I'm not sure what to make of this.

It goes everywhere, yet nowhere all at once.

And the Pope's out to kill you? You're missing your butt?

It's a decent platformer though.

Was hoping for a good platformer with some difficulty that rewards good platforming ability, with good levels, mechanics, etc, but this game was anything but that. This game is "difficult". But its one of those games thats hard for all the wrong reasons. I almost never felt death was my fault, and that is because it was usually due to poor game design decisions. First off, there are checkpoints, but there aren't enough. You will go through multiple really tough parts, and where a good game would reward you with checkpoints along the way, this game makes you repeat those sections if you die due to lack of checkpoints. This also doesn't help due to the tons of single pixel platforms and auto jumpers, usually stacked in a row, where if you aren't perfect you die. The platforming is decent, but you fall too fast and don't have enough control ability in the air. The game could have really used a double jump.

The music and visuals are pretty cool. The level design is horrible. First off, this game the level moves to the side or up at a predetermined fast pace, which makes it act like a runner or speedrun game, which is lazy design. You should be able to play a tough game at your own speed, forcing quickrunning through obstacles to increase death and repetition is stupid and unnecessary. In other levels the screen moves way too slow, forcing you to stand around while you get shot at, which once again is stupid for the same reasons above. You can kill enemies and rockets, but for some dumb reason, jumping on them doesn't work. You have to jump above them and then use a slam key to hit down on them. Especially in a game with forced speed running and level moving, this design decision makes no sense and is clunky and slows down the pace. The worst offense and design of the entire game is the missles. A well designed game would find tons of single pixel platforms, or even the forced speed running by level scrolling to be enough, but not for this game. Tons of levels have these homing missiles shot at you as you move across it. They can go through solid objects you can't (strike 1), they continually spawn even if you destroy them (strike 2), they go on forever, and never disappear (strike 3), they are faster then you (strike 4), and they shoot tons at once (strike 5). Its super stupid you can't avoid them to make them disappear or crash into platforms and they just keep coming, and you can't do anything about them besides use bad combat system. Dying to them never feels like it's your fault. Combine that with the decreased or super increased speed of level moving, and the lack of checkpoints, single pixel platforms, and its hard due to poor design for the sake of being "hard". Yes you die a ton so people who play it continuosly repeating the same sections tons of times due to cheap deaths and finally being perfect long enough to beat the level think theyre "hardcore", but who cares what they think. Anyone can make a game hard by poor design, but making a well made game where when you die its your fault, without superficial difficulty designed to force repetition and perfect runs, that is tough. Take a game like Mr. Bree. That was a well made game that is better than this game in every single way, and you should just play instead.

If you want a game where you die a ton due to poor level and game mechanic design, then pick this. If you want a good and fair game that rewards skill and is enjoyable to play and get better at, look the other way.

3/10.

Still surprised i just got the game. I've been missing out. The second i hopped on the game, the soundtrack immediatly gave me a smile, trance and techno give off a good vibe for pretty much every level you play on. The gameplay is very easy to learn, as far as controls are concerned, but as you progress through the levels, you learn that the game does gradually get more and more challenging, not in a fustrating way, but in a "I know i can beat this level" way. The game offers alot of levels and dlc's for you to play on, so you could always give yourself alittle challenge know and then. Yet, overall, the game really had no extreme or even minor take-aways. It;s just a fun groovy side-scroller.

My Score: 10/10

WARNING! If you have a tendency to have seizures, migraines, or motion sickness do not buy this game! Electronic Super Joy has a awesome soundtrack and thats what attracted me to this game. The platforming isn't as good as it should be, hit detection is off, the controls can be a little flakey and the flashy graphics are headache inducing. Where is the warning on the storepage about the extreme flashiness, strobe effects, and too bright colors? You should really warn people prone to migraines and epilepsy about the game before they buy, instead of warning them in game after they purchase it. I played for about 25 minutes, got a migraine which causes kaleidoscope vision, then numbness, then dizziness and nausea. I would ask for a refund but its been way over the time limit.

Alright, let's get some things clear, if you enjoy simple beautiful in level design, spending time screaming your essence out and clawing at your patience, if you have played other extreme platformer games then I'm sure you'll be able to handle this game...
I bought it because I liked the challenge and loved the simple design, and after spending some time in the basement crying over world 3, I can say that this game does stand as simple but misleading for the Casual Player, certainly being a bit-too extreme at times, this game becomes more fun the more you're willing to play it. So, that makes it both a blessing and a curse.
Now, the graphics of this game are quite nice and remind me of sunsets, but combined with monsters with lasers trying
to zap your face off to the groove.
Speaking of groove, the game has an incredible soundtrack by the artist EnV. The music is
bouncy and funky and really adds colour to the way you play the game.

Sarks Proverb: The average gamer should feel welcome to play this game to enhance his/her gaming capability.
Those who play the game because it's something their skilled at have accepted a good challenge (hint, hint, get the game)

Bravo, Micheal Todd, you've created something tastefully simple but inconceivably diffuclt.
A good metaphor to keep in mind is that this game is like a chinese finger trap, the design is simple in theory but will swiftly pull the average person into a prison where the only way out is through ambitious thoughts and careful planning.

Electronic Super Joy is a hardcore platformer with an amazing soundtrack. It isn't that expensive for what you get out of it and it is still fun to play after you finish the game just to try and beat your own scores etc.
You run, jump, smash and fly your way through more than 45(!) weird and well designed platform levels with low-gravity, world rotation, giant monsters and swarming missiles. There are so many different and interesting concepts in this game and it is just a good time :P

As I was jumping my way through the game I constantly found myself headbanging to the music and just having a lot of fun. As of the story, there is not that much too it, it mostly contains of butts and bad puns. So if you were looking for a brutally difficult platformer with a "good" story, this might not be for you although I enjoyed every bit of it!
Something else to note is that this is a very over the top game with a lot of flashing lights so if that is what you're looking for then go ahead and buy it ;)

Electronic Super Joy is an overall satisfying and well done hardcore platformer filled with bad puns, awesome electronic styled music and more(see disclaimer at the start of the game).
If all of the above or some of it is to your liking then this game is for you my friend! :D

Difficult levels, platforms that turn into missiles, rainbow cannons, seziure inducing raves, an AMAZING mindf*ck soundtrack, sex noises, the story of a guy who lost his butt, an evil pope, a giant killer dinosaur-esque monster that shoots f*ckbeams out of his eyes, and enough pink to cure breast cancer.

10/10 would rave again
