About This Game

In this city-building strategy game, you control a group of exiled travelers who decide to restart their lives in a new land. They have only the clothes on their backs and a cart filled with supplies from their homeland.

The townspeople of Banished are your primary resource. They are born, grow older, work, have children of their own, and eventually die. Keeping them healthy, happy, and well-fed are essential to making your town grow. Building new homes is not enough—there must be enough people to move in and have families of their own.

Banished has no skill trees. Any structure can be built at any time, provided that your people have collected the resources to do so. There is no money. Instead, your hard-earned resources can be bartered away with the arrival of trade vessels. These merchants are the key to adding livestock and annual crops to the townspeople’s diet; however, their lengthy trade route comes with the risk of bringing illnesses from abroad.

There are twenty different occupations that the people in the city can perform from farming, hunting, and blacksmithing, to mining, teaching, and healing. No single strategy will succeed for every town. Some resources may be more scarce from one map to the next. The player can choose to replant forests, mine for iron, and quarry for rock, but all these choices require setting aside space into which you cannot expand.

The success or failure of a town depends on the appropriate management of risks and resources.

Ive had this game for a while, but just got it on steam soley so I can truly see how much time I waste on it.. Starting from scratch, within about 4 hours I have killed off 7 towns, majority of them within about 5-10 minutes... It blows my mind how a game so absolutely frustrating can be one of the best games I have ever played.

I would recommend this game to everyone, just have a couple spare monitors around, because chances are you will put your fist through a couple of them.

I simply love this game. I bought it yesterday and I have been playing almost constantly since then. It is by far the best simulation that I have seen that models a remote settlement and the challenges that people had to face not so long ago.

It could be improved further, but this game is very well made and fun to play. I have already spent almost 20 hours in two days time, which says a lot, I think.

I only hope/wish that it will be expanded and improved even more during the years to come, for it has such potential.

One of the BEST city builder game I've ever played, although I played a LOT of them. The game is amazing, it has relaxing music, medieval buildings, cool graphics...
WARNING: VERY ADDICTIVE GAME
Only bad things are: Firstly, the achivements are very hard and some are almost impossible to get, the devs (one guy making the game) don't relase updates, and the base game is quite empty (and hard) but you can use great mods, like Colonial Charter.

I rate the game 9.4/10 because I really like it, and I know you, who are reading this would like it too.

Agreat game, Very nice looking and easy to learn to play. Winters are hard and summers are spent working the fields. I'd reccomend this game to any eager building game lover. You fall in love with your little community and want to do whats best for them. It has work shop content so adding more building typres and tweeking the game to suit your needs or play style is ever more esyer. Well done guys, great game.

I've gotten slightly obsessed with this sandbox game. Once you've worked out how to defeat the risk of starvation and the fact that nomads coming to join you whilst increasing your population usually means a decrease in productivity and an inevitable "lol you're all sick" it's actually a good game to relax with.

I've played a few management games and this was one of the hardest for me. I have spent countless replays trying to work out where I went wrong previously. My goal is always to get further than I did the last time, and for me this is why I am hooked. Not a 'fun' game in any respect, as I am constantly stressing about how much food/firewood/etc my villagers have at any time, but an addictive one. I would definitely reccommend this game. It looks like I've only played a few hours, but I played many more on a friends account before I got my own.

Too all my citizens, I'm sorry.

If you would just stop being greedy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s and share food, this wouldn't have happened.

R.I.P.
Everyone

On the real though, I love this game. Simple, yet addicting.

One of the best games i played in a while. I have always been a management game fan, and this game is not only fun, its visually peaceful. Only gripe I have on the game, is the depth of technology. you are limited to just a few buildings, after which is resource management. Plan one thing wrong, and watch all your villagers die. Restart. Learn from your mistakes, repeat.

This is one of the most gorgeous RTS games I've played.
There is quite a bit of depth, and modding is natively supported so even more can be added.
It was a bit tricky for me in the beginning, but as I played more, it became very natural.
Unfortunately, the AI is a little dull, so you will find yourself having to use the priority increase tool often in order to get them to do what you want.

i don't write reviews, but i like this game. so i will definitely give it a thumbs up. but that's not why i'm here, i just want to make a comment that i've read 4 reviews in 2 minutes along the lines of the first 20 to 50 hours where fun.... blah blah blah. not worth 20 dollars. WTF, you enjoy a game for 50 hours, then ♥♥♥♥♥ that it's 20 dollars, what other form of entertainment has that kind of return, basically 2.5 hours a dollar.

I'm guessing none of you guys have ever frequented a movie theatre

-Brought game
-Opened game
-Skipped tutorial because I'm ruthless and went straight in to a medium world
-It didn't take long to get use to everything, from getting slaves to build houses to 5 year old children cutting down trees
-Built a very nice village then everyone died of starvation

-Started another world made sure there was plenty of food and resources this time
-Made a even better village
-Everyone dies by a blizzard

Gg everything is op
10/10 will play again to have my dreams of a perfect village destroyed

Vote me to be hokage

A nice city builder based in the medieval times. No wars to worry about, just natural disasters. Plays nicely and has good tutorials if you're new to the genre.

If you're an expert in city builders and comparative games, to build the city just for the sake of building the city (e.g. Factorio) , this might be the perfect relaxation game for you. If you're more in need of a goal and a sense of a reason to why you're building this city, then maybe try something else. Because there is no campaign; no story, or otherwise tale for you to test your city building skills in. There is only the "New Game" where the game creates its own seed for you to try your skills at..

I started playing this game without this knowledge, and played it as I would any other game - but without any other purpose than to survive as long as I could, the game turned out to be a test to my knowledge within the game even though I had never played the game.. ..

It's a great game, as long as you're aware of what game you're pulling yourself into.

It's not my kind of game.

How do I feel about the game Banished? Well let me tell you, I purchased the game during the Steam Summer Sale because I was already curious about this game. Basically when I started the game I blinked and it was 9 hours later. No lie. I became addicted instantly. There are 3 different modes you can play on, easy, medium, hard. I started out on Easy just so I can get the grasp of the game. It's not as easy as you would think. It's a game of survival, in which you have to make sure your citizens are warm, fed, and happy. I love how buildings and other structures are not instantly built with a click of the button. You actually have to watch your citizens gather the materials, then start the construction. I highly recommend this game for the casual player. Also there are several mods that are available for this game, be sure to check them out.

PS. Pro-tip: I recommend getting your food sources down asap for you citizens, if not your people will go hungry and they will die sadly.

Addictive, fun, yet boring.

This is a city building game which starts off as just pure survial and keeping your people alive, then slowly turns into a city management game. The first part being somewhat more engaging. Also a fire, followed by a tornano, followed by a fire followed by a shark attack (OK maybe I imagined the sharks eating my last 50 citizens) while at first seems ridiculus and game ending at first. It was actually quite a bit of fun to try and come back from. WHile the game does offer acheivements to earn it seems quite a bit open as to what the goals are, there's no progression per say since you can build any type of building from the start (other than aquiring all the crop types and livestock types). This actually i think is a good thing. Theres also tons of mods for this game which is cool too, in fact while in game you can look at mods to get.

I found this game fun to play as long as I was playing for fun, if you take my meaning.

I was a little bit disappointed to find out that this game is already finished since I thought it was still in beta. The potential of this game is crazy but they abandoned it with a terrible AI and bugs all over the place.
Nonetheless I had a lot of fun with this little game. The ones that sometimes miss Anno or Rollercoaster can revive old feelings with this. Others should probably just buy a more complex RTS game.
Its fairly easy to build up an economy but there is literally no endgame content. I built the highest tier buildings in about 2 hours and then started to get bored... there are no opponents so all you have to do is watch the seasons go by and hope for a trader to offer you sheep ^^

Very nice game! I bought it in a sale. Probably wouldnt spent almost 20 bucks on it.
It is a very nice and calm eco simulator. Basically you are trying to bring your people through the winter and
build your village/city.
In a sale I would buy it anytime again, but full price is a bit to high compared to the amount of game you get.

there are two main things I must say about this game that sway my decision of this review, but there is one bad thing that really must be addressed when it comes to the AI in this game. We will start with the good things. :)

1. Great Time Waster (In a good way) - I have spent a few good hours of my life playing this game and to be honest if someone asked me if they should buy it, I would grab them by the collar of their shirt and ask really loudly, "WHY THE HELL HAVEN'T YOU BOUGHT THIS YET?!?" before quickly dragging them to their computer to buy the game. Mainly I remember sitting at home waiting for my friends to show up which wasn't for another three hours, so I decided I would play Banished until they got there, not four hours later I finally noticed my friends had been sitting in my living room downstairs for an hour waiting for me. So yes if you need to pass time quickly get this game, just be sure to set and alarm if your like me and lose track of time.

2. A Glorious Challenge - I can't stress how much of a challenge this game can be even on easy if you have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ seed you will have your hands full trying to keep all your settlers from dying of starvation, hypothermia, or just plain sadness. But starvation leads me to the one issue I have with this game.

THE ONLY CON IN MY OPINION IS THAT THE AI ARE A BUNCH OF RESOURCE HOARDING ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥S!
I have had multiple games fail due to one family of settlers taking 75% of all the food I had for themselves leaving the other 85% of my population to fight over the reamaining 25%. Frankly this has stopped me from playing this great game and it really peeves me that this one thing with the AI is what kills the game for me. If I had the time or capacity to mod this game, it would be a rationing mod so I can set up what people take from the barns I would honestly have no bad things to say about this game.

I hope this helps those of you looking to get this game and if you do get it, holy hell best of luck.
