About This Game

In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland.

The townspeople of Banished are your primary resource. They are born, grow older, work, have children of their own, and eventually die. Keeping them healthy, happy, and well-fed are essential to making your town grow. Building new homes is not enough—there must be enough people to move in and have families of their own.

Banished has no skill trees. Any structure can be built at any time, provided that your people have collected the resources to do so. There is no money. Instead, your hard-earned resources can be bartered away with the arrival of trade vessels. These merchants are the key to adding livestock and annual crops to the townspeople’s diet; however, their lengthy trade route comes with the risk of bringing illnesses from abroad.

There are twenty different occupations that the people in the city can perform from farming, hunting, and blacksmithing, to mining, teaching, and healing. No single strategy will succeed for every town. Some resources may be more scarce from one map to the next. The player can choose to replant forests, mine for iron, and quarry for rock, but all these choices require setting aside space into which you cannot expand.

The success or failure of a town depends on the appropriate management of risks and resources.

This game challenges your ability to procure and make use of a variety of resources, as you upgrade and expand your colony. While you do this, you must take care of your colonists basic needs, and protect your colony from hostile animals, other humans, aliens creatures and robots. Then you do all this, and suddenly notice that your colonists are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ because of some other stuff and you sigh. It's a good game if you like managing and strategy. It maintains a steady rate of progress, while also increasing the challenge rating for you.

I've enjoyed it for many hours off-steam, and I'll likely enjoy it many hours in steam as well. It is worth the investment, if you haven't fallen in love with it after the first hour, you can return it. But I think you will, and I recommend you give it a try.

As far as the game goes, I can't recommend it highly enough. Very enjoyable; easy to learn and a LOT of fun to play. Sadly, I can't play Banished anymore due to crash-dump errors on my computer, but I would still recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good city-building-type game.

I love this game so much. The soundtrack is amazing and it's a lot of micromanagement. It takes quite a few tries before you get a stable economy going and the main downside is that once you get about 300 people, your computer starts to lag. Or at least mine does. It's a great game.

I personally love this game, it's the type of game that let's you have control, but without being a god in any type of way, since you can't directly control your people, you provide the ideas for construction and management, but it's up to them to make it work. Excellent game, good mods, to make things easier. Full approval and completely recommended

This is a game I could play for the rest of my life. I might go months or years without playing it but sometimes you get that itch and can come back to it and start yourself a little colony and before long you have a rich and prosperous city...until tornado wipes out the entire place.

or those damn plague bearing people from "camp refugee"

A fun game to play but the basic version gets boring after a few hours, a few new features would be nice however if you include some mods this game gives you fun for hours and hours

-Brought game
-Opened game
-Skipped tutorial because I'm ruthless and went straight in to a medium world
-It didn't take long to get use to everything, from getting slaves to build houses to 5 year old children cutting down trees
-Built a very nice village then everyone died of starvation

-Started another world made sure there was plenty of food and resources this time
-Made a even better village
-Everyone dies by a blizzard

Gg everything is op
10/10 will play again to have my dreams of a perfect village destroyed

Vote me to be hokage

This game is one of my favorite games of all time. The original version was cool but somewhat boring and it's only when I decided to start using mods that it went over the top for me.

There are so many mods that add extras that make this game incredible. Check out the Colonial Charter mods, they are a must!

If you're an expert in city builders and comparative games, to build the city just for the sake of building the city (e.g. Factorio) , this might be the perfect relaxation game for you. If you're more in need of a goal and a sense of a reason to why you're building this city, then maybe try something else. Because there is no campaign; no story, or otherwise tale for you to test your city building skills in. There is only the "New Game" where the game creates its own seed for you to try your skills at..

I started playing this game without this knowledge, and played it as I would any other game - but without any other purpose than to survive as long as I could, the game turned out to be a test to my knowledge within the game even though I had never played the game.. ..

It's a great game, as long as you're aware of what game you're pulling yourself into.

It's not my kind of game.

How do I feel about the game Banished? Well let me tell you, I purchased the game during the Steam Summer Sale because I was already curious about this game. Basically when I started the game I blinked and it was 9 hours later. No lie. I became addicted instantly. There are 3 different modes you can play on, easy, medium, hard. I started out on Easy just so I can get the grasp of the game. It's not as easy as you would think. It's a game of survival, in which you have to make sure your citizens are warm, fed, and happy. I love how buildings and other structures are not instantly built with a click of the button. You actually have to watch your citizens gather the materials, then start the construction. I highly recommend this game for the casual player. Also there are several mods that are available for this game, be sure to check them out.

PS. Pro-tip: I recommend getting your food sources down asap for you citizens, if not your people will go hungry and they will die sadly.

I was a little bit disappointed to find out that this game is already finished since I thought it was still in beta. The potential of this game is crazy but they abandoned it with a terrible AI and bugs all over the place.
Nonetheless I had a lot of fun with this little game. The ones that sometimes miss Anno or Rollercoaster can revive old feelings with this. Others should probably just buy a more complex RTS game.
Its fairly easy to build up an economy but there is literally no endgame content. I built the highest tier buildings in about 2 hours and then started to get bored... there are no opponents so all you have to do is watch the seasons go by and hope for a trader to offer you sheep ^^

Addictive, fun, yet boring.

This is a city building game which starts off as just pure survial and keeping your people alive, then slowly turns into a city management game. The first part being somewhat more engaging. Also a fire, followed by a tornano, followed by a fire followed by a shark attack (OK maybe I imagined the sharks eating my last 50 citizens) while at first seems ridiculus and game ending at first. It was actually quite a bit of fun to try and come back from. WHile the game does offer acheivements to earn it seems quite a bit open as to what the goals are, there's no progression per say since you can build any type of building from the start (other than aquiring all the crop types and livestock types). This actually i think is a good thing. Theres also tons of mods for this game which is cool too, in fact while in game you can look at mods to get.

I found this game fun to play as long as I was playing for fun, if you take my meaning.

Very good and difficult build-up game in a non-technolegy style, which felt/feels very fresh. I like this game, even though there are some moments, which are so frustrating, I am sure, because of me, 'cause I suck, but why do my farmers die, while they are harvesting? An unsolved mysterium to this day.

However, if you are a skilled player in this genre, you will have a lot of fun. I would not recommend this for beginner. Medicore players (like myself) still enjoy it's style and can have a nice session, which will last long enough, before it gets boring.

How to starve your people.
Step 1: Produce a lot of food.
Step 2: one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ decides to stockpile hundreds of pounds of food for himself when he lives alone.
Step 3: family of 6 cant find any food because of prementioned ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Step 4: watch your people slowly die despite all the food you produce.

Honestly though, this game is harsh and you will have to restart many times, it gets frustrating sometimes, but it is very fun!

Tried to claim the achievement for a 300 villager society without schools, using only hunting and gathering.

Now my townstead, built along a river bank and surrounded by small hunting/gathering campsites, has such an immense production of food that a lot of it goes straight to the trading post.

We just bought a massive supply of tools, clothes, and iron, with venison. Every trading post has at least 2000 pounds of venison in stock.

I've made a society where venison is the official currency.

10/10 would keep playing.
