Id rather the original game... this one isn't terrible, but is in no what way comparison to the gameplay to be expected from the community. Steam should pick up the Gunz The Duel. (first one) and carry it run some servers...bet it does better than this game.

This game will be a disapointment to GunZ 1 players who are expecting it to be like the original. Maiet should have put GunZ 1 on Steam, instead of this game, or just upgraded the graphics on GunZ 1. The game currently suffers from low player participation with less than 400 players online at any time. The game lacks a deathmatch mode, though it does have a team deathmatch mode.

I first tried GunZ The Duel September 28th 2005, it was a game the redefined online gaming for me as a competitive fast paced shooter that I absolutely fell in love with, I would stay up for days and literally binge on this game there were days when I would press close to a million keys playing it for 12 hours in a single day.

Almost a decade later and MAIET has shoveled this garbage at our feet, I was truly hoping for GunZ The Duel remastered, Steam was their chance to take their original game make it look fancier and release a more polished version of what they already had. MAIET let me down with this game, playing a few rounds I could tell that this was awful. They already had a game that people loved, and it was their chance to show it to mainstream gamers, well you ♥♥♥♥ing failed MAIET.

Takes forever to queue. And the public matches are horribly imbalanced. There are 2 hour newbies on teams against lvl 20 pro players. Not only are you waiting a long time to get a match, but when you are put in a game, it's a 5 minute waste of your time since the match is so obviously stacked most times. Rarely are there any good fights.

Pre-Release Review
By playing the first GunZ: The Duel some years ago for many hours, this looks like a seatback from the previous game and it's horrible for a modern game.
The interface is ugly, VERY ugly and not intuitive. Characters are very strange and with absurdly poor modeling.
Then I tried to ignore those facts and ended up very frustrated with the combat. The game does not run smoothly, camera is weird and seems like they made it harder to control.
Does not seem like a modern action game, does not feel like one. Don't know if my judgement grew better or they really messed this up. I think even the characters classes are worse now.

At least it's free to play, but you may waste your time or get frustrated with your own nostalgia.

I don't understand how they messed up this game so badly.... why add campaign? why add classes? if it aint broke don't kill it.

If there are no players near your area you are screwed and can't play online matches, how hard was it to just divide by zones? East-west coast, and europe.... blah

They killed one of my favorite games.

Classes feel gimmicky.

well, I don't think I've ever given this game a review.
I do not recommend it. Not because I think it's a bad game, but because the way it's handled.

lotta prollems.

Hacking
Hacking's an issue, I don't remember one hack free week of gameplay when I was into it. I'm sure with all these hack threads in my absence, it's only gotten worse.

Updates/support
This game hardly updates, when it does it's mostly a balance patch, and personally I don't mind, balance patches I think, are a good thing, the prollem is they do it wrong.

Also, the focus of this game has changed region several times, first in closed beta for korea(totally different game then), then kill it off and bring a new beta to EU(resembling what we have today), then bring the Open beta to the US on Steam, then pull it off steam in EU and sell it to Aeria games which doesn't seem to care about the game in the end as it somehow died there and is now back up in steam in EU I think? I don't even know, AND NOW IT'S IN MALAYSIA!

Cash Items
While I would prefer cash items to not exist, and I personally don't think the Tesla system is bad in the sense of earning a weapon, it makes it a real hard sell for people wiling to put money in the game, you're paying, to get a chance at getting a weapon. You can find yourself spending hundreds to get everything you want.

Netcode
So we're still using the Host system. I got to play on the dedicated server in US-West for a while, but not every game that night was on the dedicated server and afterwards I think they just droped it.

What's good? Gameplay.
It's fast paced, it's intuitive, honestly gameplay alone, it's not that bad, just a few tweaks with the games hit and block stun and melee combat in this game would be great imo, The melee combat is fun, it's just not good. This game does incorporate strategy in Team Elimination mode and it's always great to have a team that works together just right, Ivans can snipe opponents just out of the hallways in Mansion, Elena's can locate any hiding opponents with her E-skill, Renas and Waynes can provide a distraction to assist in kills for their team, very effectively. Yeah, the game really isn't that bad for competitive play, but unfortunately, there isn't much competition and the Host system in this game basically makes one member on either team really hard to kill, and it makes it too easy for them to kill you, so you will have to precede with caution when you fight against the host.

Btw, anyone expecting this game to play like Gunz1 will be disappointed, they're totally different games.

Conclusion
I will close my review saying what I said before, I cannot recommend this game, I like it, I've had a lot of fun playing it, but it just doesn't deserve the love that neither I nor the many veteran players that have stuck with it give it today, because maiet just doesn't know what to do, it's like they're throwing the game everywhere just to see who likes their product the most instead of actually working towards making it a truly good product.

Nothing like the first gunz game. Not a lot of customisation with appearance and equipment plus the equipment are class locked. Small maps, overall not the same gameplay as the first one. You might enjoy it if you've never played the original but only to a certain degree, then it does eventually get boring.

Oh, immortal GunZ, how we missed you! Wait, you changed... WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?

After long years waiting, we finally have the second iteration of "GunZ: The Duel" on our hands, and it's bitter sweet. On one hand, it bring us that K-Style, fast-paced pump action that we all knew and loved and the ever so memorable maps! But there are too many "deviations" from the original that keep this game on its predecessor's shadow: gone is the free-reign customization you had with your character, opting now to offer you only classes with very limited customizable options.

The addition of special moves, like a Hurricane Kick and a Deathslash are cool concepts on paper, but take A LOT out of the skill based game that was GunZ. Who likes to be one-shot with an uninterruptible special move from behind? Only with Headshots, the most sublime art in GunZ, do I condone one-hit deaths.

AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON MATCHMAKING! WHAT MATCHMAKING?
"Are you new to the game? Are you an old veteran of the original game, but have already forgot how to play the game? Here, go play with level 20 characters that kill you with three hits from a sword-cancel Butterfly and reload shot."

All in all, it's a great game. If it was a totally new experience, or If you never had the luck to touch the original GunZ, I would recommend this game. But with the memory of the original still imprinted in my mind, I find it lackluster, and do not recommend it for the OG GunZ player.

Im Sorry I thought only Movies got bad if made into sequals . Gunz2 is less than half the game the original was.
I stopped playing Xteel to play the Original Gunz one of the first shooters to actually include wallrunning and dashing all over.(without it being in robots mind you) I spent money on it even tho it was free to play it was great... it had bin a while since i played when i saw the adds for gunz2 my heart beat in anticipation and the download could take any longer. when it finally started iwas astonished what fresh piece of Explitive Deleted was this its bin fed to much crayon and rainbows or a complete lack of soul a badly colored cartoon no its watching the guy cook your food and call 5 second rule with your steak after he drops it on the floor

The net code is terrible, hit contacts are poorly registered, fighting styles are bland, it has none of the appeal of original Gun Z. The PVE is boring and 1 dimensional. Peer to Peer is terrible with a community of mostly Brazilians.

-----------DON'T F***ING MAKE PEER TO PEER ACTION GAMES-----------------
=thank you=

So, my story with gunz goes waaaaay back when i was 7 years old or so playing in a low end computer and cheap internet, even with all that i was still able to hit some good combos and playing with friends was so fun, the game was balanced enough (even some premium weapons being kinda stupid) there were lots of guns to choose and equip a single character (breaker ftw) the coop mode was pretty good and the pvp was awesome

The only problems i saw with gunz was the female defense that was slightly better..and that made no sense at all..and the graphics that even in the release were bad, but WHATEVER, it was fun, addicting, playing with friends was a blast, combos were really hard to master but so rewarding when you finally manage to slash your sword, switch to a shotgun quick, shoot and get the kill (it sounds easy but good luck actually doing that lol)
Even with a low end pc and cheap connection i could still have loads of fun through YEARS (400$ notebook and 1MB connection for 10 bucks per month to be exact) my latency stood around 50-100, it's not good

Well, fast forward, new high end pc, great new broadband high speed connection and BOOM Gunz2 OH MY GOOOOOD, THAT AWESOME GAME I PLAYED WHEN YOUNGER IS HAVING A SEQUEL...well...it is having a bad, unbalanced, poorly developed, badly designed, broken and boring sequel..

-----------------------GUNZ2 IN A NUTSHELL---------------------------

Login, feel nostalgic, get confused from the characters, what does he do, who is she ? why a shield ? wich one is better ? jump in the tutorial..waste your time..play coop, amaze yourself with the mind blowingly stupid AI, go to a deathmatch, hear how dozens of players had intercourse with your mother, get angry at that host that never changes because he has 0 lagg but the others are suffering from 500+ latency, see that happening again..and again..and again..and again..then after some time start seeing cowboys that press Q and kill you (it should be called aimbot instead of one shot one kill..it's really the same), g3t stunl0ck3d m8, 1t's d MLG cowboy 420 bl4z3 1t

Okay, let's talk about what's wrong in this game
-Bad character modeling
-PEER TO PEER ? SRSLY ?
-Poorly designed maps
-WORST COMMUNITY EVER, LOOKS LIKE THE AVERAGE PLAYER IS 5 YEARS OLD (AND I THOUGHT COD WAS BAD)
-One-button-instant-kill stunlock sniping cowboy
-Meh gunfights
-TERRIBLE melee combat
-Peer to peer doesn't work for ANY GAME, AT ALL
-Horrible ambience
-UI is one of the worst i ever saw
-Weird button mashing mobility
-Pretty much useless tutorial wich doesn't explain not even a quarter of the game
-Matchmaking is really annoying
-God mode bug that happens pretty often
-It locks your region so if you want to try playing maybe EU to see if there is a good host or better community there or your region lacks good hosts..maiet doesn't care
-Did i mention peer to peer shouldn't be used ?
-Oh, i did mention
-Good, i need to make this clear

What i actually found good
-Soundtrack..it's pretty good..we have to admit..
-Effects, the fire, gunshots and slashes effects are somewhat cool
-If you're lucky enough to get good hosts or you have a stupid fast internet connection, if you don't get MLG cowboys stunlocking you 24/7 and play with a full party..it can be kinda fun
-The game really can improve..this can just be a shaky start but one thing is pretty clear, it will NEVER become what gunz used to be

Note to Maiet: Nerf Max to make the game more balanced..then release the strider class ? really..? is this some kind of prank ? some bad joke ?

I played the original gunz and enjoyed it greatly. I downloaded this game with high expectations and had it thrown into a grave. Worst sequel to a game ever 8/10 IGN.

If they just stuck to what they did in the original Gunz: The Duel game, then it would be a great game. But no. They limit everything, they don't explain the advanced maneuvers in the tutorial, it have clunky movement mechanics and it's just generally bad.

Well I gave it a good gap of time for review. Once eleven months ago (March 2014) , and once today (February 2015).

The game is not good. I wouldn't recomend it.

First Look - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9uVKpdXLLk

Final Review - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkxqFiAUdD0

Graphics/Visuals
- Perfunctory

The game looks as well constructed as many other third person shooters games, the character models (for the players) are where the greatest focus is in this game. The PvE enemies, terrain and levels have a very ps2-xbox era look to them and while looking very lack luster, the performance takes a surpisingly big hit when played on anything older than a 2012 computer. This shouldn't be the case, especially since the game was created in 2011, then ported to western audiences with localization.

Overall I would say the graphics are Perfunctory - The high quality of the characters are completely out of balance with the low quality of the rest of the game. The game is characterized by its indifference to uniformity.

Audio
- Appropriate

The audio SFX and the Music in the game are actually not all that bad. There is an unreal tournament style announcer that calls out when you do well or get headshots, even in the PvE mode. The Music has a very modern style to is, a mix of club and hard rock music, depending on the level. One thing that does strike me as odd is that while everything in the game is english, the characters them selves still speak korean.

Overall I would say the Audio is Appropriate - The audio fits the action, none of the sound effects are too jarring or badly sampled, the announcer is fun, and the music is pretty good.

Gameplay
- Why

While the game comes off as being a sort of PVP and PVE experience, it is all weighted towards PVP. The damage values for weapons and the characters skills are all designed with PvP in mind and little thought given to how they function in the PvE mode. For starters you cannot play the PvE mode alone and expect to make it past the first two levels, so cooperation is a given at this point. Then the game limits you by giving you a set amount of coins which are used for revives. Since you can easily be killed in two to three hits by many of the PvE enemies in this game it becomes a terrible experience very quickly. You are going to die at least once per mission, and once you are out of coins, you have to get more with currency or outside of PvE.

The PvP is very unbalanced despite it being the entire focus of the game. Since every character has skills and melee weapons that cause you to be stunned, the enitre focus of the PvP combat becomes to get close to your enemy, stunlock the ♥♥♥♥ out of them and shoot them while they are down. This is in a game literally called Gunz.

This game has somewhat died even before the loli came out. It was an okay time killer and fun if you played with friends but thats most games. I've stopped playing this game maybe a month or so ago due to the whole p2w aspect although i did have some of that gear myself it just made this game ever more ♥♥♥♥♥♥. The fact that 2yr olds drooling at their keyboards could kill you due to their weapon and not their skill is kinda frustrating. Gunz was 10x better than this in every aspect. In my honest opinion this game isnt worth downloading.

The reviews are a little rough. This game is by no means worth a 10/10 rating, but it's definitely underrated. It's fast paced and it's got a fair amount of very different characters to choose from. I just wish I got more of a tutorial. It's like CoD in that they teach you to shoot a certain way and then you never do that again. It's more of a cluster♥♥♥♥ than they let on. I personally like this game and would recommend it to friends, I'm just hoping the few bugs here and there get resolved.
