GunZ 2 is open in Europe now!

Greetings all,

After the long downtime, we're opening GunZ 2 in Europe again.
We apologize to all EU fans for such a long downtime. The licensing agreement with Prosieben had come to an end, and we opened Steam server for EU fans as of this week. We still need to finish up optimizing game servers to host players from EU regions, but we believe that the game service will be stabilized and improved with the new EU players soon.

As a person who never got to play the Original GunZ, I was fortunate enough to enter this game with a sort of "free-slate" so to speak towards the massive dissapointment that most of the GunZ: The Duel players had.

However, because of this unbiased-ness I'm also able to clearly evaluate what's lacking, and in what areas. So here it goes:

I find that the tutorial to this game is clunky, for starters. They teach you basic manuevers (sure) and then don't bother to explain some of the more finer aspects of the game (like juggling, guard-breaks, parry's) and overall "Mobility" lessons that are quintessential to gameplay.

Right from the get-go you're confused though, as you're presented with three characters, with all their own different types of play styles.

A Sniper (Who most people go for stupidly, and I myself fell for this trap)
A Gunslinger (Balance between Offensive and Mobility)
A Shield-Trooper (Heavy-Offense, Super-Defense)

However, what it doesn't tell you is which one is geared towards beginners, and which one is geared towards advanced players. Take if from me when I say the Shield-Trooper is the best first choice, for both campaign and beginner's in general.

So now you're in the game, and you're excited. You load up a Co-Op game and figure: "Awesome! This is going to be so much fun."

Three minutes passes, and when you decided to stupidly try to go in for meelee kills, you were facerolled by enemies whose AI are set to "Easy Mode" And you're left scratching your head in mystery. "Whatever" you say, and use one of your tokens.

What you fail to realize is that your tokens are impermanent, and suddenly you find yourself penny pinching them for those last-minute saves. Meanwhile, your teamates (who are either higher skill cap and alive, or dead and furious at you, screaming for a "revive pls" every two seconds) are equally getting frustrated by the game, and with you and eventually quit.

Okay, so you figure that the campaign mode is merely bugged, and will get better with time, right?
No.

So you give up on Campaign and go to versus mode, where you're excited to play against other players. You begin searching for a match...and then you search some more....and then you search some more.....and then you search some more.... and then you search some more.... until -finally- you get into a match.

Oh how wondrous! You finally made it into a match, and you're fairly certain that you'll be ju~
-BOOM-

You. are. dead.

"WTF!?" you yell in annoyance, as you check what killed you. Turns out a guy whose ping is skyrocket, and is also the host, happens to be pretty much lag-owning everybody in the room. You suddenly find yourself unable to land clean hits, and you begin doing "Lag Compensation" shots.

You make last place, and throw your hands up in defeat.

Needless to say: I'm coming to this game as an old fan of S4 League, where I was God-Like in terms of skill. Coming here? Doesn't matter. I can't hit a target that literally phases through my bullets, or doesn't feel the effects until seconds later. Melee combat is a joke as well, and overall this game feels horribly clunky and bad.

There's a reason I uninstalled it.

Id rather the original game... this one isn't terrible, but is in no what way comparison to the gameplay to be expected from the community. Steam should pick up the Gunz The Duel. (first one) and carry it run some servers...bet it does better than this game.

By playing the first GunZ: The Duel some years ago for many hours, this looks like a seatback from the previous game and it's horrible for a modern game.
The interface is ugly, VERY ugly and not intuitive. Characters are very strange and with absurdly poor modeling.
Then I tried to ignore those facts and ended up very frustrated with the combat. The game does not run smoothly, camera is weird and seems like they made it harder to control.
Does not seem like a modern action game, does not feel like one. Don't know if my judgement grew better or they really messed this up. I think even the characters classes are worse now.

At least it's free to play, but you may waste your time or get frustrated with your own nostalgia.

This game is really fun. I recently got back into it, but I spent a lot of time on it when it was in beta and honestly it was a pretty crappy experience.

I won a few of those weekend events and got the special badges by no lifing but the amount of hackers and laggy hosts was awful. However, now that the game is live and out of beta I decided to try it out again and I spent a good 4-5 hours playtime without noticing a single hacker and there are not nearly as many lag problems as there used to be.

They also did really well with balance. It feels a lot more like I ♥♥♥♥ed up when I die rather than Max being OP or Rena having infinite dashes.

I definitely recommend this game. It's not nearly as brutal on your hands as the first Gunz but it's definitely still just as fun.

It also has a very high skillcap to it, and I would say the entry barrier is pretty high too if you're not much of an FPS/TPS player. It's a very fast paced game. Definitely worth trying out though!

GunZ 2 is a fast paced third person arena shooter. It has a very good movement system that you need to get used to. After playing a while the game feels very fluid. The balancing is quite good, all classes can be played at the highest level.

The p2w comments here are grossly exaggerated. All weapons and cosmetics are obtainable through playing.

Mechanics: Outstanding.
Maintenance: Fair at best.

This is, without a doubt, one of the best PvP games I've played in a while. That being said, updates have been sparse thus far and bugs are being fixed at an exceedingly slow rate; it's my opinion that the dwindling community is merely a symptom of these factors rather than an indicator of the game's quality. I believe this game has enormous potential should MAIET choose to give it the attention it deserves but the lack of communication on their part doesn't make me very optimistic. Regardless, I'll hold out hope until it either dies or turns into a money-grabber.

Gunz 2: The Second Duel is a sequel to the original Gunz which was released in 2003. This is a fast paced 3rd person shooter multiplayer game that allows you to execute gravity defying moves. Unlike the first Gunz many advanced techniques were removed and the game is now fit for casual and the more hardcore gamers on this franchise. Though free to play you can buy items from the microtransaction shop. There is a gambling system called the Tesla Shop, which uses purified ores and purified crystals, which are a type of currency in Gunz 2. This game has a player hosting system which allows players with the best suitable network to host the server, which may cause lag and is still a work in progress. There are so far 6 classes with different unique playstiles and different set of achievements, Gold and Ores are easy to get without using the microtransaction shop. Overall this game is fun to play with friends, and is suitable for both casual and hardcore gamers

Still a great game for what it is but really lacking new content. The last major update was prob the rocket girl and the dedicated server testing.. Cmon Maiet the current community is small enough already, at this rate even the people who love the game will get bored of it too!

Gunz 2 (Sequel to Gunz: The Duel) is a fantastic high speed third-person shooter. The game offers several different characters which each represent a different class. The gameplay itself centers around two main modes, a competitive team deatchmatch style mode, and a cooperative vs ai mode. The gameplay itself is easy to learn but hard to master and just when you think you've figured it out, someone comes along to school you (like me :P) The game offers an old-school shooter feel with powerups and health pickups scattered around the maps. The game features a different mix of gunplay and swordplay for each character. You can purchase much of the costumes and weapons with in-game currency and if you're a very skilled player, wont need to upgrade very much at all. It offers a challenging third person shooter experience thats free, so its worth a shot. But if you arent very good at shooters to begin with, you might have a hard time getting any fun out of it. (Since you'll be dead)

THE GOOD
+ Good graphics for an F2P
+ Fast Paced Third Person Action
+ Melee is a blast when you master it
+ Oldschool shooter feel (not another COD)

THE BAD
- Not recommended for beginners
- Community leaves much to be desired
- High Learning Curve
- Matchmaking sometimes screws up pretty bad

THE UGLY
"Diehard" fans of the original complaining about everything

BOTTOM LINE
If you like fast paced shooters or games like devil may cry, this is a fantastic game. Plus its free, so give it a shot! It cant hurt too much. Keep in mind this is coming from a big fan of the original, I love this one too, its plenty of fun if you know how to play.

Recommended 7/10
