Reviews

“If you haven’t played Men Of War before, then this is a rich and rewarding place to start. And you really should play something in this series if you have the faintest whiff of interest in RTS, because it is one of the great masterworks. To not play it is to waste your life.”
Rock, Paper, Shotgun

“With a substantial graphical upgrade, a bunch of new units and a fleshed out multiplayer component (as well as skirmishes, finally), every fan is bound to get hours upon hours of fun, visceral and emergent gameplay. In case you haven't had contact with an Assault Squad game and you're an RTS gamer, you will not be disappointed. That's a recommendation right there.”
Mouse N Joypad

“Accidentally discovering something awesome will soon become a four-word summary of my time with Assault Squad 2. [...] I love Assault Squad 2, but it was not an easy romance. Its brutal difficulty spikes and hands-off approach to training should serve as a warning to all but the most grizzled of armchair generals: this game is war, and war is hell.”

Hard game play, you never win a match in hereos mode without statify at least 100 troops, 30 viechels, not like COH, you can control every single person in a troops for difference task, beward that there is a limited in aim and magazines, also fuel, therefore, you need to have a lot of plans to choice in the battle, because if you keep moving your tanks left to right or right to left of the maps, your tank will be out of fuel and have to stop somewhere....may be get ambush....if you are new to the game and playing Multi-player matchs, Germany is the best option with planty of aim...

As an RTS gamer, I expected this game to be similar to Company of Heroes or StarCraft. I was so very wrong.
((I came into this game with no experience of MoW 1))

Pros
-Excellent selection of units; and when there isn't something there, there's a mod for that.
-Large-scale battles
-Lots of micro required
-Reasonable tutorial level
-Level creation

Cons
-Selecting a group of units can be finicky
-Lots of micro required (it's a love/hate relationship)
-Lag spikes are easily enough to crash a good PC (can be said for most RTS therefore isn't really a complaint)

All in all, good game. I won't comment on price because Steam Sale is a thing. 7/10, would recommend.

The "game" is simulation. If you've ever wondered how a King Tiger provoked nothing but terror, what a Bofors cannon would do to a village, or how the MG-42 ambushed it's prey, well this game's for you. It's as graphically stunning as it is enlightening. I've learned more about mid century warfare from this game than any predecessor. The amount of tools and tanks you get at your disposal leaves nothing to desire. Learn how mortars and MGs compliment each other and utilize single soldiers at the touch of a key.

In this game there is "no god" or little to no random number generating. If you don't like how a unit is performing hit a key and micromanage it to victory. Hammer windows with high explosive tank rounds and push into crippled landscapes with your wily storm troopers.

The games not at fault, the hick-ups lie in the animations and AI. These should not deter your purchase. This game is striving for the moon in realism. It's essentially a WW2 sandbox with a decent campaign and extremely fun multiplayer.

When you Play Men of War: Assault Squad 2 you feel as tho you can relate to Rommel. The struggle is real. Those generals had a lot of variables to consider, and now so do you.

This game is by far my favorite RTS's out there! Very good game play and all together game. This game just needs the ability to have different factions on the same team, just so everyone gets to play as their favorite teams instead of playing as only two different teams. I know this game is old, but if the most people that have ever played are playing now then why not add more like 2v2v2v2 or free for alls and AI's? Other than all of that this game is awesome to play.

So i got MOWAS2 started playing with some mods and whatnot and then after about 3 months MOWAS2 decided to not launch and i verified the files i tired launching in safe mode the no mods one and that didnt work so im just going to say the game broke because something about SDL files is causing it to terminate the game which is sad because its a great game but in the end if this just happens and the game wont launch then unfortantely it cant be a good game so i would give this 8/10 on gameplay 6/10 on servers and 2/10 on how long it lasted so in the end i dont recommend this game if it just decides to not work randomly especially since its price is a little on the expensive side that and AI requires a DLC to use but yeah overall great game just doesnt work very well especially since im fairly certain this is just a overpriced reskin my overall score for this game is 5/10

Commandos series was my favorite game, too bad Pyro Studios stop making them. Then I found this game accidently and fall in love with it. I recommend this game for any real time tactics geek out there. It fill the hole where Commandos series left us..

10/10 would play until Pyro decide to release sequel of Commandos.

Losing a game?

Spawn hundreds of infantrymen and rush at enemy posistions.

Watch in horror as the map is painted red in the blood of your men.

Oh? You thought it'd work?

No. They have Hanz on an MG42.

Company of Heroes: Assault Squad 2
The endless reinforcements neutralizes a big part of the tactical focus that was so important in the other games
There are only 8 single player missions repeated with 5 factions, it is actually amazing how they kept the missions so similar.
There is no plot and the missions are dull.

Basically you are only paying for the multiplayer and for a platform to use mods.

I am truly on the fence with MoW: AS II. On one hand, the game is quite solid and does not fail where its predecessor succeeded, but at the same time I see few improvements. The modding seems comprehensive and the multiplayer system is far more streamlined (In my opinion), yet, I find it hard to reccomend this title. There is simply too little built upon from the original by what I've seen. If this were on sale for a good price (which it typically is) I can reccomend picking it up. However, I bought this game at the current price ($29.99) and quickly refunded it, but I do intend to pick it back up later at a cheaper price.
As it stands, I can not suggest buying Men of War: Assault Squad II at full price. Just wait for the next big sale.

This is the most frustrating game I have ever played, but somehow I keep coming back for more. I love playing RTS games, and this one is on top of my list. Every unit is important during the game play. Each one gets their own inventory, with access other units as well. While they start with limited ammo, you can search the dead for more.

Like any game, it has it's down falls. The biggest peeve I have is with enemy units being able to see mine across the map, while I can't see them. The more I play this, the more the AI for each unit seems to get dumber. I had one unit run circles around an enemy as I clicked for it to attack, literally doing circles like a dog around your legs. It has a lot of little things that make you scream at the game because it's so frustrating. But it's so addicting, I keep going back for more.

Micro managing is crucial with this game, making it very difficult to master. The enemy AI (Easy, Normal, Hard, Heroic) are all challenging, almost impossible to play without other friends. Which is one amazing aspect because you can play every mission with up to 7 other players LAN or internet. Don't expect to beat a good mission in a short amount of time this game takes lots of time.

I don't like the personal leveling for this game. You have to beat an entire mission to get an exp., this counts for first person controlling of a unit as well. There could be an actual storyline for each campaign, not just the same ten missions for each country.

Every unit is extraordinary. The detail, the movements, even the gunfire immerses you. The sounds and feels of the game are amazing.

This game still has quite a few bugs, as I cannot load a saved game right from the main menu. I once had an invincible enemy unit enter the field, an every unit I had could not take it out. So I had to restart the mission, very frustrating since it was the largest tank at the end of the mission. Also many times main mission objectives don't activate, making you restart the mission.

THE UNIT AI IS HORRENDOUS!! They are always standing up by themselves, which in turn is a death sentence in this game. Medics do not do anything but create another target for the enemy, same with units that have AT grenades/ rockets.
I wish there was tutorial missions to get you into the flow of the combat, that way you can use every aspect of the game.

I've downloaded some mods, and they bring this game to a whole new level. The talent some of these people have makes you think they work for the developers.

This game is both the best ww2 title out there and the worst disaster of a game at the same time. It holds some great game elements as well as some absolute game design disasters. It is sad to see so much potential getting wasted.

First, the good stuff:
  • Let me begin by saying this: After playing this game for a bit, other titles like Company of Heroes really started to look like jokes.
  • Both infantry and armor gameplay are awesome.
  • The multiplayer game experience in itself is awesome. No other words for it. It has a very good tempo. The stakes are always high. So much can change in a split second. The balance between infantry and armor is top notch. The arcade element is there and it rewards good play. The best part is, this game is doing all this while keeping a very good amount of realism and detail.
  • All the factions that the game comes with. Like, really. I see so many people complaining about AI not being free. Ok maybe thats wrong but you guys realize that this is pretty much one of the few ww2 titles that comes with five factions right? Thats gotta mean something.
  • The mod support. There are mods featuring even the tiniest of ww2 factions. Wanna play as french in 1940? you got it. Would you prefer to play as Poland? Sure thing! You want the game to be much more spectacular and realistic? Tired ot the games linear and unimaginative skirmishes? Do you want to play with star wars factions? Hell, do you want a mod of a weeb anime about schoolgirls and tanks? You have it all. With all the mods there are out there, the vanilla game feels like a mere demo of the full experience. And make no mistake, the vanilla game still has a lot of content.

Yeah, it sounds awesome right, Now for the bad stuff:
  • Multiplayer matchmaking system. It's not just bad, it practically doesn't exist. You don't have any way to just hop in and play, you have to host a game, wait for people to join in (which takes so much as 20 minutes sometimes) and you have no idea if they are in your level or not. It can be a nice competitive match or just an absolute massacre. This is the result of trying to implement restricted units and having downright unimaginative stupid map designs for current ingame matchmaking system. A game like this shoud have had dedicated matchmaking for individual mods.
  • Too many settings for multiplayer. This is not supposed to be a problem, but when the matchmaking is broken, some people will never learn about the proper balanced settings of the game.
  • The skirmishes are linear and repetitive. If you want good single player content you have to go to the workshop.
  • The difficulty setting of the skirmishes are downright ridiculous. I mean seriously, changing damage infantry takes? I mean how dimwitted you have to be for not realising doing that changes the game's mechanics completely? Being able to run at a mechinegun fire just kills the games experience and gives the beginners wrong expectations about everything. Not to mention that it defeats the whole purpose of having a single player campaign which is primarily educating the player for full multiplayer experience.
  • Infantry animations look cheap. It is the first thing most of the newcomers will notice and it doesn't hold up with the rest of the game.
  • Bugs and out of sync issues. Which is much better by now but having constant out of snyc problems for more than year after the launch is pretty bad. Along with the broken matchmaking, this is the reason why so few people play it today.
  • DLCs are not well thought out. Seriously, mods are better.

The developers of this game made a great product but somehow it seems like they don't really understand what makes it so great. And they don't seem to understand some of the most fundamental gamer expectations. All that said, I would still recommend this game. Even with all the dlc's the price is a bloody steal for all the content it provides. BUT keep in mind that its rough around some of the edges that it really shouldn't have been.

Well, let's start off by saying, this is one of the most the most addictive game that I have player so far. I completely lost track of time while playing this. Just 2 - 3 missions can take 3 hours. I decided that I wanted to play one day. Ended up playing from 11:30pm to 2:30 am. When I stopped, I thought it was still 9 o' clock.
10/10 would lose track of time again.
