With the new Kingdom Rush: Frontiers being released and me having completed the original campaign I decided to write a review.

Kingdom rush is a big part of my childhood and teenage years. I remember playing the flash version when it first came out, and I have completed this original Kingdom Rush about 10 times with flash, mobile and Steam. I have also completed Frontiers about 5 times and Origins 3.

What is the game about? Well, you need to strategize your limited amount of towers on the different maps so no enemies get to the end. Different towers and enemies (and heroes) have all different abilities, so you need to be careful with your upgrades.

The Steam version of KR does lack the endless modes and the "item bag" of the mobile versions, but hey, we don´t need cheats here don´t we ;)? I would have enjoyed this game much more if they added the endless though.

So yes, buy this game even if you have played the mobile/flash versions, it´s gonna be worth your money and time. Also consider buying Frontiers, who knows, if that goes succesful we might get Origins on Steam too. ;)

Really glad to see this game hit Steam :) loved it on Android (along with the other Kingdom Rush games) and it's just as fun on PC. All the microtransaction stuff you'd have had to pay for on mobile is included in the game too and so is the horribly cheesy humor :p Would definitely buy the other games if they were also released here!

A great casual game with a fair amount of depth and challenge. The first chunk of the game is pretty easy to learn and easy to win. But, once you approach the latter levels in the game, it get's really hard and it could take hours to beat one level after multiple attempts. It's good to see casual games give that level of difficulty without becoming overly difficult. The game requires a good amount of skill and long term planning to be successful. Also, there's a fair amount of content available here. You could easily put in 15-30 hours before you're ready to move on to another title. Throw on a podcast and get busy slaying demons and orcs. 7/10

Curator Review:

This Tower Defense game breathes new life to the old genre. Control yourself in a wide variety of games and try to come up with a winning strategy as the game attempts to break through your defenses and crush your spirit. This game gets difficult quick so I hope you are a quick learner. For only $10, this game is totally worth it and you can definitely sink some hours into it. 7.5/10

This game never gets old. I beat it on my phone, now I am redoing it for the PC. One of my most favourite tower defense games. The bosses are a whole lot of fun as well. Definitely a must have :)

Most Tower Defenses (and a lot of other genres, really) can be easily slotted into one of two categories: Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Defense Grid was probably the definitive example of the former, while Kingdom Rush is one for the latter. The evil overlord Vez'nan has summoned a horde of evil to conquer the land, ranging from simple goblins and bandits to the legions of hell. You're a nameless commander that has to take charge of the kingdom's forces to fight them all off.

It's a bit simplified compared to Defense Grid, especially at first. Enemies are trying to get to the end of the map, and travel on paths you can't alter. You also only have four main towers: Archers which shoot quickly for low damage and are good against enemies resistant to magic, Mages which shot slower for larger damage and can pierce armor, Barracks that release units who block and attack ground enemies, and Bombarders which deal area damage. As you go through the game though, you unlock two unique upgrades to each you can select after their third level. Archers for example, can become Rangers, which shoot even quicker and can be upgraded to poison and paralyze enemies, or Musketeers, which trade speed for better damage, minor area damage, and a chance to kill any enemy in one shot. A lot of combinations of them are quite useful.

The game gives you plenty of chances to see that, too, as in addition to the usual three stars for doing them perfect each level has a Heroic and Iron mode, which reward one each. Heroic restricts you to a certain level of the general upgrades (which you get by paying stars) and typically disallows the Hero units, while giving you only one life for the whole stage. Iron takes it a step further by restricting your towers, and having enemies come in one continuous wave. These range from simple, to tricky, to quite difficult.

I should note that this is one game you can technically get for free on Kongregate, or on mobile. The Steam port just contains everything that's Premium Content in those versions, and apparently at a lower cost; this includes a number of stages unlocked after the main campaign, and a few hero units you wouldn't get ordinarily. I got it for two-fifty a few Steam Sales back, which seems more than fair to me (plus there's also a current bundle where you can get it for barely more), but you could use those free versions to see if it's the kind of game you'd throw money at to own. It doesn't have quite as much content as Defense Grid, but there's still a lot of fun to be had.

This is one of the best tower defense games ever. The graphics are beautiful, the heroes are really cool and can help a lot during the game.

I first played KR in the flash version and since then I bought the iOS and Steam versions.

For sure, one of mine all-time favorite!

As of right now I am the biggest smurf of all time, I played this game since the sunray tower was a thing. Do you know what that is? I know waht the sunray tower is. I have about 6 hours in the official pc port so far but I already have all the levels beat 3 stars on normal first try and all but 2 are beat on heroic. Can't wait to beat the entire game.

This game is a classic. I highly recommended DURING A SALE though.
I mean its a classic ok, but damn, 10euros? I used to play this for free back on the flash games days.

This tower defense game is my life (just kidding). This game is gorgeous and better on the pc than mobile :P. There is no cons to the game honsetly. Now that Ironhide Games is making their second game on steam, Kingdom Rush Frontiers, this game is still fun. There is only 4 basic and classis towers, such as archers, barracks, mages, and bombards. They four have pros and cons, archers deal physical armour and they shoot fast but do very minimal damage. The barracks sets out 3 troops, I usually use them just to stall enemies, but you guys might use them in a different way. The mages have a very low firing rate, but they do critical amounts of damage that can tear enemies that have high physical armour. And then the bombards fire out bombs that explode and can do area damage, which can take out small low health enemies. The towers have 3 basic upgrades, then you can buy their 2 different special upgrade, for example the 2 archer's special upgrade is the rangers and then the musketeers.

Then there are 12 choosable heroes that have 2 special abiliites. Each 12 heroes have the pros and cons as well.

The Steam version of Kingdom Rush has no in-app-purchases, better graphics and resolution, cloud saves as well. This is review is for those people who haven't even heard of Kingdom Rush.

Thank you Ironhide Games for making Kingdom Rush both on mobile and on Steam. :)
