What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access allows SNOW to reach its audience sooner and improve the core game through community feedback.”

“SNOW will remain in Early Access until it launches fully after the Open Beta period. At that point SNOW will be nearly feature complete with all intended content and gameplay available to the users.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of SNOW will be a more complete experience having player progression, competitive game modes and a fully-featured multiplayer experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

SNOW is currently in Open Beta. This means that many features are still in development and the game's controls and core gameplay have not been completed.

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“SNOW will transition into a fully free-to-play game during the Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“SNOW's community feedback is a key component to SNOW's development. Especially in this early state, understanding what features the community wants in SNOW will shape it's long-term development.”

While it looks like it would be a ton of fun to play, this ain't no SSX...in the Sims.
Playing with keyboard and mouse, I found it basically impossible to get any amount of speed built up in order to do anything even remotely resembling what the tutorial wanted me to do, much less anything that might actually be fun. I struggled to complete the tutorial, and eventually ragequit.
I came back to it this evening and mucked about with the FreeRide mode on a couple different mountains. Downhill was fun, if pointless, and the mountain with halfpipes, etc, was fun for about 5 minutes before succumbing to "no-fun-itis" again...and again, because I couldn't find (an intuitive) way to get any speed to use for tricks on the various grind rails and ramps.

Boo.

I normally do not write reviews to games but this game I thought was exceptional for its current state.
I will say though that it is quite glitchy at the moment the glitches that i have encountered though have mostly been from grinding sideways. Most glitches that other users have reported have been fixed which it think is a good sign that the developer is improving the game.
The game itself doesn't look like a AAA title but it is still quite fun. If it continues on the path of improvement that it is on, i will be very pleased with the release game

Sadly at this time I can't recommend the game. As a snowboarder and a huge fan of winter sports games, the controls are sluggish, the xbox controls often don't work or fail completely. Cannot gain speed, movement feels wonky, the moves are not precise at all, etc. This is early access so it's understandable that this will all be fixed in the future (hopefully). I believe the potential is there for the game... it could be great with a lot of improvement. For now, my take is skeptical at best. Oh and they need to optimize better; my system far exceeds the recommended specs but my frame rate is as slow as molasses as well as the game itself. I wanted to pull what little hair I have left in my head out and eventually quit before I rage quit lol. I will give one positive comment: the music is excellent to say the least. They picked the perfect tracks to give the down-hill experience exactly what it needs, so bravo on that account.

Great music, great idea, and it looks good. But there's just too many bugs right now. I constantly get stuck in motion and can't move. Force close is the only option at that point. Looking forward for what's to come.

Definitely like where this game is going. Used to play snowboarding games for hours on the original xBox. It is still in heavy alpha, so I'm willing to let the glitches and small things go. What bugs me is that I wish I knew I had to buy a spot for the snowmobile before buying the actual sled. Plus I'm pretty sure you can't even earn enough credits through normal play to buy both the sled spot and a sled...

This game is alright, but for a game released almost 3 years ago it has way too many bugs for my taste. I will probably continue to play this, but there are too few maps, it is too hard to gain speed, and again, there are too many bugs.

Finally a good snowsports game for PC, sick soundtrack, active devs, good graphics, and smooth controls for the most part. Things can feel clunky at times but definitely a lot of fun, especially considering it's free now.

Controlls need refining, seems to be delay on pressing a button to event happening on screen, lack of ability to cancel a jump, once you press or hold A you are committed to the junp forever. Controller layout image is for playstation controller, like anybody uses one on PC.

SNOW is one of those games you play to mess around with and not take anything too seriously.

I commend the developers for allowing the Steam userbase a free early access build to test out the game. I spent some time in the game and I had fun. The navigation for the most part is easy with the use of a PS4 controller. I have a 960 and the game runs pretty well at 1080p Very High Setting. Favorite part is the ability to rewind your play and pick up continuously from a run.

***Don't go into this expecting a realistic winter sports sim.***

The physics are all off. Not enough speed increase for downhill, turning can be a chore, and jumps are very sensitive. My favorite part of the game is to intentionally crash at high speeds and watch my avatar go flying across the mountain.

Definately worth checking out right now!

Pretty neat game. Interesting concept and entertaining. Very good game to just chill out with. Given that its Early Access I'm not gonna waste my time doing any sorta long review, but its F2P and only about 4GB so give it a shot, not much to lose.

Ignore the idiots giving tons of negative reviews saying 'controls too complicated dont bother'. They're just idiots. If you've got half a freakin' brain you'll be fine.

There are lots of bugs. As in like all of them. sometimes you just randomly crash(only happened once to me though), sometimes you dont crash when you should, use never worked for me, and while it's not a bug, it was almost impossible to see the runs diffrent from the snow on the side.
With all of that said though, it's still fun. I find myself fixated on doing soem very specific weird stuff, and it's fun to try to complete those goals. The controls aren't great, but if you switch it from being a snow sport simulator to just being a weird fun game, it works. It's very early acsess, but it's still fun. Good concept, and I can't wait to see it improve.

Got into the closed beta when it first came out and loved it. Played it for more that 100 hours. But they slowed down production and for a while it seemed the project was dead, so I stopped playing. A while later I went on youtube and saw that it was all over my front page and I was super excited because I thought they came out of beta and added all they promised! But the reason it was on the front page was because they completely broken the game and all of its physics (or lack there of). I was dissapointed but still had some fun with my friends. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OSEQj2VqdQ&ab_channel=XenoBurger
Just today I got a message from steam saying that they finally added snowboarding, the one thing that I wanted from this game, but seemed like an unachievable goal. I was curious to see what they've added and the game is now huge. Its honestly amazing to me that they have gotten this far. Can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Snowboarding is buggy as hell, and when you're switch stance(goofy), flipping controls are reversed. Like pushing up on the analog intending to do a frontflip results in a backflip which is confusing, and should be addressed. There aren't any rail sounds either with the snowboard. Both skiing and snowboarding have issues with uncontrollable choppiness when somehow "stuck" moving through the ground (hard to explain but you know what I'm talking about). Can't believe the snowmobile wasn't provided for free to those of us who actually paid for the game before it was made free to play. Other then that its a great game with lots of different terrain and the graphics are great.

Oh yeah, and adding support for Oculus Rift CV1 and Vive would be amazing.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I am limited to placing 2 drop points and this is extremely frustrating since you can't select which one to override with a new drop point, as it will always override the older one. We should have unlimited number of drop points, as well as the option to select and delete them. Also with the new update I can't land the fun and unrealistically massive jumps even when lined up properly with the ground.

I saw this on featured on the front of the store, thought I'd give it a whirl. It's a modest sized download, looks pretty good, sounds absolutely wonderful and is a bit of fun. My time has thus far been consumed by the downhills on skis, the snowboard was a bit like a slippery version of Tony Hawk's for me. Good fun, have a crack.

It is impossible to not sound thirteen years old when playing or describing this game. There is no hyperbole too grandiose for the genre-blurring open-world ski-sim experience that is SNOW. I rarely review games, but this one moved me to tell you to play it NOW.

I've never played the game before so this is my first shot at playing and I can't recommend it so far.

Like many others here in the discussions I can't complete the snowboard tutorial because the "Basic Grab" is failing to register a green tick even though you obviously grabbed the board and landed it. I did see a developer say that this would be fixed today when responding to someone else with this problem so I'm more than happy to try again later or tomorrow.

I also can't complete the skiing tutorial, when you complete the 720 attempt and complete that section the game puts you at the beginning of the 720 tutorial again even though you did it and the game registered it with the green tick.

After playing a little while longer it seems there are some problems with controller support. Controls will just stop working completely if I crash into something and then I can't exit unless I use the keyboard (also can't exit from the main menu with the controller, have to use the keyboard). Pausing the game while playing with the controller also doesn't work as the Pause screen strangely swipes from right to left on the screen with the assigned button so you have to use the keyboard ESC key to actually get the Pause screen. If I get to a point that I can end the session properly (default hold Y on the controller) the game will then stay on the "waiting for server" screen forever and then you have to alt-tab out of the game and close it manually. The "Exit To Desktop" option also causes the game to crash.

Changing the time of day doesn't work either, hitting Right on the D pad causes the time of day to continually loop extremely quickly.

Menus are very messy while in game, sometimes the pause screen randomly overlays while you're playing or doesn't appear when you want it to, and will overlay when you restart from a checkpoint - while your controls still function with the controller you have to hit ESC on the keyboard to remove the Pause Game overlay. The replay function is also very twitchy and often doesn't respond to commands at all.

When the controls do work they seem sluggish and a bit clunky with the snowboarder. Over-rotation is a huge problem and there seems to be little you can do about it (if realism is the aim here then that's fine). It's also incredibly difficult to get any speed up unless you start on the edge of a cliff. Controls with the skier seem much more polished. (I did notice that snowboarding was a very recent addition so that would make sense).

Is grinding possible? do you just jump at a rail and hope? lol, if this is mentioned in the tutorial obviously I haven't reached that far since I can't complete either of them but I can't seem to find any info on this anywhere and the few mentions in the discussion here haven't been very helpful.

If there were some text/image/video-based tutorials in the menu of the home screen that would be fantastic!

so far it's more frustrating than anything else. I'm failing to see what a lot of the positive reviewers are talking about.

The gaem is stunning graphics wise and i like the fact there is real brands it makes the game have some realism. I would like to see more brands in game like climbing makes and kit but the animations for the characters jumping and manovers needs to be worked and i understand its in beta but this game will be a 10/10 in my books if this is fixed well done on a game ive been looking for.

Honestly, SNOW has to be one of the best games I have played, hands down the best game I have played in the last few years.
The developers are super helpful, quickly responding and solving any question I had in literally under 30 minutes.
I’ve played SNOW since one of the pretty earlier alphas, it has come a long way since then.
SNOW seems to do, everything you could expect, even from hyped up “expectation” videos. Great skiing, amazing cinematic graphics, even small details that, just made the game like a drone you can fly a drone around, getting great cinematic shots of you and your friends, they even have made 2 extra models, one of the DJI Inspire 1.
Old, very old video I made of SNOW:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zujMGMY0HDw

I’d highly recommend trying it out, it’s even free to play now!

Finally a good snowsports game for PC, sick soundtrack, active devs, good graphics, and smooth controls for the most part. Things can feel clunky at times but definitely a lot of fun, especially considering it's free now.

Hitting fences and doing frontflips is the best.
10/10 would bomb hills again.
