Hotfix 13a - "Blue Sky and Duplication Fixes"

Hey Survivors!
A couple breakthroughs today with Hotfix 13a, a brand new patch for The Dead Linger! If your game does not update automatically, we recommend verifying your game cache or restarting your Steam client.

Patch Notes for Hotfix 13a - "Blue Sky and Duplication Fixes"

- New sky system added, simple but better! Some features may be missing from old sky, but performance has improved.
- The moon is gone for a short while with the new sky.
- Blue sky/black screen issue likely fixed with the addition of the new sky system.
- Graphics settings are persistent between sessions now.
- Fixed a ton of instances where duplicate objects may spawn in the world.
- Fixed a duplication issue where rocks were spawning twice in rocky lands.
- Small performance increase due to less (or no) duplicate objects spawning.
- Cylinder-shaped hay bales should no longer be flying in the air, which was caused by the duplication glitch.
- Hunting bow position in first person hands is fixed.
- Crossbow string showing up when zoomed in on the crossbow has been fixed.
- J-mac position in first person hands is fixed.
- Survivors can now see their weapons properly in multiplayer.
- Punch and kick ranges have been fixed.
- “Gameplay” settings menu has been added!
-Disable Pickup Messages - This turns off the messages that display every time you pick up an object.
-Disable Status Messages - This turns off the messages that display when you get hungry, or your weapon decreases in durability.
- Console commands “options” and “settings” now bring up the settings menu.
- The timerate console command is now in minutes, with 1 minute being the lowest value. For example: “timerate 1 1" is 1 minute day, 1 minute night.
- Resolution dropdown menu now shows the current resolution by default.
- Door creak sound effect is now linked to the ‘Sound Effects’ slider.
- Backpack opening sound effect is now linked to ‘Sound Effects’ slider.
- Massive holes in the terrain should no longer be present.
- Fixed issue where you sometimes may end up tilted when sitting on a bicycle.
- Fixed issue where houses were disappearing in certain circumstances.
- Fixed a substantial shader error causing very low framerates in some circumstances.
- Fixed an issue where the 'Refresh World' screen might be upside down.
- Fixed a few visual issues with the status bar icons in the inventory as well as backpack visual elements.
- Fall damage values have been doubled. You now take twice as much damage from fall.
- If a survivor is on a water tower ladder and quits the game, joining a new world does not carry over their previous climbing state.
- Horde aggro has been reduced from 85% to 70%, so they are more alert!

This Game Rocks! Okay, so it's still early alpha and has its share of bugs/glitches/things that don't work quite right yet. But that's okay. First off, I am one of the people who enjoys getting to see games unfold in development like this. And this game delivers some solid play in its current state.

A warning though, there is no pause, and probably won't ever be one. Not even when you're in the options menu. So, never ever tweak your settings without first finding a safe place. Unless you don't mind possibly becoming a zombie's chew toy.

As I said before, TDL is still in development, so there are lots of planned features in the works, that haven't made it in yet. One of the features that is in, however, is the ability to actually look around (including behind you) while moving. I don't mean walking backwards. You can be moving "forwards," and pan around like you could in real life. It may be a small feature compared to other innovations in gameplay out there, but here, I find it to be cruicial to the level of realism the dev team is striving for.

Keep your eyes on this title, even if you're not into the Early Access titles. This one has promise, and I'm sure it will make it to a full-fledge release.

This game has the potential to be the best zombie horror experience in video game history. As of now the game is basically unplayable and extremely boring. The game lags to no end most likely due to a memory leak. I have found that disconnecting and re-entering the world will sometimes clean up the lag. The new weapons update is really well done thus far. The zombies are boring clones of each other and the violence leaves much to be desired. There is no blood and I would love to see dismemberment. The landscapes are really well done but the spawning of trees needs to be fixed as they are inside houses and roads. I really hope the dev's move quickly on this game as I am quite eager to see the polished version of it. One last thought I would like to share is the lack of transportation. There is nothing but running which sucks. I can see by the horrendous lag that vehicles would be an impossibility. I hope this is fixed soon. Overall this game will destroy all other titles in the same genre. If you have the extra money to give to the dev's I would say it is a good investment. Help them finish this amazing game!!

Keep your eye on this title as it looks very promising and full of potenial, in its current state (10i) there is no real reason to play it other than to kill zombies and explore the randomly generated maps.

However I am pretty confident in a few updates over the year we will see online servers full of player made factions/groups, running around fighting other people for supplies and territory. As long as this game doesn't pull a project zomboid (It probably won't since the developers probably arent brain damaged and backup their work) I can tell there will be fun had.

Hello there peoples of Steam, i am Shadowthingey and today i am gonna review The Dead LInger. Being in alpha stage there are infact problems mostly regarding peformance and world creation. even though the world in generated quite nicely little things are messed up such as trees being spawned inside houses or in the middle of roads.Peformance is sometimes low, but with patches this has been helped, just watch out for cornfields they will bring your PC to it's knees.Finally there is no blood or dismemberment at the moment.

Now for the good, the game is an open world sandbox zombie simulation! Yes people may think of Day-Z, but this game removes the rediculousness of that and truly is all about survival. You can find shelter in suburbs or a cabin in the woods, but the infected know where you are so you better board up your windows and block the enterances with furniture.

Multiplayer is a very nice aspect of this game, and with more updates it will only get better because as of now there is only 1 player model and 1 zombie model making it pretty repetitive, however we should expect a randomly generated zombies with a future update.

Graphics in this game are nice, personally my PC isn't all that, but my experience visually has been pleasing; there is grass covering the ground, many trees of different size and color spread across the beautiful North American landscape with farms, office buildings, hills,suburbs and forest with amazing sun beams cutting through the leaves. Rain occurs every now and then with thunder to bring the mood down and the cycle between night and day is smooth and nearly seamless. The only negatives i have found visually is the shadow quality is not the best, but there is some great dynamic lighting effects to make up for it.

So my final verdict? The Dead Linger as of now in Alpha is... 8/10

Being that it is in alpha i expected the few shortcomings it has, but TDL is definetly a great investment because updates are only going to make it better.

Great game. It's a bit rough in it's current shape but give it a year tops and it'll be the best zombie survival game ever. So now you're probably asking "then why buy now?" Well the price is gonna increase later on and this company is an indie company. They fund this game with only the sales from it. So if you buy now you will fund the game aswell! Great company. Great soundtrack. Great Game. Get it!
