Articles

“DCS: A10C Warthog is a tremendously – and at times obscenely – demanding game. You will experience cranial overload, and you will, unless you're a devout ED disciple, curse the developer for being so damned cryptic. But for those who favor stepping into the shoes of a real pilot who flies but a single plane, and for those who are willing to commit fully to a program that may well take months to evolve, this is the current peak of the genre.”
8/10 – IGN

“DCS: A-10C Warthog isn’t for everyone—this is a simulation that demands dedication to reveal its true worth, and only those prepared to put in the time and effort to mine its treasure trove of avionics challenges will see that reward. The Hog is a relatively easy aircraft to fly, but doing so while battling armed forces with this brutally realistic weapons delivery platform is one of the most challenging—and intensely satisfying—undertakings you’ll ever face in a PC flight sim.”
92/100 – PC Gamer

À propos de ce contenu

DCS: A-10C Warthog is a PC simulation of the U.S. premier Close Air Support attack aircraft. This is the second aircraft in the DCS series, following DCS: Black Shark, and raises the bar even higher in the DCS series. Warthog brings the most realistic PC simulation of a modern fixed wing combat aircraft in regards to flight dynamics, avionics, sensors, and weapon systems. You also have the option to play Warthog in "Game" mode for a casual game experience. Fly missions in the Caucuses region of the Black Sea against and with a wide array of air, land and sea forces with new and improved intelligence. Create your own missions and campaigns with the included Mission and Campaign Editors, and fly with and against friends online using the included online game browser.

Key features:

  • Fly the A-10C “Warthog” in either realistic or game modes.
  • Fly missions in either Georgia and Russia.
  • Interactive training missions shallow the learning curve dramatically.
  • Rich campaigns and single missions included.
  • Multiplayer cooperative and head-to-head.
  • Feature-rich Mission and Campaign editors allow user created content.
  • The most realistic flight dynamics ever done for a PC simulation.
  • Huge array of land, air and sea units to flight along and against.
  • Ability to command ground forces during missions.
  • Fully interactive Forward Air Controller (FAC) that helps you find targets.

About DCS World

Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS World) is a free-to-play digital battlefield game, focusing on a military aircraft simulation. It includes a FREE TF-51D and an Su-25T attack aircraft and it is extensible through additional DCS DLC that can be purchased here on Steam.

DCS World includes a vast mission area of the Caucasus region that encompasses much of Georgia - the location of the 2008 conflict. Additionally, DCS World includes:

  • Powerful mission and campaign editors
  • Multiplayer
  • Massive inventory of air, land and sea combat units and weapons
  • Advanced AI
  • Fast mission generator
  • Dynamic weather and seasons
  • Training missions
  • Mission replay system
  • Pilot log book
This all allows the creation of engaging, real-world combat missions in this flashpoint region. Words cannot describe how amazing this thing is. For those who afraid to buy it because it's hardcore and all, know this:
I've started getting into sims not too long ago, and was in for Space sims, wasn't at all concerned with plane sims at that point. For price reasons in my country, I've happened to get my hands on the holy grail of joysticks (HOTAS actually...), the Thrustmaster Warthog. When I've bought this amazing stick I knew back then that it's built to pair wonderfully with this sim, Though I was too afraid to buy this sim yet because I've thought it's too hardcore to be fun. So at the start I've played the space sims, Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen's alpha (that game actually made me buy the stick in the first place). Later on, mainly due to the shortage of simulation games fit for such a joystick, I've tried War Thunder. Only recently I've felt I cannot delay it any longer. So I've picked up this sim. And oh boy, I'm glad I did. I might end up knowing (theoretically of course) how to fly a jet. How awesome is that?? Besides, The game might be hardcore, but it isn't frustrating as I thought it will be. The learning of the plane systems is actually fun! I could go and destroy stuff with this plane's giant-♥♥♥ machine gun in 2 days! To summerize, this is really, really a well made sim, it isn't for beginners, true, but if you have at least some experience with controlling a flying vehicle in other games, this will be a very good addition. For the money you get a lot - 40$ for who-knows just how much time of just learning all the stuff, not to mention mastering and all... Gametime for money here is extremely good. And damn, the kills are so satisfying. Not because they're insanely hard, but because it feels so real. 11/10 I don't regret buying this for a split second.

WARNING: not for casual gamers. Serious sim content here.

Spent $50 when it was released as Beta

Years later, I only came to realise I spent about $2500 in sim gear.

Right now, CNC machine to be ordered... to start building the rest of the sim cockpit.

The A-10C module for DCS World comes second to none in its level of technical detail. Almost every single button, switch and dial serves a purpose in the plane. Among its incredibly complex avionics and weapons systems are even the most mundane of things, such as a switch to adjust your seat position, a canopy de-ice switch, and even a dial to turn on the air conditioning! In fact, the United States Air National Guard used a version of this module to train pilots who were transferring over from the A-10A.

A very important thing to keep in mind is that this is very much a study sim, in that learning how to fly the aircraft can take many, many hours of flipping through nearly 700 pages of its manual or watching youtube tutorials (I personally recommend doing the latter first). A serious HOTAS joystick and head-tracking software is highly recommended; I'd even go as far as to say it's necessary in order to get the most out of this module. Do not buy this expecting to be able to jump right away into a mission and BRRRRT your way through tank columns.

However, once you begin to get a grasp on how the plane works and how to utilize its myriad of weapons and avionics systems, you will end up with one of the most rewarding and satisfying experiences to be had in a flight simulator, maybe even gaming itself. I felt an almost drug-like high once I got my first air-to-ground kill with a maverick missile. Endless hours of fun are to be had with this module.

However, there are a few issues with this game that keep it from being my sim of choice. The biggest issue with this module, and this is an issue with every DCS module, is the complete lack of a dynamic campaign such as the one featured in Falcon 4.0. It is for this reason that Falcon BMS remains my go-to combat flight-sim. The second issue I have with this is its lackluster set of scenarios and pitiful campaign mode. Lastly, and this is a problem with all hardcore flight sims, is its barrier to entry. As previously stated in my review, you're going to need to throw down at least a few hundred US dollars just for the peripherals you need to play it. Flying with a Logitech 3D Pro and using the keyboard for all of your controls is really not going to work very well, and detracts from the experience.

Ultimately, this is a simulator not for the faint of heart, nor the empty of wallets. But for those sim-junkies out there, this is a must-buy, no exceptions.

Amazing flight Sim. Casual flight simmers need not apply...unless you are ready to step up your game. As noted by others this sim has a steep learning curve, so don't expect to be taking on the world within minutes of jumping in, you really do have to learn the plane...but once you do watch out! Decnet joystick and throttle a must.

When I was a little boy and first time saw the movie Top Gun I wanted to become a fighter pilot. Due to bad back I was never able to make it as a real life fighter pilot though, and ended up being a tank gunner instead. Since then I had kinda forgotten my ambition for fighter planes, until I started playing DCS. The warthog module especially has become a dream come true for me. The immersion is just unreal. You actually feel like flying a plane. I have since bought myself trackIR and Thrustmaster's warthog joystick to increase the experience and I just love this module even more.

Now all I wish someone would just make an F-14 module and my life is complete :D

Insanly detailed in every way, from A-10 model itself to the detail in it's handling.

This game is the apex of flight simulation and will probably end up spoiling you due to the level of detail.

It's perfect, but READ THE MANUAL. Otherwise, this game isn't for you. It's way too hardcore if you don't take the time to learn it. Yes, you LEARN this game. Not play it.

If you want a challenge get this game.

At some point in the cold war people were very afraid of the russian tanks and somebody had the bright idea to build a big ♥♥♥ gun to kill them. The gun was cool, could kill tanks, but couldn't move and was an easy target for said tanks... But some smart engineers thought, WAIT, what if this gun could fly around and shoot tanks from the air!?

The Warthog was born.

DCS:A10C manages to capture me now for nearly a year and I swear everyone should get this and try his hand, not just a few hours jumping in, but really trying! It truly deserves the title 'Study-sim' and the amount of ♥♥♥♥ you can do is unbelievable. Even after a year I still discover new functions, quirks and little tricks.

But even a noob can have great fun just shooting that gun on an airfield or just try his hand at landings. Once he gets past setting up his joystick of course. :)

But if you want to know what flying a real A-10C Warthog feels like, you're not gonna get any closer unless you join the Air Force as an officer and hope the A-10 program doesn't get shutdown. Just simply amazing! I have had this module for about a year and just now decided to make a review. Really good detail! Steep learning curve, it will take about a month to learn all about this aircraft and maybe another month or two to master it. I have talked to a A-10C pilot before and he has flyed this simulator before too, he said it was scary how realistic it was. This module is NOT for you if you just wanna hit some bindings on the keyboard and go. If you are serious about flying then this module is for you! #savethea10

Seriously good flight simulation game!
Love the comments of others.... start engine, beep beep beep, take off, beep beep beep, crash!
Bit hard to get the hang of initially, the in game guides aren't that brilliant but there is loads of information on the internet on how to use the avionics systems!
Definitely get yourself a decent joystick and throttle quadrant for this game! I have a (budget) Thrustmaster T-flight Hotas X which works very well!
I can also recommend using a webcam with FaceTrackNoIR (http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net), also iControlDCS (http://bit-shift.com)
The full version of iControlDCS is quite pricey but if you have an iPad and an Android tablet you can run some controls on the iPad and the Flight Displays on the 'droid for free!
