multiplayer worked without any major technical problems - this was a big relief! :)
It also provided us with a lot of connectivity data and identified a number of lobby issues as well as some lag spikes for a few players. The lobby issues are now fixed and we are putting some time into optimising data-packets to deal with the lag - initial player reports suggest it is sorted!
Although the gameplay was heavily restricted to ensure focus on the connection - we also got a few interesting gameplay facts - the most popular country to start in was China and >30% of players went with a rather powerful Nausea, Sweating, Necrosis combo! Such tactics won't have quite the same impact once the rest of the gameplay is unlocked though :P
In August, we will be beginning proper gameplay testing and also expanding the number of players in the beta. Keep an eye out for emails in case you are selected!
Unrelated to multiplayer but in the next week - we are aiming to push out a minor update to the game which contains a number of bug fixes for single player as well as adding in Korean language support. We are also working on a tutorial to help new players begin to infect the world - more details to come on that shortly!
