Very interesting story and take on the LotR world.

Game felt short, but then I put in 33 hours so take that however you will.

Only wish there was more command of the orc army that you control.

Not sure I understand why it is still marked as full price but I got this for under $10 and totally worth it at that price. I don't know if I would have been happy with it at full price.

This game is really cool at first but after a couple of hours it turns into Repeteville. I got this game for about $12 but I really regret spending my money now. Too bad I've spent more than two hours or I'd refund the hell out of this game. It uses mechanics from different games and feels the same for every enemy that I kill. DO NOT BUY IT.

+Nemesis system
+Nice textures on the orcs
+Awesome voice acting from the Orcs
+Fun bits here and there when you slice up Orks with finisher moves. Ex.: Going up behind an orc and stabbing it on the side of the head.
+The ranger spirit (forgot the name) is awesome and well voice-acted

-Repetitive as hell after a couple of hours
-Combat feels tedious and completely becomes a chore after a few hours of killing captains
-Running all over the map is boring as hell
-(Semi-Spoiler)------> The second map area in the game is boring and is more of the same repetitiveness that the first one was.
-Weak-♥♥♥ story with characters that I wouldn't give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about.
-Orcs are either idiotic, brain-dead ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or hypersensitive sentry guns like the ones from Aliens - mostly the first.
-Main character is boring and I never really cared about his family sop-story.
-Environments are too similar and look boring as hell after looking at the same dirty beige mixed with green for hours.
-The skills you can put on your weapons are useless except for a few okay ones.

TL;DR I have mixed feelings about its usage of the Middle Earth license, especially with it being rather light on lore or world development, and having an overall poor attempt at an interesting story or cast. I still somewhat strongly recommend it, it's otherwise worth your time for the fun factor and relative uniqueness alone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even under the Middle Earth license, the most you'll likely get out of this is core gameplay, which is comprised of what's more or less colloquially become the generic Arkham beat-em-up system, with the added twist of other features and some of the perks and upgrades you can unlock. The stealth would be very familiar to any Assassin's Creed players, and in some ways borrows a good bit, though a little smoother for my tastes and enough to stay enjoyable. Beyond all that, the game did have some good creative endeavors including the rather impressively dynamic Uruk Army, with plenty of player interaction to experiment with. Truth be told, I had the most fun after the initial 26 hours of beating the game for the first time, largely because in my second playthrough I actually limited my upgrades and perks and effectively figured out how to immerse myself in these systems. After a while, not taking as many of the numerous all-powerful perks is the only way to really make the game more challenging, aside from turning off combat prompts for counters. This is especially true for me, being so familiar with the Arkham series which the combat system is borrowed from

Here are my only major complaints, however:
-For a game with the above-mentioned license to Middle Earth, that side of it is uninteresting. The setting is uninteresting. The characters and their motivations, especially our antihero Talion, are uninteresting. The story and its progression are uninteresting. The least of a ♥♥♥♥ they could give to really develop the world is in the various arbitrary collectibles in the game's open world.
-In attempting to deviate from the pretty constant flow of gameplay, many of the supposed turning points in the story are pretty anticlimactic. The first few major fights were alright, maybe kind of challenging and fun. From there, it goes straight downhill with the boss battles. Spoiler alert, the Sauron fight involves sitting back and watching your minions and his minions cockfight, then climbing a tower and engaging in a brief monologue and quicktime event, followed by a sequel hook. For what optimism in the game's story I had left at the end of it, I was disappointed even further.

This is like a Batman Arkham game, stripped of the gadgets and with less content, stuffed with LotR lore. Everything in the game is great, but it's not much content. For €10,- and especially €12,50 with all DLC I do highly remommend it to everyone.

The game is beautiful and the story seems compelling enough. Get this game but be forewarned. Read bellow for the warning....

I'm sure this game plays great with mouse and keys but it sucks ♥♥♥♥ with a controller. I'm physically challenged and need the controller to play. Anyway, the controller layout is buggy as ♥♥♥♥ with an Xbox controller. The attack button(X button) doesn't attack and the right trigger pulls up the game menu. I played this game just using the Y button(this does perry and counter actions) but I can't get any further as I really need to attack enemies and I can't. That, and it bugs the ♥♥♥♥ out into wraith mode every two seconds and I can't change the controller sensitivities to fix this. If I could use my key mapping software with my controller I would be set. But as it is I can't and thus can't keep playing this game. Steam or software devs really need an option to override controller detection so people can play using a different layout. Very disapointing.... =/

Took me a while to start getting into the game, about 10 hrs or so but when i finally got to the part where i could start branding orcs and using them to create my own little orc pack the game became really good. Outside of the nemesis system the game runs very smooth and the combat is very good (most like the arkham series but many games copy that combat nowadays cause its just that good). Really a great fun little game, story is not the best as its very predictable but its not the worst story ive seen this year and who needs the greatest story anyways when your a badass half wraith assassin ranger mind controller

also executions never get old for me, especially when its a revenge execution

Receita para Shadow of Mordor:

Pegue qualquer Assassin´s Creed e:
-Retire um pouco da complexidade da história;
-Ambiente-a (a história) no mundo de Tolkien;
-Adicione sangue;
-Retire 97,32% dos bugs;
-Mais sangue;
-Faça um combate mais fluido e violento (desmembramentos, decaptações...etc)
-Deixe apenas uma quantidade humanamente possível de artefatos e outros colecionáveis;
-Substitua todas as missões secundárias que no fundo são todas iguais por algumas missões secundárias todas iguais (libertar escravos);
-Decaptação;
-Insira combos e golpes especiais maneiros;
-Retire todas as missões insuportáveis onde vc tem que seguir alguém de perto sem ser visto;
-Coloque mais um pouco de sangue;
-Deixe o sistema de Stealth opicional na grande maioria dos casos;
-Mantenha a dublagem em português bem feita.
-Já mencionei sangue?

Pronto.

Nota 10/10

Recomendo!

Probably one of the best games based on a Tolkien license to date!

Before this game got released, I had high doubts about their promised Nemesis system. No way this would work as described. But it totally does! This creates highly individual stories of revenge and vendetta for everyone.

What else can you expect? One of the finest re-creations of the Arkham battle system, a lot of stealth, things to find, beasts to ride and orcs to kill. And don't let the first hours fool you. There's an entire second map to explore later on.

Pretty great open world game!

Already finished the main campaign. Thankfully, there's 3 more campaigns that come with the DLC.

The gameplay has ups and downs. Combat is incredibly satisfying and really makes you feel like a badass. The wall climbing gets really annoying. You'll find yourself constantly climbing on crap you never meant to or jumping off walls and alerting a whole camp of Uruk. At first I was upset with the map size, then I learned there's 2 maps, both of which are very well made.

Don't let the beginning grind turn you off, this is necessary to learn the game since things can get pretty complicated, especially when you start messing with the politics of Sauron's army. So satisfying.

The main story started out really amazing and emotional, but the ending is totally rushed. The final battle is against 2 of the most powerful forces in Mordor and they're fricken QTE events. It's anti-climatic and very dissapointing.

Still, the game is so much fun and I can't wait to weild the One Ring and fight Sauron in the DLC.

Game's a lot of fun, if a little repetitive (in the same way that most open world games can get after you've been playing them for fifteen hours or more). Extremely polished combat system that is just ripped right off from the Batman Arkham games, but then slightly improved for maximum smoothness and fluidity. It's entirely possible to fight a group as big as the game can handle rendering, and if you're on the ball it'll look easy. Really enjoyable gameplay elements, not too obnoxious on the collectables, and some RPG elements as many games of this sort now have to give you a sense of reward for time spent and a sense of progression.

Definitely recommend it on a sale, might even be worth full price if it were still the month it came out :)

Great game. Takes my favorite aspects from Assassin's Creed, adds a great combat system and perks/abilities that make killing orcs so much fun. Very immersive story and bosses. Great voice acting, and a nice soundtrack. If you pay attention to the lore as well, it can immerse you. If you just wander around it can be boring at times otherwise it's great. ☆☆☆☆☆ 5/5

Don't play for the story. Play for the enjoyment of slaying hordes of orcs and looking stylish while doing it.
Seriously though, something about the way you fight is very satisfying and if running around Mordor and Nurnen gracefully slashing at every orc and beast you see sounds like fun, then don't hesitate on buying this game. If you are looking for a more in-depth LOTR game to live out your adventure fantasies of exploring Middle Earth and completing a diverse array of activities and battles, I would wait for a sale and still probably pass on this one.

In the 24 hours that I played this game, I beat the campaign and completed a substantial amount of side content. I don't believe I touched any of the DLC content. I played it exclusively with a gamepad.

Shadow Of Mordor is a game that starts very strong and slowly wanes in quality. On PC it's a technical accomplishment, the game looks gorgeous and runs like a dream on my high end PC, thanks to a broad selection of graphical settings.

Have you played an Arkham game? Then you've played Shadow Of Mordor. The gameplay is a mixture of open combat and stealth takedowns, both of which are almost entirely cloned from the Rocksteady Batman games. The only differences are minor improvements: SoM allows you to run while crouched, to perform brutalisation attacks which terrify nearby enemies, and to drain health and energy from vulnerable enemies. It also lets you to include archery in your combos without losing your hit streak, which makes for a much more lenient hitstreak system than Arkham Knight.

Early on, Shadow Of Mordor is a lot of fun. You're free to roam around the flat, desolate plains of the black lands and hunt enemy captains, who can be spotted from a long distance using this game's version of Detective Mode. The combat mostly consists of mashing X towards your chosen target, and then pressing A to hop over them when they try to guard or attack, but this becomes difficult over time. Each hit landed on you drains your energy, and if you don't manage to kill your target you're left to either flee (which often means catching a crossbow bolt in the spine) or to die in the attempt, which means your target gets a promotion and will be harder to kill next time.

As intended, the Nemesis system encourages you to develop a personal rivalry with these randomly generated Uruks. Some of these fights were surprisingly challenging and required me to think strategically before I attacked, often interrogating orcs for information on my target and then baiting them to places where I could exploit their weaknesses. That aspect of the game is what people in other reviews have praised, and it deserves applause. It's a good first implementation of a very promising idea.

Sadly it all becomes rather pointless once you start gaining XP and unlocking abilities. The Shadow of Mordor skill tree has the opposite problem of the Arkham Knight skill tree: instead of having 100 useless upgrades, it has roughly 20 game-breakingly useful ones. I think I can narrow down the problem to three really bad options: the ability to take a hit without losing your hit streak, the ability to stun enemies by jumping over them, and the ability to spend your hitstreak multiple times.

With these I could jump into a group of powerful Uruks, leap over one, quickly kill him and then spend that killstreak to effortlessly kill two more. After you unlock these abilities, there's no more tension, no more strategy, no more use for intelligence and planning, no more investment in your nemesis. Everyone and everything becomes laughably pathetic compared to your skillset. It's disgustingly easy and, after the initial fun of being overpowered wears off, dreadfully boring.

You'd hope the game would ramp up the difficulty to keep up with your new skills, but it never does. You remain overpowered for the rest of the campaign. The introduction of "Branding" as a late game ability only exacerbates the problem. What was once a fun adventure, suddenly becomes a repetitive slog through dirt brown levels. The game has 4 boss fights, and each of them showcase the limitations of Arkham-style combat as you repeat your most effective combo against endless goons and wait for the QTE button prompt that hurts the boss. It's horribly disappointing.

The story has received a fair bit of praise, and I'm not sure why. In spite of paying attention to the dialogue and doing a lot of side missions, I honestly have no idea what happened in the end. My characters motivation was never clear: as a "gravewalker" he talks a lot about ending his curse and being "at rest" with his murdered family, but his existence doesn't seem particularly torturous, and he enjoys using his new undead abilities to pursue bloody revenge. Ostensibly the villain of the story is The Black Hand, but what exactly that is never gets clarified. In the last act of the story this problem reaches a fever pitch, where I found myself doing things without any context as to why they were being done and exactly what they symbolised. It's a frantic, hurried mess.

This game has no difficulty settings, nor any potential for modding that might make it more difficult. Some people might recommend that you play with self-imposed restrictions, and I imagine that it might be fun to play the entire game without spending upgrade points, but I don't feel tempted to replay Shadow Of Mordor just to find out, nor I do want to play any of the DLC I got as part of the GOTY package. The lack of challenge is a huge problem, and no amount of graphical fidelity can make up for it.

I bought this game for £10 during a sale, and it's currently available for £30. I'm going to recommend it based on the fun I had in the first 12 hours, but I'd discourage people from purchasing it at full price unless they absolutely love the Arkham games and don't have a problem with games that fail to challenge them. I think this game is sadly over-rated, I bought it based on the hype and while I agree that the Nemesis system is a great idea it only remains compelling for as long as the game is difficult, which isn't long at all.

Best RPG I have played in a long time. Decided to buy it since I cannot afford Dark Souls III right now and it definitely fills the RPG need in me.

Yet we roam freely and assassinate targets in that place
10/10 would do it again
