Reviews

“Strip away all the punkish ingenuity piled on Nuclear Throne and you're left with this: a skin-fidgeting, hair-tingling battle of textures. Hard meets sticky. Bang meets squelch.”
Eurogamer

“It’s an anarchic thrash of a roguelike where everything goes boom or splat—or, more frequently, boom and splat.”
PC Gamer

“It’s a rapid-fire, deliciously crunchy randomized romp starring a cavalcade of characters from Vlambeer’s past.”

Nuclear Throne is a very unique game.
It's one of those games that frustrates the heck outta ya but it keeps calling you back for more.
In my experience it's a VERY well balanced game.

I first saw this game when it was being developed as "Wasteland Kings" I think it was a livestream feed of 2 or 3 game developer groups making prototype games for a "Humble Mojang Bundle".

With the randomly generated maps each time it creates new chances each go around.

This is actually my favorite game to play at work.......... then again I work at a coffee shop, and it's pretty slow around this time of year so I have a lot of free time. But the downside is that I can't use the internet at work.

I've put in probably 60+ offline hours into this game... and I keep dying.
This isn't a game you'll master overnight, or even after a couple of weeks.

Pros--
> Randomly Generated Maps
> Rarely Gets Old
> Multiple characters to unlock
> Awesome abilities
> Cool weapons
> Spectacular Boss'
> Even Better Graphics

Cons--
> You'll keep dying
> ... ...

Bottom Line, buy it. You won't regret it.

Product received for free
Even though I got this game for free, this review is completely unbiased.
The game is actually fun to play as it's sort of a top-down shooter where you can pick up random guns and it has rogue-like features where as you die you will restart the game pretty much completely.
If you're into that kind of stuff like what you see in the screenshots and the preview videos above, then this game is probably fee. The pictures and videos above do actually represent the game pretty much.

Randomly generated, skill driven, and one of the few frustrating games that you keep on coming back to as you die.

Requires much faster reflexes than a game like Binding of Isaac (Way more bullet hell), but feels so much more satisfying when you clear a hoard of a level.

I find myself just coming back to it over and over again.

Before you get this game, imagine you're sitting on the toilet, with incredibly painful cramps. As you wait there for the bricks to come exploding out of your ♥♥♥, you suddenly realize that nothing I've said in the review so far has anything to do with the game.

But in all seriousness, picture this; you're lying on your deathbed, staring into the eyes of your beloved as the arms of death welcome you into the loving imbrace of the darkness. You see the tears forming in their eyes, you give them comforting words, but they know that the disease had no cure. These, you knew, were the last moments you would spend here on this planet, but you were at proud. You knew in your heart that you owed nothing, you had made friends of your enemies and family of your friends. But there was nothing you could do. This death was impossible to forsee, and impossible to stop. As you breath your dying death, you are at peace, and as much as you wish you could stay, you know; your death was because of anything you did...

Nuclear Throne is nothing like that.
Every death is your fault.

Nuclear Throne is a post-apocalyptic rogue-like shooter with cool story and nice music

Singleplayer & Multiplayer Singleplayer is very hard and request 100% from you, every mistake you make can be your the last one. NT don't know what is mercy when you first time start your run you need to learn good tactics, how work every weapon, how enemies attack you and also is randomly generated so every run is diffirent. There is no Multiplayer only local CO-OP but there is a amazing mod created by YellowAfterlife called "Nuclear Throne Together" which adds Online CO-OP for community

PROS

+ Soundtrack
Soundtrack is fantastic and full with emotions, seriously when i hear it i feel like i could kill everybody in the game

+ Achievements & Trading Cards
Hard and rewarding achievements are also cool addition, there is also something for people looking for nice backgrounds and emoticons

+ Randomly Generated Runs
Right now is something normal but very rare you can see really nice generated maps in the games, nuclear throne actually generate so good maps everytime i feel like they were designed by developers

+ Daily & Weekly
When you feel strong/bored enough you can try competition with players

+ Over 100 weapons....
14 characters....lots of enemies, bosses...

CONS

- Locked to 30 fps
You can't have 60 fps in the game if you would the game would be x2 faster than normal

- Bugs
Is a final product but still there are some unfixed bugs

I played 43 hours of this, counting upwards day by day, and I am regretting every single second, I am playing this piece of garbage. But now to explain this, rather bad sounding beginning.

This game, is great. Great at the gameplay, the roguelike, the weapons, not so much the enemies but still good enough. Another thing its good at is making me frustrated like hell. I have played so many times, so many hours AND I AM STILL NOT PAST THE SEVENTH GOD DAMN AREA! This game is good, its amazing! COULDNT LOVE OR HATE IT MORE!

Seriously if you are a masochist, buy it. You are going to love it. You played Dark Souls and love it? Play this! You get about the same "GIT GUD" garbage.

But now to the real thoughts:

This game is good. It actually is amazing. I love it dearly and I couldnt hate it more either. It is like Binding of Isaac if you take all the fun parts out and replace it with a literal bullethell from Touhou. Remember the Mom fight or Hush? And how hard they were? Now think of that in every single level past the first 4. Actually even the first 3 level can contain that. And I am not talking about a tiny room with one boss doing this. No, the level is big and filled with enemies that shoot at you and attack you if you are too close to them as well. And if you manage not to get hit, you will be happy. This however will most likely not be the case with all types of enemies running around, hitting you as you touch them.

All in all, I give this game a "good" on my scale. It only reaches good because its frustrating as hell. Even more than "Binding of Isaac". Like, I didnt think there would be a game out there like that...

Now back into the hell of this game...
Urgh...

-HPV from the FAV

This game has changed how I view video games.
Just like Luftrausers, it rewards you every time you start a new run.
Vlambeer feeds you on a metaphysical level.
One of the best soundtracks in all media.

Must own.
Triple dip.
Get you some.

Vlambeer makes yet another game about aiming weapons with a variety of patterns to kill fast-moving enemies that can slay you in a heartbeat, dying to something unexpected, and starting over.

This one has roguelike trappings with procedural generation and such: making do with the weapons you find is fun; choosing from the random perk sets is okay, but the choice is seldom as difficult as I'd like; and the level generation is actually pretty unimpressive.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun

I am very ♥♥♥♥ at this game though. I should try to get better at it.

If you refuse to get a chest or a rad container, in the next level the reward will be higher.
Risk vs reward or delayed gratification vs immediate benefit. Fun.
