Springfield Line: Springfield – New Haven Out Now

The Virtual New Haven Railroad Springfield Line brings to life the 1950s glory days of the famed New Haven (NYNH&H) Railroad – and glorious it is!

Extending from Springfield, Massachusetts to New Haven, Connecticut, this highly authentic Train Simulator route represents 62 miles of multiple-track, densely-packed mainline railroading bustling with a mix of New Haven passenger, through freight, local freight, and switching activity. In the 1950s, the NYNH&H’s Springfield-Hartford-New Haven corridor was a busy center of New England manufacturing, and the line offers countless opportunities for serving those industries with local and switching operations. Plus, the route’s many beautiful lineside stations (including large stations at Springfield, Hartford, and New Haven) provide for classic-era passenger railroading at its best.

In addition to re-creating New Haven’s Springfield main line, the route includes a variety of adjoining branch lines and spurs, such as New Haven’s branch to Suffield and Windsor Locks, its Bloomfield/Griffin branch, the quarry line at Meriden, extensive industrial trackage around Hartford, and New Haven’s Mill River branch. Major freight yard and terminal facilities exist at Springfield, Hartford, and New Haven, keynoted by New Haven’s famously massive, 880-acre Cedar Hill Yard, which was the largest terminal complex in New England.

The Virtual New Haven Railroad Springfield Line features a trio of locomotives from America’s three dominant diesel builders – the versatile GP9 from Electro-Motive; Alco’s 1,000-horsepower S-2 switcher; and General Electric’s diminutive 44-tonner. Together, the locomotives are perfectly suited for a variety of duties and are provided in a total of seven livery variations.

The route includes an extraordinary selection of 1950s freight and passenger rolling stock including more than a dozen freight car types (many in multiple liveries and with various loads) ranging from boxcars to gondolas to tank cars to TOFC flats. New Haven’s distinctive NE-5 class caboose is included in three liveries, and three passenger car types (heavyweight baggage and coach and distinctive Osgood-Bradley lightweight coaches, all in multiple liveries) are included with the route.

The Virtual New Haven Railroad’s Springfield Line route captures all the appeal that made the New York, New Haven & Hartford an iconic favorite of railroad enthusiasts and, in taking you back to the 1950s, will provide countless captivating and challenging railroading experiences!

About This Game

Enjoy three fantastic real-world routes including Sherman Hill (USA), Riviera Line: Exeter to Kingswear (UK) and West Rhine: Cologne to Koblenz (Germany). Train Simulator 2016 is the biggest package of exclusive content we have ever delivered in a Train Simulator!

EXCLUSIVE Steam Edition includes the additional route, Norfolk Southern Coal District route.

Feel the pressure of steam as you travel back to the time of Green and Gold, from the powerful Kings to the romantic Castles, the heavy working Halls, the goods-carrying Granges and the famous Pannier Tanks across the Riviera Line set in the nostalgic 1950s. Relive the time when steam reigned on all services from local freight to coastline express, whether you perform perfectly alone or need some assistance to get to your destination. The 40 Mile Riviera Line in the 1950s comes with GWR Pannier Tank, Castle, Hall, King and Grange Class all with Driver Assist incorporated, Mk1, Collett and Centenary coaches and freight wagons. Keep an eye on those signals, they can be easy to lose in the cold western fog.

Experience the power of the fuel-hungry Big Blows across the challenging Sherman Hill as you haul hundreds upon hundreds of tons, putting that 8500 horsepower turbine through its paces, or opt for some conventional traction in the form of ES44ACs, drive in more comfortable conditions in the wide cab of the SD70M, or maybe in the classic SD40-2s. The 60 Mile Sherman Hill route comes with UP Gas Turbine, ES44AC, SD70, SD40 and SW10 locomotives and freight wagons. Watch out though, winter can be brutal even for the most powerful of locos.

Control the Genesis of modern Electro-motive traction as you haul heavy freight across the stunning West Rhine Railway in the DB BR 155 ‘Electric Container’, take passengers on their scenic commute with the DB BR 146 or shunt together a train to be taken far away with the DB BR 294. The 60 Mile West Rhine Railway from Cologne to Koblenz comes with DB BR 155, 146.0, 146.2, 101 and 294, with regional and InterCity coaches and a variety of freight wagons. Be mindful of the weather, heavy rain can take even the best drivers by surprise.

Struggle through the beautifully scenic Mon Line as you haul mile long coal trains through the winding curves and streets of Pennsylvania. Collect coal as you drive your ES44AC slowly under the loading facilities and prepare for the run to the other end of the line. While being relatively level, the sharp river-side turns and the slow speeds as you cut right through a town will not be mastered easily. The 50 Mile Norfolk Southern Coal District route comes with Norfolk Southern ES44AC and Dash 9 (AI Only) locomotives with NS coal hoppers. (Only available with Steam Edition)

Capture the perfect scenes in the all new Railfan mode
Enjoy the power and finesse of the railway away from the drivers cab with railfan mode, watch from the platform, track side or stand on a bridge and take in the excitement without worrying about the journey, just make sure you’re ready to take some shots, you never know what you might see out on the tracks!

Learn to drive different trains at the TS Academy and qualify as a train driver
New to driving trains? Not to worry! With the newly updated TS Academy you can learn all that you need to beat the extreme, from basic passenger operations to freight terminals that require pin-point accuracy or nailing those complex and unique signalling systems. TS academy is the best way to learn or remember how to control every type of train

Have you mastered driving diesel and electric locos, but struggled to control steam? Found it too complicated to drive or understand? Now you can master these delicate engines with our all new driving assist! Driver assist will provide you with real time information based on the locomotives performance and handling, it will guide you through driving a steam loco by highlighting the controls in cab and telling you how to move them to get the best out of the engine. Driver Assist is featured on all the steam locomotives included with the Riviera Line in the Fifties route and can be turned on and off at will.

Hi. Dovetail games here. If you'd like to do anything in this game you must first gives us mountains of cash. And then some more cash. Did we mention the cash? Yes, that's what you must give us lots of. Also the game is only barely adequate. But the cash. Yes, give us that.

I was hoping this would be a better game. Tutorials ran smooth so I decided to jump into the meat of the game and play a scenario or 2. Game crashed once. Tried another scenario and the reverser did not function manually or in the HUD. Closed out and tried the same scenario again with the same results. Also simple words in the pop-up dialog boxes are not spelled correctly which says to me it's not put together very well. I miss Microsoft Train Simulator. I am requesting a refund and definitely do not recommend.

Throttle simulator 2016. Controls designed for US keyboard layout. Crashed on first alt-tab. Long loading times. Poorly designed view controls. Poor graphics detail, flickering. Most exciting aspect of the game was to leave the controls and take a bathroom break without breaking the speed limit.

It is a good simulation with excellent graphics.
Your loco OBB 4023 A and C do not start, engine, wipers and lights do not work even though buttons show to be active.hence one cannot run the selected route. Please, review software and correct as necessary.

While as simulator it's okay(ish), I'd not recommend to buy it because of the DLC and downward compatibility (or lack of it). In the past I've bought a couple of DLC packs, which over the year have become obsolete with new changes, but the developer does not take the effort to update those DLC packs. With that, the obsolete DLC packs ARE NOT downloaded to the current version of the game, so you CAN NOT make them compatible yourself (I can make a couple of disc DLCs I have compatible with the current version of the game). Also, I've noticed that a couple of old and obsolete DLCs have been readded as new DLC to the store without replacing the old obsolete DLC for the players who have bought it.

I do not normally write reviews but i feel that i should in the case of this game.
there are problems, the main problems being that there are bugs everywhere and the programmer has failed to adress them.
ontop of this ..... the frame rate on a top end machine is pathetic. i am runniun gtx 980 titan graphics cards along with solid state memory and top end everything else. The games skips frams like there is no tomorrow and suffers from slowdown. and does not run smoothly.

you dont get a great deal with the basic game. Most of the content you have to pay for in DLC. which normally end up being buggy and in same cases completely unuseable.

The game has huge potencial and its a good idea but the way it is and has been for that matter makes it in my opinion not worth buying.

I know theres people geniuinely interested in trains and I know theres people that buy this just for thousands of dollars DLC meme.
I- got this because it sounds fun to me, was I disappointed? Not a whole lot.
Is it a good simulation/game? I wouldnt say so, no.
I mean sure, the physics are whats most important in simulations, but aside from that, to me this is lacking alot until it could achieve and rise to what would be the best product in this niche market of simulators.
First of all they should overhaul the sounds of the trains. Now Im not dedicated to listening to the sound of those gigantic diesel engines or the rather silent but soothing electric motors modern passenger trains often use, but I feel like the sounds are off, very off. Second would be improving the graphics as well as the performance, and I know these teams run on a rather slim budget most of the time so testing their game on a variety of hardware configurations might be difficult, then again, how do you explain dovetail buying out the license to FSX? Anyways.
I wouldnt know how to properly judge this title really. It does have its right to existence and frankly I did enjoy the time I got to spend with it and being slightly overwhelmed by the powerful map editor. To me this is just missing one thing that would make the experience so much more worth it: Atmosphere, or immersion even... The sounds are weird and it doesnt present itself well, heck the passengers still consist out of like 32 polygons with a face slapped onto their flesh colored cubic head. If they manage to, at some point get this right and make it actually look good and make the whole world look more alive, I would absolutely recommend this to anyone, really this could be the ETS2 of trainsims. But for now, I sadly can't... unless you are very passionate about this.

Wouldn't recommend it to anyone, even the die-hard simulation fans.
Comes with about 2 trains and 2 journeys and the rest costs half the price of the game.
Don't buy.

The fundamental problems that this game/sim has had for years still haven't been solved. Performance is absolutely terrible even on absolutely high end systems, while the game doesn't look that great. (The screenshots are not representative! Looks a lot worse in practice.)

It used to be fun, but now it crashes constantly and the dlc is overpriced. 2/10 won't recommend.
