What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access was chosen as a way to directly involve the community in the development and direction of The Dead Linger.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The Dead Linger should be in Early Access until sometime in 2016, transitioning from Alpha to Beta, and then Release when the time comes.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Check out the roadmap for a full list of features planned!

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is in ALPHA stage. It is rough and it has bugs, but you can enjoy exploring a few towns in Pepper Valley, and fighting off the zombies that persistently hunger for you and your friends. Multiplayer does work, but solo is the most clean and bugless experience. If you have a plan for survival and want to explore interiors and loot weaponry, you can do this in the Alpha as it stands right now.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will increase in price when it hits Beta, and once again when it hits Release. We are looking at roughly a $10 USD difference between each version, for a total of $40 on release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We are extremely active on twitter (@TheDeadLinger) and our forums at”

The Weekly Dead 60: Update 5 Released!

Welcome survivors to another edition of The (Insert unit of time) Dead! Past weekly deads were skipped because updates were close to release. Speaking of updates being released, we've released 2 updates in this past week!

Update 4
Update 4 was the inclusion of barricading, and was talked about in a vlog containing information about both Update 3 and 4.
You can view the vlog here

The patch notes for update 4 posted for posterity's sake.
Update 4 Patch Notes:
- Barricading is in, in basic. Hold middle click (or C) to grab a 2x4 board. With a hammer equipped, click to nail it to a surface.
- Various fixes to the way inventory works with networking
- Potential fix for a footstep sound bug

We hope you are boarding up your windows and doors. It won't save you, but it may buy you time.

Update 5

Update 5 was released this week as well. A very small update adding scopes to scoped weapons and some bug fixes. Patch notes as follows.

Update 5 Patch Notes:
- Scoped rifles now have visual scope overlays
- Some very small bug fixes related to aiming/zooming with scopes and various rifles.

2 updates in one weekly dead is pretty meaty I'd say. I mean, we got a whole game mechanic, and an immersion feature in one week!

As always, be sure to follow us on twitter @TheDeadLinger for more development news!

3 years waiting for release (4 years in developing), changing the engine after several updates and two days ago i just read a post about “bad luck” hahaha...

2 years ago I bought this game for 19.99$ and now price has been dropped to $5 USD (now in effect), im furious because i never played this, since the game is unplayable this is so laggy (frequently less than 10 FPS).

three times they changed the engine and still have a terrible optimization in all computers.

Now, we will talk about the post who i read two days ago...

The Dead Linger costs more per month to develop than it brings

Ok, So... Why the f*ck did they requested about $60,000 using the kickstarter? Info: ''4,218 backers pledged $154,968 to help bring this project to life.''

The forums will remain open as well.

Serious? Who need the forums? We want play the game!

The Dead Linger has turned out this way... I'm done with Steam Early Access.

Another failed early access game!

"The Dead Linger is going on the backburner, meaning it’s effectively postponed indefinitely."

Why is this game still being sold on Steam for $5.00? Steam pull this game down ASAP and let it die!

Do not buy, the game has been cancelled and quite frankly should not even be on Steam anymore despite the reduced price. Stay away.

EDIT (Friday, Nov 13th): Well, it's official. The game is dead. The devs are no longer working on it. This announcement was just made yesterday and the CEOs of Sandswept clearly say "We can’t continue it". So basically, they took all our money and squandered it. Do not trust this company ever again because they clearly don't know what to do or how to handle finances. Hell, they were even suggested with the idea of starting a new company under a new name so as to continue developing games but without the bad rep that they've so lovingly earned themselves with this fiasco.

Again, The Dead Linger is OFFICIALLY dead. They said it's "on the backburner" but I highly doubt we'll ever hear anything about it again.

Original review:

Do yourself a favour if you're debating on getting this game...

***DO NOT BUY***

It should really be called "The Devs Linger" because it's been 3+ years of development with multiple engine changes promising faster and better quality updates, none of which have been met and most of which have broken the game more. Deadlines have been missed time and time again, though they smartened up on that one and stopped giving us deadlines. There's also the HORRENDOUS attitude toward any type of criticism they receive and how some people in the company have straight up insulted members of the community.

Oh and I can't forget to mention that while TDL is still being worked on and despite all the problems and backlash that have gone on, Sandswept has decided to start working on another game :O! TDL alone has barely gone anywhere, only more problems and bugs with the majority of the community up in arms about how they're still able to still sell this in the broken state that it's been in for years, and yet Sandswept is trying to make ANOTHER game? Really? I don't know if that's stupid or ambitious, but right now given the current situation with TDL, it seems stupid to take on another project.

I used to be hyped about this game, I remember buying it and saying to people that this would become one of THE definitive zombie survival games to play. Now it's just become nothing but a disappointment. Avoid it. Go buy yourself some ice cream, you'll get way more enjoyment out of it.

Game is as of now "dead", as in no longer being worked on. Dev has stated that he will lower the price or even remove the game from steam, as of now I recommend that you stay away from this game and watch what happens, as this may or may not get picked up again.

Rest in Peace The Dead Linger, lets hope you come back like a zombie and get done. Til then, not recommened.
