Evolution 18 - Parasite, Fungus and Steam Controller come out to play!

Even though Plague Inc: Evolved has left Early Access, it continues to evolve and add new, exciting gameplay! With this evolution we have 2 new multiplayer disease types for you - Fungus and Parasite - as well as several new Multiplayer genes. On top of this, we have also added Steam controller support, once again increasing the different ways to play Plague Inc :)

Here is a summary of the main features:

  • Fungus Multiplayer disease type - As ever, the fungus will find it hard to travel long distances, even by unscheduled flight. However the regular spores will give you a brand new mechanism to help you spread around the globe. This fungus is much happier in humid climates too...
  • Parasite Multiplayer disease type - The Parasite has a parasitic(!) approach to DNA collection, with the ability to harvest DNA from your opponent's corpses. However, your severity will increase as your opponent evolves so it won't be long before humans are out to cure you.
  • Steam Controller Support - We have now added the official Ndemic-designed Steam controller support. Our configuration ensures that you can play Plague Inc: Evolved as happily with the Steam controller as you can with mouse and keyboard!
  • New Multiplayer Genes - 5 new Multiplayer genes will allow you to customise your plague to suit your strategies even more. Think you can find their starting country quickly? Use the "Search and Destroy" gene! Want to mutate Transmissions and Abilities? Use the "Base Hydration" gene! Want more detail about where your opponent is? Use the "Peekaboo" gene! But remember, as ever, all these genes have a downside...

We'll have more updates to come over the next few months. We have more Multiplayer disease types in the pipeline, as well as some single player ones as well. We've also got plans for improvements to the Scenario Creator, as well as an engine upgrade (which will allow us to keep releasing new content in the future). Basically, there's still much more to come from Plague Inc: Evolved, so do keep an eye out ;)

Full Change Log:
New Additions
  • New Multiplayer Disease Types - Fungus and Parasite!
  • 5 brand new genes for use in Multiplayer
  • Steam Controller compatibility added. Works in every game mode!
Tweaks
  • Improvements to the Benign Mimic ability in VS mode - massively increasing its effectiveness if placed in the same country repeatedly and making it easier to get a foothold in a benign mimiced country
  • Leaderboards and statistics tweaks
  • New DLLs added, to resolve the issue where a handful of users were having difficulties launching the game
  • Expanded hit box on smaller islands for ease of selection
  • Minor text and graphical tweaks
Fixes
  • Z-Com spawn issue fixed
  • Worm Food and Assuming Direct Control achievements should be working correctly now

About This Game

Plague Inc: Evolved is a unique mix of high strategy and terrifyingly realistic simulation. Your pathogen has just infected 'Patient Zero' - now you must bring about the end of human history by evolving a deadly, global Plague whilst adapting against everything humanity can do to defend itself.

Plague Inc. is so realistic that the CDC even asked the developer to come and speak about the infection models in the game! http://blogs.cdc.gov/publichealthmatters/2013/04/plague-inc/.

Over 65 million players have been infected by Plague Inc. already. Now, Plague Inc: Evolved combines the original critically acclaimed gameplay with significant, all-new features for PC including multiplayer, user-generated content support, improved graphics and lots more.

  • 10 Different Disease Types – Master every pathogen; from bacteria to bio-weapons and mind control to zombies, end humanity by any means possible – different diseases will need radically different approaches.
  • 20 Unique Scenarios – Adapt your strategy; scenarios create further challenges for your pandemic – how will you handle a new strain of Swine Flu, or infect a world in Ice Age?
  • Hyper-Realistic World – Strategize in the real world; advanced AI and use of real-world data and events make Plague Inc: Evolved a highly authentic simulation of a world-ending pathogen. Even the CDC likes it!
  • Competitive Multiplayer - The world is unlucky enough to be infected with two plagues, but how will you win the battle for genetic dominance against your opponent? Players get all new evolutions, abilities and genes to help them fight for global control and destroy their opponent!
  • Co-Operative Mode - Two different diseases team up to infect and destroy the world together but Humanity has new tricks up its sleeve to fight back! Work closely with your partner and use brand-new genes, traits and strategies to smash cure labs all over the world before they eradicate you.
  • Contagious Content Creator - Hit the lab and develop your own custom scenarios - creating new plague types, worlds and in-game events. Sophisticated tools support user-generated content to let players bring their deadliest ideas to life and share them on Steam Workshop. With over 10,000 custom scenarios already released - there is always something new to infect!
  • Blinding Graphics - Full 3D disease models take you closer to your plague than ever before, city-cams show humanity's struggle at street level, and the body scanner highlights the full effect of your mutations, organ by organ.
  • Deadly Data - Geek out with stats and graphs; monitor infection and death levels, track government reactions and cure efforts, then review your plague's success (or failure!) with full game replays.
  • And much more... - Including speed runs, Mega-Brutal difficulty and genetic modification... Plus loads of new disease types and scenarios in future (free!) updates.

Really love this game! Think co-op can do better by matching you with equals but really love the co-op too. Every game is different and every starting point is too. I have a gene that chooses my starting country for me when I play co-op, which makes every game a suprise and not just the same strategy over and over again. I would recommend this game to others because it really is a great game and you can also play it when you have like 20 minutes left before you have to leave or something. I like it.

Really good game, well worth its cost.
I've had lots of fun with this, especially while playing almost each plaque type. Even though there are some harder plaques most of them are fairly easy to complete on normal.
I personally had most problems with nano-virus. Also I recommend coop, its really fun and exciting especially if both players play with completely different strategies.
Only bad thing is that you need to complete this game about 50 times in order to unlock everything.

Wonderful time waster that's not too complicated to get into for short bursts then drop immediatly after. However it's also easy to invest quite a bit of time into this to try and erradicate the world with all the ugly, disgusting plagues you can manifest.

I've been playing Plague Inc, Evolved since back in the Android days when it was simply Plague Inc. If you like a game that causes you to have to think for yourself, plan strategy, take real-world events and their repercussions into your game-play strategy and react to them - then you'll love Plague Inc, Evolved. And for those of you who are, like me, achievement oriented...there's a whole big long list of things (currently at 142!) that you can achieve through all different levels of the game - some in which you have absolutely no control over the underlying circumstances that set up the scenario for the achievement! I'm not a true gamer compared to many on Steam and elsewhere. I'm just someone who enjoys a challenge - and I found this game to be exactly what I had been searching for. Give it a try if my description sounds like something you might enjoy. Oh - and now you have the ability to create your very own plague and destroy the world using your own imagination as well! What more could you possibly ask for??

I was only 7 years old
I prayed to Fungus every night
My dad called me a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and hit me
I called him a ♥♥♥♥
He sent me to my room
I was in my room and I heard a woosh
I smelled mushrooms
Fungus said to me
"It's all mushrooms now"
He filled my but with his spores

Plaque Inc. Is a game that finally let's you live out your fantasy of being the best mad scientist in existence. Let me tell you, there's nothing more satisfying then making the perfect disease and then watching each and every country and continent go dark red with death as all of it's populace succumbs to the most painful and terrifying deaths imaginable. See how desperately the little ants will try to survive, and then laugh at them as you ruin their efforts and destroy their hope. Show them what just one little microscopic organism can do and remind the haughty humans just where their true place in nature is. Masturbate to... no, I haven't been taking my meds, why do you ask?

TL;DR: Very fun but somewhat limited replayability

The co op and versus modes fix that to a certain degree, because your opponent's strategy significantly affects your experience of the game. It also helps that it takes a while to unlock all of the different types of plagues. The news headlines are amusing. I like to read those while I'm waiting to get more DNA points. Oh yeah, sometimes it can take multiple minutes to save up points, especially early-game when you haven't infected very many people yet. Also, as a pedantic person it bothers me that you can become "antibiotic-resistant" as a virus. The game obviously isn't supposed to be scientifically sound, considering it contains zombie viruses, so I'll let that one slide.

...I always feel slightly guilty when I win a game, too.

play it. destroy humanity. live out your wildest dreams! the scenarios are pretty cool, the gameplay can be fast paced, but you can also keep it chill if you want a more casual experience - and, lets be real, who hasnt spent their entire childhood dreaming of bringing about the end of humanity through a disease you have personally concocted?

10/10, would end humanity's existence again.
