Note: Summary at the bottom of the review.

The second "Ace Patrol" game, "Pacific Skies" is a turn-based strategy (TBS) game that is small in scope, simple, yet very engaging and nice to pick up and play for a bit. There really aren't that many historical air combat TBS games out there, so it is hard to compare it to anything else. It feels a bit like a smartphone-port, yet the controls work well so I cannot really say that this is a drawback in itself. The game IS casual, so do not expect it to have overly much complexity to it. The core of the game is assigning different maneuvers to your pilot(s), trying to put them in the best position to shoot down the enemy. As you progress, you unlock new maneuvers and gain new planes and improvements.

Pro:
*Simple, engaging pick-up-and-play gameplay.
*Both sides are balanced the same.
*Has a certain charm to its style.

Con:
*Not that much depth to it.

Summary:
A fun little TBS game that will cater to your desire for a casual TBS experience, Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies is worth its pricetag so long as you do not expect anything with too much depth and complexity to it. 6/10 - Recommended.

It's a pretty good game, for a $5.00 game. Some of the animations when the planes maneuver clearly weren't finished or half heartedly put together. Other then that it's a very fun casual game.

Ace Patrol Pacific Skies is basically the exact same game as Ace Patrol (which was set in WW1) moved to WW2 Pacific Theater where you play the Japanese side or the American side.

The game is best described as a turn-based air combat where you move planes from hex to hex, where the "attitude" and "altitude" of the plane, as well as the skill of the pilot, determines what moves you can make. If you are low, you can't use a power dive (drop several levels of altitude) or "falling leaf" (drop several levels of altitude and face a specific direction), for example, or if you were in a left turn, you can't immediately switch to a sharp right turn (unless you learned "roll" manuevers). This is harder to explain than to see for yourself by watching the videos.

You control 2 or 4 planes and corresponding pilots. As pilots make "kills" they gain experience that can be translated to better power moves. So it's not good if you let one pilot do all the killing... Share the bounty.

In a bit of ahistorical equality, there are female pilots (fortunately, you can turn that off).

Try not to let your pilots get shot down. They can be kept prisoner or end up in hospital for several missions. The planes themselves can also be damaged and repairs are not instantaneous.

Typically you have about 6 missions per "year" and there's a big mission at the end. and 4 years in a campaign. You are scored based on how much damage you caused, did you complete your objective (such as taking out a ground target), vs. how much damage did you suffer.

If you like Ace Patrol, Pacific Skies is the same game with faster planes.

Badly ported mobile game.

Had high hopes since I am a big fan of Sid Meier but I would avoid this game.

Basically the same game as the original Ace Patrol, except it somehow looks a lot worse. Get the original instead, preferably on a tablet.

Game keeps crashing (reboots). When it does work, it isn't any fun. Horrible graphics hurt my eyes. Sid Meier actually put his name on this ♥♥♥♥?

Keeps crashing for no reason

Update: I now have a new computer, now actually works. Still, the game is horrible and buggy. Has a good idea though.

Good for wasting time with but not especially deep. Fun mechanics like you would expect from a Sid Meier game, and it really benefits from having a touch screen capable pc.

I can't even play this. It keeps crashing before I get to the main menu, and I have tried this on two computers, one of them being able to run Civ 5, Borderlands 2 and SR2 and 3 with no problems.

Very nice funny and happy game except one thing although there is an option to save the game there isn't one to load your saved games when you are inside the game only in the front page before starting one, weird first time have seen that. Also there isn't an exit botton inside the campaigns.

More of the same in the series but an enjoyable 10-15 min time waster.
