Patch Notes for Paranormal Patch #7 (UE4 ALPHA V001)

Patch #7 - 7/4/15

A lot of time has passed since the last update. I have been working non-stop on Paranormal's Unreal Engine 4 remake. With this build available, I'm prepared to post updates MUCH more frequently. Please keep in mind that this is still a work-in-progress. Future updates will add more scares, more story, improvements for just about every aspect of the game, and performance optimizations.
Currently this build is only available for the Windows version of the game. The Mac version of this build has some issues I'm working on fixing. It'll be available as soon as possible.
This build requires a 64-bit OS. Windows XP isn't technically supported, but there may be workarounds that I am unaware of.
Remember, the Unreal Engine 4 remake update will be free to everyone who owns the game.

Added TONS of scares (more to come with each update).
Entire house and surrounding property is now explorable.
Improved HUD.
Added an in-game menu (more settings will be added in the future).
Added an intro scene (will be improved in future updates).
Fixed some attic clipping issues (still not perfect, but definitely improved).
Optimized meshes and lighting.
Added framerate limit choices.
Added custom resolution support.
Added ouija board.
Added cassette tape recorded logs (backstory stuff, will be expanded on).
Removed debug laser beam that showed up sometimes.
Improved weather effects.
Improved camera battery life (though no consequence for running out exists yet).
Added ability to get run over by a pickup truck.
Added a few mysteries in the woods.
Added randomized paintings around the property.
Fixed graphics and resolution settings not persisting between sessions.
Added first layer of tiered haunting system, which is the groundwork for making sure the pacing of the scares will be appropriate.
Added player model for sleeping sequences.
Fixed various glitches too numerous to list (will do better listing what I fix/add/remove/improve in the future).
Added subtitles for the intro scene (will eventually be toggleable).

What still needs to be done?
I have the story's plot and branches all planned out, but not implemented fully into the game yet. The game currently has no plot progression, aside from some backstory stuff and the intro scene. This will be changed in the future.
More scares. Way more scares. And more randomization, both big and small.
Performance optimizations.
More graphics and gameplay settings options.
Improved controller support.
More interaction with the environment.
And most importantly, whatever feedback all of you give me will help shape the game's future.

Paranormal is a 3D fully dynamic haunting experience. The player takes the role of Mattel Clark, an artist who has a haunted house. Mattel decides to film the hauntings with his camera, which is the viewpoint of the game.The player controls the camera as the hauntings slowly but surely escalate into something far worse and more horrific.

With multiple endings, a different experience every time, top-notch graphics and sound, Paranormal is a constantly evolving indie horror game.

Features

  • Dynamic Haunting: I've designed the dynamic haunting system that will allow a randomized experience, adding multiple outcomes, dynamic triggers, countless variables, and an action-reaction system. This will make your experience with the game much more unique and memorable, without missing out on anything important.
  • Free Content Updates: Paranormal will receive free content updates that add new locations, stories, scenarios, scares, gameplay mechanics, and more! You will NEVER have to pay for DLC in Paranormal. The game's content is planned to double or even triple with each major content update.
  • Sleep System: Sleeping in your bed recharges your camera's batteries and also has a chance of triggering other events.
  • Flashlight (camera light): Creates a bright, short ranged light that casts dynamic shadows.
  • Insane Sound Design: Paranormal was designed for surround sound and headphones to create the ultimate audio horror experience.
  • First-Person Camera (Found-footage style): Much like in the movies 'Paranormal Activity' or 'The Blair Witch Project' (Not associated with those films, just inspired by them), the viewpoint will be that of a camera being held by a person (the player). Effects like camera shake, pixelation, video distortion, audio distortion, and motion blur will all be present thanks to the camera screen-space shader I built for everything.
  • Horrific Story: Uncover the house's troubled and gruesome past through hauntings, journal entries from the previous owner, and more.
  • Steam Trading Cards: Because one can never have enough of those things!
  • Mac Version: A Mac version is available and will receive updates alongside the PC version.

Planned Future Features

  • Achievements: Steam Achievements are planned for the game and there will be plenty to chase after!
  • Full Controller Support: Work has already started on making the game fully gamepad-compatible.
  • Oculus Rift Support: As promised as a Kickstarter stretch goal, Paranormal will receive an Oculus Rift version, free to owners of the game.
  • Steam Cloud Saves: For those who hop between machines.
  • Translations: The game's text is planned to be translated into German, Swedish, and Spanish. If your language isn't on that list, please request it in the forums.
  • DirectX 11: For those of you who have powerful computers, DirectX 11 support is planned for the future and will make the game look and run even better!
  • Persistence: Some sort of persistent scoring system is planned, adding more replay value.

The only thing I ask (but don't require) is that you send me a link so I can watch it and share it! A healthy game community encourages shared experiences. So, before I get blasted or you decide to skip this game because of my no to reccommending this game, let me explain.

Paranormal is a good game, I enjoyed it, it was creepy, scary, it changes each time you play it but there is one reason I do not and will not reccomend this game to anyone and that is it's been in alpha for going on 3 years now, they were suppose to add a free DLC expansion to the game called "The Town" that they have yet to release and recently announced that they are instead re-doing the game in unreal engine 4, which sure looks nice, but has left alot of us feeling cheated.

We paid for a game that was in progress because it looked good and were under the impression that within a year, year in a half we'd have a bad ♥♥♥ survival horror game that was complete. 3 years later and we are sitting here scratching our heads asking why it hasn't delivered yet, the game as is, is only worth $5.00, you will get through it in about 20 minutes tops, 30-40 minutes if you search each nook and cranny. So as of right now, no I wouldn't reccomend this game, in the future if they ever do release a "completed" version, that might change, but only once its complete.

Paranormal will send chills down your spine and make you jump. If like me you like being scared witless then this is definately the game for you. I found the game atmospheric and thoroughly entertaining. Personally I didnt encounter any bugs or freezing whilst playing. The scares are different everytime you play the game. Prepare to be afraid. Very afraid.

This game is truely expectional in every sense of the word. I think that the glitchs in the game play that is the current version is frustrating at first I had issues logging in and had to improvis for a while. But the story how it only tells parts each play through makes it very addicting to say the lest. As soon as I beat it I had to play it five more times to figure out the whole story and fin all the trophies. On a side note Is the basement door intentionally glitchable? If you walk strait at the door it will block your path from the inside. But if your in the basement and walk backwards you can walk freely among the house and create more chacnes for trophies and event to be generated in a sort of force reset each time you walk into a new area. Also since you go into the basement and walk out you get unlimited battery life so instead of havign a feeling of urgency you can take your time and make the game engine work for you. But I thought maybe the door glitch and the unlimited time was a hint of a easter egg to show the next level or somethign hidden in a secret room? You had me walking backwards on the entire map for a while seeing if it was a tip or something, then i tried the rock and halo glitching items. But i didnt find any hidden room (if you hide one. ) this si truely the best game i played for far this year thank you for creating a very immersive game with all the right elements!
