Reviews

“If you haven’t played Men Of War before, then this is a rich and rewarding place to start. And you really should play something in this series if you have the faintest whiff of interest in RTS, because it is one of the great masterworks. To not play it is to waste your life.”
Rock, Paper, Shotgun

“With a substantial graphical upgrade, a bunch of new units and a fleshed out multiplayer component (as well as skirmishes, finally), every fan is bound to get hours upon hours of fun, visceral and emergent gameplay. In case you haven't had contact with an Assault Squad game and you're an RTS gamer, you will not be disappointed. That's a recommendation right there.”
Mouse N Joypad

“Accidentally discovering something awesome will soon become a four-word summary of my time with Assault Squad 2. [...] I love Assault Squad 2, but it was not an easy romance. Its brutal difficulty spikes and hands-off approach to training should serve as a warning to all but the most grizzled of armchair generals: this game is war, and war is hell.”

As an RTS gamer, I expected this game to be similar to Company of Heroes or StarCraft. I was so very wrong.
((I came into this game with no experience of MoW 1))

Pros
-Excellent selection of units; and when there isn't something there, there's a mod for that.
-Large-scale battles
-Lots of micro required
-Reasonable tutorial level
-Level creation

Cons
-Selecting a group of units can be finicky
-Lots of micro required (it's a love/hate relationship)
-Lag spikes are easily enough to crash a good PC (can be said for most RTS therefore isn't really a complaint)

All in all, good game. I won't comment on price because Steam Sale is a thing. 7/10, would recommend.

The "game" is simulation. If you've ever wondered how a King Tiger provoked nothing but terror, what a Bofors cannon would do to a village, or how the MG-42 ambushed it's prey, well this game's for you. It's as graphically stunning as it is enlightening. I've learned more about mid century warfare from this game than any predecessor. The amount of tools and tanks you get at your disposal leaves nothing to desire. Learn how mortars and MGs compliment each other and utilize single soldiers at the touch of a key.

In this game there is "no god" or little to no random number generating. If you don't like how a unit is performing hit a key and micromanage it to victory. Hammer windows with high explosive tank rounds and push into crippled landscapes with your wily storm troopers.

The games not at fault, the hick-ups lie in the animations and AI. These should not deter your purchase. This game is striving for the moon in realism. It's essentially a WW2 sandbox with a decent campaign and extremely fun multiplayer.

When you Play Men of War: Assault Squad 2 you feel as tho you can relate to Rommel. The struggle is real. Those generals had a lot of variables to consider, and now so do you.

This game is by far my favorite RTS's out there! Very good game play and all together game. This game just needs the ability to have different factions on the same team, just so everyone gets to play as their favorite teams instead of playing as only two different teams. I know this game is old, but if the most people that have ever played are playing now then why not add more like 2v2v2v2 or free for alls and AI's? Other than all of that this game is awesome to play.

So i got MOWAS2 started playing with some mods and whatnot and then after about 3 months MOWAS2 decided to not launch and i verified the files i tired launching in safe mode the no mods one and that didnt work so im just going to say the game broke because something about SDL files is causing it to terminate the game which is sad because its a great game but in the end if this just happens and the game wont launch then unfortantely it cant be a good game so i would give this 8/10 on gameplay 6/10 on servers and 2/10 on how long it lasted so in the end i dont recommend this game if it just decides to not work randomly especially since its price is a little on the expensive side that and AI requires a DLC to use but yeah overall great game just doesnt work very well especially since im fairly certain this is just a overpriced reskin my overall score for this game is 5/10

Very good real-time strategy. It reflects the realities of World War 2 Moreover, the fate of the game can change even one soldier I can recommend 100%!
Of course, as every game has its pros and cons to mention below.
+ Strong emphasis on realism extra game is not easy is quite difficult and you have to toil.
+ Extensive vehicles with their damage, destruction, fuel, ammo which changes the very gameplay.
+ The ability to use the workshop
+ Models destruction and good physics
+ A large variety of units.
+ Unusual multiplayer games.
-Very Unfriendly game for beginners, both in playing the game and in the editor.
- Frequent crashes.
- Poor optimization of even the most powerful computers strong explosion is able to do the problem computer.
-Very Poor singleplayer campaign (fortunately, with the help of steam comes workshop)
In my opinion 8/10 because you have to remember that the game is in Beta and is still developing.

I am truly on the fence with MoW: AS II. On one hand, the game is quite solid and does not fail where its predecessor succeeded, but at the same time I see few improvements. The modding seems comprehensive and the multiplayer system is far more streamlined (In my opinion), yet, I find it hard to reccomend this title. There is simply too little built upon from the original by what I've seen. If this were on sale for a good price (which it typically is) I can reccomend picking it up. However, I bought this game at the current price ($29.99) and quickly refunded it, but I do intend to pick it back up later at a cheaper price.
As it stands, I can not suggest buying Men of War: Assault Squad II at full price. Just wait for the next big sale.

Commandos series was my favorite game, too bad Pyro Studios stop making them. Then I found this game accidently and fall in love with it. I recommend this game for any real time tactics geek out there. It fill the hole where Commandos series left us..

10/10 would play until Pyro decide to release sequel of Commandos.

Love this game, just picked the full package up on the sale so im still green but this game is great fun... its not like most other WW2 RTS.. make no mistake this game is not easy and there is a lot more to it than unit numbers...

community has been very good thus far helping rather than flaming so no problems there... devs are active and very helpfull...

impressed... just be ready to do some homework and getting you rear-end handed to you on a regular basis, dont expect to be causing mayhem right if the bat.. this requires some time to get things down...

if your into your RTS's this is a MUST BUY!..

ADDITIONAL:::

Im running this on a toaster of a rig on medium and have no issues at all, so for you guys wondering if your old rig will run it here ya go...

E8400 CORE2DUO running at 3.6mhz
5 gig ram @800mhz
GTX260 1 gig video card
an old seagate HD thats about to explode...

im getting around 40-50 FPS on this dropping to mid 30s if things get mental.. biggest thing to watch just like any RTS is player pings, keep em under and 100 and your rocking... 150 and above you start getting a bit choppy.... good thing the community very active and getting low ping games is not an issue, and i play late UK so im usually playing with US folks...

hope that helps those on older rigs

First off, let me begin by stating that I purchased the complete edition of this game when it was on sale for $10. If you already have the original Men of War: Assault Squad, I don't reccomend buying this game for full price. Wait until it goes on sale and grab the complete edition.

Alright, now that I've gotten that out of the way, let me begin my review. :)

This game is awesome, and for RTS lovers, a must buy. The detail is great and the options for battlefield tactics are unlimited. I haven't played a RTS that handles combat as well this does. If you're a Star Wars fan, get the Galaxy at War mod. It'll completely blow away the land battles in Empire at War.

Lastly, this game runs very well on my laptop. I have a Nvidia GeForce GT 640M (1GB Dedicated GDDR5) and I'm getting 60+ fps with little action and 30+ when the fighting is heavy on medium settings. Overall I reccomend this game to all RTS lovers.

One of the best strategy games I have ever played. Being extremely tactical and realistic, it is also quite difficult; even the ammo assigned to each individual soldier is to be kept under control!
Tank battles are far more realistic than they are in other similar games; vehicles can be crewed and uncrewed, damages depend on the kind of shell, on the distance from the target and on the hit part. Covers are nice, and it is possible to control the soldiers' stance (standing up, prone and so on) manually. Enemy vehicles, if abandoned and not completely destroyed, can be recovered and stolen. Anti tank guns are really effective against tanks, but there is always a certain amount of randomness which makes everything unpredictable and suspencing. Every action has to be planned accurately, and unreasoned and silly moves are very likely to cause disastrous outcomes; there is a nice reinforcements mechanism which depends on the controlled checkpoints, and new weapons are available on the field after a new checkpoint has been conquered.
The only bad thing is that, during multiplayer battles, reinforcements are automatically split among players, causing messy situations ("who called this sniper?" "Can I have your Panzer, or you desperately need it?"). It is possible to send units to an ally player, but this takes time and can be pretty annoying.

10/10 One of the best RTS games I've ever played, up there with battles in Rome Total War. Although this game requires a learning curve, once you learn it, it can be a hell of a lot of fun. The amount of units give you a wide variety of ways to deal with the enemy, this goes for both the campaign and the multiplayer. However this game does have its bugs and glitches and does require pretty good internet and decent PC/Laptop to run, the awesome clutch moments and hilarious moments you can have completely outwiegh all of that. The mods are alos really good, making realism even better although a little bit harder, I suggest you rack up a few hours of the vanilla game before taking mods on because they really change gameplay. If you love the World War 2 time period and love RTS games, this should be your dream to play, however if you play War Thunder, a few things are different so keep that in mind. Little side note before I stop, the game has a LOT OF EXPLOSIONS, LIKE A SH*T TON. THERE ARE EXPLOSIONS THAT MAKE VEHICLES DO 360 SPINS 100 FEET IN THE AIR, IT IS F*CKING AWESOME! BUY THIS GAME!

Anyway, no Doctrines/Commanders in Company of Heroes. Nope utilize all if not most weapons of each faction. You got points for infantry and vehicles? Yes? Then send those motherf*ckers in, or be the as*hole that hordes points and saves for OP sh*t.

MOWAS2 is tons of fun and i'd really recommend it if you're into this type of game and ww2. Basically you control units under your command to invade and capture the enemy's territory. It's exciting and really makes you think before you make a move. You have to pay attention to where the enemy is located, where they're going to be attacking you from, and what weapons you're going to need. Multiplayer is pretty awesome too. I love 2v2 because of the teamwork. For example, If you have a lonely AT cannon and need some more defense your teammate will send you a heavy MG to fight alongside.

If you get bored of the same old units then you can also try installing a couple of mods that are to your liking. Some of these mods can be used in multiplayer and in the editor. I use the editor to have my own battles using Galaxy at War clone units.

This game would be by far one of the funnest games I could get into, If only it had a proper in game tutorial, The first hour I played I struggled to figure out how to do anything. It doesnt teach you how to gain fire superiority, it doesn't teach you proper placement of troops. You go into a fight half cocked because you have to souly use improv, just to win the fight. The game is good Id recommend it to most RTS style players who have a sense of know how. But unless this game takes the negative reviews about the game and uses it to make the game better, it will no longer have my attention. 6/10 for lack of teaching its players properly

This game is a bit of a conundrum for me. On the one hand I love playing it, and Co-Op is my thing. Using clever tactics and wits to fight your enemies is very gratifying. Online vs. players is wonderful but honestly I just suck too much at it to have a ton fun. On the other hand the AI is LAME, like they spent about 20 minutes on it and decided that since it went places automatically then it was fine. I miss the cool maps and missions of the old Men of War games. Still, because of the entrenched enemies and the constantly annoying reinforcement of tanks and things it’s still challenging to play with online. This game is a ton of fun and I would suggest this game to anyone.
