"CastleStorm draws from a seemingly unmanageable array of inspirations including real-time strategy, tower defense, and Angry Birds, and does so with remarkable virtuosity and humor." 8/10

"CastleStorm doesn't try to hide its inspirations, and it doesn't need to. There are enough of them to morph this action strategy into something fresh and exciting. It's warm, frequently funny, and stylish It's just hard enough to keep you biting. And most of all, it's just bloody great." 9/10

“In what is easily one of the greatest moments of my gaming career, I once used my ballista to shoot a dragon out of the sky. The massive lizard corpse fell to the ground, killing three of my opponent’s soldiers. Thank you for making that moment possible, Zen Studios." 83/100

About the Game

Welcome to the world of CastleStorm, a super genre mashup of 2D physics destruction mashed with tower defense brawler! CastleStorm was born out of the fond childhood memory of building and destroying LEGO castles.

The clouds bring rumors of war…It’s Knights vs. Vikings in CastleStorm, where medieval warfare meets 2D physics-based destruction! Controlling the battle in real time, players will harness the power of medieval artillery, manage a fearsome ground attack, and cast powerful spells! CastleStorm features a story-driven solo campaign, a custom castle editor, online multiplayer, co-op modes, and more. Building castles and knocking them down has never been so much fun!

CastleStorm is a physics based tower destruction game, combining elements of real time strategy, resource management, and a beautiful blend of challenging gameplay scenarios.

Multiplayer battles and Co-Op. CastleStorm features multiple modes of multiplayer action for both local and online play:

• 1 vs. 1 split-screen mode, simply try and beat your opponent
• Survival Co-op: Two players team up to fight off waves of enemies together! One player will control the ballista, the other controls ground forces
• Last Stand Co-op: Both players control a hero and fight off endless waves of enemies together!

Build your own castle! CastleStorm features a tower construction editor allowing players to construct their own custom castles that will be used in battle. Castles must be constructed wisely, as choices determine which types of troops and resources will be available during battle!

Twelve incredibly beautiful environments and a comical story. Sir Gareth leads his troops into battle against the raging Vikings to recover the stolen gem and bring peace to the realm!

Multiple paths to victory. You can choose how to defeat your enemy. Capture the flag, destroy their castle, or complete another predetermined level objective in order to claim victory. Each level features multiple objectives, each with their own rewards!

An arsenal that would make any medieval warrior proud! Harness the power of medieval ballista weaponry, and launch an assortment of explosive weapons including Morningstars, Apple Grenades, Homing Eagles, and even flying sheep to defeat an onslaught of enemies trying to capture your flag and destroy your castle. Deploy a fearsome ground attack of swordsmen, knights, and donkey riders in order to protect your castle gates, and if all else fails, call upon powerful spells to help keep the enemy at bay.

You’ve won the battle, now power up so you can win the war! As you power up in CastleStorm, new weapons and troop classes become available for use in battle.

Started to play this game and thought "Ok its alright but not that good",played it some more and "THEN" i changed my mind.
This game is deceptively easy when you start and then just gets harder,if you dont upgrade your units and your castle then facing off against some of the later enemies and challenges is futile you will lose and lose again until you upgrade the units and also the castle you have chosen.
The graphics are really nice and suit this game to the ground (some of the cutscenes are like watching a cartoon),the sound and music is also really good and suits this style of game. The balance of gameplay is really thought out and like i have said you either upgrade the units and other things you have (like i have said) or you will be stuck on the level you are for some time. You do have to grind a bit at times to beat some levels and challenges (DAMN TROLL) but when you do you feel like you have acomplished something and then the next challenge awaits you.
When i finished the main game i was like "AW IS THAT IT I WANT MORE" so i went straight and bought the DLCs and again wasent dissapointed, its more of the same which in this case is certainly a good thing.
Lets hope that they make a sequel soon and that it is as good as this game if not better.

Fun very much like an old table top castle smash game. Wish the character actually talked outside of thought bubbles though.

A fun little game, full of destruction, vikings, guys to fight for or against you. Protect your castle, bolster the moral of your troops, oh and would someone please make sure there are enough privies. ;)

All in all it is an entertaining game, one that you can pick up quickly. It does take some practice to get the best score, or fulfill the bonus achievements, but it's worth it. The game has an online high score table so that you can go head to head against your friends and see who gets the highest score.

Back I go to try my hand at the next challenge, as long as my swordsmen stop jumping in front of my arrows at least. :)

Kind of a cross between castle crashers and horde mode
Design your own castle, level up your projectiles, troops and spells. Destroy the enemy castle with the catapult or your troops.
Multiple story lines, online leaderboards and bonus challenges. Really good for a short and sharp gaming session or a longer one if you like

It's hard for me to place this game into a genre. Parts tower defense, strategy, RPG and action. This game strives to achieve a hefty goal. I can say it achieve that goal on many levels. Despite the story and what some may consider short campaign mode, this game offers plenty. There are many modes to it, the art style is very eye catching and the humor kept me in. I loved that you could upgrade magic, projectiles, soldier types and the castle itself (It isn't "CastleStorm" for nothing). The balancing one has to do to achieve their own gameplay style is unique with the castle building. I won't go into detail, but it is a nice and fresh take on it.
*If I could make any improvements, longer campaign, more variety in soldiers or at least a 3rd faction.
All in all, I found this game a wonderful time had. Glad I purchased it. I needed a fix like this that I didn't know I wanted.

** They may have added some in the DLC for the game, which is very cheap and probably worth it, but I had not purchased it as of this review, I wanted to review what I had played.
