Evolution 20 - Multiplayer balance update

Hey everyone

We have just released a new multiplayer balance update for Plague Inc: Evolved which addresses some of the feedback we have been getting from players. Fans of viruses and parasite will be particularly excited by this!

  • Parasite tweak - Parasitic DNA theft buffed - parasite now steals 45% of opponent's DNA, up from 40%. Remember, your severity will increase as your opponent evolves so it won't be long before humans are out to cure you!
  • Virus tweak - We found that the virus was devolving too often to get much use in competitive play. We have reduced the chance of devolving to 12% (from 14%) and also made it 5% harder to cure
  • Bioweapon tweak - Bioweapon continues to be one of the more popular disease types in VS mode - we are making it 5% easier to cure to prevent it becoming too dominant.
  • Benign Mimic tweak - One of the most popular active abilities in VS mode - we are making a few changes to its duration and impact to ensure that other strategies have enough room to breathe. Will keep an eye on this and see if more action is needed.

We are hard at work on a new disease type for Plague Inc. at the moment - will share more information on it soon!

Also - it is still possible to make a late pledge for Plague Inc: The Board Game here: https://plague-inc.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

Full Change Log:

MP VS mode balance changes
  • Bioweapon ~5% easier to cure
  • Virus ~5% harder to cure
  • Virus devolve chance now reduced to 12% from 14%
  • Parasite now steals 45% of DNA, up from 40%
  • Benign Mimic lasts 5 days longer
  • Benign Mimic starts slower and increases in strength over time
  • Daily cure impact of an individual benign mimic now capped (at ~5% of total cure requirement)
  • If immune shock used in a country without opponent - has lesser impact on infectivity
Bug fix
  • Fixed Edge case on publish for Scenario Creator
  • Minor Load/Save Fix

About This Game

Plague Inc: Evolved is a unique mix of high strategy and terrifyingly realistic simulation. Your pathogen has just infected 'Patient Zero' - now you must bring about the end of human history by evolving a deadly, global Plague whilst adapting against everything humanity can do to defend itself.

Plague Inc. is so realistic that the CDC even asked the developer to come and speak about the infection models in the game! http://blogs.cdc.gov/publichealthmatters/2013/04/plague-inc/.

Over 65 million players have been infected by Plague Inc. already. Now, Plague Inc: Evolved combines the original critically acclaimed gameplay with significant, all-new features for PC including multiplayer, user-generated content support, improved graphics and lots more.

  • 10 Different Disease Types – Master every pathogen; from bacteria to bio-weapons and mind control to zombies, end humanity by any means possible – different diseases will need radically different approaches.
  • 20 Unique Scenarios – Adapt your strategy; scenarios create further challenges for your pandemic – how will you handle a new strain of Swine Flu, or infect a world in Ice Age?
  • Hyper-Realistic World – Strategize in the real world; advanced AI and use of real-world data and events make Plague Inc: Evolved a highly authentic simulation of a world-ending pathogen. Even the CDC likes it!
  • Competitive Multiplayer - The world is unlucky enough to be infected with two plagues, but how will you win the battle for genetic dominance against your opponent? Players get all new evolutions, abilities and genes to help them fight for global control and destroy their opponent!
  • Co-Operative Mode - Two different diseases team up to infect and destroy the world together but Humanity has new tricks up its sleeve to fight back! Work closely with your partner and use brand-new genes, traits and strategies to smash cure labs all over the world before they eradicate you.
  • Contagious Content Creator - Hit the lab and develop your own custom scenarios - creating new plague types, worlds and in-game events. Sophisticated tools support user-generated content to let players bring their deadliest ideas to life and share them on Steam Workshop. With over 10,000 custom scenarios already released - there is always something new to infect!
  • Blinding Graphics - Full 3D disease models take you closer to your plague than ever before, city-cams show humanity's struggle at street level, and the body scanner highlights the full effect of your mutations, organ by organ.
  • Deadly Data - Geek out with stats and graphs; monitor infection and death levels, track government reactions and cure efforts, then review your plague's success (or failure!) with full game replays.
  • And much more... - Including speed runs, Mega-Brutal difficulty and genetic modification... Plus loads of new disease types and scenarios in future (free!) updates.

I still don't really understand the nuances of this game, but nothing makes you feel better than destroying the world with diarhea and vomiting. Buy it on sale though.

- awesome developers
- fast and updates with new diseases and game modes
- don't get put off by the pricetag because you WILL get your moneys worth

This game is insanely fun, singleplayer alone will keep you busy for many hours, in addition to that there are endless custom scenarios made by the community and the developers.
And in my opinion the game really shines when it comes to Multiplayer. VS mode will keep you playing until you evolve the best strategy. Co-op changes the gameplay up by a lot, and even after your disease is cured you can still help your partner to infect the rest of the world.

There really is no reason i can think of to not buy this game.
You'll get what you payed for and more.

Decent game. Good enough to kill a few hours with, but not good enough to spend several hundreds of hours on. It gets a little repetetive since there are not a lot of different strategies to work with. You can change a few things along the way, but it's always "Spread the virus first, then focus on killing everybody". I'll rate this 5/10.

NOTE: THIS GAME WILL MAKE YOU QUESTION YOUR MORALS AS A HUMAN BEING

Dear Valve Services:

I’m writing this letter to complain about the game Plague lnc:Evolved and demand a full refund.

I looking forward to getting a surprise. After buying this game, however, I found it awful to play---Maybe it’s not my type, maybe I am too fastidious, but I really dislike it from the bottom of my heart! It is a non-entertaining game for me that I can’t enjoy it at all!

I hope I can get my money back and use it into some more meaningful things like charity. I’m sorry to trouble you, but I’m writing the letter sincerely for my refund.

At last, I would be appreciate if you can return my deal and my money to my steam wallet

In this game you will:
-Destroy humanity with various disease types
-Destroy humanity in different scenarios
-Give your disease a ridiculus and a very stupid name
-Question your sanity
-Hate every island in the world
-Scream in suffering when an uninfected Greenland closes it's only port
-Scream in joy when you somehow infect a portless Greenland

Overall:
9/10 Not enough Greenland

SUITABLE QUOTE
#Discussions_QuoteBlock_Author
The death of one is a tragedy. The death of millions is just a statistic.

GENRE

Strategy, Simulation, Sandbox

DIFFICULTY

Adjustable: Ranges from pretty easy to more or less impossible to win.

GOOD

+ unique and interesting idea
+ morbid sense of humor
+ amount of content
+ well designed menus
+ funny pop-ups
+ Necroa-Virus and ALZ-113 (offer more strategical elements and depth)
+ some funny and interesting scenarios
+ scenario editor and workshop-support
+ easy and convenient handling

AVERAGE

~ no real evidence for asserted realism and complexity
~ multiplayer-mode (I've not tested yet)

BAD

- sometimes unbalanced
- in a few matches some bugs appeared
- poor music and sound (luckily I have a Spotify-Account)
- many invisible and poorly explained game mechanics
- actually superficial, clinical and repetitive gameplay
- emotionless (didn't feel anything about clicking humankind to hell and total annihilation just appears as a Pop-Up)
- gameplay mechanisms contain possible dead-ends (this is why Greenland is mentioned that often here)

PRICE-PERFORMANCE RATIO: ~

CONCLUSION

Thinking of the quotation above I have to say Plague Inc. Evolved takes that pretty literally! For several hours it's an entertaining game with an interesting premise. But the game keeps that totally vague and abstract. Malicious tongues might reproach Plage Inc. Evolved for being little more than a well-desgined Excel-Sheet. To experiment with the variables is the only real fun-factor of the game. No more, no less. Just enough for a withdrawn recommendation.

Score – 8/10 (Pretty Good)

It's hard to fault Plague Inc: Evolved since it does so many things right: the game gives you the opportunity to be the stereotypical, evil mad scientist, hell-bent on destroying humanity and while this can be a challenge to do (especially on higher difficulty levels or if you're going for Greenland – friggin' Greenland…) it's quite easy to grasp the basics of spreading your virus/bacteria and evolving it. Add Steam achievements, trading cards, multiplayer (co-op and competitive), leaderboards and the ability to make your own mods, and you've got yourself a great value-for-money game that should keep you entertained for a long time.

Can you infect the world?

Plague Inc is a unique sandbox/strategy/simulation game in which you'll be able to play up to 8 different types of deadly diseases with one main goal: To infect and kill every single person in the world. Sounds morbid? Well, it surely is!

Upon launching a match you'll first get to choose the disease you want to play - you'll also get to choose one of four difficulty levels - the least one being really though - even for long term players. After this you'll skip to a map of the earth and here you'll get to choose a starting country and from there on you gotta use the skill system (3 skill trees which differ - depending on your disease - all of them using DNA which you'll gather during the match) to overcome the obstacles which the game will throw at you. You'll develop more efficient transmission/resistance abilities to spread further and infect more people - as well as symptoms to spread and later to kill. The setup is very realistic, with a ton of countries, climate zones and random events to make every match you play unique. Note that every match is 45 minutes to 2h long - depending on how you're playing. You're able to save and revisit your match at any given point.

At first you'll only able to play as bacteria but upon winning a match you'll unlock the next disease-type. You'll also unlock genes to modify your diseases to make them more resistant to their environment and to generally strengthen them (this enables possibilities to differ in strategies and YES, there IS a zombie disease ).

I should mention that there aren't any graphics aside of the skilltrees and the map on which planes and ships are moving around and infection bubbles popping up - but those are enough to make it an entangling and fun game. The soundtrack is very good - and there are sometimes sligth noises like coughing or children playing depending on which far your disease has spread. In the end everything is silent - a pretty sinister and strong impression if you'd ask me!

I should also mention that there is a enjoyable multiplayer with PvP and Co-op and a scenario creator as well as tons of archievements and scenarios - most of them for more experienced players!

This game is extremely fun despite having such a scary background and I really recommend it to you if you're interested in diseases and tactical simulations with much freedom and many ways to approach your goal!
