Verdun Frontline News - Autumn Sale

The Steam Autumn sale is here, and Verdun is 50% off until November 28! Don’t forget that anyone who owns Verdun can also get 20% off Tannenberg until December 1.

OpNoobs Tournament - Signup for Third Qualifiers
The second round of qualifiers in the OpNoobs Verdun World Championship have been played and the results are in. Read about the outcome of each match, or you can watch the games with commentary on the OpNoobs YouTube channel:

And even if you didn’t take part in the first two qualifying rounds, there’s still time to make it into the tournament! You can already sign up for the next qualifiers which start on January 6 2018.

Improvements to Verdun
The launch of Tannenberg has gone very well and we’re pleased to see a lot of people enjoying the game. So which of the improvements from Tannenberg will we also see coming to Verdun? As we’re working with the same engine, performance upgrades are on the way as well as new weapon and ambient sounds, an improved user interface and an in-game switch between the Western and Eastern Fronts for those playing both games. Not all of these features have seen the light of day in Tannenberg yet, so don’t expect them in Verdun right away. First we want to make sure it’s all running smoothly before integrating it into Verdun. We’ll keep you posted!

Tannenberg open beta out now - join the Winter Offensive!

We did it, and not without your support! Thanks to all of you we have been given the opportunity to work on the standalone expansion Tannenberg! The game just released into open beta on Steam Early Access – which has been great for Verdun in the past.

https://youtu.be/IR6k2MagQbs

You can get Tannenberg for $17.99, with a 20% loyalty discount for those owning Verdun until December 1 2017. It's content complete, and we're going to use the open beta period for improving the balance, sounds and performance, plus implementing a new user interface.

Verdun will not be left behind, and the game will benefit from the visual and performance improvements in Tannenberg. Updates are planned for the game in these upcoming months including an easy in-game way to switch between the two fronts.

Sneak peak of the new UI

There's a special in-game medal for everyone who joins the Tannenberg open beta, and if you keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter, and Steam Hub, you can join in some launch celebration events where a lucky few will be able to win Tannenberg keys!

If you have comments or feedback (and we hope you will!) you can post them in the Tannenberg Steam hub, or on our Discord channel. A huge thank you to all our Tannenberg alpha and closed beta testers, as well as the Verdun players who have already been submitting issues there!

Wrap up warm and keep your sabre sharp ;)

Cheers, M2H & Blackmill Games

Reviews

“Generously stuffed with player-made emergent moments on the battlefield and an incredible sense of place, Verdun is not just a great take on one of history’s more marginalised wars, it also happens to be a resoundingly solid shooter in its own right too.”
9.0 – Gamewatchers - John-Paul Jones

“I became immersed in its careful pacing and focus on squad movement.”
Gamespot - Cameron Woolsey

“Verdun's given me an excellent understanding of what a mess World War I was. Verdun's Frontlines mode really is sort of ingenious—and I think this is definitely one worth checking out, especially if you're already interested in the subject matter.”
8.0 – PCWorld - Hayden Dingman

About This Game

Verdun is the first multiplayer FPS set in a realistic World War One setting. Merciless trench warfare offers a unique battlefield experience, immersing you and your squad into intense battles of attack and defense. Verdun is part of in the 1914-1918 WW1 Game Series, with the second entry Tannenberg taking players to the Eastern Front.

The game takes place on the Western Front between 1914 and 1918, in one of the bloodiest conflicts in world history. The developers were inspired by the infamous Battle of Verdun in 1916. The game offers 4 distinct game-modes with many historically accurate features such as realistic WW1 weaponry, authentic uniforms, horrendous gore, and maps based on the real battlefields of France and Belgium.

Verdun key features include:
  • Experience World War 1 gameplay: Accurate weaponry with realistic bullet physics, skill based weapon handling, poisonous gas with a claustrophobic gas mask experience, horrendous gore effects, and ferocious artillery barrages
  • Tactical squad-based FPS: Unique squad leveling system with distinct squad types and roles
  • True trench warfare: Real-time dynamic frontline with momentum based attack and counter-attack gameplay
  • Authentic World War 1 setting: Typical WW1 music and style, historical battlefields representing the key theaters on the Western Front
  • Challenging game modes: Team-based Frontlines, tactical Attrition, and skill-based Rifle Deathmatch and desperate survival in Squad Defense

    WW1 on the Western Front

The gameplay in this true WW1 battlefield experience is as immersive and gritty as it can get, with features such as optional realistic gore which portrays the true horror of the First World War and authentic weaponry including artillery and gas. Verdun's weapons need to be handled with skill - each gun handles differently and there are no floating crosshairs to aid your aim, along with realistic bullet physics to contend with.

Battle your way across No-Man’s-Land to capture the next enemy trench line, before switching to defense to protect your gains in the Frontlines game mode. Keep your head down or quickly don your mask in the event of artillery strikes or gas attacks. This unforgiving war isn’t for the faint hearted!

    Authentic World War 1 Setting

The 1914-1918 WW1 Game Series currently includes Verdun and Tannenberg (set on the Eastern Front). These authentic WW1 shooters let players choose from a range of squads from across the war, as they fight for control of the ever-changing frontlines.

For Verdun, the development teams carried out extensive field research at the battlefield itself and were advised by knowledgeable historians to make sure the individual elements in Verdun are as historically accurate as it can get. Uniforms have been recreated to the tiniest detail, the weapons are modeled to exact references and the maps use realistic props and terrain layouts. Everything in the game has been tailored to recreate the grim atmosphere so typical of WW1, from the immersive interface and war torn maps to realistic sounds and voices that evoke the feeling of actually being there in the mud covered trenches, peering out over no man's land in search of the enemy.
