1.285 electioneering fix (windows)

Hi, thanks to some great help from community members we have finally tracked down and (we strongly suspect) fixed a seemingly random crash in the electioneering DLC.
We have patched the windows version 1.285 which includes this fix, and OSX and the Africa version will get their fixes tomorrow. Sorry for all the hassle!

Small update for OSX

We had some bugs reported with electioneering on OSX (and other DLC) when certain scripts were run, such as firing a minister. This has (As far as we can tell) been tracked down and fixed now with this latest tiny update. Sorry about that, and hopefully its fixed now! (this was OSX only)

About This Game

Have you ever wanted to be president? or prime-minister? Convinced you could do a better job of running the country? Let's face it, you could hardly do a worse job than our current political leaders.

Crime, Unemployment, National Debt, Terrorism, Climate Change...Have you got the answers to the problems that face western industrialized nations? Here is your chance to find out...

An entire virtual country

Democracy 3 simulates the motivations, loyalties and desires of everyone in the country. A custom-designed neural network is used to model individual voters, each which varying memberships of voting groups, political parties and pressure groups. Each voters income is modeled, along with their levels of complacency and cynicism. This is the most sophisticated political strategy game ever created.

Unique user interface

Despite being vastly detailed under-the-hood, Democracy 3 has a unique user interface that makes visualizing the connections between laws, policies, voters and situations easy. A simple iconic-based view of your countries issues allows you to 'drill-down' through all the relationships between policies and voters to quickly analyze the impacts of your decisions. Your trade policy may affect GDP, which will affect unemployment, which will effect poverty, and thus crime, leading to a change in tourism, which affects GDP...

Complex simulated voters

Each individual voter is a mixture of a subset of the 21 different voter groups represented within the game. They might be a young, wealthy, liberal socialist commuter, or a retired conservative religious capitalist, for example. Not only this, but the extent to which they identify each of those groups is both variable, and can be affected by your policies in the long term. Convert your country to religion, or atheism, to capitalism, or socialism by careful and nuanced adjustment of your policies and laws over time. A 'focus group' feature lets you look at individual voters and see exactly how they came to a decision to vote for you (or not!).

Mod Support

Democracy 3 is very configurable and trivial to mod. It also has steam workshop support, for easy installation and browsing of modded content. Want to mod the game yourself? no problem, you need zero coding experience, just a spreadsheet program or a text editor, and we have a full comprehensive modding guide available here:
http://www.positech.co.uk/democracy3/modding.html
Modders can easily edit the policies, add new ones, change the way objects affect others, create entirely new countries, situations and even re-write the entire economic and political model. Everything is editable and accessible.

I can't seem to have a presidency that doesn't end in assassination. At first, it was funny, because I figured it was a rare outcome. But as I played more, I kept getting assassinated, no matter what I did. The devs NEED to lower your odds of getting assassinated. On a whole, this game is fun, so just barely I recommend this game. It does loose its appeal quickly, due to the constant assassinations, so maybe wait for a sale, $25 is a bit much for what you get.

This delivers exactly the same stylization as Democracy 2. It is fun to toy around with and with the addition of the Workshop, the game has a ton of replay value. If you are into politics, theorization of what could be in your country, then get this game.

The premise behind this game was fun, but it felt a little too limiting for me once I got in. I felt like every game I played either had similar results or I was forced to alter my decisions. I didn't get out of the game what I expected, to be able to somehow find a way to make the country successful in a variety of different ways. Replayed a few times but probably won't come back.

Once you fixed one country it just is boring to fix other countrys since you already have a plan.

I always thought I was quite progressive.

The Freedom League disagreed, but their Detention Without Trial ended in The Death Penalty, after being successfully ID'd by Armed Police on the National Monorail, who tracked them with Police Drones after ubiquitous Wire Tapping revealed their complaints.

10/10 Would tyranise again.

Ok first attempt was quite a failure for me so lets just ignore that...
Second Attempt:
-plays as france
-starts immediately to decrease crime and increase education (it works)
-everyone loves me except for capitalists (I dont know why, I just made them equal to everyone else...)
-two failed assassination attempts from capitalists, I proceed to laugh in their faces
-I have finally fixed unemployment and poverty and health is starting to increase
-I get voted in again (surprisingly more than half of the capitalists vote for me eventhough they hate me)
-health is high and everything is good except for GPD (I dont understand it)
-I attempt to increase it only to realise I am now in extreme debt
-two more failed assassination attempts from the capitalists I now start to understand why they hate me
-I get voted in again for my third term overwhelmingly from everyone and 73% of capitalists vote for me (why?)
-GPD is the lowest it can be
-capitalists finally kill my and celebrate

10/10 would totally be put through that trauma again

Way boring. I like strategy games, but this one is way too simplified and complicated at the same time. It's like skiing, easy to go through the game and finish it, however, very difficult to master and takes a lot of reading and experimenting to become truly an expert at this game. I would pay $5 tops for this game. It's such a simple program. You increase or decrease a stat, and it has an effect on your presidency one way or another. Simple if then statements. Do not buy unless less than $5.

the good:
+ Accomplishing anything in this game is astonishingly satisfying.
+ Loads of routes to victory (a lot of replay value). A conservative socialist government is just as viable as a liberal capitalist one.
+ Loads of interesting mods + the all of the dlc is excellent.

the not quite as good:
- Democracy 3 is pretty much a spreadsheet. It's not exciting. Until you get into it, it's pretty dry and boring.
- Democracy 3 has a learning curve (a little one, it's more of a learning speed bump, the game comes with an great manual that i'm sure most people ignore), making it difficult to enjoy until you get a good grasp of the interface.

The bottom line:
If you like puzzle or strategy games and you're interested in the premise, Democracy 3 wouldn't be the worst pickup from a steam sale. If you buy Democracy 3, make sure to buy it along with its dlc, which add a lot of depth to the game.

Pretty unrealistic in a number of ways. The only policy I implemented was the deport a group of individuals who were being smuggled into our country illegally, and the black power group managed to assassinate me. If real life were like this game, our society would be in anarchy 24/7, because groups who didn't like a policy would just assassinate their leaders (because that's such an easy thing to do). The mods for this game might make it better.

- #ScrewEducation
- Everyone loves me even though they are making a fraction of earlier earnings
- default on debt, economy crashes, terrible crime and race problem
- Deport 'em all and build a wall!
- No jobs? Thanks Obama...
-Mandatory employment
-The less jobs there are, the more everyone should work!
- No more evolution in schools (or schools)!
- Conservatives love their Fascist Overlord benevelent leader ... Easily re-elected
-If you don't like it here, take your college degree and GET OUT!
- #MakeAmericaWhiteAgain

10/10 would repeat operation wetback and pander to Christian values to save face after crashing the economy again...

Game defintely has it's biases on policies... It's pro-market and pro-conservative (at least for America). Although my libertarian friend, complaining that flat taxes shouldn't increase innequality, may tell you otherwise. If only he could return us to the Stone Age Gold Standard... Get it on sale for a great value.

I pulled America from its crippling debt. I created a balanced economy where homelessness was practically eliminated and crime was at an all time low. Technology was flourishing and production was the highest it'd ever been. All of the political parties finally seemed to find a final compromise under my rule. Obesity, asthma, pollution... All brought to end through my reign. We had begun to embrace the golden age and I was ready to lead the charge toward progress.

I was assassinated because I didn't invest enough money in the Church.
