1.286 uploaded. Fixes voter approval bug

Hi, we updated the game today to version 1.286. the only difference is a fix for voter approval weirdness where approval can suddenly go nuts and the focus group values stop making sense for certain voters.
This will be rolled into mac, linux and other language builds soon.

1.285 electioneering fix (windows)

Hi, thanks to some great help from community members we have finally tracked down and (we strongly suspect) fixed a seemingly random crash in the electioneering DLC.
We have patched the windows version 1.285 which includes this fix, and OSX and the Africa version will get their fixes tomorrow. Sorry for all the hassle!

About This Game

Have you ever wanted to be president? or prime-minister? Convinced you could do a better job of running the country? Let's face it, you could hardly do a worse job than our current political leaders.

Crime, Unemployment, National Debt, Terrorism, Climate Change...Have you got the answers to the problems that face western industrialized nations? Here is your chance to find out...

An entire virtual country

Democracy 3 simulates the motivations, loyalties and desires of everyone in the country. A custom-designed neural network is used to model individual voters, each which varying memberships of voting groups, political parties and pressure groups. Each voters income is modeled, along with their levels of complacency and cynicism. This is the most sophisticated political strategy game ever created.

Unique user interface

Despite being vastly detailed under-the-hood, Democracy 3 has a unique user interface that makes visualizing the connections between laws, policies, voters and situations easy. A simple iconic-based view of your countries issues allows you to 'drill-down' through all the relationships between policies and voters to quickly analyze the impacts of your decisions. Your trade policy may affect GDP, which will affect unemployment, which will effect poverty, and thus crime, leading to a change in tourism, which affects GDP...

Complex simulated voters

Each individual voter is a mixture of a subset of the 21 different voter groups represented within the game. They might be a young, wealthy, liberal socialist commuter, or a retired conservative religious capitalist, for example. Not only this, but the extent to which they identify each of those groups is both variable, and can be affected by your policies in the long term. Convert your country to religion, or atheism, to capitalism, or socialism by careful and nuanced adjustment of your policies and laws over time. A 'focus group' feature lets you look at individual voters and see exactly how they came to a decision to vote for you (or not!).

Democracy 3 provides a rather entertaining time managing your own country, applying politics while keeping eyes on supporters, budget, interrelations...and even terrorist groups trying to slay you.

While not the longest or the most complex managing simulator on Steam, it's probably one of the best Political simulators out there, so if the subject interests you, you can give it a try. Just don't expect much replayability, even with mods.

It might be just me, but I really really enjoy being able to change everything there is to change in a society. The DLC is also really enjoyable, and I would recommend buying that as well if you can.

Stay away from this failure of a game.

Democracy 3 makes you the leader of a country, and lets you enact policies to interacts with lots of variables (racial tension, GDP, unemployement, technology, etc...). And you'll have to compose with the fact that each political tendance of your citizens have an agenda (capitalists, socialists, environementalists, middle clas, etc...), so you'll have to keep them happy if you want to be elected, or simply not assasinated.

This game have quite a few good ideas, i'll give you that. And the choice of policies is relatively vast, if a bit repetitive. Countries aren't exactly realistic on some levels (no nuclear power in France? what?), but well, it's not exactly all wrong either.

The main issue with Democracy 3 is that it's fundamentally incoherent. You get assasinated for more or less every choice you make ; you can have strike/GDP collpse/end of strike/GDP up/strike... cycles for very long ; economics factors are more or less impossible to predict. But the worst is, you can't tell if it's difficult on purpose, badly designed, or bugged as hell. Even if I would go with option 3.

Let me tell you a story. I was playing France, assasinations deactivated (good way to test some possibilities), and managed to bring it to new heights through SCIENCE (space station, tech grants, all that stuff). Everything was fine, nearly no crime, best productivity on the planet, educations levels through the roof, until the next turn, where the nice music changed to a gloomy tone. My popularity dropped from 80% to 25%. No policy could explain that, so i looked at my electorate, and saw that lot of people became "fanatically opposed" to my governement. I tried to look at the "why", when I saw that lots of them did NOT have any discontentement but were opposed anyway. And that changed for no reason.

And the thing is, it's like that everywhere : variables that weren't announced anywhere and crash you plans to the ground ; crisis spreading like wildfire ; assasinations attempts if you don't do everything NOW, even if it makes you country unsustainable...

If you enjoy the kind of "barely in control" game like Dwarf fortress, you can probably try it. Otherwise, the only thing this game will do is making you join the ranks of people who wants to murder the guys who designed this.

Well, I can be a Dictator, a Communist, a President, a Prime Minister.

I can turn democractic countries like Australia into a nationalist country, a country like America into a communist state.

I can do whatever....

But be careful of what you do, because some people don't like you
---
Well, thats what I liked.

Amazing Game (8.5/10), would recommend.

This game is not bad, in fact I like this game. So in short:

+
Many policies
Things are influencing other things
Management of staff
Solving problematic situations
Creating own "democracy"

-
Its "Democracy" so its not really much possible to start a totalitarian state, left or right
1 turn events are repetitive and after 3rd time, really boring
Hard to get in to it from start, but its okay later
Not really possible to stay in power for a long time, because of debt during cyclones and food crisis in later era

Its good game, but I rather recommend you, buy it only if you like politics.
