What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Centration is on Early Access for two main reasons - the first, is so that we can build the game with the players feedback every step of the way - the community is every part of the process of creating Centration and making it an enjoyable gameplay experience as we are. The second is so that you can help financially support the project. We're all working on this part time as we can't afford to work on it full time, so every purchase helps us work on the game a little more.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“As long as it takes to create our perfect experience. We're working as hard as we can to get the game finished as soon as possible, but we refuse to rush, and most of team are working part-time at the moment.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“As the game grows, so will the early access version of Centration. The full version, when finished, will feature all of the features we plan to include in the game and will be a polished product; and until then, all bets are off!

We're dedicated to providing regular updates, and growing the game as quickly and properly as possible.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At the moment, Centration is in its very early alpha stages, there's not much in way of gameplay and we're fleshing out the basics for every core feature before we move on. We don't want to haphazardly put gameplay into the game only to have it break and have to recreate it later on.

There's very little in terms of gameplay to do with Centration, and we would advise buyers who wish to purchase a game they can play and enjoy to move on and come back in a few months time.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will stay at its current pricing structure until release, at which point we will evaluate the worth of the final product and adjust accordingly.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have two public branches for players to use. The default branch is updated once every month or few months, depending on progress, where we can deliver more stable updates and larger milestones. The development branch however is updated very regularly with new tests and features we're working on as we work on them. We encourage everyone who buys into early access to switch to the Development Branch and help the game grow; by reporting bugs to https://bug.centrationgame.com”

Development Branch version F.0.1 r758

Development Branch version F.0.1 r758

Hey all. Today we’ve released the first update following our foundation phase of development; hence the new type of version number.

Here's the full changelog:

  • Chat now works!
  • Multiplayer now works again!
To host a server, go to \Steam\SteamApps\common\Centration\UCP\Binaries\Win64 and use UCPServer.exe. This app will open in the background by default. To change this, create a shortcut to it and add the -log command at the end.

Please make sure you open and forward port 7777 to your PC to enable hosting.
  • Server listings now list all servers of the current version online.
  • Refresh servers button now works.
  • Added new fonts for future use: CODE3X / UniSpace
  • Removed Airlock control UI (It was causing crashes on dedicated servers)
  • Removed background noise from main menu.
  • Purged many redundant blueprints and meshes & Moved files around for stability
  • Fixed Gamemode crashes
  • Added new log entries for future debugging.
  • Fixed a crash caused by the menu blueprint on changing levels
  • Disabled chat window from closing automatically when enter is pressed.
  • Airlock mechanics rewritten from scratch. There are some issues to be worked out but it works for now based on proximity.
  • Fixed username not being replicated properly.
  • Fixed a bug when disconnecting from servers that didn’t actually disconnect you from servers.
  • LobbyMenu Map added. Might cause crashes - use at own risk.
  • Error Handling added when connecting to servers.
  • ”Just Making things less crashy” - Whinis
  • Inventory is added pending UI. To see your current ‘inventory’ press I, and press C to clear it.
  • Added crosshair. Doesn’t work on dedicated servers for some reason.

Notes
This update is relatively small and a little later than usual because we’ve been focusing most of our efforts on Combat, Health and Inventory; which you should hopefully see in the next update.

Thanks!

About This Game

Crew a Space Station

Join your friends and dozens of other players from around the world to crew a space station in a far away solar system, working together to maintain, defend and manage everything from patrol schedules to the state of the fusion engines. Gain experience in your chosen field to earn more responsibility and command your own team or department. Reward good players with accolades to increase their reputation or give troublemakers a hard time with strictures that will keep them out of serious games. Teamwork is key to survival and doing your best and relying on your crewmates is the only way to succeed.

Survive in Deep Space

Work with your crewmates to keep your station operational and complete your shift objectives. Adapt to an ever-changing environment as equipment failures, meteor strikes and viral outbreaks make your time in deep space a struggle for survival. Practice your skills and earn perks to give you an edge, increasing your productivity and progress. Keep up-to-date through your uPal, a constant link to your team and the station. Train your body and mind to be ready for anything. Living and working on an interstellar space station is a dream job but never forget where you are. There is only a few feet of polycarbyne between you and in infinite vacuum - don't let your home become your tomb.

Simulated Environment

Play in a fully simulated environment with a dynamic airflow engine, gravity and power grid. Defend yourself in brutal combat, patch yourself up using a wide variety of medical treatments, engage in complex scientific procedures and experience fully script-driven machinery in a totally destructible environment. Vent your foes into the cold darkness of space or disable local gravity to render a dangerous fugitive incapable. The environment is your tool; how you use it is up to you.

I'm sorry, this game is not worth anything. They really don't joke around when they mention "Interactive Doors" as one of the main features.

I had high hopes for this being a big fan of Space Station 13.
Very little has been done in the past year towards development.
Will likely never be finished.

Would not buy again.

So far, not the best game in the world...

I bought the game from steam a while back and I still have not got it to work. If you buy it from steam you have to create a profile on their website and sync your steam account with your website profile, once you have done that you are meant to login on the game with your website account details but no. The website 9 times out of 10 will not know that your steam account owns Centration and therefore the game will not let you login because it thinks you do not have it. Even though you are on the game....

If you were thinking about getting this game I would wait a while until the Devs finally get the login system to work before they continue to add things to the game that 1 out of 10 people can access...

This game could be great and might work perfectly but it really shouldn't be on steam just yet because you pay £10 to see a main menu screen.

Hope this helped, Bammy :)

Steer clear of this game!

I have owned for many months and have seen very little in the way of development.
I definitely regret purchasing this!

If you say "buy it's still in early access", it has been in early access for way too long, and we should have seen considerable development going into this game, which we just haven't.

Save your money, and buy something that is actually worth it.

Almost a year I have had this sitting in my library, and many players can not even log in to their accounts yet. I understand it's early access. I understand the game is not finished. But the point of early access is to allow players to experience the game before it's released, and many people cannot even do that. Unless the game is designed to be a non-functioning log in screen and nothing else, in which case it's bang-on and the past year of development has really paid off.

I've never had the chance to play it since I bought it (pre-alpha), since the game servers are always down. I'm not sure if the development still continues.

Wait for further development before buying this game.

Centration is a game with a rather promising idea, however it seems to be nothing more than a placeholder as of right now that is not really worth the 15$. All you can do right now is interact with certain objects by pressing 'E', block with right clicking, and moving with the 'WASD' controls. It is in such early alpha that you can easily walk right out of the map as if you were playing in Garry's Mod.

While wandering the empty rooms and halls of the space station, I found a spot where there is no door and was simply a black space. I went through the entry way towards the black space, and as I suspected, I fell right through endlessly and only see the bottom half of the space station.

Now I still have hopes for this game once it reaches to beta. But as for now, I can't suggest this game in its current state to anyone with a clear conscious.

Right now i do not recommend this game, although I really like the idea of it.

I've purchased it looking forward to some sort of procedural space station simulation, team based thing. That's what the game promises. I even watched some videos of Space Station 13, the old game this one "depends" on, making me more interested, so I gave it a try and well, got disappointed.

First there was a typical alpha game. Not much you could do, just run around and look how the game looks like, but hey, at least there have been videos of the air simulation and stuff.
Then the entire game has been rewritten from scratch and what should I say:

Nothing much since then. It took weeks to get to a game that could open a door from one room to another. Nothing else. Just one door to open, mission acomplished.
Development is taking ages for something "new" to happen. The last time I saw something new was an empty hallway right behind the door. Yeah.

I really like the idea of a game like this, but right now I do not recommend to buy this game. There is nothing you could do and development is so slow you can come back in some month from now, hoping development accelerated a bit in the meantime.

This game is so early in development that it doesn't even belong on steam. I get that since the devs went through 2 failed crowd funding campaigns that they need the money, however the game is simply not in any presentable state. There's practically no gameplay and the only reason why someone would want to spend 15 dollars on this game, that may very well not get finished, would just be to fund development. If the idea of a 3D ss13 excites you that much, then by all means throw your money at it, otherwise, stay away until there's more content.

EDIT: My mistake, they went through 3 failed crowd funding campaigns.

They need to get their crap together. Once i actually play the freaking game that ive been waiting for oh lets say about 6 months to even try maybe ill write an actual review. As it stands all that this game has to offer is a lobby simmulator.

Bought it early to experience the developement and see what would be added over time but, it only allowed me to play it once. After an "update" - the "game" crashes to desktop everytime I click play. I've played other Early Access games and I never left a negative review but, I feel like I gave $15 for a game that won't even launch.

NOT YET!
At this time the game has no actual gameplay and is not functional as a "game" yet but more of an 'air particle simulator'. Buying it now is like paying for an idea that we hope will be good before ever seeing any actual progress. In several posts by the dev's they make it very clear that "there is not meant to be any gameplay. We would like to explicitly state that nowhere have we promised a fully functional, enjoyable game at this stage in development"

Don't get me wrong, I hope this game becomes the 3D Space Station 13 that we're all hoping for, but right now it's just a $15 library stuffer. If you still wish to buy it, just know what your buying. (this will change as more features are added)

(Just a side note: I believe in this game and the company behind it. When I first heard about the game a year ago I was onboard and purchased into the build knowing the state of the game just to help the devs out. If you want to see this game done right, go ahead and purchase, or donate on their website!)

The biggest buying regret I've ever had about crowd funding. Ever since it's first "stress test", where you could do nothing in silky smooth 15 FPS, barely anything changed after a year of development. There is still no gameplay, no content, no nothing. You might say "But they say it right on the store page!" well yes, but this doesn't change the fact that game hasn't improved a bit after a year of development. This leaves questions about developer competency and the fate of your hard earned 15$. I suggest you stay away from this game until it's final stages of development.

Clever metaphors and wordplay as well as really making the customer "Read the small font". It's not playable or even moddable as the Devs never respond, rarely release updates and rarely even say where they are in the production progress. Sure there is a roadmap, thats 2 months old....

Stay away from this until they learn to communicate with the community more.
