Skullgirls 2nd Encore Features DLC released; prices reduced!

Mac crossplay vs PC/Linux is now fixed, and it once again hopefully runs on all old MacOS versions it used to run on. Update your game, Mac users!

It's been a long time!*

Do you like voiced story mode?
Do you like Challenges? Trials?
Do you like MISCELLANEOUS FIXES? **
Do you like PAYING LESS MONEY FOR SKULLGIRLS?!?!

WELL THEN HAVE I GOT AN UPDATE FOR YOU!
I still have an update if you don't really like miscellaneous fixes or paying less money for Skullgirls, but it will be markedly less exciting in that case.

New Prices
- The base game is now $9.99. Forever.
- The DLC characters are now $1.99 each. Forever.
We love you, too.
- The 2nd Encore Features DLC is $15, and discounted for the first week: in theory it's 33% off ($10) if you don't own any DLC, and 50% off ($7.50) if you do own DLC. (This might be broken if you have the IGG-backer versions of the DLC, rather than the paid DLC. We are looking into it.) It includes all the DLC characters, English voiced story mode, Challenges, Trials for every character, and Survival Mode.

General
- Added some slick new guest art to the Art Gallery courtesy of Arc System Works, the publisher for the Japanese version!
- Updated/unified the credits.
- Fixed some other things I've forgotten. Yes, really, it was like 5 months ago...
- Known issue on Linux: Using the nVidia binary drivers 364.15 with KDE 5 is known to cause graphics issues. We're looking into it.
- This build does not include the fix for a newly discovered projectile-combo-start bug for P2. That needs to be exhaustively tested first.
- We've been doing a lot of dev streams for Indivisible, you know, if you're into that sort of thing...

Other Platforms
- Skullgirls is out on the Vita in the US, and very soon (the 15th) in Japan. We have no word on when it will be released Europe yet. >.<
- The Japanese PS4 version also comes out on the 15th. It adds Japanese voice acting, and there is a physical version!

-- Footnotes --
When was the last time you saw a Steam announcement that collated footnotes?
YEAH I THOUGHT SO.

* ...Lenneth. Would you like to know the status of your Einharjar? Would you like to know her status? +5 Bravery - Approached by Thor at the Aesir Mixer last week, rebuffed his awkward advances.

** Oh, come on. EVERYBODY loves miscellaneous fixes!

Wondering about the price of the 2nd Encore Features DLC? The $15 is just for the work involved in Voiced Story Mode/Challenges/Trials/Survival. The included DLC characters are basically free, because they must be included - Challenges etc. don't care whether you own the character or not. If you uninstall a DLC character and play a challenge or trial involving them, the game may crash! So don't do that. :^)

When was the last time you saw a Steam announcement that used the word "collated"?
YEAH I THOUGHT SO.

Combo Breaker 2016 registration is open!

You better believe this gets an announcement here!

If you play Skullgirls, YOU SHOULD GO TO COMBO BREAKER.
I'm already registered!Yep! SG and VSav.

Even if you can only travel to one fighting game community event in 2016, MAKE THAT EVENT COMBO BREAKER. Combo Breaker 2015 was the absolute BEST tournament experience I have ever had, and 2016 looks to be equally amazing.

The venue is open 24 hours. You don't have to play games in your hotel room - there are round-the-clock stations for ALL tournament games, including Skullgirls! If you're like me, you go to tournaments to play games against people you never get to play, not to sit around and watch other people do that. Well, Combo Breaker has got that covered. Other tournaments could learn a thing or two. :^)

Oh right. Where is it? It's in Chicago, you fly to O'Hare.

I was not compensated in any way for this announcement, I'm just hella excited for this. The Skullgirls community will be out in force!

Ask yourself.
Have you ever wanted to be a tuba?
Have you ever wanted to hit someone WITH a tuba?
Have you always felt that deep down inside you were actually Robocop but with tubas instead of guns?

Well look no further, this is the game for you.

This is a review, that you should take to heart and shall help you to either decide to buy the game or not.

I love this game, if you couldn't tell. I play this game on a daily basis for 2 up to 5 hours a day and I will not get sick of it. I enjoy every second of it. From the music and stages, characters and their stories, up to the developers and voiceactors themselves; I just say, that I fell in love with this game. Of course, there are some flaws in this game, that I want to say in this review, so please, if you are not sure if this game is for you, then I hope, that I'll be able to help you.

The Game:
The game itself is basically what you get, when you throw Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat and your favorite anime waifu in a pot and mix it all together. It's a 2D Fighting Game with it's own certain mechanics and finally; Smooth 60 FPS. It is usually played with a Fighting/Arcade Stick, (Depends of how you call it) but on steam, you can play it with the Keyboard, XBox or Playstation controller... The choices are yours and yours only. If you prefer the Keyboard over the controller, go ahead.

The Characters
The Game has a selection of 14 characters, everyone of them with their own unique playstyle. As the title says, there are mostly only female characters. I repeat; mostly. With the exception of two characters, who are male, (Three, if you count Robo-Fortune as genderless) the rest of them are all female, but that does not matter. They all also have their own individual stories, which I like to tell you now.

The Story/Stories
The Story goes like this;
A mystic artifact known as the Skullheart has been created since multiple decades. It's power was to grant any girl's wish, if they were pure in the heart, but most of them weren't. If they were not, they turned into a creature, called the "Skullgirl", who brought chaos, death and armageddon to a teaparty to wreck her surroundings. If the Skullheart got destroyed however, it will come back 7 years later to find a new victim and the cycle goes on and on and on... Until year HellIfIKnow, where the new Skullgirls "Bloody Marie" has risen and brings havoc to New Meridian.

The character's stories are fixed and cannot be changed, whether you like it or not. Why am I telling you this? The stories of many characters end dramatically, sometimes death is included, which can be hard hitting for you, if you have a strong bound to your favorite character. I'm sorry, Squigly :c I will not tell how their story goes onward from that point, you will either have to watch a walkthrough on youtube or play the game by yourself.

Gameplay
Now, the gameplay is depending of what you play with. For me; I currently play with the keyboard and I improved with time. It however is definitely best played with the Fighting/Arcade Stick, so if you have one, you probably have it easy.

Multiplayer
This is where you have to admit; Multiplayer in this game sucks ONLY if you play with people, that you don't know. Joining a random lobby in Skullgirls will be the bane of your life, eventually making you stop playing the game even. Believe me, when I say this; You will not like the random lobbies in Skullgirls. You will get literally ♥♥♥♥ed over and over, if you started playing the game. It is recommended to get a few friends to play this game and you probably get better in it. I still stuck at it tho.

My Judgement of "Skullgirls"
This game is considered in my eyes a great game, that I refuse to actually let go from. I am a Skullgirls-Addict with 150 Hours, but the hours will rise higher and higher the more often I boot it up. It is funny, you get in the mood to play it more and more, you want to learn to become better in it until you want to become the best in Skullgirls.

Skullgirls gets a 8 out of 10

TL;DR: Good Game, stay away from multiplayer, if you have no friends.

Thanks to To LabZeroGames for Skullgirls and MikeZ for keeping the community uplightened and for that awesome Soviet Announcer <3

With fun combat and mechanics Skullgirls is a beautiful anime 2d fighting game. The art and the graphics are really nice and I loved the soundtrack (just do a YouTube search for “The Fish Man's Dance” and “The Legend of the Skull Heart” -my two favorite- they are amazing!).
Game has a comprehensive tutorial, gameplay in general is really good.
The characters have a lot of style and personality, I love the cast, it’s very original. The only problem is that there are not enough characters since the roster is rather small.
As for game modes it has different ones, like single player story, arcade mode and vs. I’m sure you will have fun in every one of them. By the way, the controls are intuitive and responsive.
A must have if you are fan of anime and/or fighting games.
