Velocity Ultra is a different spaceship game. The focus here isn't to fight enemies, but solving puzzles and rescue survivors while you run against the clock. You have the ability to teleport, and this adds a nice and refreshing new mechanic to the genre. The controls take some time to get used, and it's a bit hard to master at the start, but with some practice you'll do well. It's important to say that this is not a bullet hell title. If you are looking for a completely new experience, you might give this game a try.

A puzzle-flavored shoot-em-up game. Simple but polished and intense. The trailer gives a good sense for what you're getting, so all I really need to add is: Yes, it's as fun as it looks. The levels are short and sweet and sweet. Different stages alternate their focus between puzzles, speedy navigating, and shooting/dodging, so there's a nice feeling of variety. The shooting is pretty forgiving (your ship can take multiple hits) so extreme shmup skills aren't required. The real challenge comes in going for speed.

The gift that just keeps on giving. Every time you think you've seen the last this game has to show you, out comes another ability from the bottomless box of tricks. After a fumbly start, you soon find yourself zipping and teleporting around the brilliantly designed levels like Nightcrawler or suhin'.

Velocity®Ultra is a new(at least for me) twist on the slowly fading Shmup genre. The concept is simple: save all survivors, take out threats, and complete each stage as fast as possible. The twist to this game is that you have to teleport from area to area in order to complete these tasks. Where many shmup's difficulty stems from bullet hell, Velocity®Ultra's challenge comes from fast pace manuvering. The game's fluid and tight mechanics are its stong point. However, this is what will make or break you during your play. In other words, it's a perfectionist type of game. Learning how to navigate/teleport as quickly as possible while rescuing all survivors as quickly as possible is a rewarding challenge. Visually, its easy on the eyes. It boasts a cartoonish art style which is a nice touch, offering a different atmosphere than most shmups. However, It can be somewhat repetetive. Each of it's 40+ stages is just a slight variation over the others. Then again, for the under 5 bucks I payed for it, I can't complain. I think there's a lot of potential this title and I look forward to any future installments.

It's worth a damn money!
Control's bit tricky at first, but very unique and addicting if you get use to it!
It's not bullet hell type game, but rather a Radiant Silvergun kinda of puzzle shooter.
Buy it! :D

To be fair, i bought the game in a bundle and therefore got it without actually wanting it. Still i am a huge fan of scroll shooters and tried it out.

In Velocity Ultra you try to rescue as many survivors as possible and finish the level as fast as you can to gain the maximum score.

While this is a different approach to the scroll shooter genre than the usual "kill everything", it doesnt seem to work very well. Even though all levels are different, they just feel the same, as all you do is collecting rescue pods that are hard to reach.

The fights feel really bad, as the opponets ships are all looking the same, are not animated and just feel wrong. They die in one shot and even though you get special weapons, its no difference as they are not fighting back. As the screenshots tell, this changes at some point, but the game was so boring that i couldnt make it to those levels without falling asleep.

The only challenge in this game comes from the high speed and the locations of the rescue pods that need to be collected.
A game that is about getting the best time and score, should offer scoreboards and allow the player to compete for the best time. However, in velocity ultra there is simply a maximum score you can get which totally desotroys the competition.

I recommend watching a couple of videos before hitting the "buy" button, as this is not the typical scroll shooter. As a huge fan of scroll shooters, I did not like this game at all.

Velocity Ultra is amazing, it feels like an HD remake of an imaginative Amiga game, down to its soundtrack. Game got it all: puzzles, racing, shoot 'em up, super twitchy and incredible responsive controls.

Velocity Ultra is a fast paced mix of shoot'em up and puzzle solving.

You control a ship that can fire lasers as well as teleport and you navigate through 50 levels with your main objectives being rescuing as many survivors as possible and finishing the level as fast as possible. You can teleport at will anytime, any distance and at whatever angle you wish, your only restriction being that you need to see your arrival point on the screen.

The game focuses less on the shmup combat and mostly uses the enemies as obstacles in your attempt to rescue all the survivors in a level ( which consists of flying your ship into them, like collecting a power-up). Survivors are spread around the level, often surrounded by enemies or impenetrable force fields that require you to activate switches in a specific order to deactivate them.

You can also speed up your ship, meaning that the screen will scroll faster. This is primarily used to get a better score for a level but some levels will demand that you use this feature as much as possible by implementing a short time limit.

At about the 33% mark, the game introduces the ability to place beacons at any point in a level, allowing you to teleport back to said beacon even if the screen scrolled past it. This paves the way for much more complex and enjoyable levels, with maze navigation becoming an important factor in your success.

The game has very tight controls and a great soundtrack. The art style is fine, but there is not much detail in the graphics.

Overall the gameplay feels innovative and very very fun.

+ Pretty fun if you treat it more like a puzzle/racing game than a shmup (pretty much the point anyway according to the developers) and get used to the teleporting mechanic
+ Enough variety in the level types to avoid being repetitive
+ Alright soundtrack
+ Challenging but not ridiculously so (memorization is the key)

- Bombs are broken (read- spammable) and make most of the game's enemies a joke (forget using the regular gun for anything but breaking glass)
- Controls for teleporting can troll you even if you're precise with where you target
- Soundtrack gets annoying when you constantly have to restart levels
- Most of the unlockables are either pointless crap like a calculator or Minesweeper (why is there an achievement for beating a LUCK-BASED game) or inferior clones of older games (If I wanted to play Bomberman or Space Invaders, I'd play the real thing)
