This is the second extension for Maya LT 2015. For people who subscribe to Maya LT through Steam, the app will automatically update if you have auto-updates enabled. If you have the auto-updates turned off, we definitely recommend getting this latest release, which adds several new features that were highly requested by our user community.

What version of Maya LT is on Steam?

Work with game engines
Work with the game creation tools best-suited to your needs. Maya LT exports in the commonly supported FBX and OBJ formats so you can work with many popular game engines and development tools. Send to Unity is a special option that exports your scene or model selection straight to your Unity project folder.

Improve your day-to-day workflow
Maya LT has plenty of tools that make it faster to get your daily work done, and easier to work with team members. MEL scripts can be used to customize some of the more repetitive or mundane parts of a 3D workflow and can be saved into custom buttons and hotkeys for easy access. New cloud integrations with Autodesk 360 and Dropbox let you open and save your assets to those services directly from within Maya LT, for easier sharing with your team.

Create high quality 3D Models
Maya LT features the same great modeling tools found in Maya so you can create great-looking 3D characters, environments, or props for your game. Maya LT features great hi-res to low-res workflows so you can work with highly detailed, high-poly models and then make them more efficient for your game when you export.

Create textures and materials
ShaderFX is a visual, node-based material creation tool. That means you don’t need to manually code in HLSL, CLSL, or CgFX to create really high quality shaders. You can just drag and drop nodes, pick colors, move slides, and see your changes on the 3D model in the Maya LT Viewport in real-time. Maya LT also has features that let you easily browse, apply, and adjust materials created in Substance Designer.

Create and edit UV maps
Maya LT now has better-than-ever UVs through the super-fast unfolding algorithms found in the popular Unfold3D toolset. Artists can evaluate and then edit UVs quickly by manually refining seams, then use color-coded visual feedback systems to see where the UVs need adjusting. Nobody said UVs were super fun, but they don’t have to be a headache.

Animate your creations
Don’t get stuck on still content. Bring your game characters and environments to life with a variety of animation tools based on Maya and HumanIK animation software. Auto-generate bipedal skeletons with full-body inverse kinematics, then adjust them to fit your characters. The HumanIK system also lets you re-target your animations to similar game characters easily, so you don’t have to re-do the same animations over and over.

Work with live previews
Maya LT uses the same Viewport 2.0 found in Maya, so that you can work in an environment that closely depicts how characters and environments will appear in-game. Working in a tool with a viewport tailored for game development means less round-tripping between Maya LT and your game engine to make adjustments.

No transfer maps. Please bring this back in an update. This is a big part of game modeling and development even for indie games.

Great program - one of the easier to learn and powerful modeling packages out there. Exporting assets to UE4 is reasonably easy with only a small number of settings that need to be applied (all well documented on the web).

The biggest problem though is each asset exported (unless to Unity) is limited to 65,000 polygons which can be a bit of a show stopper - UE has some very cool LOD tech and polygon counts have gone up because of it.

Also it would be nice to have the ability to render sometimes - the Maya LT version does not render.

In a perfect world, Autodesk would give UE4 users the ability to export unlimited polys, and there would be the ability to render, maybe with a charge per final render...

Maya LT is a full-featured, powerful alternative to Maya/3DS Max, Blender, etc. Very intuitive, the export to Unity is very nice if you're working on something in Unity, and the newly added Unreal 4 support is extremely handy for those developing in UE4. 9/10 will be using for quite a while.

Really great program, however due to the poly limit and modeling capabilities, I would easily go with MODO Indie unless your company requires you to use Maya.

Having tried just about every 3D modeling software out there, free and otherwise, Maya has always been my favorite and go-to for anything even remotely geometric. That this is on steam for such a reasonable price is absolutely fantastic. The new features in this latest version specifically for people like me are awesome. I'll miss ncloth but that is about the only thing this version doesn't have that I enjoyed previously, and frankly, there are better programs now for such situations (ie. Marvelous Designer).

Opening this software as a complete newb to 3D modeling, I can understand why you'd be dizzy. There's a lot of buttons, tools and short cuts that I've had to learn over the years and I'm still finding new things all the time now. If you're serious about learning 3D modeling and you're looking for the right tool, there really is no other program on par with Maya. You're talking about a solid week of youtube tutorials and trial and error to learn enough to actually produce something of any value, especially if you're producing content for a specific engine or world... but it's more than worth the while to learn!

Autodesk, thank you thank you thank you for putting this on steam at a totally reasonable monthly rate. I am beyond happy to pay you this monthly subscription for this great tool instead of paying it to the IRS. Yes, self-employed artists, this is a muy, muy bueno tax deduction too~

EDIT: Previously had issues with .fbx file conversion to .dae. No longer! Everything works as intended with the converter. If you have issues with conversions, please feel free to message me or try searching the maya forums for the issue I had to see if said issues apply to you. They were my own stupidity.

Maya LT is one of the best and most user friendly modeling programs on the market right now. if you are serious about making models for games, animations, or for practice if you are just interested in making 3d art look no further. This program has vast tutorials and a huge help database to help you make your first item, animation, texture, or rig. Check those tutorials on the autodesk youtube page or for the help documination just go to their website. Don't bother with programs like fuse which is absolutly awful. this does all the things fuse does and like 100X more

Note: i want to make this clear, Maya LT is in no way or form a simple program. It is powerful and very easy to use for those familiar to it, But in order to use this program i spent 2 weeks watching tutorials and doing research. It is in no way user friendly to those unfamiar to modeling programs.

BUT if you are willing to research and learn how to use it this program is a wonderful start to your career or hobby and i would highly recomemend it. Just be prepared to do some work in order to make it work for you.

I love Maya! Maya LT is great for indie developers to create assets and the price tag is right on point. It's a small price to pay to use such high end modeling software. Blender users, software piraters, etc; convert now you won't be disappointed. The one thing I do hope they add in the near future is Python support, we desperately need to use the Unreal Engine 4 ART (Animation Rigging Tools) package, but can't currently. Hopefully it makes it into SP3 or a future update! I like the small extra features too that make exporting super easy, and exporting to Unity as well. Highly recommended

Under the circumstance that you're developing a game in the Unity game engine, this is effective and affordable software. The lack of import/export formats make is less usefull for other game engines.

Having used an earlier version of Maya, I found this quick and easy to update my knowledge to this version. LT is all the modelling and animation parts ( at least all the main ones I use, and some new ones ) without the rendering side, which I have never used due to making and exporting models. There are many tutorials online to assist with learning the UI and general tools. I have found Maya's system of modelling to 'click' with me, making more sense and being more easy to use than 3DSMax, and Blender, but those are not without their advantages also. If not for this product, I would be using Blender now.

I have used the product with the 15 day trial period from the Autodesk website, and have decided to purchase the monthly license, based on my experience. Thus far I have created a few static meshes for Unreal 4 Engine, and I expect the support between the two to increase as time goes by. I have reopened my meshes with the licensed version, and everything is as it should be. The 15 days and my schedule didn't allow any time for character creation, but I did peruse the tools available, and am looking forward to using such powerful tools.

This is an awesome product when used for its intended design. Content creation for games, indie or professional.

I am delighted to see that this software can open my maya files(*.mb) which I purchased before.

If you are using fbx as the exchange file format, it is the unique good choice. Though I have Blender in my OSX machine, it can not import and export fbx file correctly, I have to give up Blender for this reason.

The subscription can also urge me not to waste time:-)

Lightweight and powerful, I miss all the shader built in shader options you get with a standard maya liscense, but for the price this really can't be beat.

Keeps Crashing

Software crashes on me every 20 minutes on average. I keep loosing so much work. Not worth the money.

You should play this game because its an easy casual and very rewarding experience. Just click click and voile you done magic. Very simple yet addictive! You never regret and will want more and more. 11/10
