Review For Skullgirls PC
Review by : Panda Waifu & Meguca 2.0

Pros :
- Great animations
- Incredible artstyle
- Lovely music
- Very good value for the money
- Mechanically impressive

Cons :
- Weak keyboard controls (Gamepad recommended)
- Multiplayer is unforgiving for newcomers
- Really hard to master

Review :
Skullgirls is a game full of things to love, which can all be appreciated on their own, which all come together to make a unique experience.

First, the visuals:
Skullgirls is easily one of the most visually impressive games you'll ever play. Every single animation is drawn in incredible detail, everything looking extremely smooth and natural. It is worth playing almost for the visuals alone.

Next, the controls: Keyboard controls are done well, but a controller is highly recommended for anyone who wants to fully explore this game, and the abundant movelists, combos, and other features. The tutorials are also far better suited for preparing a player using a controller, rather than a keyboard.

If you're a veteran at fighting games, you'll be pleased at how 'technically' impressive Skullgirls is, allowing for a ton of ways to chain attacks, get massive combos and feel in control. Players who are newer to fighters don't have to worry, there is a tutorial covering a massive amount of game mechanics, and the movelists are easy to understand. As always with fighter games, it can be quite relentless to try and get to high skill levels and pull off every move and mechanic with ease, it does take a lot of practice.

For casual players and veterans alike, there's a ton to enjoy. Story mode covers a pretty cool plot, each character's story really helps to flesh them out and make them feel a bit more alive. You fight your way through a series of matches, a few adding a bit to the story through pre-fight dialog, until you reach a pretty challening final boss where you conclude that character's story. There is a variety of difficulty options available, making it accessible to both beginner and hardcore players.

The character roster is relatively limited, with 8 Fighters being available in the base game, and 4 added DLC fighters (and a Hidden one) available through DLC. It is worth mentioning that if you own the base game upon a DLC's release, it is available for free for a significantly long time. Otherwise, you have to buy the DLCs separately. This can be quite a turn-off for some players, but given the depth of each character it is more than enough to get a ton of enjoyment out of Skullgirls.

Gameplay wise, every character has a variety of moves. There are light, medium and heavy punches and kicks (varying in range, damage, speed, etc on each character) as well as specials, crouched attacks, jumping attacks, and all the other things common to all fighters. Every character has varying difficulties, making them better or worse for less skilled players. A newcomer can likely buttonmash their way through a few PVP matches or the story mode, but on higher difficulties or vs someone who is skilled at fighters will be a brick wall to that strategy.

For many players, the multiplayer is the most important part. From a technical standpoint, the multiplayer was done well and can provide a lag-free environment to anyone who wants to get into it. The community isn't HUGE, but there's always players to face, but as a word of warning, most players you encounter online are very skilled. It can be near impossible to get into as a newcomer to fighters or to Skullgirls. For this reason I do recommend playing this game locally if possible.

In conclusion :
Every moment is enjoyable with the beautiful animation and artstyle, there's a challenge to be found if you're looking for one, and there's a casual, enjoyable experience for those who just want to appreciate the art, voice acting and story.
And for those reaons I'm giving this game a recommendation!

I beat the crap out of a demented 13 year old who has bombs coming out of her dress while in a thigh high skirt that flashed my panties every time I did anything. When I won, my hair changed into a person and used me as a scarf.
I like this game.

A fighting game with simple straightforward mechanics and have very good 2d sprites. If you get bored of those games rusting in your library, well, take a break and replenish your fun meter by having a whole lotta time beating cute girls with huge racks in skimpy outfits!

Warning : Online lobby is filled with people better than you.

Bought the game for the waifu battles.
Throughly hand-picked through waifus and failed every single one of them.
Picked a man who is a saxophone and he's the only one I can play.
I am cursed to be pantsu-less.

(SERIOUS REVIEW)

This is a really fun game, and an extensive tutorial will welcome beginners smoothly even though I can't ♥♥♥♥ing beat it GODAMNIT I CAN'T ♥♥♥♥ING DO THE FILIA AIR COMBO WHAT THE ♥♥♥♥

This being my first fighting game, I would highly reccomend it for purchase for the fanservice. Also there might be a game somewhere, whatever buy it anyways.

(Ok seriously serious review)

Skullgirls is fun. Characters are all generally easy to learn, hard to master. Control are really well optimized for any kind of controller such as keyboards, SNES controllers, Sega Genesis controllers, Power Glove, and even a NERF gun! Tutorials are verywell fleshed out, but it's easy to say some are pretty darn hard, (Looking at air combos) but once you try one of every lesson (even if you fail miserably) you'll learn something, and that's ok.

The most negativity comes with the multiplayer in Skullgirls. Casul players CAN have fun, but quick matches quikly lead to 100 hit combo's with resets, or someone who has no idea how to play, just like you (or if you're a pro, cannon fodder). Most bad reviews come from salty players who didn't get 999 hit combos the first time they played. Multiplayer can be fun with friends, and lobbies are sometimes fun if trolls don't join casual lobbies and eat you.

Story, art style, and technical stuff in this game is very very well done. Controls are tight and responsive, and the community probably won't skin you alive when you eat questions (but seriously people are really cool here, I swear!). Overall, if you're a filthy casual like me, join me in the glorious ocean of salt and Fukua. If you're a pro stop playing ♥♥♥♥ing Fukua or I will find where you live buy this game as well, I can assure you it's fun and easy to get into PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS GAME FUKUA HAS ALREADY TAKEN MY CHILDREN and I would reccomend it for all people who are fans of fighting games and/or fanservice.

Also Fukua likes to eat your salty tears in online if you didn't know.

9/10 -IGN (Minus one for salt)

Very polished and aesthetically pleasing // A must have for 2D fighter enthusiasts

+ Fluid and well-rendered animations
+ Environmental designs are absolutely gorgeous, particularly for a 2D fighter
+ Voiceovers are excellent, and every line serves well to increase the game's appeal
+ Soundtrack and general audio design are well above-par
+ One can choose custom assists that look and feel great, and add significantly to an already ample pallet of possible attack combinations
+ Each fighter feels absolutely and wholly unique
+ Online functionality runs smoothly, with minimal delay or performance impact
+ Solid, classic, and superbly well-rounded fighter mechanics
+ Competent tutorial mode is more than adequate to acclimate new players

- Limited unlockables and gameplay modes
- Short story modes, even for a fighter
- Small pool of playable characters, even taking DLC into consideration

me when hit by a blockbuster: FUUUUUUU. Me when they dhc into a second one: UUUUUUCK. 10/10, You can play as your waifus coloured like other waifus.

Depth is incredible btw. For those who actually know fighting games this isn't just a fixed mvc2 like he wanted at first. I've dug into vf4, vsav, really deep games and I mean I wasn't a profesional at them by all means ... but I really feel it's up there with them.

Trust me, having 'sick fundamentals' as a good player called them and just doing a damaging combo whenever you score a hit does not make you good at Skullgirls. I tried. 'Why do you play Skullgirls?' or 'go back to SF' were once common remarks too. The game takes a lot.

Setups, resets, burstbaits, meter management, assists. The neutral's there and it's fun, but decision making is a big thing at every level of Skullgirls and can get in the way of it. I can see how others would get upset if they're not used to that ... lol, it's players sure seem to make excuses.

It's a great game, but I play games little and fighting games even less. This is different for the community. That's why I recommend it. Everyone is really nice and I made some great friends.

Skullgirls is basically a 1 on 1 Fighting game (Similiar with Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter) with Arcade Controller or Keyboard Support.

The game has fluent animations with some pretty neat easteregg animations, mostly eastereggs to the internet memes.

Instead of having Riu, Hakan or Chun Li, you got Peacock, Filia and Cerebella. Basically; it's mostly known for it's gifs and sexuell fanarts on the internet, but also known for one of the first fighting game with bouncing ♥♥♥♥. Yay.

You have a total of 11 Characters, where only one character being male. Does it matter? Not in the slightest.

Skullgirls is also known for it's special attacks, it's combosystem and also plenty filled with eastereggs around the intire game. Yes, so many eastereggs.

The game has a Training, a Versus and a Singleplayer Mod, which you should from out of all probably look at the training first, because Skullgirls is not played like the other fighting games.

In the Training Mod, you can learn everything from moveset, combos, special attacks and the playstyle from the characters themselves.

In the Versus Mod, you can play online against somebody or with somebody sitting right next to you. If you can, both should play with the arcade stick, because there will me some issues with the keyboard, but I jump to that later.

In the Singleplayer Mod, however, there is a section of a Story Mod and a Tournament Mod. The Story mod is depending on the character you picked to play, that means, each character have their own story, which is awesome, but find themselves fighting in the end against Valentine, a nurse with an issue of her body temperature; Double, a somesort of Demon, dressed like a Nun and in the fighting turning her inside organs out, to make it look like a cluster♥♥♥♥, however, each button resembles another characters attack and/or animation, basically a copy of you; and Marie, a girl who consumed the SkullHeart and ♥♥♥♥s ♥♥♥♥ up with Skulls and Bones. (I hate her for that.)

The Tournament Mod is something you should look forward to, if you want to test your skills against 9 Rounds against computer generated bots. In the tournament mod, you can choose between 1 to 3 characters to fight along with you (Basically, a Tag tournament), same goes to the bots, who find themselves often with 2 or 3 characters at once. The theme is going like this: The more characters you have in your party, the weaker they are. In the last of the 9 rounds, you fight Marie. (Yes, I still hate her.)

The issues I have with this game however is the controls. I mean, holy ♥♥♥♥, I know this game is designed for the arcade stick, but jesus, playing with the keyboard is really hard. It's so easy to ♥♥♥♥ up with a combo, so that you find yourself being combo-chained to death and lose the round. Yes, it's that bad. I recommend, changing the controls of this game for the keyboard, because it's really weird how it handles. You have 6 attack buttons and a Joystick (Ressembling the movement and jumps), which the Joystick however is also some sort of a combomaking thing in the game. With the keyboard, it's frustrating. I found myself 10 minutes in one of the training lessons, because I have to press more buttons, than on the arcade controller and sometimes I ♥♥♥♥ up with one button and the combo is gone and I have to do everything from all over again.(I don't own one, don't blame me, they are expensive as crack bags.)

If you want to buy this game, I recommend looking some reviews for it or if you have an Arcade Controller OR you accept the challenge like me and play with the keyboard control. Otherwise, if anything of that speaks for you, buy it. It's a great game, it has it's charm and humour and for me very well done.
