“Apparently somewhere between the genuine bona fide electrified six-car monorail, the prostitutes and the land mines, I lost the support of the electorate.”
PC Gamer

“I returned to Democracy 3 in an attempt to put right the wrongs of my previous administration. On my first visit, I broke Britain, crushing its culture and creating a country reminiscent of Clockwork Orange, filled with gangs and ultraviolence.”

About This Game

Have you ever wanted to be president? or prime-minister? Convinced you could do a better job of running the country? Let's face it, you could hardly do a worse job than our current political leaders.

Crime, Unemployment, National Debt, Terrorism, Climate Change...Have you got the answers to the problems that face western industrialized nations? Here is your chance to find out...

An entire virtual country

Democracy 3 simulates the motivations, loyalties and desires of everyone in the country. A custom-designed neural network is used to model individual voters, each which varying memberships of voting groups, political parties and pressure groups. Each voters income is modeled, along with their levels of complacency and cynicism. This is the most sophisticated political strategy game ever created.

Unique user interface

Despite being vastly detailed under-the-hood, Democracy 3 has a unique user interface that makes visualizing the connections between laws, policies, voters and situations easy. A simple iconic-based view of your countries issues allows you to 'drill-down' through all the relationships between policies and voters to quickly analyze the impacts of your decisions. Your trade policy may affect GDP, which will affect unemployment, which will effect poverty, and thus crime, leading to a change in tourism, which affects GDP...

Complex simulated voters

Each individual voter is a mixture of a subset of the 21 different voter groups represented within the game. They might be a young, wealthy, liberal socialist commuter, or a retired conservative religious capitalist, for example. Not only this, but the extent to which they identify each of those groups is both variable, and can be affected by your policies in the long term. Convert your country to religion, or atheism, to capitalism, or socialism by careful and nuanced adjustment of your policies and laws over time. A 'focus group' feature lets you look at individual voters and see exactly how they came to a decision to vote for you (or not!).

The game has a strong leftist bias. One example of this bias is that increasing economic prosperity does nothing but increase pollution.

Although this game has no "world" as such, there's a surprising surplus of gameplay, designed for both the novice and professional alike this game does require some political knowledge, (although not too much). I personally believe our current politicians could do with something like this, but alas I doubt they're that tech savvy. Personally, I love this game, but if you have no interest in the political shenanigans of the day I doubt this game will be your cup of tea.

I tip my hat to the developers of this game for their bravery to create such a politically based game.

I was playing this game, and I got a popup that said I eliminated all crime in my country.

When I closed out of the poput I had been gunned down at a rally. Probably anouncing our crime free utopia.

A utopia they said.
Crime free they said.
It'll be fine they said.
Ignore those bullet holes they said.

Fantastic game, I bought it yesterday and have already spent six hours of the night enthusiastically solving Germany's problems after enjoyably failing in my first UK campaign. Would wholeheartedly recommend!

Started in America. Was mostly working on the envornment to stop pollution and asthma. Crime maxed out leading to more violent crime, and major issues with street gangs and ghettos. The minorities also had it out for me but failed. At least the patriots love me. #MakeAmericaGreatAgain

I eveuntally fixed all those problems but then I screwed up on foreign diplomacy. Trump Simulator 10/10

Love this game. I just got it yesterday during the sale and I've already played it for over 10 hours (hint I stayed up til 5 am playing it). It's very addicting for some reason even though it's just pressing buttons and moving bars. There's something about having ultimate power that I love! And the strategy in this game is pretty decent. There are some great mods to give you more policies as well.

At first, I was hestating to try this game due to its super simple interface. Just a few icons and text.
(Unike Game Dev Tycon, which provide a basic graphics: your office and etc)

After few minuts trying out, I was surprised by the content contained in this game. Various policies, different groups, natural disaster, monarchy and so on. You can do a bunch of things to build the country in your own way. And at the same time, choosing different countries will also give you various scenerio. (in which i consider USA is the easist country, since it have the economic power).

After 8 hours or so, it was becoming bored to me, because there are just these policies (or maybe it's because I changed the difficulty to 40%). Then i found there are more things provided by the community. You can add more policies, countries and balance mods into this game.

However, there is a limit of policies and coutries available to be selected. And the gameplay is kinda one-dimensional. Overal i still recommand this game , despite you might be bored by these things after 20 hours.

This game is far more fun than it really should be.
I mean, the actual mechanics are pretty simple, you get some action point type things every turn and you can use them to adjust sliders for existing polices, scrap existing policies or pick nerw policies from a list.
But then there are all the different interest groups to consider - going all socialist? Then the capitalists will try to assassinate you, or at least, a cabinet minister might resign
Lose an election and it's game over, you only need more votes than the other party to win rather than over 50%, so you can make voter apathy and low turnout work in your favour.
It's a two party winner takes all system, no coalitions or minor parties and that is my only criticism of this game - it works well as a USA simulator but less so as a UK or Germany simulator.
It's a simple concept, but the UI is well done and the whole cause and effect system is pretty easy to figure out - invest in science and your GDP will go up, but their will be a rise in pollution and angry environmentalists may start plotting/voting against you.
It has workshop support and there are some awesome creations available.
You don't have to commit to a long session, one turn takes a few minutes, perhaps less if you're following a long turn plan and you can save and quit the game at any point.
Basically, it's really well thought out and a good way to spend a few hours of your life, plus there are difficulty sliders for different levels of player experience and/or drunkenness.
