Kingdom Rush is absolutely nice. With beautiful natured charm.
there are 4 basic towers. arrow towers, magic towers, artillery towers and defense towers.
After a few upgrades, you can choose between two specialized towers, and each of those specializations has further upgrades and customizations.
Your towers and abilities can receive permanent upgrades. upgrades are purchased at the cost of the stars you earn from completing levels.
you can choose difficulty, passive upgrades, and a couple bonus game modes per map.
Each map is perfectly balanced to present a very hard challenge while never feeling unfair.
It's a game that teaches you how to win, level after level.
kingdom rush is an classic and 2012 best of lists.

one of the best tower defense games!

I recently started playing this game and have found myself going to bed and dozing off thinking about this game while planning how to build better for my next map. The game can get intense and by that I mean am spamming all over the place so I do not leak, my hand spasms and I leak only to start swearing and restart the map! I have even woken up at 4am in the morning to play this game and pick up where I left off.

What I like the most about this game is how simple it is yet difficult. What do I mean by that? The basics of building but knowing the best spots and when to upgrade are key points. Position is also another key factor but what also keeps me hooked is the cute and detailed visuals of this game. I can't fully take this game serious when its this cute but neither do I want to continue on to the next map with only 2 stars lol

I would recommend this game for the casual gamer who is looking to pass time. You might lose track of time but that just means you are having fun right? Catch this game on sale for half the price on some sites or just buy it off steam because either way its worth the $10 bucks. I def see myself trying to complete this game and having many more clutch moments in this game hehe

I am quite fond of these games on Kongregate and similar sites...

And that is at the same time my pet peeve.

Kingdom Rush is one of those better and ejoyable flash games, and it's free.

So how does it compute to 9 Euros on Steam?

Frankly, it does not - It is the exact same game. No added features (that I can see from a quick look), the introduction level is exactly the same, the mechanics, everything.

On the plus side, it runs flawlessly, whereas Flash Games are notorious for frame skipping and overall stuttery performance - after all, Flash was originally more or less a platform for animated advertising, not gaming.

Being able to have the game run smoothly on fullscreen is very nice.
Still, 9 Euros. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend it at this price.

The game itself is a total blast, even challenging, also I just love Tower Defense games, and this is one of the more interesting ones.

So, it's really up to you to dish out that kind of money for a game you can play for free off Steam.

In fact, I suggest playing it on Kongregate or any other site that hosts the original version - see it as a complete, windowed Demo, to determine if you are OK with the price.

TL:DR
9 Euros for a game you can play for free is a joke.
However, the game is just that good, I would gladly pay 5 for the smoother, fullscreen gameplay you get with this Steam version.
Play the free version - if it grabs you, you may have found a very, very enjoyable Tower Defense game at "entry level", meaning the mechanics are quite simple to get in to, not too overwhelming for newbies to the genre, while at the same time challenging and interesting.

Torn between my love for TD games, and Kingdom Rush specifically, and the fact that this is more or less the exact same version that is available anywhere for free, I still have to give "Thumbs Up".

Tower Defense is one of my favorite genres, and in my mind, nothing will ever beat Gemcraft, but Kingdom Rush is a very, very close second. There really isn't much to complain about here other than difficulty, but if you're asking me, it's a total plus. The main campaign maps are great and challenging and most people should be able to get through them, but the true test comes after you've completed them. The bonus content is phenomenal. There's more to winning than just sticking towers on the map. You must strategize, realize what types of enemies are coming from where and place your defenses accordingly - and sometimes, that isn't even enough. I can't praise the devs enough for their effort in this department. I've only got a few achievements left to grab, but I've enjoyed this game the entire way. Looked forward to more from these guys!

Casual tower defense game with great graphic and distinct units and heroes.

+Cute and nice graphic
+Distinct towers with upgrades
+Different advanced towers to choose
+Unique heroes to help defense
+Tech tree to further upgrade towers or skills
+Lots of map with different designs and challenges

-Short and ordinary story
-Too many skill points, lots of points left after all tech trees are fully upgraded

Nice and easy to play. Heroes and towers are quite balanced so that you still have things to do while towers are slashing enemies!

Grapics:
-Not pixelated
-Oldish
7/10

Sound/Music:
-Music is fricking awesome
-Phrases for towers and heros get old quick
8/10

Combat:
-Tower Defense is my favorite kind of combat and is done well for the game
-The heros is a good add to the game making it not easier to beat the level, but interesting
-However the heros lack character, they seem like the same generic character, the only difference is stats and look, which is all you really need, but still.
-The upgrades for each tower are great. Once you level them up to 3, you have a choice between to upgrading paths, and they have different abilities.
-The towers are, Barracks, Archer Tower, Dwarven Bombard, and Mage Tower and they work very well, even though there's only 4 different towers, they play it off very well.
8.5/10

Difficulty:
-It can be very hard at times, never in the beginning but once you beat the campaign and get additional levels, those are very hard
-The villians are strange, some are harder to beat than others, but why do some of the easier ones come up later in the game? Like the Giant Rats, they are easy and the Skeletons are harder to beat, yet it takes a couple more levels to get to
7/10

Story:
-The story is that there's this bad guy who wants the kingdom and you have to stop his forces using the king's, at one point you get to use the king to win the main campaign.
-It's not that important to know the story but it's still informational
8/10

The rating for this game is a 7.7/10, I would definitly reccomend this to anyone that wants a good game for a long car ride, or just a good old tower defense game.

Hmmm...where to start on my first review? Well let's start by saying Kingdom Rush is genuinely one of the most addictive, fun and somewhat challenging Tower defense games around. At first glance the cartoony visuals, vibrant music and set place building positions give off a casual vibe. Whilst the original campaign is not all that challenging and seems more like a warm up! The real test comes in the excellent after campaign missions. As well as expanding on the universe and adding some back story the after campaign missions provide new enemies, boss fights and new level layouts. These new missions provide a lot more challengethan the standard campaign and thats where the game really starts to shine. Careless tower placement can cause even the most expensive set up to fail which will see the hordes of enemies running right through you.

In short Kingdsom Rush provides an excellent alernative to the likes of Pixeljunk Monsters. It may not be the deepest Tower Defense game on the market but in terms of addictveness it's hard not to place this game near the top.

It's just as fun as it was years and years ago as a flash game. The difficulty spike after the main story, in the side missions, allows players that want a challenge something more to do. Buy it on sale and enjoy it

This ipad port comes without the repulsive microtransactions and instead delivers the best tower defense experience since Plants vs Zombies. Free DLC, numerous tower upgrades, scores of different strategies, nostalgic movie one-liners, tons of achievements, 3 difficulty levels (Casual, Medium and Hard), 3 different ways to play each level (Battle mode, Iron and Heroic) and the ability to morph enemies into Sheep.

got this from the Android Humble Bundle, much fun to play, discovering tacticts, what towers work best...ant then doing it again on hardmode :D

also, leveling up your hero and improving towers/skills in some sort of skill tree.

I love the comic-style of this game and the catchy music, definately a recommendation, but maybe not for the tower-defense hardcore fans. I as a more or less total noob in td finished the game quite easy. after I finished the game and all achievements, i kinda lost the motivation, there is no endless wave level...

nice and fun game to play, but i guess kinda casual :)

This game is really fun and challenging for everyone who likes towerdefence games...
There is the main campaign (kill the evil wizard), once you finish that one you will unlock 3 other campaigns which are harder and even more fun!

I've played a lot of TD games... but this one is without question my favorite.

Pros:
- funny, cartoonish art
- good story/good gameplay
- lots of levels and the levels get harder
- upgrades! (you can get stars on levels = upgrade points)
- every level has challenge modes
- every tower has unique abilities
- awesome heroes that will help you

Cons:
- some levels will take some time to complete (no speed up button)
- addictive... not sure if this is bad :P

I played the free Flash version of this game several times and when the full version came to Steam, I got exicted.
The full version has far more gameplay and if you never played it before, the Flash is a perfect way to try it out.

If you enjoy Tower Defense, interesting art style, funny gameplay, then this game is for you.

Great game, can be a little difficult at times. A Classic TD you need to have if you love the TD genre.
Great Cartoony feel and a bit of comedy on the side.

For those achievement hunters, achievements are easy to moderate but are worth the playtime.
This being said, I enjoyed these as some are the games easter eggs.

GOOD GAME: 8/8 m8

I've played a few tower defense games in the past, all of them only briefly, but never found one that really hooked me. I picked this up for next to nothing at the summer sale, only hoping that it would hold my interest long enough to collect the cards.

Now I'm about 20 hours in, and I love it.

I'm not experienced enough with TD's to say how this is different, or better, but it surely has something. Kingdom Rush has made me a tower defense fan, and for the dollar or whatever that I paid for it vs the time invested thus far, it's probably the best money I spent at the sale this summer.

One of the besat indie games I have ever played and I highly reccomend it to anybody who loves tower deffence games or is just looking for a fun game that they can pick up and play for a long time. I also reccomend it to people like me who play alot of shooting games, it can realy relax you after a day of non stop action. And to no point am I saying it does not have action it just might give you a diffrent kind of thrill.

A very nice tower defense game. Each level is interesting and requires it's own tactics to beat.
The only downside is the fact that kingdom rush has zero replayability. Once you've beaten the game that's it.
