I'm a musician who's been doing his own mixing and recording on a home studio for about 5 years now. I've gone through several DAW's and I've found that my favourites are Logic and Pro Tools. I had used SONAR about 10 years ago and found it interesting and pretty innovative then, but I had access to Logic since 2007, so I've been using that. However, I have found that working with this iteration of SONAR to be incredibly easy and very quick to transition from Logic.
It works seamlessly with my current hardware and software, it has excellent built-in tools and the inclusion of Melodyne in the Studio level has made for some excellent alternatives to redoing a take that may have great emotion but might have been recorded a tiny bit flat and losing that emotion. I've finally found an affordable alternative to Pro-Tools on my PC that allows me to mix, master and record pro-level recordings with the same ease I've found in using my other preferred DAW's.
There was a minor hiccup when I first purhased this software, as I did not get my Melodyne key, however the crew quickly fixed my problem and also sealed my love for this new product. If you're looking for a mid-range powerhouse DAW, hop on the studio version, it'll allow you to churn out some pro-level recordings (provided you have the skill-set to produce such an end-product) while staying in an incredibly affordable budget. The included plugins will certainly do you justice, but it integrates well with Guitar Rig and Toontrack EZ Mix 2 (which both provide some excellent preset mixing options).
