Patch #4 - 4/12/14

Mac version of Paranormal is now available on Steam!
Removed the 'tapes' menu from the main menu.
Added temporary main menu fixes. (Use a 16:9 aspect ratio for best results)
Fixed several game-breaking glitches.
Added new story content via audiologs + phone calls.
Improved performance on AMD integrated graphics chips.
Fixed certain strange random crashes.
Decreased contrast greatly, giving a less severe lighting to the house.
Decreased brightness of the camera's torch.
Added a secret paranormal encounter you'll have to find for yourself.
More updates on the way!

ANNOUNCEMENT:
Paranormal is currently being ported to Unreal Engine 4. Without going too far into details, I can say that the reasons for the decision to port are the following:
Unreal Engine 4 offers superior performance, graphics, and compatibility.
It gives me the power to utilize new techniques for my scares that were inefficient in UDK.
UE4 will also allow more me to have more support, should I ever have a problem I can't handle on my own. I know it seems trivial, but sometimes even developers need help figuring certain things out.
Paranormal's Unreal Engine 4 port will be a free 'update' to the game, so you won't have to purchase it again. I stand by my declaration that every Paranormal DLC/Update/Expansion will be free to owners of the game.
Will it replace the current game? Technically, but I will make sure the current build is available to those who would hypothetically prefer it or those who feel like seeing what the game used to be like.
Regarding Paranormal's first announced major expansion, The Town...
Paranormal: The Town is also being ported to Unreal Engine 4, for all the same reasons I mentioned above.
But when can we expect to play the Unreal Engine 4 port of Paranormal?
Well, basically remaking an entire game takes time, but I intend to make it playable as soon as I feel I have the bare minimum amount of content ready for you all to play, test, and experience.
Until the port is released, I will continue to patch the current game. I will not abandon it.

It's difficult for me to speak of this, but in January 2014 I learned of the passing of my dear friend, Richard Skepp (DJ Morfar), the voice of Paranormal's DJ Poltergeist. I owe so much to him and I value his friendship deeply. He will always be part of the Paranormal family.

Paranormal is a 3D fully dynamic haunting experience. The player takes the role of Mattel Clark, an artist who has a haunted house. Mattel decides to film the hauntings with his camera, which is the viewpoint of the game.The player controls the camera as the hauntings slowly but surely escalate into something far worse and more horrific.

With multiple endings, a different experience every time, top-notch graphics and sound, Paranormal is a constantly evolving indie horror game.

Features

  • Dynamic Haunting: I've designed the dynamic haunting system that will allow a randomized experience, adding multiple outcomes, dynamic triggers, countless variables, and an action-reaction system. This will make your experience with the game much more unique and memorable, without missing out on anything important.
  • Free Content Updates: Paranormal will receive free content updates that add new locations, stories, scenarios, scares, gameplay mechanics, and more! You will NEVER have to pay for DLC in Paranormal. The game's content is planned to double or even triple with each major content update.
  • Sleep System: Sleeping in your bed recharges your camera's batteries and also has a chance of triggering other events.
  • Flashlight (camera light): Creates a bright, short ranged light that casts dynamic shadows.
  • Insane Sound Design: Paranormal was designed for surround sound and headphones to create the ultimate audio horror experience.
  • First-Person Camera (Found-footage style): Much like in the movies 'Paranormal Activity' or 'The Blair Witch Project' (Not associated with those films, just inspired by them), the viewpoint will be that of a camera being held by a person (the player). Effects like camera shake, pixelation, video distortion, audio distortion, and motion blur will all be present thanks to the camera screen-space shader I built for everything.
  • Horrific Story: Uncover the house's troubled and gruesome past through hauntings, journal entries from the previous owner, and more.
  • Steam Trading Cards: Because one can never have enough of those things!

Planned Future Features

  • Mac Version: In the next few months, a Mac version will be made available and will receive updates alongside the PC version.
  • Achievements: Steam Achievements are planned for the game and there will be plenty to chase after!
  • Full Controller Support: Work has already started on making the game fully gamepad-compatible.
  • Oculus Rift Support: As promised as a Kickstarter stretch goal, Paranormal will receive an Oculus Rift version, free to owners of the game.
  • Steam Cloud Saves: For those who hop between machines.
  • Translations: The game's text is planned to be translated into German, Swedish, and Spanish. If your language isn't on that list, please request it in the forums.
  • DirectX 11: For those of you who have powerful computers, DirectX 11 support is planned for the future and will make the game look and run even better!
  • Persistence: Some sort of persistent scoring system is planned, adding more replay value.

Posting Videos


All users have full permission to post videos of Paranormal to websites, monetize them, edit them, etc. In fact, I encourage this. The only thing I ask (but don't require) is that you send me a link so I can watch it and share it! A healthy game community encourages shared experiences. If your video gets flagged by YouTube for copyrighted content, Tweet me and I'll do everything in my power to help clear it up--even if I have to call YouTube.

First look,

Oke so i just bought the game today, just because i realy love Ghosley horror and dislike pure gore.
so this game attrackted me enough after reading all about it on the comunity hub.

At start up it had some little hick up's but after rebooting my system it started just fine.
even with the knowledge that this game is still under development, my first opinion about the game menu is that
1, why is it starting in windowed mode
2, it looks kind of extreme simplefied and should be more kind of smooth

than the game.

I just love this kind of game trough the eye of the camera. just wishing that there would be some night vision lenses or thermal/cold signature lenses
the idea of recharging batterie's while sleeping is great. please keep it like this .. perhaps some more creepy scene's during sleep works best like in the movie paranormal activitie. You could even let your character start sleepwalking and do some creepy stuff in front of the camera. like staring at the wall like a zombie and talk with creepy voice.
further on i hope to see some smoother graphics and perhaps some more stuff in the diffrent rooms. makeing it more like a house where someone could realy live.

I've played OUTLAST, DREADOUT and DAYLIGHT. All three have their scary moments. But PARANORMAL is by far the scariest game of them all. Get it. Got it. Good.

Early Access Review
When I first started playing Paranormal, I was instantly reminded of the Paranormal Activity film. You are the protaganist who is investigating the hauntings of his new residence using a camcorder. You have to walk around the house to pick up any unusual activity (believe me there is a lot!!!) and rest every now and again to "charge" the recorder. As you play through the game you are gradually introduced to the story of what had happened in the house with a host of jump scares to keep you busy. Playing this game alone and with headphones is highly recommended to get the full effect of the this ghost simulator and I can guarantee at least one spine tingling moment. It is a game where both the seen and unseen can play tricks with your mind.
